    Want to use your 16 Personalities Results to improve your friendships and relationships? In this episode of Visual Personality we're breaking down a simple pattern you can use based on the 8 MBTI Cognitive Functions to improve your relationships and understanding of yourself - all explained for absolute MBTI Beginners. In future videos we'll dive into more specifics on each MBTI Cognitive Function, but in today's video I hope this introduction can show you how powerful and practical Myers Briggs can be!
    --
    In life, we gather and sort. We Perceive what's going on in the world and then we make Judgements about what we want to value and prioritize. It turns out different personality types actually have a preference of which side of that process they enjoy doing more.
    For some, the ExxP's and IxxJ's, they gather first and sort later. There's an eagerness to gather more that is very automatic and trusted.
    This is because the ExxP's and IxxJ's number one personality superpower, i.e. their dominant MBTI cognitive function is a perceiving style - it's either Extroverted Intuition (Ne), Introverted Intuition (Ni), Extroverted Sensing (Se), or Introverted Sensing (Si). Depending on what personality superpower you have as your favorite, what you love to absorb and take is is going to be very different, but regardless this pattern - preference for gathering things in has many real life implications!
    For others, the IxxP's and ExxJ's, they enjoy sorting first and gathering later. These personality types can qualify and filter information very quickly - eagerly looking for their take or the best decision/fit.
    This is because the IxxP's and ExxJ's number one personality superpower, i.e. their dominant MBTI cognitive function is a judging decision making style - it's either Extroverted Thinking (Te) , Introverted Thinking (Ti), Extroverted Feeling (Fe), or Introverted Feeling (Fi). Depending on what personality superpower you have as your favorite, what you love to sort and qualify is going to be very different, but regardless this pattern - eagerness to sort things quickly has many real life implications!
    The goal of this channel is to make Personality Analysis as fun, entertaining and easy to understand as possible. Uncovering your Personality Superpowers should be fun, not confusing! Let's dig in together!

    as a female INTJ, it is annoying to rush us into making decisions. I hate making a decision that is not well thought out or at least having an idea what will be the outcome of my decisions. I like to be precise and in control to avoid problems later on.
    Slowly but surely.

    As an INFJ I can say that I binge on data. Listening to copious amounts of podcasts or audiobooks while I go about my day. Then over time I come to a point where I stop taking in anything, and produce: writing, discussing, creating.

    As an INFJ with an INTP partner I can definitely see what you mean! He is often asking me about my opinion and pushing me towards saying my opinion when I am just sharing something I've learned without having "sorted" it. Very, very interesting to hear about it from your perspective.

And he thinks I'm being difficult on purpose! Except in certain areas when I know where I stand it is split second decision making

    Bless your soul for talking about the cognitive functions. I was worried that as an INFP, I was gonna get shoe-horned into being indecisive simply for being a P.... when in reality I am very decisive because I almost always instantly know exactly how I feel about something.

    My husband and I are perfect complements when it comes to choosing baby names. I love to spend ridiculous amounts of time looking up names, researching them, keeping a list, etc. But when it comes time to actually name our kids, he's always been great at filtering names out, and just keeping the ones that will work best for our family. If he likes 1 or 2 of the 20 names I've researched, I know I've done a good job. Classic Gatherer vs Sorter.

    This personality system makes so much sense to me. This one helped me think about a group I am collaborating with. I am an INFJ. What I suggested for our group was to write out the decision we need to make at a meeting, and then, once we've made it write down the decision. It took us nine months to write a questionnaire. I was going crazy. I really wish we'd all do Myers-Briggs so we'd have a common vocabulary to talk about these styles of making decisions. If you hit me with something and ask me what I think in the middle of a meeting (yep, a reasonable thing for you), I can only say "I don't know yet."

    I’m an INFP and my husband is an ISTJ. (I know odd pair 😅) but what he described is one of the most frustrating things about our relationship. I offer a lot of patience, but if I don’t remind him that we need to talk about an aspect of our relationship, such as shifting boundaries, then he will put it off forever because it’s not a priority to him/doesn’t have an answer. I’m learning patience and he’s learning to prioritize taking an active part in solving problems in our relationship. I’ve found it’s best to state my need and a deadline for when I’d like him to be ready to discuss it, usually three days tops. For some things he’s actually gotten better at coming to me about on his own. If given the time, he always brings things to the table I wouldn’t have expected, in a good way.
    At the beginning of our relationship I would try to talk through an emotional problem I had looking for sympathy and it would be like information overload for him because he’d try to focus on every part of what I was feeling and take it upon himself. Now he knows I just gotta let things out sometimes and not to take it on. Things are simpler now since we’ve learned that about each other.

    This is an amazing explanation and so beautifully presented! The animations help me understand what you’re saying even better :)
    I like to explore (ExxP) in order to be more prepared and make the right decision (IxxJ), so not just to keep things open-ended but in order to prepare better. I relate this to opening lots of tabs when deciding what to buy because I'm not that kind of person who would just know what to buy right now, I have to compare products. I thought I was an INTP for doing this! This is why I get confused with online MBTI tests "do you like to keep your options open or not" yes but not for forever, I have to keep them open until I'm ready to decide 😅 I take things too literally also.
    But I'm confused about something you said about IxxJs, I do ask a few trusted friends for advice when unsure about what to choose when buying something, or what text sounds better when texting someone, they are a lot more "opinionated" than me so I like to know what they think, maybe they will tell me something I didn’t think of or didn’t know of, that kinda thing. Do I still belong to the IxxJ category when doing this?

    • @ThinkMoreDeeply
      @ThinkMoreDeeply  11 місяців тому +1

      I'd need more context and examples to say for sure. Remember that these categories are broad patterns in comparison to others. Every personality needs to explore, gather and make decisions sometimes. It's more, if it's comfortable or energizing for us to lean and over-rely in a certain direction because of our functions. The more you learn about different types and their preferences the more things should become clearer with the differences?

I always immediately have an opinion on something "does this fit with my values or not, is this suited for ME", but when it comes to actually planning I really need my ENFJ mom to guide and push me a bit into taking action. If I'm online shopping for a specific item, I'll usually open a bunch of options in different tabs, sometimes sort by price (depending on the number of tabs), and read the reviews for anything specific I may be looking for. When I finally narrow down one option (this depends on how much I think I want or actually need the product), I'll save it in my cart. Usually, it's so I can sleep on it and see if I still want it the next day, but sometimes I'll leave it there for a couple days.
    Recently, I've started using a "choose a random item from the list" site on my phone if I get indecisive about innate items like what flavor Kombucha to drink (I may use an app if they have it). That doesn't mean I don't make impulsive decisions at times, but I think when options are involved I have to slow down. For example, I could have the impulse to order Door Dash, but it takes me 30 minutes to order something. Sometimes during those 30 minutes, I realize I didn't actually want anything or nothing looks appetizing.

      OMG nothing could fit me more into words than this comment. Ever since I was a child, in exactly the steps you mentioned, the stuff you're explaining in brackets too, is exactly how I think. All the way to the last word I've never had a comment that so perfectly looks like a page taken out of my mind and thought process.
      I remember when I was in grade 1-4 (unsure exactly but relevant to all 4 years) there was this doll I wanted and you could only get it online. I would open all the different links of it on Amazon and other online websites of local toystores and write down in my notebook and compare all the prices including shipping and trying to find the best deal. Of course I went through all of this only after being sure that this toy would be one that I will play with many times, and that i actually need/want instead of something I'm attracted to buying so that it will be worth the purchase.
      With other things as well 9/10 I end up not wanting the thing after analyzing it as you said with the door dash example (which is soo me. Like I can instantly decide I feel like ordering food, but I don't know WHAT food I actually want to get and end up delaying and spending so much time on it to the point of resorting to making a quick egg or eating a packaged food around the house.
      This isn't to say I'm incapable of making decisions however, because in cases like in social scenarios I just say whatever is in my head without mulling it over, and I can make quick decisions under pressure and in group projects/debates.
      I still don't know my mbti type so if you have any inclination after reading all this please lmk!!

    when i was about 14-16 and really mentally ill lol i was an ENFP (did the test on many occasions heh). now, i'm nearly 18, and my life is completely different -- i am my true, at peace self that isn't flooded with impulsivity and agonising emotional turbulence (thanks ADHD diagnosis, vyvanse, and lamotrigine) -- and i got INFJ. not that ENFP are mentally ill, for that reason or at all lol, but the way i was until now was definitely influenced by those symptoms, so it has relevance upon retrospect. i hope this isn't offensive!
    i picked out each answer VERY carefully and slowly, and after, did a lot of research and thinking as I was shocked, but it also made so, so much sense. of course, our personalities mature and develop as we do, but mine definitely shifted to a place where i was wholly still me, but in touch with the logic and rationality i always was good at applying in every context but myself. it was really interesting to me. also, i do remember then most of the percentages were 50/50ish, apart from feeling which was high 60s. now, they're all between 61-66%, with introverted and feeling being 61%, judging 63%, and intuitive 66%.

      also, i have guessed five people's (both friends and classmates) mbti type, with 3 being correct, and getting the introversion/extroversion wrong with the other two -- this was prior to finding out i was INFJ -- i remember, one was an ENFJ not an INFJ, and the other was an INTP not an ENTP. i also didn't actually know much about what it really meant either. which in retrospect is also interesting.

    INFJ here with ESTP ex (only cuz he ESTP'd himself off the planet).
    When we were young, he'd wanna bounce from bar to bar/party to party very quickly. This would drive me wild, not being able to take in, sort, close out, move on.
    So we devised a system wherein he'd flash me two open palms, denoting 10m, when he was about ready to go and, no matter where I was or with whom I was in conversation, I'd be able to wind it down.
    After many years together, and before I completely retired from that lifestyle exploration, if I wasn't ready to go... I'd just catch up with him at home later or maybe at another destination on the 'circuit'.
    He died before cellphones were ubiquitous. Would've made things a lot easier, with. 😁

    I am an Infp and Isfj people in my life really hate/misunderstood me especially how I respond to things. When I'm in an argument I like to gather first and I really try my best to explain to them but It never works. It's difficult to change me to other people especially you don't feel like changing in front of them :(. Unfortunately, a lot of my family members misunderstood me since most of them are Isfj's and xSxJ's. That's why I just do not talk whenever they get mad at me but force me to talk and it bugs me the shit out of me cuz I wanna be calm and respond to things more peacefully but I lose my temper because It's just too hard to tolerate and It feels like I am forced to talk but when I talk they say I'm wrong or I am saying misleading stuff when in fact that was my reasoning why I did this or think this and that or maybe they're right, Idk bro this drives me freaking insane, they'll never understand me. I kinda wish I wasn't an Infp given that my brain works differently compared to everyone around me. I don't think they're bad people, I just think they'll never understand the way I handle things and I also think I'm too selfish and too emotionally sensitive, I try to be tough but deep inside it just never feels right. I guess not everyone is meant to get along... I need a therapist rn

      i am an intp , and I find it SO DAMN HARD to try and explain why i did something because I jump between different ideas in my brain which leads me to doing something, and when someone asks me WHY i'll have to explain the whole thing and at that point i just look like im rambling and making excuses for it when I was ACTUALLY just explaining the reasoning behind it. like shit dude, i cant control how my brain get out of hand
      and also the language barrier between me and my parents make it extremely hard, bc my parents speak the language of where we are from, and I speak it, but I am most definitely not as fluent as i am in english

    I'm confused now! 😣 I didn't think INFPs would end up in the sort quickly category, especially because of Ne being our aux function. It actually takes me a loooooot of time to make a decision.

    • @ThinkMoreDeeply
      @ThinkMoreDeeply  3 роки тому +5

      It’s more like, as an infp, you have a clear quick sense of how things impact you emotionally and internally. That’s actually an internal judgement (sorting) that other people really struggle with or are clueless of.
      It might definitely take time to apply that personal sorting of things to practical real life or verbalize things to other people - decisions are hard! It’s often also hard when other people aren’t seeing as clearly how you’re feeling! But you might be taking for granted how quickly you can qualify things emotionally and personally - that’s actually quick sorting even though it feels very obvious and automatic for you.

    But why then for example ixxjs make choices faster than ixxps? Like of course me as an ixxp I prior to make a decision now but my ixxj mother prefer to do it later, because I'm jumping to a conclusion but she doesn't have the data. On the other hand it's easier for her to make decision now, even if she has not enough data but I struggle to make it quick and, actually, it doesn't matter how much time I have I still can't make a decision, but I have to do it, so I jump to it, and then I hate myself because I should've do it another way. So, when like in testing there's questions about making decisions on your own or asking people's opinions I struggle to answer because even if I prefer my own opinion I find it useful to share couple of thoughts with my mother, not because she's my mother but because she's the ixxj, and explain why I think one is better than the other and she helps deciding. In the end it's still me who decides though... Just because she's not bothered deciding.
    So, as I get it ixxps and exxjs like to make decisions here and now, while ixxjs and exxps would like to wait but when decision has to be made first couple has trouble deciding and the other just do it.
    That's so strange how I would like to make a decision but I'm unable to but my mother is able to but would not like it....

  • @aniokay

    I would suspect that Si leads would actually prefer to sort pretty quickly? Or I gues that the sorting is a form a post-processing, which I can see that Si-leads as well as the other IJ and EPs do.

    • @ThinkMoreDeeply
      @ThinkMoreDeeply  Рік тому

      Actually Si doms version of gather first - is taking some extra time to gather in more details and specifics, take account of their experiences (“hmm how is this experience impacting me, is this a good experience or bad experience that I want to repeat or learn from?”), and wanting to see if things can get more clear and concrete. It’s not that ISJ’s can neeevver make decisions but sometimes that type of gathering information they find very comforting and really don’t like to rush.
      Does that make sense?

    • @aniokay
      @aniokay Рік тому

      @@ThinkMoreDeeply Yes, very much so. I have an ISFJ friend and it always surprises me how she can wait with jumping to conclusions and asks questions to clarify things instead. I am just the one that quickly notices patterns, while she is very careful about it. Okay, Si gathers details. Got it 😊.
