1997 Dodge Ram 1500 Headlights Not Working

- Hello! This is a really quick video, but possibly a very useful one. In this video, I talk about how I somewhat "solved" the issue of my headlights not working on my truck. I mean, it has been a few weeks and the problem has not come back, so I would call this "solution" successful.
I had a similar issue with my headlights. The running lights would not come on consistently. Found out that I had a bad headlight switch and partially melted headlight switch connector. Once I replaced the headlight switch, it fixed my issue. The headlight switch and its connector had been recalled on 2nd gen Ram 3500 trucks, but the problem is very common on all 2nd gen Rams. Please check that headlight switch & connector if you're experiencing weird headlight issues!
Thank you so much. I did everything I could and even took it to a mechanic, we couldn't figure it out. I traced the line, swabbed out light bulbs, and changed the fuse then I turn to your video and bam, it works. Thank you for making this video.
Brilliant! Thank you for this post... that fixed it! I was dreading heading to the parts store and trying to figure all this out in the pouring rain... Thank you thank you thank you.
Frick'in Awesome!!! I spent two hours going through all fuses and wiring harness evaluation to no avail. Did this and it worked! Thanks man great post!!!!
THANK YOU!!!! Wow, I had planned on spending a day tracking wires and fuses.. Flick of the high beam switch and fixed !!!
Worked like a charm. Great video thank you
Bro 100% worked i just came from my house to work and it was working fine i tried leaving still in the dark no lights came on tried the UA-cam fix and ill be fuckd it worked like a charm thanks man life saver!
If you pull the actual switch out on the bottom of it there is a resettable fuse that looks like a little silver button.
Worked for me! Thanks!
I just had this happen about a week ago. I did what you just showed, So, how does this fix what happened? So what is going on between this low and high beam? For the headlights not working. I don't want it to happen again.
Rhiz worked perfectly. Thanks for posting.
I'll check it out hope it works
Thank you
PSA: TO ALL THOSE SAYING I DID NOT SHOW A SOLUTION- WATCH AGAIN FROM
It is sad that for the last 30 years there have been constant issues with the light switches on these trucks...When I bought my Ram 2500 Cummins everyone told me my truck would just fall apart around that great engine it has, Sucks that they were right...
I have to hold the high beams stick back the whole time
That actually worked for me too. Thank you for posting this video you helped me. Is it still working when you do this?
So on the 1997 Dodge Ram it is required too pull the nob in order too use the headlights at at any circumstance? Because when I would push the nob all the way forward all lights turn off, with the nob half way the dash lights and side and tail lights are on but not the headlights then when I pull it all the way out they headlights come on which is what I want. But when my truck is off and I shut the door the lights stay on unless I push the nob in all the way. Is this something I just need to remember doing when driving this truck?
I was doing that but my high beams won’t stay on anymore
I have same problem but my dash lights also go off and won’t come back on
