Hey everyone thanks for watching! I edited out one line, I initially said Brad Gillis was fired but by like all accounts he left of his own volition to continue with Night Ranger and make the hit “Sister Christian” and thus he more likely FIRED OZZY from HIS LIFE. Chalk that one up to my brain damage, I did him dirty! Let it be known. Love ya
Edit to also say: I love the points people made about his monumental task of learning all the Randy in a flash for the Diary tour. While the torch ended up passed from Randy to Jake, it would be interesting to hear what an original Brad Gillis Ozzy riff would sound like.

Randy was the greatest rock guitarist of his time, period. I think he is the greatest metal /hard rock player of all time. Keep in mind, Randy was plying like this in the mid 70’s! The man was completely ahead of his time and influenced generations of guitarist.
Jake is so underrated. He is a master of the instrument and his song writing is top notch. Zakk, one of the best to ever do it. All three of these guys are in my top 5 favorite guitarist.

@@GerhardGeficky-jg4ok The problem may have been that Jake E Lee was more of a guitarist than musician? I think it was a common problem among 80s guitar gods who followed Rhoads and Van Halen. They worked on the techniques more than the music. I love Jake E Lee as a guitarist and I think he is a good musician in the context of another songwriters great song, but he was never able to be compelling enough to start his own thing. Even Satriani and Vai and Malmsteen are boring to me, because they are also guitarists but not musicians. Music is not about just doing just a bunch of magic tricks onstage; it is about using songs to say something (more important than "look how great i play") that resonates with an audience. Lots of musicians actually suck at guitar, or any instrument (including voice) but they create music that people can relate to, and it is not just because people that don't get the shred are idiots. Shred, esp. in the 80s, can seem quite assholishly macho. But when shred is put into the service of a message (and is not the message itself) than it can be effective. I have a good idea what Ozzy's message to the world is all the way back to Black Sabbath, but what is Jake E. Lee's message to the world? As "great "of a guitarist he is (at least by shred standards of greatness), He's never made a compelling musical statement of his message to us.

I think the only reason Ozzy became anything after Sabbath is because if Randy and Bob Daisley writing the kick ass tunes. The world was a lot different in 1980, i remember because I was ten years old that year and "crazy train" blew up on rock radio. There was no MTV yet, definitely no UA-cam lol, so radio was everything back then, every city had at least two big rock radio stations, usually three, so good songs were the only way anyone was going to get anywhere. That song writing magic from Randy and Bob's doesn't grow on trees.

AWESOME vid! Can't even put into words how much I miss Jake... What an absolute MASTER!!! CRIMINALLY underappreciated!
I'm no "expert" by any stretch of the imagination; but, Jake was the only real rival to Eddie that I could see at the time. They even kinda' looked alike...

@Star-qc4br That hopping up the steps backwards, his whole freakin vibe and everything. I Love Randy, but I am such a huge Jake fan. The Osbournes screw everyone over and screw everything up. That was my favorite Ozzy era. I know he hated it, but I love the wild outfits, the stage production , the hair Ozzy had then, All of that era.

    • @Star-qc4br
      @Star-qc4br 2 місяці тому +1

@@shaunclifton5281 I couldn't agree more! I think the thing that so many either forget or overlook about that era is that it was just plain FUN! Vince Neil said a while back that the drive about that whole scene was to forget about your everyday worries, go out to a show and have a blast! I LOVE THAT! Sadly, it's also sorely missed...
      As for Jake...
Jake isn't just a master musician, he's an amazing showman. The man has an air about him that no one, save for maybe Eddie, could match. Not to take anything away from other giants of the guitar, Jake is unique. He can play circles around most other guitarists, look incredible while doing it during a show and yet remain humble about himself and one of the nicest guys you'd probably ever meet. A LEGEND!

From Blizzard up until No More Tears are all pretty awesome. I wasn’t really into Ozzy when I was younger but Randy, Jake, and Zakk, but an honorable mention has to go to Brad Gillis, he filled in between Randy’s death until Jake joined and they recorded Speak of the Devil and if you’re into guitar it’s a must listen Brad Gillis stepped into an impossible job and he absolutely killed it. They played a bunch of Sabbath tunes on it too.
Gillis was always intended to be a temporary member of the band, he was helping them make the dates they were committed to, he wasn’t fired he was just filling in and always was going through with Night Ranger .

I don't believe it is accurate, that Brad Gillis was fired from Ozzy. I think he was offered the gig, but chose to go back to his original band Night Ranger, who had some hit songs like Don't Tell Me You Love Me and Sister Christian, out around that time. I saw Brad with Ozzy at Alpine Valley Wisc., and he did an incredible job of filling in for Randy Rhoads, on I believe only about 10-14 days notice!

Ozzy worked with some the best guitarists in the business.
    Iommi’s brooding, heavy, blues
    Rhoad’s sophisticated suave
    Lee’s insane shredding
    Wylde’s heavy fist’o’doom
    Gus G’s edge
They all helped move Ozzy’s career forward.
