I started watching your videos roughly 2 weeks ago. Came across your channel while watching saw mill videos. I'm not much of a you tube guy just mostly for music n hockey fights. As u noticed your the only channel I have and one my daughter added when she was on my phone. Regardless I started going back n like watching wat u are doing with your property. I live in brandon mb but have been traveling 90 mins to work clearing bush n using a mill to use the lumber as we are building cabins n wellness retreat center for people with addictions like a treatment center. Thats how I got into watching sawmill videos.
Mike, Like any professional, you make it look soooo easy! The time and experience you have on these machines is obvious. As a new tractor owner, you provide good advice and a skill level to aspire to.
Good morning Mike. Great overview on how to stone the driveway and perfect timing for me. I have a load coming tomorrow morning - my driveway is in pretty rough shape after the winter thaw and this was really helpful for me. Appreciate the extra effort in explaining the key pointers on how to do it properly. Not sure mine will come out as nice as yours but now I am armed with a little knowledge (might be dangerous).LOL!! Cheers and all the best!
Just read the title for this video. Saw the title and thought to myself - self, he[Mike] must be a hell of a man to throw stones with a tractor. Then watched and shook me head. He[Mike] meant laying stone on the driveway. . . . . Back to the video.....have a day!
Hey Mike. My boy and I scored some red oak that a nasty thunderstorm took down for us. Cut it up. Split it and then WE delivered it to his grampie. My seven yr old was soooo proud of that 1/5 cord of wood. Watch out for ticks they're horrible up this way in NH. Rudy
Mike, I'm sure your RK guy is watching and has probably realized a 4-in-1 bucket would be a real productivty booster for you, and the thousands of people just like you, who do a wide variety of jobs/projects and don't have endless hours to do it. In fact, he's probably already concluded that their King Kutter 72" 4-in-1 bucket is just the ticket and realizes the sales & marketing opportunity he can take advantage of by sending you one. That bucket would let you meter ("tailgate" if you will) out gravel and spread a lot quicker. Not to mention the myriad of other uses it provides....such as reverse scooping dirt/gravel from a pile, grading, grappling....you name it. Just tryin' to help a brotha out!
Good Job! it looks like you sprayed that stone down. That's not easy to do. It's clear to see you've spent a little time on those bucket controls. I learned something today also, I usually dump it and try to spread it which never comes out as smooth as this looks. Thank you!
I really appreciated watching your technique of gradually dumping the rock, that goes against my instincts. Now I know better. Learn something new every day!!! “Keep on Keepin on!” Tim @ Cliffside Acres
You look a bit proud of your sprinkling ability in the closing remarks......and you SHOULD be....wow, incredible job putting down the thin layer by 'shaking' the dump lever a bit! This info will certainly come in handy once my RK24 comes in.
Another great video, with good production quality. Appreciate the advise you provide to us, beginners, any good information is always welcome. By the way, I also think the combination of Sub-Compact + 40-60hp Tractor is almost perfect, in your case RK24 + RK55. In my scenario I only have 1/2 acre and I'm dreaming on one day owning a Kubota B2601 or maybe a RK24. Thank you sir.
Outdoors With The Morgans I’ve been good thanks for asking. Busting it in the shop and now out for summer break driving the bus. I see you been busting it also. Lol
When you get into heavier projects with that rk55, lower the rear tire pressure a bit. It really helped our tractor when we were doing dirt work. If there is blast in this tire ( I think you said there was) it won't hurt to lower the psi a bit!
You should look into edge tamers, they work great for scoping into anything and not destroying the surface under your pile. I use them for way more then I thought with my rk 24, snow on gravel mulch or topsoil that you have a pile of dumped in your yard. Check them out might be something you can use.
Very informative, I have learned a great deal from your videos. I am a John Deere man but have been considering the RK 55. On your videos the engine noise seems loud, do you have any idea if the RK cab is as quite as a JD of comparable hp(maybe a 4520 or 4720)? THANKS FRED
Not enough O's in smooooth to describe this. Some things you just have to have the feel for it. BTW we also call them 57's in TN, which is the main rock in concrete here.
Mike’s property with the low tree branches removes this option, but if your drive has higher branches or is open have the dump truck operator/driver dump the load with several inches of coverage when it is delivered. He will not do some areas due to various reasons, but he can give you a good coverage the width of the truck and save lots of moving and grading work. Ask when ordering your stone and again when delivered.
Richard clarke they sell basic pole-saw and small limb cutters. The reach extended would be in that general length , however on a tri-axle truck, I am not sure that would give the clearance need for the raised bed. m.lowes.com/pd/Corona-14-ft-Fiberglass-Compound-Bypass-Pole-Pruner/50207761?cm_mmc=SCE_PLA-_-LawnGarden-_-Pruning-_-50207761:Corona&CAWELAID=&kpid=50207761&CAGPSPN=pla&store_code=2304&k_clickID=76535b85-3cb1-40a6-b86e-3a7ca34c4572&gclid=EAIaIQobChMInYaXvauw2wIVz4CfCh32VgzEEAQYAiABEgKPVPD_BwE
3 Questions 1) how many ton of each? 2) how much for each? & 3) who did you buy it from? I'm asking because I need both. Thanks for another great video!!?
In case mike doesn’t get back with you.... you first need to calculate the surface area to be rocked and how thick you want to spread the rock. Knowing the area and thickness you can determine the volume of rock you need in cubic yards. Take the cubic yard volume and multiply it by 2. This will be the approx tons of rock required for your job. Crushed limestone here in Missouri sells for about $5.50 per ton. If you are within 30 minutes of a quarry you should be able to have it delivered for $6 per ton or less. Most tandem axel trucks around here can legally haul 18 ton loads. Some trucks can haul much more depending on the number of axels.
Outdoors With The Morgans That's who I called lol. I'm a born and raised Southsider. I work in Mars and my camp where I'll be using the gravel is up by Tionesta. I'm going to do my best to come out to Jeep fest to meet you plus pick your brain. Lol.
Mike I live in south central PA, and I thought you said you live in western Pa? Is crusher run the same thing as 2A modified? I was looking and it looks similar 1.5max like you said and primarily used as base, but I have never heard of it called crusher run around here? also you might have answered that before, but I am to lazy to go back through comments sorry I am lazy lol.
WOW!! I figured out how to watch the videos on my TV instead of always using my smart phone. Great video quality Mike! The driveway is looking great. Have you finished making a trail between the two houses or do you have to drive on the street to get there?
Hey Mike I'm wondering if you could use a section of old chain link fence like a drag/harrow?Maybe weigh it down with a couple of 8"-10" logs?Possibly knocking down high spots? Tried the back blade an box blade made it worse. Tractor I rented didn't have draft control. Any comments are appreciated.
Yes a drag may be helpful, Also something else you can do, get your tractor sitting on grade with a bunch of stone in front of it, then get your bucket level on the ground, lift it off the ground about 1/2" and start pushing slowly. If your tractor isn't sitting right on the grade and slope you want to start its very difficult
Thats a tough one to answer, all depends on what the sub base is like, (Whats under the stone you are putting down) The harder and more solid the sub base is the less stone you need. Make sense?
Looking Good Mike... Don’t know if you ever received any feedback on a question you asked in a previous video dealing with some of your trees being infected with a Disease... You can check the NYS website @ DEC.ny.gov and search “oak wilt” and they go into the matter of what signs to look out for... Hope it helps... Chief {NYS/ADK}
Mike...you're an artist laying down the various layers of stone. Big thumbs up!
Thanks for this video, I’m working on driveway gravel project and this video series has greatly helped
Keep them coming
-Brad
I really like the technique of pulling the stone toward you then scooping it up. It seems to keep the pile in one place instead of spreading out.

Mike love the new music i like that you explain that rocks needed to be shaken out slowly keep up the good work keep the videos rolling
Mike,
Like any professional, you make it look soooo easy! The time and experience you have on these machines is obvious. As a new tractor owner, you provide good advice and a skill level to aspire to.
Great video and information. Really impressed with how easy you make it look and how you do it. Thanks a lot for sharing.
Nice results! As good as the ABG Paver! Nice watch too. See you guys at Jeep Fest next week

Great looking job, excellent 'stick' control! Love your machine operator skills!

Great loader control mike,looks great:)
Quite simply, wonderful photography as always Mike. I am never disappointed waking up to your videos.
Good tips on laying down the rock, thanks!
That driveway is looking really good. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Getten ER Done!! 👊
Hey Mike. My boy and I scored some red oak that a nasty thunderstorm took down for us. Cut it up. Split it and then WE delivered it to his grampie. My seven yr old was soooo proud of that 1/5 cord of wood. Watch out for ticks they're horrible up this way in NH. Rudy
Nice touch. Looks like you know what you're doing.
That big tractor sure moves some material! That's about the only thing I would change about my Kubota B2650 - make the loader much bigger.
Mike, I'm sure your RK guy is watching and has probably realized a 4-in-1 bucket would be a real productivty booster for you, and the thousands of people just like you, who do a wide variety of jobs/projects and don't have endless hours to do it. Wow Mike, spreading like a boss. Awesome job, thanks for sharing that information on spreading.
I really, really like the camera angle at about 5:20 of the bucket going into the rock! Nice touch!
Great info and very nice work on that driveway , thanks
Very nice work! I am getting ready to do a similar project myself and your tips certainly have given me some knowledge.
Good Job! it looks like you sprayed that stone down. That's not easy to do. It's clear to see you've spent a little time on those bucket controls. I learned something today also, I usually dump it and try to spread it which never comes out as smooth as this looks. Thank you!
Thanks for explaining not only why, but how you work. Good stuff. Accomplish more work by working slower.
I have months not years under my belt of "mid to large size tractoring" - but man, I wish I was half the operator you are !!
Great tip for spreading gravel!!!! Thanks!!!
Mike Dickson funny how no one ever shows up to a crushed stone shovelling party...weird
I really appreciated watching your technique of gradually dumping the rock, that goes against my instincts. Now I know better. Learn something new every day!!! “Keep on Keepin on!” Tim @ Cliffside Acres
Its starting to take shape Mike....nice.
Love that "bucket cam"!
Nice work Mike!
That driveway is certainly looking smarter 👌
You could do with a tow behind roller for compaction.
That looks great Mike, I've spread like that with a tipper but the bucket works well, good job.
Mr.Morgan u can really handle that gravel spearding...👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great advice, Mike. If I ever have to make a driveway, I will know how.
You look a bit proud of your sprinkling ability in the closing remarks......and you SHOULD be....wow, incredible job putting down the thin layer by 'shaking' the dump lever a bit! This info will certainly come in handy once my RK24 comes in.

Thanks Mike ,, enjoyable video as always..
Wow looks great Mike!
Love the bucket cam shots!
Thanks Mike you done very good job .
Great Video Mike, You put that stone down like a BOSS!!! Lol👍
Steve Bradley, how you been Steve?
Outdoors With The Morgans I’ve been good thanks for asking. Busting it in the shop and now out for summer break driving the bus. I see you been busting it also. Lol
Heart of stone. Nice touch.
Very nice job!!! I can't wait until I get my new tractor.
When you get into heavier projects with that rk55, lower the rear tire pressure a bit. It really helped our tractor when we were doing dirt work. If there is blast in this tire ( I think you said there was) it won't hurt to lower the psi a bit!

Another awesome video Mike very enjoyable buddy keep it up
Pressed liked in first 2 seconds. Awesome slo-mo intro
Yes! Thanks for teaching me!

Coy Patton I bought a hand saw in a long stick and can delimb 15-20 feet up the trees. Cost $70 and I love it.

A great job mike
Looking good!
Looking good 👍
Your RPMs sound constant over that entire video. How do you do that? Are you setting a hand throttle?
MIKE you make it look easy but i know it`s not you are just good

JP Hickory Thanks for the info. I need 22 tons of both. I called a place by me in Pittsburgh and they said $900 for a tri-axle load.
Mcclymonds is where I got it from, runs almost 500 a load now. Triaxle can haul just under 23 tons. Approximately what area around Pittsburgh are you?
That’s interesting. Apparently we have cheap limestone here in Missouri. Lots of quarries near where I live. Good luck with your project.
Outdoors With The Morgans That's who I called lol. I'm a born and raised Southsider. I work in Mars and my camp where I'll be using the gravel is up by Tionesta. I'm going to do my best to come out to Jeep fest to meet you plus pick your brain. Lol.

Very nice....
Do all your tractors have the detent for backdraging?
tank0military yes
Nice job
Hey Mike I'm wondering if you could use a section of old chain link fence like a drag/harrow?Maybe weigh it down with a couple of 8"-10" logs?Possibly knocking down high spots? Tried the back blade an box blade made it worse. Tractor I rented didn't have draft control. Any comments are appreciated.

Tour de France, more like Tour de Tractor. Lol
I had figured out your loader shaking trick for sprinkling gravel. I'm just not nearly as good at it as you are.

Its the "crusher run" channel ;)
I also love my crusher run (aka 304 crushed around here). The stuff is amazing how it tamps down and hardens up.
Tks, how much property is it.
👍👍👍
Why didn’t you have the delivery guys just tailgate it Mike? I probably know the answer combo of tractor time and depth of delivery?
Way to many tress limbs
i have a Samsung Gear S3 and it thinks I'm bicycling when I'm using a lawn tractor to mow .
how many ton of rock were those piles ?
Chris Schmauch, almost 23 tons each
Why did you buy this property for?
Paul Lavoie, it joined ours and I didnt want a housing plan back in the woods
My Gear 3 thinks I'm on a bicycle when on my motorcycle. 65mph at 80bps and I'm in the 99th percentile of riders. ;}
Come do my driveway/parking lot please ;)
If I win the wood stacking contest can I have one of your tractors
If you keep showing people how to do driveways you won't need people like me. I drive a dump truck.
Good looking stone!
Smooth
