- In this one I am taking a closer look at the amp - turning knobs and figuring stuff out with this MB Guitar Stratocaster. These aren't always the most entertaining types of video, but I hope it is a useful one!

Why do i feel like i might come across as a bit grumpy at the beginning of this 😂
For what it’s worth you didn’t come across grumpy to me while watching this video. I was well impressed with this particular video actually. Your confidence in what you want to get across, your playing and striving to be descriptive and objective is all great. It would be fab if more reviewers took such a diligent approach to sound, feel and familiar reference points for your target audience.
Don’t fret, but keep in mind a lot of viewers are not really target audience and have no inclination of getting into such top shelf gear. But like I say your approach in this particular video is brilliant for the viewers that would consider such gear. Awesome… now I want to see if my own personal preference for high power TR’s can change when I try a Vintage Deluxe one day. I think I’ll try a comparison with a Bartel Starwood… 😊
nah you´re not grumpy at all^^ at least for my taste :)
I’ve got absolutely no intention of buying this amp but I tune in anyway just because I like the way you do stuff - so no definitely not grumpy at all
Thanks for the really comprehensive overview, it reminds me of the Bloomfield Drive overview that was the first I watched from this channel!
Great review! Your playing is getting better and better. Terrific job👍🏼.
Great video as always, and i was happy to see you used that beautiful MB strat, I have the exact same ;)
That amp is dreamy. I have a Studio Signature combo and it is fantastic, but I am now very tempted to upgrade. You get great tones from your gear, partly to do with you playing style I expect. Really enjoy your vids - keep 'em coming!
Love the black MB strat. Thanks for a great demo.
As always, great vid mate.
Thanks for this, been thinking about making this my first Two-Rock.
Very nice amp. Thanks for the demo! I think the Vintage Deluxe is the one. 😎
Youre playing has been getting really good. Its obvious ypu put the time in between videos.
❤ thanks for taking the time to make this video ! Great amp imo.. not cheap though ... 😵
The informative nature of the video might have had the potential to be pedantic, but the great playing and absolute stellar tones made this really enjoyable.
Excellent, informative video, James. Very nice playing as always. First impressions are that this is possibly the most characterful Two Rock amp I've heard. It'd be interesting to hear how well it takes a range of drive/fuzz pedals. In my experience, more neutral (not sterile) amps can be more versatile in this respect and come alive with pedals, even if they lack immediate character on their own. The Vintage Deluxe may not be intended as a platform for pedals of course - Two Rock already have that covered with other models - but it's nice to have that option, especially given its not inconsiderable price tag. It will be great to hear it compared to the Classic Reverb too, so I'm very much looking forward to that video. Keep up the great work. 🙂
Re: 6V6 vs 6L6
Just for reference … it’s my understanding that Matt Schofield has been touring with the a 6L6 prototype version of the Vintage Deluxe paired with a Classic Reverb Signature.
James…. Really enjoying your demos of this incredible new amp from Two-Rock… looking forward to the next installment.
Interesting how differently the amp sounds here vs. the Peach guitars video. I think it's a matter of personal taste. You seem to gravitate towards a more darker and rounder tone whereas the Peach guys have it set much brighter and more open. I must say I am in the latter camp all day. This video would not have sold me on the amp but the Peach Guitars video did. But if anything, it just shows the versatility of the amp. Great video!
Yeah- that’s fair! It can cover a lot of ground and also in videos like these i just try lots of settings without using my preference really. Also keeping in mind the Peach room - which i have used before - is a very bright room compared to most others, being fully wood and v large also! Amps don’t sound the same in there in my experience of recording there a few times. Cheers
@@JamesOnGuitar interesting observation about the Peach room.
Just commenting as I go along watching, would be really interesting to see how that texture switch compares across the two models of the vintage deluxe- since the 6L6 version is tube rectified I wonder if the texture effect would be more dramatic..?
which cab did you use?? would it be possible for you to have access to both the 1x15 and the 3x10 and compare please?????
I am wondering in which venue you can play 108 dB these days....that's why I switched to the digital world because such great amps don't sound right at low volumes and one is never capable to cranck those amps to the sweet spots.
But really great video James! Thx
But… this one does! Watch my previous video too. It sounds and feels very much better imo to anything digital i’ve played. This amp comfortably plays at 82-88 db sounding incredible and perfect for mic’ing up. Just to add also, 85db is never going to feel as great to play as 95+ of course. Just the sheer volume gives an almost euphoric effect. But i’ll take an amp like this that can produce the same core tone and feeling at low db as it can at high, just minus the extra x factor of playing loud. So if you have to play at low volume anyway, something like this would definitely still be my personal choice. Cheers 👍🏼
Also i definitely know players who can gig at over 100 db. There seems to be two separate set of experiences i hear from people who play live about volumes they can play and i think it just comes down where they are able to play etc
@@JamesOnGuitar Aynsley Lister for example. By the way, do you still have that Rift amp? This is my dream sound!
yep @@JamesOnGuitar
I have a custo shop strat that sounds also so dark and course, i think te two rock makes these issues Biggers
Very nice demo, as usual! Could you share the mics and mic pres used on the cab here? I’m starting to dive deeper down that rabbit hole, and I’d love to hear what you use since your demos sound so good.
Never played me a two rock that had any vibes. just don't get me the love these amps inspire. too clinical for me
That amp can replace many of drive pedals
I need to find channels that focus on gear I can actually afford and wouldn’t be afraid to take out to the bars. Great amp, but totally out of reach for most working pub musicians.
credit card debt amigo lol
I love the tones you get, but have you considered getting a tripod or mounting your camera somewhere? This passing the camera back and forth is tiring.
I mean i definitely have tripods! That’s how i get my playing shots! But actually, funny you should say, it is on my mind. I see it is a sort of level up, to find and make a nice space to speak to camera properly. It will happen in the new year. I moved to this way of doing it because it is quick and i can ‘stay in the moment’ with my thoughts. But i am also a bit tired of watching it when editing. Cheers
A very nice and serious amp- and a very serious, not so nice price. Pass. I just grabbed a slightly used hand-wired Griess tube amp for $400. I use a Y out to to separated speaker cabs 10 feet apart. Sounds amazing. Sounds every bit as good as this amp...and it cost me less then the tax I would pay for this amp. It takes my pedals like a dream. If you are a gigging pro, just get a Fractal and be done with it. If this amp ever shows up used for under $1,000 I might get one. Again, it is a seriously nice bit of kit.
How much more did you like it over say a Fender Reverb Deluxe 12" + Tube? Even the Fender is about 1/4 the price. I am sure the components on the Two Rock are much better but still. That's why I went custom as well. The Fenders sound great but notoriously noisy and the Trem goes out often- like every used one at GC the Trem does not work. I use my Flint pedal for that and verb. Works flawlessly and sounds very nearly as good.
English people pronounce the word sterile much more pleasantly than Americans.
Push your Amp …😩
$7000..... for an amp...... FFS.... ridiculous
Ridiculous - why?
@@JamesOnGuitar There are no components, labor, or R & D costs that justify the price tags that Two Rock put on their amps. Whatever the product, charge what you want. The market will decide, and people obviously buy their amps. I just think the price for the product is ridiculous.
They just choose to pick a different segment of the market ... apparently not the high volume low price segment 😂
I just picked up a vd combo, there's no price tag for the way it makes me feel nor the way it inspires me to play. But I also never want to live a life where a price tag keeps me away from experiencing amps I enjoy
@@sunnibirdTwo-Rock amps are worth their price tag… you probably are just not their market target, but it doesn’t mean their prices are ridiculous… and a lot of Two-Rock owner (like myself) will beg you different. Sure, prices are high, but not ridiculous, surely not if you value high-end quality made by a real boutique company, and not some so called “boutique” amps that have production made oversea or in mass production line by 3rd party (like Friedman, Soldano, Morgan and other amps of the Boutique amp distribution group). Two-Rock is a 7 or 8 persons company that hand-built point to point amps, it’s night and day with your basic Fender… they’re more like modern day Dumble. If you don’t like it, just don’t buy it, the company can survive without your purchase since they can barely produce fast enough to honor the current demand.
