I took a course on Iraq in college. I thought it was about the country in general, not just the US invasions. My best buddy in that class was a 40yo black dude named Danny who was a veteran and would light up the liberal arts degree professor trying to badmouth the justification of 2 wars he was in. She’d start getting times lines and facts sort of wrong and he’d just be like “oh boy” and interject. Nothing would get done and it was always funny watching a stubborn old black dude tell her the deal. He’d catch me before class and be like “you believe the dumb shit she had us read”. Right or wrong, Danny was the shit.
The most telling part of this story is the part where Matt admitted that he had a misconception about race in America, spent time with a black person, learned, realized he was wrong, corrected his behavior, and the classes response was to criticize that. That tells you what it's really about. That tells you what they really think and why they think it.
People like that always have to take the high ground, which means they have to find something to attack you over. That's why they're insufferable to anyone who's not directly in the same line of thinking as them, and it's why cancel culture is starting to backfire. To expect humans to be perfect is insane. Also most African Americans have around a 1/4 European ancestry. If you ever see black people do 23 and me they tend to have 30-15% white dna, which makes them look distinct from fully west Africans
