I was fortunate enough to see Randy on the Diary of a Madman tour in Lansing, Michigan, in February of 1982. Randy died six weeks later. He was so incredible. I remember just staring at his fingers on the fretboard and being blown away. Such a tremendous loss.

Man, this is some amazing footage! Thank you so much for posting it. There just wasn't enough of Randy playing live which has always bummed me out. This video is a great example of how Randy felt that the solo was an integral melodic part of the song and he wrote them to be a part of each piece of music, not as a place to diddle around and improv. He was really thoughtful about what was put down on the record in terms of his playing and I think that's part of why it holds up to this day. Again, thank you so much for this.
I've listened to so many of the live Randy-Ozzy bootlegs, and the Milwaukee 1982 show was on another level. Randy was playing so aggressively and Ozzy was just out of his mind. There was a definitely a fire in them that night. It must have been magic to be there.

After seeing him live Twice 10 foot from him till this day you will never see a master of guitar like Randy in our lifetime. A 100# perfectionist . He lived for his guitar. I cried like a baby when I heard about his passing.. He changed the world in 3 years.. no one including EVH could hold a candle against him. RIP
All the footage ive seen you could always tell ozzy was just super pumped to be there in person to hear randy shred.. sad man, awesome and sad. RIP randy
He was absolutely, absolutely, and I say it again, absolutely to good for this world. People just remember, he was just a kid. I get sick to the stomach thinking what he would be like today in 2022. OMG!!
Now that i listened closley to Randys solos he was not at the peak of his craft before he died, and this shows how great of a guitarist he could have been. He died way before his time and this is the saddest thing.
I was only 5 when Randy died but man what I wouldnt do to have heard him live. No other guitarist till this day gives me chills likes RR. What a freaking beast on guitar and from everything that has ever been said about him from the people that knew him is that he was such a simple guy.
Thank you for the rare footage. IMHO, Revelation Mother Earth was his finest solo. That being said, his only slide solo in No Bone Movies was really good and a different twist.
Excellent content. Thank you! True story: back in the 80’s my best friend Toney & I went to almost every hard rock concert that came to our midsize hometown but we usually bought our tickets the day of the show. Once we heard the DOM tour was coming to our hometown, Ozzy first time, we bought our tickets 3 months in advance. We never did this. However 6 weeks before the show tragedy struck and took one of the best guitarist ever to play rock n roll. So sad 😢
I was about 13 when randy passed, all I could think was.. I hope it was Rudy or tommy, I know that’s mean, but for gods sakes , randy meant that much to me, and I was on my way to guitar class when I heard of his death. Such a small man with Hugh sound. Love u randy
Randy Rhoads was a true blessing he was more than just a great guitarist randy came along and showed us all that there were other chords and scales on the guitar that a lot of us had no idea how to apply these to our music Eddie Van Halen a great guitarist of our time did not use these beautiful dark melodic melodies like randy rhoads did effortlessly those were mostly mistakes when we would hit those notes we were just getting a taste of what the young genius was capable of and than sadly he went away what a really nice humble soft spoken young man he was listening to him play on the two albums cranked up even over 40 years later makes me smile and although I’m in my 60s I still say to my wife or friends did you hear that or listen yep I kinda liked that guy
Randy was the best! He was my biggest influence when I started playing guitar. He was far ahead of his time. People forget, Randy was playing like this in the mid 70’s. He was a composer and created masterpiece songs and solos.
Hands down, the GOAT of the genre. Not just the technical prowess, the composition, use of space, legato runs at alien speed, one guitar but still a wall of sound and the tone (incendiary).
The solos on Tonight are absolutely magical. All RR’s stuff is amazing to me but Tonight really just hangs with you. Hard to explain. Sounds like his guitar has emotion on that song.
I have been learning the Guitar for a few years now, but i was told if i want to improve hold the Guitar like Randy Rhodes so i did and i have improved a-lot.
I was at the Albuquerque show , Tingley Coliseum if I remember right , I was 14 years old an uncle of mine took me , sad thing was I was just discovering this music , it wasn’t until a year later I picked up a guitar and found out what a genius Randy was . I still have that ticket stub somewhere $12 to see Ozzy with Randy .
What a HUGE F’ing LOSS to all who would’ve been blessed enough to hear this young man’s gift and to all he would’ve taught. So sad still RIP Randy Rhoads!
The best guitarist of his time & One of biggest inspirations off all time. The reason I picked up a Guitar. I can't even imagine what he would have Became after dieing at 25 years old. Such a shame. They say only the good die young? So do the greats!
The exploding building at the end was tacky. I saw Ozzy with Randy in Sep. '81. Life changing show for this, at the time, 15 year old. Had tix for April '82. Well, Randy had died in that plane crashing into the garage of a Florida Masion. The April show was postponed until May. Brad Gillis was the guitar player for the rest of the tour. Randy is still an inspiration.
I just want to take a moment to thank Max Norman for doing such a great job saving Randy's guitar tone on Tribute. Can you imagine if they'd used that terrible delay or double tracking gizmo? Great video...always good to see Mr Rhoads. So little footage.
The biggest fucking shame for Metal and guitar. The loss of this great man. I am an EVH guy no doubt. But Randy is my guy also and the things that were coming were going to shock the world. Of that I am certain. Fucking loss...hard to bear even now. At 17 I was devastated..
In a recent interview with Zakk Wylde he was asked if audience members always having their phones during shows shooting video ever annoyed him. He said no, and felt everybody experiences live shows their own way. Then he pointed out how little footage exists of Randy Rhodes live, and said if today’s video tech existed when he was a teen he would’ve absolutely been shooting video of Rhodes playing.
That live Mr Crowley doesn’t seem to sound the same as the album versions ? After carefully analyzing it . I think Randy changed the solo on the live version
Tommy Aldridge said that he got his first glimpse of Randy's greatness when Randy and Ozzy showed up to one of Gary Moore's rehearsals. Randy and Gary supposedly jammed together for over an hour. Wish they had taped that! Tommy was Gary's drummer at the time.
I wish Randy didn't have to leave us so soon, especially at the beginning of the 80s. I would have loved to see what else he could have brought to the table.

Absolutely check out my comment above I agree.
But remember he still lives on because his tunes will never die they are true just absolute pieces of art on the guitar 🎸
In my honest opinion he is the best guitarist that has ever graced the planet
Dimebag Darrel
Randy Rhoads and Django Reinhardt...Randy was listening to Django's records at his home...
Would love to hear what or how his playing would have evolved! Huge talent
Absolute genius taking way before his time
I was only 5 when Randy died but man what I wouldnt do to have heard him live.
Good job with the video. Thanks for the effort to edit and upload.
My fave guitarist ever. God Bless Randy Rhoads!!
The perfect rock guitarist!...highly knowledgeable...luv Randy sooo much!
Ever wonder what Mozart or Beethoven would've sounded like plugged into a Marshall amp? Wonder no more...
This man did wonders with his guitars.
The solos on Tonight are absolutely magical. All RR’s stuff is amazing to me but Tonight really just hangs with you. Hard to explain. Sounds like his guitar has emotion on that song.
seen 2 of these top 5 jan 7,1982 albuquerque. have ticket buried somewhere.
Incredible. Thanks for your comment. It's amazing knowing there's people who witnessed this incredible talent.
Randy was a young man playing some very mature music. Everything he played made sense. I haven't heard anything like him since. He was amazing!
Randy and Cliff break my heart. I just try to imagine how music would be had we been able to see their progressions.
Randy Rhoads is the goat 🔥🔥🔥🔥🎸
I have been learning the Guitar for a few years now, but i was told if i want to improve hold the Guitar like Randy Rhodes so i did and i have improved a-lot.
I was at the Rochester NY 1981 show. Great concert but too short!
I was a teenager back then, thank you for the memories Randy, RIPower.
Randy was only in his 20’s and so very humble and talented! I remember when he died, and I think a little piece of us died with him.
The way he introduced classical scales into heavy metal is above and beyond anything anyone can create and it worked
His solos are musically pleasing to the ear
Lucky enough to see him twice.
His technique and talent were amazing. If you listen to the Tribute album, he sounded the same from night to night.
What a HUGE F’ing LOSS to all who would’ve been blessed enough to hear this young man’s gift and to all he would’ve taught. So sad still RIP Randy Rhoads!
Such a tragedy... at least there's any recordings at all, I suppose...
Randy is still an inspiration.
i guess they were implying the plane crash at the end. It was in very bad taste, I agree.
At 14 I thought he was the best then , at 56 I still do. All those shredder s sinse , still the meanest , cleanest , ever. totally amazing
The guy was phenomenal, sadly missed. You will never hear guitar playing like that again, a true maestro who's feel and sound were unparalleled.
100% agree bro, dude was a stud if I ever heard one.
August 3 1981 you rocked my socks off best birthday present ever ! Forever grateful 🙏
I just want to take a moment to thank Max Norman for doing such a great job saving Randy's guitar tone on Tribute. Can you imagine if they'd used that terrible delay or double tracking gizmo? Great video...always good to see Mr Rhoads. So little footage.
Randy until this day my favorite guitar player, thanks Randy for your legacy
Geniooooo total, lastima q t fuistes tan rapido y joven..
The biggest fucking shame for Metal and guitar. The loss of this great man. I am an EVH guy no doubt. But Randy is my guy also and the things that were coming were going to shock the world. Of that I am certain.
Fucking loss...hard to bear even now. At 17 I was devastated..
Theres lots of footage from both tours on youtube and some footage of him when he was in quiet riot.
Simply the best
And why isn't there concert footage?
All the concerts, festivals, and nothing?!?!
Someone is keeping the footage stashed away for some reason...
Brilliant! Thank you
Miss him so hard ...
Everyone knows those Ozzy albums with Randy wipe the floor with those Halen tarts anyway.
#5 is the Diary tour , same show as over the mountain in new mexico.
Holy shit, whats the song at 2:15? Great video
Footage of everyone on the planet but the best guitar player ever non
I wish Randy didn't have to leave us so soon, especially at the beginning of the 80s. I would have loved to see what else he could have brought to the table.
He was “the guy” of my generation and his untimely death was shocking and still hurts today
5 was Albuquerque, 3 was rosemont horizon Chicago .
Such musical genius. ✌
I miss this dude soooo much😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Taken far too soon in his young life. He was a legend.
Wow that I Don't Know solo is going so much faster than the studio recording. And done flawlessly of course...
He was one of short-lived talent,...pioneered heavy metal guitar riffs that showed the new way of playing heavy metal.
G.O.A.T!!!!
He was a master !!
Awesome ❤
