Christian Bale was my Batman in the mid-2000s to the early 2010s. Robert Pattinson is the true successor of cinematography Batman in the 2020s, imo. And, yes, Batman has flaws like any superhero with the double life as a billionaire and vigilante. But, is it not those flaws which leads to the best qualities that defies "The Cape Crusader"? The Batman 2022 was a great film, and way above Morbius & DS: MoM.
I feels like Robert’s portrays of Bruce Wayne is like an Emo bîtch who cry all day in his tower and jerking off on magazines. The Batman 2022 is just an “ok” Batman movie. There are way alot of flaw in it and not to mention Woke politics.
Bale, Pattinson is drama actor and both characters are psychic🤪 (that haven't realized, torn autodestructive...) masks. And Nolan went through long era ~20y,when becoming and using his drive into something useful, not just as burden. That's mainly difference, If movie is part of years when did started to experience "other side" OK, but isn't, just kid who learned things too late (instead early as should. Trauma makes people "grow faster" in every way. Can ask any psychiatrist) To become what is had to cope with lots more than shows, and much, much earlier!!!
Ben Affleck is the most physical Batman, at least in BvS, but the best voice belongs to Kevin Connroy, as well as the best screenplay, may it be in Batman the animated Series, the Arkham Game Triology, Batman Beyond, Justice League the animated Series, Justice League Unlimited or the animated DC Movies with Kevin as Batman(at least about how Batman is written and except the killing Joke(don't f*** with Barb you danm Idiot))
Ben Affleck is my favorite. He's the only one to get Batman AND Bruce Wayne right. And he looks the part, especially as Batman. The warehouse fight scene in BvS is hands down the best Batman fight scene there is. I would much rather have seen his Deathstroke film than Reeves overrated insomnia cure.
That's a really great way of putting it! It's so real to the character while still playing up the more heightened elements from the comics. I would die to see Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson do a version of The Killing Joke storyline for that reason. It would be bone-chilling but amazing!
The movie states his mother, MARTHA! Suffered from mental illness and that mental illness runs in her family. I can’t help but think Bruce inherited that trait.
@@eskanda3434 I'd say the suit making his basically invincible is heightened. He literally takes an explosion and many bullets. Lucky no one tried to shoot him in the face or even did so by accident
What I’ve learnt from this film… People don’t understand people have different tastes. I love this film despite its flaws and prefer it over Nolan. But some people just can’t get through this film, whether it’s the depiction of batman/bruce, pace, plot or etc. Yet there are so many people who act like no one should like this film and others who think that people who don’t like this film hate something something. Even though I grew up with Nolan, despite the execution not being perfect, it does everything I’ve wanted from a batman story. Has the early feeling of year one, bits of a gothic detective and focusing on how a batman in real life would most likely be incredibly fragile despite his strength and skills (at least early on).
I am tired of the whole "grown man in a batsuit" dig. In the DC universe, it is normal for a grown man to dress up in a ridiculous costume. It is literally a superhero trope. Batman wearing a batsuit is analogous to a policeman wearing his uniform. It is symbolic.
Which I fully understand. But I think what "The Batman" is trying to do is remove him from that DC world and place him more so into our own. Or at least view him psychologically as if he were a real person. It all just depends what you specifically want out of your super hero stories. Which is why I love that we get SO MANY different interpretations of Batman throughout various mediums
@@TheWritersBlockOfficial Even a real person who puts his life in danger to help people is not mentally ill. I told you that real life psychologists have said that batman is not insane and you have decided that someone like batman would be mentally ill in real life. Batman is an example of great mental health. Mentally healthy people channel their trauma into helping other people
The Nolan films showed that so well. Batman was a symbol, and idea. Also, this guy gets it wrong. Batman isn’t crazy. It that was the goal, then the filmmakers also don’t get Batman.
This movie feels like a author-passion project. The tone of the film seems very unigue. New itterations of characters such as Batman and Riddler feels new and charming in a way. In conclusion, we getting very artsy Batman movie, that respect human intelligence and imagination.
I loved this movie for showing Batman in a different way, like, he's known as "The World's Greatest Detective", it was cool to see this side of the character in a movie. And it's cool to see Batman as a symbol of hope for Gotham, in Burtons movies, people are just casually like, yea, there's a dude dressed like a bat out there somewhere probably. In Schumacher's movies, people loved Batman. In Nolan's and Snyder's movies, people absolutely feared the guy. Well, in TDKR, not so much but still. In The Batman, he starts out as a symbol of fear for everyone, but by the end, he's still a symbol of fear for criminals, but a symbol of hope for the people of Gotham to know he'll be there for them. Thats cool to me cuz he is like that in the comics too.
@@TheWritersBlockOfficial Thanks, I just felt like it was cool to see a Batman be that in a movie. The only Batman I don't really care for is Clooney, but over time, I've admittedly grown to get behind some aspects of Batman and Robin. Pattinson is my favorite Batman. His Batman has the best fights, actually is a detective and is more than just a symbol of fear.
Never been a big Batman fan, but I did enjoy the first two Nolan movies, I’m familiar with the Burton/Schumacher films, and this one. I got to say, this movie had the best, and most human, depiction of the character so far. He genuinely cares about helping others and realized he could be doing more by the end of the movie. Also, he doesn’t use guns, any projectile weaponry or kills anyone, which he did almost every previous iteration on film before this movie. While The Dark Knight is a technically better made film with a stellar cast, this to me has the best depiction of the character. Also helps that Batman has the most screen time in the movie this time around.
Lot of Nolan fanboys in this comment section attacking the film which is a shame. I loved the DK trilogy but The Batman just made me feel something else. I feel like the whole “Bruce retired as Batman after one year for eight years in-between the second and third movie” thing ruined the Nolanverse a lot for me. I still love it but it killed a lot of the immersion for me. Batman has already been operative for two years in this film and he’s still only just getting going, which I find really exciting. There’s so many things that I love about this movie; the dark, damp atmosphere of the crime dominated Gotham, Batman’s detective skills, his friendship with Gordon, the musical score, the Zodiac/Jigsaw like Riddler, Batman becoming hope for the good people that live in Gotham at the end of the film, the teaser of Riddler and Joker teaming up in the future. We’ve only been given a glimpse of Matt Reeves’ Joker so far but I’m already so excited to see him in the future. He looks like a genuinely creepy and sick bastard. I loved this movie and the foundations that it laid for the world to be expanded (with at least 3 spin-off shows already in development and a sequel already confirmed) and I’m very eager to see more of this Batman and the almost lawless Gotham that he is trying to save. I’m crossing my fingers that they decide to go with the Scarecrow for the next big villain. Matt Reeves managed to make The Riddler scary in this film so his Scarecrow would be absolutely terrifying.
Most the crybabies in the comment section don’t like the movie cause they have the attention span of a toddler and there wasn’t a bunch of action . They praise the Nolan trilogy and say this Batman has plot holes and other mistakes but u could easily pick out flaws in the Nolan trilogy aswell.Numbers don’t lie the Batman did well and will only get better over the trilogy imo. Also it’s kinda funny how people don’t think this movie feels like Batman when in reality it’s the most live action Batman movie we’ve seen but people have got to use to all the other movies
Batman in the Burton movies was not a "normal guy in a big house", he's socially awkward, detached from reality, and he sleeps hanging upside down. He doesnt even know how to live in his house. He also has the same vibe as the Joker in that movie, and Joker is demented. In Batman Returns when they cut to the first shot of Bruce Wayne, he's literally sitting in a big dark room just brooding until the Bat signal distracts him.
It's very overrated. One movie is bad (tdkr), the other movie has only one likeable character (tdk) and i don't even remember what was up with the first one except that they wasted scarecrow in it
@@elfascisto6549 Your taste is very bad if you think that. All three installments are great. TDKR was never bad. It's just considered a step down from the quality of TDK, which is one of the best movies of all time. It's still highly rated and held in high regard. The Dark Knight is a much better movie than The Batman, which is a very overrated movie.
@@harshjain9615 The Batman is overrated and i have no interest in it, but the Nolan trilogy is the most overrated trilogy in film history. The Dark Knight is NOT one of the best movies of all time, it has literally ONE interesting character. Bale's Batman is a joke, Rachel is boring, Harvey Two-Face just screams sporadically and then dies, Gordon fools his family for no reason besides the script wanting drama. People only like the movie because of Ledger, that's it
I agree with this man’s point. But u have to take in the type of movie they were going for.TDK a more action rich Batman movie. The Batman was supposed to be slow methodical with not a lot of action so they can focus on the emotional state of Bruce. In the Batman it’s a growing up moment for Bruce he realized that he had to be more than just a creature in the dark he had to be a symbol for the ppl Of Gotham to inspire hope for them, he also grew up by realizing that because of him being Batman that will bring more attention to the city and more criminals will try to get at him and as a result of that the city will suffer and it shows that he is still learning about what being Batman is. TDK is a battle of ideologies Anarchy and chaos vs Order the focus of the movie wasn’t Bruce’s mind set and digging deep into his character but to show the audience the clashing of Identity’s and to teach valuable lessons about people and how anyone can be brought down to a level of evil or how people are smarter then u realize and many more so u cannot compare the movies in this way u have to compare them for what they are what each person is looking for in that movie
This movie gets that batman is not pefect, he has so many flaws. People turn his flaws like being obsessive and stand offish and everything like they're cool and a good thing
In my personal opinion i prefer Pattinson's Batman because it focuses more on the psychology of Bruce Wayne. He looks and sounds depressed like he never recovered from the childhood trauma and fights with less control on himself. Plus "The Batman" is more accurate to those comics where Batman is portrayed younger and less responsible, when he started his journey to become Gotham's hero.
I feel this Batman take is more real. This Batman is at his beginning stages. He has not planned out his personas, he has not yet developed his cautious and paranoid backup within backup nature. He is what a young vigilante would be. Christopher Nolan Batman, in the Batman begins looks more like an experienced Batman than a new vigilante. Ofcourse it's because of all his training but a little unbelievable. This Bruce Wayne is unprepared but has the same grit and determination that drives him to bitter ends. I am sure if Robin is introduced as a character it would be more interesting to have a Tim Drake like character than Dick Grayson at this point. A young adult stalking the stalker. And figuring out Batman's identity. Causing Bruce to realise he should be more paranoid and develop him to become more i. To the Batman we love.
Nolan = how. Reeves = why. That’s quite compelling and clever. That already earned my subscription. The rest is very good too. Looking forward to more.
Thank you so much. As someone who's new to this, feedback like that means a lot. I really strive to give people new ways of looking at things when it comes to the media we all enjoy. So glad you enjoyed!
I think you are spot-on about the difference between how and why. I also think reeves and pattinson are much more sensitive to psychology than nolan ever could. I think nolan wanted to make a bond movie. Reeves is committed to the complicated but ultimately compassionate nature of bruce wayne, something he can develop from here on outwards, but something previous movies have so far very much neglected. I keep thinking that in bruce's mind batman is what enables this so far but i hope he'll use his official title as prince of the city more. Really loved seeing bruce wayne not as a playboy but instead as someone who struggles to connect. Thank you for this.
@@TheWritersBlockOfficial ahaha i really didn't enjoy no time to die but did enjoy casino royale! I suppose it's to do with expectations? And i had no expectations for batman because i've never enjoyed batman before.
The idea behind the Batman/bruce Wayne persona’s is that if you met them both you wouldn’t know they were the same person. If u met pattinson’s Batman and pattinson’s Bruce, you would work it out straight away! Because of this, Bale does the best portrayal of Batman/Bruce. His Batman is the real Bruce and Bruce is the cover
The two personalities of the superhero must be combined and adjusted to the tone of the story, that is in the dark knight trilogy there was no problem in seeing a serious batman next to a bruce wayne who was swimming in the fountains of a hotel that he later decided to buy since the city we saw there was not so broken nor did the movie have a dark tone so it didn't look bad, which is why in this new version they decided that there would be no alter ego because when you watch the movie it is clear that bruce wayne does not exist, only batman there is no difference between his two facets making this make complete sense in the film because in that story he has only been batman for two years and his only reason for living is to seek revenge and instill fear in criminals by stopping aside his role as a businessman because it is understood that he is a young batman and it is easy for him to get carried away by anger and hatred, leaving other aspects that are also important in the background. Bale at the moment is just a better bruce wayne being that part where he nails it best because as batman he is the complete opposite the latter being the weakest part of that version.
I’ve always said that Pattinson had the best Batman adaptation ever. The Nolan films were great movies and Batman Begins was a good Batman movie, but the rest weren’t really great Batman movies but rather amazing films. Reeves universe feels like it was ripped from the comic pages and Rob’s Batman felt so much like so many comic versions of Batman in his early years
You nailed Robert Pattinson Batman perfectly. I feel people didn't understood why they feel the same is because he is awkward and disconnect himself from society because him being Batman is all he cares about he does not care about running Wayne enterprises. As Tony Stark says there is the mission and nothing else. I'm glad you understood this
@@thedave6153 Yes there can be sometimes the trauma can be too great you may need a strong coping mechanism and that what being Batman is helping him in his mind. I just like Matt Reeves take on it. Maybe in sequels we will be the Bruce Wayne in the comics
Some of these people in the comments complaining about 2022 Batman being ‘emo’ are honestly unbearable. We’re looking at a man who has seen his parents get murdered in front of him, he’s not going to be just brushing it off that easily. Realistically, this stuff would haunt someone for their entire life.
Liking the Dark Knight trilogy over The Batman or vice versa is definitely up to personal preference, I don't think one is actually better than the other. Many people don't care so much about the psychology of batman's character and therefore might not like The Batman as much, but people who enjoy that side of batman liked the movie. They both portray different parts of batman and do a good job of it.
I like nolans more calm, collected always with a plan and the billionaire playboy persona fits more of what i think batman is, The batman is a good movie but i feel like if you were to push this batman over the edge he would straight up become the joker
After the over-the-top 90s movies, the Nolan trilogy was required to ground Batman in the real world. However, The Batman is more close to some of the darker tones of the comic book stories - it feels like a more direct adaptation. The Batman worked better for me, as i like dark noir Batman and the conflict that must come with committing to being Batman... not to knock anything from the Nolan series, because just how good was Joker in DK.
I’d have phrased it a little different. See, Vengeance was the thing that had so taken control of Bruce’s life and rendered him a paranoid, emotionally severed shell of a man. His addiction to it, Vengeance being the Alfa and Omega of his motivation. The true message of the movie, and confronting both Catwoman and Riddler who were out for vengeance, was his realization that Vengeance alone will never save this city. Alone it will fail. The Batman was as much a symbol of hope for the Gotham citizens as it was for Bruce Wayne. Let go of Vengeance, become The Batman, the hero Gotham needs.
What really redeemed this movie was the message at the end, When the bad guy just apes Batman's "I am vengeance" line and he realizes that what people need isn't vengeance but hope. I admit that was a plot twist I did not see coming and it really lifted what would have been a too somber movie.
Yes! It made it clear that the tone and slightly toxic elements of Batman was all intentional. That moment made it clear the filmmakers were trying to say something, not just be moo dy and brooding for its own sake
To me, it was so unique because it felt like what Batman would be in real life. It felt beyond real. Like him wearing regular combat boots and not movie designed boots, the Batmobile just being a souped up car and some customized moviemobile, or the scene where he was Soaring and could stick the landing, or the scene where he didn't save the day by solving the Riddler's last move and literally failing by watching the city flood.
Completely agree. The Batman was the first time I really felt a live-action movie understood the character as I see him. It was a compelling character study and deep dive into Bruce Wayne's psyche. I personally enjoyed it far more than the Nolan movies.
Simply put, Nolan's Dark knight is the best superhero/Neo-noir crime thriller movie with the Batman as the protagonist, but the Batman 2022 is the best comic movie Batman film till date.
Batman begins= good introduction to bruce but skips in and out if his development The dark knight= had the best joker Rises= had bain In all these movies side characters were all more interesting than batman himself .
So many things wrong with this movie or at least people suddenly forgetting that it was definitely influenced by nolan. This doesnt even compare to nolans movies.
So many things wrong with Nolan’s movies too. So? Why shouldn’t people compare it. They’re all taken from the same source material (comics). Nobody has forgotten that Nolan’s movies influenced it. You’re just making that up yourself. TDK is the best Batman movie but this one is definitely better than TDKR.
@@amuroray9115 TDKR was definitely a disappointment imo, but The Batman was just so pretentious, and stale feeling. It really just did nothing for me. If you liked it, I'm happy for you. I just couldn't really find anything to grasp onto with this one.
Batman is a really great detective, arguably the best. So watching a movie where Batman is an actual detective (you know, trying to detect a villain) was refreshing to me. I think this is a pretty accurate representation of The Bat.
I like that we have so many options for Batman films, but personally The Batman is my new favourite. I like that it's not camp and silly. (I liked the camp, silly takes on the character when I was a kid though.) I agree with what you said about realism. It takes a certain type of mentality to become a vigilante, and I think Netflix's Daredevil and The Batman are the most honest and realistic in showing that mental toll. I hope in the sequel to The Batman we get Pattinson's version learning how to mask his true self and creating the persona of the playboy billionaire. It would be so bold of a filmmaker to actually show the mental strain that comes with faking interactions with "friends" day in day out, instead of the cheap quippy versions where Bruce is just fine with either persona. Bale's version was pretty great, but he isn't capable of convincing me he's a sleazy billionaire playboy philanthropist. He's just too serious of an actor. Then if we get a 3rd film, I would like to see Pattinson's Batman take in/adopt Dick Grayson. It would be fascinating to see this traumatized prodigy child being raised by Reeve's Batman, and actually show how unethical it is to put a child in danger just because they're talented and "mature for their age". I think they could pull off a really interesting version.
I like the Batman, but I can't compare to the Dark Knight trilogy as a whole because it really isn't fair. Even if I compare the Batman to Batman Begins, I have Begins over the Batman. It was a mixed bag of everything that made Batman “BATMAN!” 😂.
Ok basically both movies fans are busy in fighting but i just want to say here that both are good in there own way....I liked the batman same as TDK both indeed can be say as masterpiece
Another thing, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight rises sometimes crosses the "realism vs fictional border" as we can see when Batman catches the falling Joker. Matt Reeve's The Batman is almost crossing the line but never actually touching it, it still remains at the realism side with a mood of a Dark Vigilante Superhero- these resulting in such a very unique and never seen before concept of Batman
At first i thought The Batman was a waste of time, but after some time I've concluded that The Batman is actually the best Batman itteration. so far. It's seriously good.
I'm a marvel and star wars guy but I do like batman movies. I wasn't a fan of the dark night trilogy but batman 2022 blew me away. Definitely my favorite batman. Batman describing the bat signal and how it signals fear in everybody because he could be lurking in the shadows and they show all those criminals doing crimes while they look into the shadows expecting batman to pop out. That scene alone got me hooked on the movie
One thing to note is that Batman forever, while goofy and campy, has some deleted scenes that does go into the mind of bruce Wayne and even has a subplot of people wanting Batman to retire. Highly recommend checking the deleted scenes of Batman forever
The first Blade movie is the first comic movie I remember where the more realistic and dark, gritty material appeared. I'm sure there's others, but I think that movie helmed the new direction of all the neo superhero films.
It’s a Noir movie, Robatman is a Batman that is learning, he’s becoming Batman. His Villains are a couple steps ahead of him or untouchable. Their hubris is what ruins them. While Batman is so telescopic in his motivation that although he’s a couple paces behind he *will* catch up.
Nice analysis. Another thing that I noticed between the movies is that in The Batman, Batman is treated as a character, a human, whereas in the Nolan Trilogy, Batman is just an identity. Probably we see less of Batman in the Nolan movies vs The Batman. Also, Batman in the Nolan Trilogy is portrayed or seen as an urban legend, a myth, hence we see him like perfect or infallible despite being in his first year. Probably also the reason why the fight scene editing is like that in Batman Begins vs the sequels and The Batman. There is also like an end goal for Batman in the Nolan movies, like he doesn’t want to do this forever and wants a way out (Harvey Dent).
Dr. Robin S Rosenberg wrote a book and an article (which is an excerpt from the book) to explore and find out whether Batman fits any psychiatric disorder. In her article, she debunks several illnesses associated with Batman namely: Dissociative Identity Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Antisocial Personality Disorder. She also gave an interview and a lecture, in both of which, her opinion was consistent with the conclusion in her book and article.
I loved Nolas first two Bats, but didn´t like the last one, though it has it moments :) The new Batman movie was great! As a comic fan of the series, it followed many of my personal fave stories. Long halloween, year one, etc... :) Many of my friends, who have not read the comics, were bothered about the movie.:) But i loved it, great to see Batman, on he´s young days :)
The Dark Knight trilogy was only great for proving comic book movies could be taken seriously, but they are insanely overrated. There is no other comic book trilogy that's so afraid to actually truthfully adapt it's source material. The Batman takes a realistic approach while diving into the comic material. The look of Gotham, the criminals and their reaction to Batman, how Batman percieves the world around him, the deep seated corruption surrounding Gotham and how the organized crime families and the Riddler as the main villain tie into and mirror each other. There's 2 types of people when it comes to these movies, the casual audience who love the Dark Knight trilogy and never bothered to read a Batman comic, and the people who HAVE and saw The Batman and knew it was an improvement. The Batman gives us the 1 thing no Batman movie had given us yet, an actual character arc for Batman. In all the other movies, Batman never changes or learns anything, all the other characters change around him as a result of his actions. The Batman showed us a Batman in early years still perfecting the art of being what Batman is, a hero, not just a rage driven vigilante. He starts by only attacking criminals and leaving innocents to tend to themselves and the civilians fear him just as much as the criminals do, but by the end, he has people reaching out to him and he's become a symbol of hope and justice to the people of Gotham and he learns there's more to justice than brute force. Not only does the Batman give us that, it gives it to us without a Robin or a Superman to push him in that direction. He learns it on his own. Nolan just couldn't get behind the actual COMIC aspects fo the characters besides the Joker, who is the only truly interesting villain in the trilogy. Two Face is okay, but Ras Al Ghul is forgettable, Talia even more so, Scarecrow never truly gets a great moment and Bane is one of the worst villain adaptations ever put to screen. It's Fant4stic Dr. Doom levels of bad. The ending of the Dark Knight Rises shows Nolan never understood Batman either seeing as how he thinks Bruce would just fake a self sacrifice and retire the cape and cowl. Batman is the man, Bruce Wayne is the disguise. He pathologically CAN NOT STOP being Batman until he is truly dead or physically can not continue to do so. He's not going to throw it away to go spend the rest of his life in Italy with a woman he only met a few days ago. In the Dark Knight Returns, he only retired because things settled in Gotham for 8 years. As soon as it got back out of control he immediately stepped back into action. In Batman Beyond, he grew too old to keep up, and only then did he pass on the mantle to another who he knew could do the job properly. The Dark Knight trilogy was a fine launching point for the comic book movie renaissance, but there have been far superior CBMs to release since then, and the Batman is certainly one of them. Closing argument is rather a petty one, but I'll stand by it. Nolan generally makes pretentious, bland, overcomplicated movies with a few knockouts here and there. Matt Reeves made Cloverfield, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and War for the Planet of the Apes. Nolan could NEVER deliver a movie of Dawn's caliber, or even War for that matter. Nolan is too busy focusing on having multiple scenes of people just talking and then when the action comes into play it's super clear that he has 0 clue how to film any of it. Reeves' style of filming action makes everything crystal clear, with perfect sound editing that almost makes you physically feel every punch, explosion, shot, or stab. The Batman is superior, I will hear no arguments.
@@rjmacready9828 I didn't even think it was better than Batman and Robin. Batman and Robin is at least Entertaining. This was a fucking Snoozefest. Plus Clooney Batman saved the City. Pat-Man got the City Flood. Im sure the Citizen are happy about that.
Grant Morrison (famous batman author) on Batman's mental health: "I never really subscribed to the idea that Bruce was insane or unhealthy. As I've said before, Bruce Wayne's physical and psychological training regimes (including advanced meditation techniques) would tend to encourage a fairly balanced and healthy personality. Bruce Wayne would have gone mad if he HADN'T dressed as a bat and found a startling way to channel the grief, guilt and helplessness he felt after the death of his parents. Without Batman, Bruce would be truly screwed-up but with Batman he becomes mythic, more than human and genuinely useful to his community. I believe he began to slay his demons the moment he became a demon."
Very interesting quote. I think it comes down to the question of can anyone who results to vigilanteism really be seen as sane? I don't know if there's one single answer to that, but I think that's why there's different interpretations of the character, and also why it changes with the landscape of modern society. Thank you so much for sharing this quote!
@@TheWritersBlockOfficial insanity is a legal term - Batman/Bruce certainly has forms/diagnoses of mental illness but he always seems to be “in his right mind” and not suffer a lot of (if any) breaks from reality
I still don't think the 1989 film gets all the credit it deserves for doing a serious take on superheroes 16 years before Nolan did. People look at the goofiness of the Prince music videos on MTV and analyze the film itself through that lens, which I think is unfair. A good film is still a good film, no matter how tasteless its publicity campaign is. And while Jack Nicholson's Joker was goofy, I argue that portraying a mass murderer as comedic actually makes him DARKER, not lighter. A "funny" monster will be all the more offensive and repulsive, especially if the hero is dead serious.
I actually rewatched it recently and I was surprised by how much I still enjoyed it. The batwing scene to this day is still such a legendary moment. Also Jack's performance as joker is very underrated in my opinion, the way he gleefully kills adds such a dark layer to his portrayal.
The Batman felt like the Batman. He felt like the comics. Raw, violent, unrelenting, vengeful, and in pain both physically and mentally. How they were able to portray a young Bruce Wayne just starting as a Detective and vigilante it shows in everything he has from his armor to his car. Even down to how he carries himself when not in the cowl. That first fight in the subway says it all as who the Batman really is. He's vengeance. He wants people who commit crimes to feel his pain, especially after what crime took away from him. If the enemy wants chaos, Batman will bring it with fear at every corner. The story is what changes him, though, as he knows he has to be better. Anger is what drives him, but that is also his weakness. He also knows that if he holds on to this anger, he will never evolve or get better. Being a symbol of hope is what the city of Gotham needs, but it's also the saving grace for Bruce Wayne. The Batman can be anything you wanted to be, for Bruce, the symbol becomes his savior.
The criminals dont fear or respect him in The Batman😅

@@TheWritersBlockOfficial that is true, but the sparkling vampires just makes me hate Twilight. Plus, a hundred something year old guy after a 16-17 that's in highschool is a little weird
I think Nolan's movies explored the psychology of the character more than enough. There was even a documentary about it in the first bluray release from the late 2000s titled(if I'm remembering correctly) "Batman Unmasked: The Psychology of The Dark Knight" which was a wonderful companion piece. Just cause they didn't explore the character being as weird as Pattison's doesn't make it any less truthful imo, in fact it's a closer depiction to the comics. Pattinson's Batman is like Frank Miller's Batman from early Year One except he's supposed to have done it for two years at this point. For me, stuff like him going into the same club the exact same way as both Bruce and Batman was "oh wow what a complex and unique take on the character" at the expense of logic. I don't see it as being truthful in the sense of being true to the essence of the character, cause it isn't close to the comics, or to what the character probably would be like, since it's kinda dumb and people should have figured out he's Batman by now if that's how he goes about his business.
Begins is my favorite Nolan film for that reason. Its the only BATMAN film. Dark knight is an amazing piece of cinema, but its more of a crim thriller than actual batman flick
@@TheWritersBlockOfficial Some of the greatest Batman stories are pure crime thrillers. Dark Knight focused a lot on Joker but Joker has also been a big part of Batman's character and his psychology throughout the years, and I thought The Dark Knight played that perfectly.
I'm sorry but I think you're missing the point. It's always been said that Batman is Bruce Wayne's true personality and Bruce Wayne is just an act but he has to act like a playboy drunk to throw people off that he could be Batman.. It just sounds like you prefer that he act like Batman even when he was Bruce Wayne for audience sack and not the other characters in the movie. In The dark Knight trilogy they have shown that he falls asleep and is typically tired cuz he's up all night and this is why he uses Lucius Fox to run the business during the day so he can fight crime during the night.
everyone knows that, but humans are much more complicated than what you make this out to be. If you were to go fight crime every night and then continue to live your normal life like nothing is going on, it would be impossible. This life style would leave such a heavy toll on you, that after 2 years of doing this, it would be incredibly hard to distinguish the two life styles. That's what this dude is talking about, the toll it leaves on a person to be a traumatized masked vigilante. It feels more real because someone living like this would be incredibly fucked in normal life, just like Bruce is in this adaptation.
@@stromtrupr13 True, but the dark Knight trilogy also mentions this in many ways. He doesn't truly date, he doesn't go out with friends, or anything like that tbh and If he does he 'acts" like he's a normal person/rich, stupid, and spoiled. Also everybody is different. There are some people in the world who probably could be Batman and not be as miserable looking as Robert Pattinson's version of the character. Some people are able to cope with issues and depression better than others and sometimes become better because of those issues. I think the key is the director wanted to go with a more darker version of Bruce Wayne/Batman
@@KingKhupacabra For a bunch of reasons. For one, after I saw No Way Home just before it left theaters, I was thinking about seeing The Batman with my friends at school, but one of them didn’t want to go and the other said he had already seen it. Then I thought about seeing it with just my dad, but at some point around May, the only theaters still showing the movie near my area were at least 40 minutes away from where I live, so my dad refused to take me.
It's really two different Batmen. Nolan's Batman is a person whose goal is to be a symbol to save Gotham. This version of Batman can retire and live happily ever after he's got lot of pain but his plan is to save lives. The Reeves version of Batman is a man so thoroughly haunted and broken he needs to be Batman...he has a rage and compulsion to be Batman forever. The version I saw would never retired....he'd rather die first. And that's ok there are many versions of Batman. I'm probably more of a Nolan guy but everybody has their taste.
Almost every other superhero dresses up in a ridiculous costume and fights crime. So batman dressing up as a bat is normal in the world which he is a part of. It is a superhero trope. Spider-man also decided to dress up in a ridiculous costume after uncle Ben died. Bruce Wayne didn’t decide to walk-or swoop-around the streets of Gotham in a bat costume because he actually thought he was a bat. Wayne started dressing as Batman because he had a specific purpose in mind: to disguise his identity when he fought criminals. He also wanted his disguise to serve another function: to evoke fear in criminals. Additionally, Batman’s use of his attire is analogous to police officers wearing their uniform, or butlers wearing their uniform, when on duty. Uniforms (of which his costume is one) signal what the wearer’s role is. If you see someone in a police uniform, you expect certain kinds of behavior: If the officer pulls a gun and points it at someone running, it will likely mean something different to you then if the gun-holder wasn’t wearing that uniform. The uniform immediately conveys context to understand the wearer’s behavior.
Ppl seem to not understand this masterpiece..They Compare this with dark knight even both are different ..Not have not fight for sh*t and argue which is best ...They both are masterpiece that's all
I love this analysis! I'm glad people are recognizing what a great interpretation this is. As a longtime fan of the character, the last thing I'm interested in is a Batman we're all familiar with. Of course, there's no such thing as watching a movie wrong, but if you watch a Batman movie with an eye to how it checks all the boxes... you're watching movies wrong. I don't need to see another playboy billionaire Bruce Wayne persona. I grew up on elseworlds versions of the character, from Finger and Kane's original Harvey Apollo Two-Face to Miller's Dark Knight, Mignola's Gotham by Gaslight, etc. What makes the character so great is how flexible he is. What makes his best stories so good isn't how they conform to the formula, but how they stretch it.
Exactly! I think that's why Reeves's Batman jumps right into the middle of Batman's career. The origin isn't particularly interesting to audiences. We want to see someone push Batman to his limits. That's why of any of the Nolan films, the Dark Knight is probably the closest comparison. So glad you liked the video!
Matt Reeves' Batman is far more flawed and vulnerable. Good example is when he uses the wing suit - it's a bid deal, and even getting to the high ledge and looking down scares him - that stunt was nothing for Nolan's Batman.
@@cockroachv Batman is an aspirational character. What if someone was so driven by his mission, he became the best in everything. He overcomes his humanity to become a superhero. This is why he gets to stand alongside literal gods like Superman and Wonder Woman. Do you people even read comics?!?!

Ima just state the obvious tdk is infact a trilogy with clear physical and mental character growth let’s talk in sun years the 2022 film was good and if u simply just don’t like u either didn’t like the pacing and style aka were bored or just blatantly biased as a grown man the film was great but I don’t see it entertaining or grabbing kids the same way as tdk
100%, I seriously don't understand how people overlook this. They also overlook how stylish Begins was with its portrayal of Gotham and they conflate it with the concrete "chicago" look of TDK.
@@jkcrawl even though his psychology is seen, in retrospect, Nolan’s Batman I think always lived with the idea that Batman is temporary. I think because of this it makes his stakes interesting, but not enhances what makes Batman dynamic, noble, & interesting. But this is retrospect, it’s really hard to compare a trilogy to a solo rendition because of this. It’d probably be better if we looked at Batman Begins versus The Batman instead.
Looking at these comments is like looking at the plaga from re4. Personally batman is a better Batman movie but tdk is better overall, in the batman you can clearly track the charactergrowth. Bats realizing that he has to be more than vengance and be better. In tdk he doesnt really progress, he stays the same, its more of a joker movie, its about his ideologies and his moral code over batmans. If you like the batman over tdk good for you. If you like tdk over batman also nice, just let people have their opinions on 2 very well crafted pieces of fiction.
Not here to argue but i just wanted to say a few things about tdk (this is mostly opinion based if you like this movie that great) personally I never really liked this movie that much and always preferred the other 2 to be honest I think the reason why this movie is so loved is because of joker but I feel like the rest of the movie isn’t that good overall I don’t think it’s a very good Batman movie but it is a good joker movie I think if your going to have a Batman movie with joker in it you need to have them have equal parts in it and not prioritize one over the other. Let’s take the Arkham games for example even though joker isn’t the main villain in all the games and is even died in one of them he’s still just as an important role as batman. And another thing those goggles batman gets were he can see though people devices I never liked I always that it was pretty cheesy and goofy but that’s just my opinion. One more thing I’d like to say that isn’t really about the movie and more about it’s joker and how everyone praises it as the best joker and not paying any attention to the actual best joker Mark Hamill, now I’m not saying heath ledger’s performance was bad I think he did an amazing job I just wish people would pay more attention to mark because he is definitely the best joker just like how Kevin is the best Batman.
The 2022 Batman movie was cozy. And I loved the emphasis on the detective aspect of Batman. But something felt off about Bruce Wayne. I didn't care for the recluse emo Bruce. It felt wrong.
I think the issue is people look at something with hype and excitement like the dark knight trilogy and want MORE of that. I don’t think people are wrong for that, I totally understand the love and respect that those movies receive. Don’t think of The Batman as a replacement for those movies, that’s never what it was supposed to be! This was meant to be a NEW take on what Batman could be. The same way The Dark Knight returns (the comic) was a new take on Batman in the 80s, and everyone loves that!! Not comparing those 2 directly FYI, I’m just saying it’s comparing apples to oranges.
Gotham city in The Batman actually felt like Gotham. Its was gothic and corrupt to the core. The dark knight trilogy felt like it was afraid to paint Gotham as a sh*t place to live. It also look like a normal city.
Oh come on. To all negative comments about Nolan trilogy or The Batman 2022, they are all batman movies and we should love them all as they are made for us batman fans and made with love. You don't feel any of them is a cash grab or a disgrace for a Batman character, we are proud of all of them and hope to see more in the future. Also hope that no one spoils Batman like for example amazon spoiled Tolkien, or disney spoiled most of their best movies. So to all batman directors and people involved, thank you for having the same respect for batman as us the fans.
I'll pick the Dark Knight Trilogy any day over The Batman. I haven't been able to watch The Batman a second time but I've seen Nolan's Batman movies over 10 times each.
The Batman is a neo noir detective type of movie. Personally I thought it was a bit boring and way too long, but had some epic scenes in it. TDK on the other hand is more of a fast paced thriller, that had more realism and some heist/gangster elements.
Very interesting points. I did enjoy The Batman a lot (especially the music score), the commitment to Batman as a detective and the tribute to Clint Eastwood's Spaghetti Westerns with the slow scenes of Batman walking to his defeated opponent slowly with the boots. Those were just cool shots. As for content, I think it was a little too complicated upon first viewing. I enjoyed it more the second time to appreciate the small details more. I thought Pattinson did a good Batman. He's my 2nd favorite after Bale's Batman. I'm mixed on Pattinson's Bruce Wayne persona. I do appreciate showing the tormented Bruce Wayne struggling with the toll and consequences of fighting crime in Gotham as Batman. I just wish he tried to hide his identity more when he was in public. He doesn't need to go the billionaire playboy route but some distinction would have been nice since Batman is really who Bruce Wayne is and Bruce Wayne is actually his alter ego. I love that irony that was portrayed in Nolan's Batman Begins. Nonetheless, The Batman was a great movie and is showing promise for this new depiction as Batman. The route of Batman as detective is definitely very effective and different vs. the city saving Batman in Nolan's trilogy.
@@TheWritersBlockOfficial yah I think there definitely underlooked. Even the tell tale games Batman. You should do a video about the video game versions of Batman

I dont think Nolans films not focusing on Wayne's psych is that big of a deal considering the much broader and complex topics it chooses to cover. Also I d9nt think you give Nolans films enough credit for Bales Wayne. The first and third did decent jobs exploring Wayne as a character. The third especially when Wayne's obsession to crime fighting and saving the city leaves his company bankrupt and how he starts disregarding his life and those close to him like Alfred.
The early Batman stories are like that of a Byronic Hero's trope. It was the involvement of characters like his sidekicks, partners, teammates, romantic interests and family are responsible for making him the classic protagonist.
I'm a huge Dark Knight trilogy fan, specially for The Dark Knight movie. But I have to be honest, whenever I think of the definitive version of Batman, the one that comes to my mind is the one portrayed by Robert Pattinson. I've read a lot of comments here thrashing The Batman because it will never be better than the Nolan Trilogy, but I think that's subjective. Everyone has different perspectives and mine is that Matt Reeves did an incredible and unique job with this iteration. Full Respect for Reeves, Pattinson, Giacchino, and everyone involved in this cinematography masterpiece 👏🏼🦇
Totally agree. I've mentioned it elsewhere (and will probably do a video specifically on the movie) but The Dark Knight is amazing but not really a batman movie. Even if The Batman falls short in certain areas of comparison, it does feel like more of a batman movie. Thats why my favorite in the Nolan trilogy is begins

Robert Pattinson is a fantastic Batman, and I'd love to see more of him in the role. That being said, the movie had some ridiculous plotholes like Bats surviving a bomb to the face completely unharmed, or crashing into a bridge, then a bus, then the street at full gliding speed without having a single broken bone, or having enemies conveniently not aim at his thoroughly exposed lower face instead of his armor. I also found it hard to believe a bunch of basement dwelling online creeps could be any sort of threat to frigging Batman.
I mean, managing to hit the lower half of batman's face (which is literally a target the size of your hand) when it's moving at lightning speed and you're in an actual fight for your life, would be a superhuman feat. There's a reason cops and soldiers are taught to aim center mass. And idk who you are, you're going to have trouble taking on 30-40 guys armed with rifles. Anyone else BUT Batman would have been killed instantly.

@@takeserious2641 That's not how armor works. It doesn't make you perfectly impervious to damage. If you get shot while using body armor, the kinetic force is still conducted to your body, which is why it's pretty common for people to break ribs and other bones when they get shot while wearing body armor. The armor stops penetration, but the force of the impact can't be magically nullified. Heck, with a strong enough explosion, the shock wave can break bones and damage internal organs even from a considerable distance, no matter what you're wearing. Kinetic force is no joke. Physics is gonna physics. And half of Batman's face was covered with absolutely nothing, with the explosion occurring a few inches from it. He should, at the very least, have severe burns on his lips, chin and jaw. Same goes for falling long distances at high speed. You could be wearing a full suit of medieval armor, and a kevlar body vest under that, if you fall from several hundred feet and crash into the ground, your bones are going to break. End of story. With enough speed and momentum, steel can be bent and twisted.

This is my favorite Batman movie and Robert BAT-tinson--typo intended--is the my favorite Batman as well. They really dig into him being a detective and his social awkwardness and how weird it is to dress up as a bat in your spare time. I had to tell someone close to me that Batman is the world's greatest detective in the comics but most of the movies made me forget he was even a detective. Also, every movie copies every other movie and Fincher is my all-time favorite director and the best movie they could have possibly paid homage to is Se7en that's the most batman non batman film I've ever seen.
Bruhhhhhhh thank you! I'm really working on my editing and I know most people focus on just the writing in video essays so you've made my day by noticing that. Im not gonna lie I was so happy when I figured out that transition
The Batman is my favorite Batman film, JUST edging out The Dark Knight. Don't get me wrong, I love the Dark Knight, especially the Joker, but I like this version of Batman himself so much more. Kinda wish we could see Heath's Joker with Robert's Batman.
I agree with the idea that Batman and Bruce Wayne are meant to be seen somewhat as foils of each other. Bruce Wayne in public is seen as Gotham’s playboy. The rich billionaire that people love to love but also love to hate. His sociability as Bruce Wayne allows him to work for justice during the day, while simultaneously being able to fight crime and injustices under the cloak of night. While the brooding and sullen personality of Batman, is indeed Bruce Wayne’s personality, it is meant to be hidden under the guise of the “carefree- everyman’s man”popular personality that he portrays. Women think they know him and actually love him, while men also think they know “ Good ol’ Bruce” but somehow among the sea of colleagues and conglomerates, you notice that those who usually try to get too close to him end up scratching their head momentarily, trying to figure out how he alluded them. I say all this to prove that without Bruce playing his hand at “ well known and confident ” socialite, he wouldn’t be able to hide in plain sight. If you notice in the Batman Animated series, even though he always had a brooding sinister type of demeanor, he still has some hope in humanity and still wants to save his villians, however, it seems to be the years start to chip away at his faith in humanity and he ends up more and more reclusive as he gets older. Pattinson’s Batman, going into this reclusiveness prematurely in my opinion defeats the reason as to why and how personality foil,Bruce Wayne during the day, perfectly helps to disguise Broody and loner- like Batman during the night.
Wow, I love your take. But, to play a devil's advocate, this movie might consciously be attempting to tell a story of a dark!Batman, Batman-as-a-direct-result-of-PTSD, a kind of character who was shattered by the trauma of violence a long time ago and descended into vigilantism as a coping mechanism. This Bruce/Batman probably was never a socialite to begin with.
And it's great that it is mentioned in this video as well... Hollywood needs to forget about realism. If I wanted a taste of the real world I wouldn't watch movies, I'd go outside. If we want movies to remain an art form we need to really pay more attention to our imagination. Especially when it comes to superhero stories, they're not about what superheroes would be like in the real world. They're so much more about what the real world would be like with superheroes.... and for the beautiful storytelling that results once somebody realizes this (and I think Reeves did realize it), you don't need realism... you need imagination. Shit, when it comes to comic book adaptation, you don't even need imagination. DC has a century old history of writers and artists with incredible imagination creating *moving* pictures before they were turned into moving pictures. For 30 years everyone did anything BUT pay the respect these artists deserved... in my opinion Batman should never be grounded... he should be able to spread his wings and fly...
And who gives a fuck about comics when you want to watch a masterpiece like the Dark knight? You want a movie looks like a comic then go and read the comic books.

The Batman 2022 was a great film, and way above Morbius & DS: MoM.

Ben Affleck is my favorite. He's the only one to get Batman AND Bruce Wayne right. And he looks the part, especially as Batman. Even though I grew up with Nolan, despite the execution not being perfect, it does everything I’ve wanted from a batman story.

I really hope they lean in to the arkham city plot line with part of gotham being sectioned off to criminals at the end

The Batman was supposed to be slow methodical with not a lot of action so they can focus on the emotional state of Bruce. In the Batman it’s a growing up moment for Bruce he realized that he had to be more than just a creature in the dark he had to be a symbol for the ppl
Of Gotham to inspire hope for them, he also grew up by realizing that because of him being Batman that will bring more attention to the city and more criminals will try to get at him and as a result of that the city will suffer and it shows that he is still learning about what being Batman is.
Well said!

Exactly. That's kind of why I fall on the side of "TDK Trilogy = Better Films" but "The Batman = Much Better Batman Story/Portrayal"

The bond comparison is really apt. Nolan was making casino royale. Reeves was making no time to die
Agreed

Reeves universe feels like it was ripped from the comic pages and Rob’s Batman felt so much like so many comic versions of Batman in his early years
You nailed Robert Pattinson Batman perfectly. Many people don't care so much about the psychology of batman's character and therefore might not like The Batman as much, but people who enjoy that side of batman liked the movie. They both portray different parts of batman and do a good job of it.

The Batman 2022 was packed with no dull moment in 3 hours run time.
Anyone who calls themselves a Batman fan and hates on The Batman isn't a true Batman fan
Why?
The batman is a joke
Not a fan of emo bat man
Every Batman adaptation has differing aspects. Eg Battinson is a detective, which is the best variation of Batman for the riddler.
I tried to watch the Batman twice and fell asleep both times. Boring movie
That moment made it clear the filmmakers were trying to say something, not just be moo
dy and brooding for its own sake
To me, it was so unique because it felt like what Batman would be in real life. It felt beyond real. Like him wearing regular combat boots and not movie designed boots, the Batmobile just being a souped up car and some customized moviemobile, or the scene where he was Soaring and could stick the landing, or the scene where he didn't save the day by solving the Riddler's last move and literally failing by watching the city flood.
I thought I was the only one who like batman Robert Pattinson more than Nolan's trilogy, glad it is more people agreeing with me

Batman is a really great detective, arguably the best. So watching a movie where Batman is an actual detective (you know, trying to detect a villain) was refreshing to me. I think this is a pretty accurate representation of The Bat.
I was excited to see Batman get more focus on his detective skills. Unfortunately, he was a bad detective throughout the entire film.
I like that we have so many options for Batman films, but personally The Batman is my new favourite. I like that it's not camp and silly. (I liked the camp, silly takes on the character when I was a kid though.)
I agree with what you said about realism.

Ooh ill be sure to do so
The first Blade movie is the first comic movie I remember where the more realistic and dark, gritty material appeared. I'm sure there's others, but I think that movie helmed the new direction of all the neo superhero films.
I felt immersed in the Gotham that Reeves created. It was one of the only times where Batman is actually being a detective.
Exactly. He might become a more traditional batman later down the line, but its refreshing to see an interpretation of him at this stage
Exactly! Both are interesting approaches, just very different commentary on what Batman is and represents as a symbol

The Batman feels more personal, you can really feel what bruce was feeling even when inside the suit.
Dark Trilogy was a celebration of Gotham City where as the Batman is a celebration of Darkness. Both concepts great in their own way.
Lol, you can type out a 300 page essay but the batman is and will never be better than the Nolan trilogy. Sorry kid

Grant Morrison (famous batman author) on Batman's mental health:
"I never really subscribed to the idea that Bruce was insane or unhealthy.

Batman Begins explored Batman’s psychology way more than the other two Nolan films imo. Bane and Joker were the focus of those other two

True, but the dark Knight trilogy also mentions this in many ways.

Honestly i still think the best batman film about batman (aka where his story isnt overshadowed by the villan) is still mask of the phantasam.
Matt Reeves' Batman is far more flawed and vulnerable. Good example is when he uses the wing suit - it's a bid deal, and even getting to the high ledge and looking down scares him - that stunt was nothing for Nolan's Batman.
Batman isn't flawed and vulnerable. He's literally Batman.
@@douglashesney6134 touche
@@douglashesney6134yes he’s flawed because he’s human

Batman's psychology can be seen in Nolan's version if you look hard enough, just like you did with The Batman.
Despite Both Movies Fanboys Fighting In Comment Section..Can We Just Can say That Both are MASTERPIECES!
0:47 That music always hypes me up.
Me too!
Same fr and im ready to rewatch any movie of the trilogy everytime i see it on tv.
"Lēād le яat to le light"
I think Batman the animated series is the best version of Batman and the Arkham series. In my opinion. Those are my versions of Batman.
The cast alone (especially Mark Hamil) certainly makes them top tier, and there is definitely an argument for them being the best

The company was bankrupted because Bane made those stock trades which was part of his plan to destroy wayne did you even watch the movie lmao
Absolutely agreed.

@@terragthegreat175 If you see a guy fully armored except for the head, where are you going to aim? It's just common sense, even if you miss.

Just came here to say that the transition from Clooney to Ledger at 1:26 was very slick. Nice work.

Pattinson’s Batman, going into this reclusiveness prematurely
in my opinion defeats the reason as to why and how personality foil,Bruce Wayne during the day, perfectly helps to disguise Broody and loner- like Batman during the night.

The reason this movie works is because of how they captured batmans loneliness and obsessive nature with like such little dialogue
