What Does The TWO ROCK Bloomfield Drive Really Sound Like?
In this one I am looking at the Two Rock Bloomfield Drive. Is it the right amp for you? I also compare it to the Classic Reverb Signature and Joey Landreth Signature.

In this episode of Tone Heaven I play Meet Me In The City by Junior Kimbrough/The Black KEys with my Gibson SG and some pedals through the Two Rock Bloomfield Drive. I really enjoy this tone, and the key to it I think is the Rare Earth Germanium Device from D Kowalski - it has this sort of broken speaker breakup that I like in a fuzz, and also cleans up really well. For those who read my previous comments essentially the question is.. will the Bloomfield drive can hold Yellow Ledbetter (PJ), Riviera Paradise (SRV) as well as Sweet Emotions & Eat the rich (Aerosmith) at the same time?.. for the first two I can say yes,.. because I tried with a strat.. but what about that crunchy 70/ 80’s humbuckers tones?.. is an amp that can meet both flavours even with a little help from an overdrive pedal?

  • @jamesemerson4102

    Interesting that you mention you found the Bloomfield difficult to get your head around. I found the Bloomfield to be much more usable than the CRS. The Bloomfield has that second channel which takes pedals really well, especially fuzz - (sounds AMAZING). The design of the 2 channels and how it works with the reverb is genius. The CRS is easy to dial in but IMO, It only sounds really great when you play it LOUD. I really didn't like it with the Ox attenuator at all and I didn't like it with Humbuckers. It just sounded flabby with humbuckers to my ear and it turned into a squishy mess with the attenuator on. I ended up selling it. The Bloomfield is the best amp they ever made IMO. It sounds good with every guitar and pickup type. The clean is nice and spanky and has an amazing snappy feel to it. It can go from almost vintage Jimi Marshall tones to an almost dumble ods lead tone. Not to mention, you can play it at lower volumes and still get drive from the amp. Oh, and the reverb sounds Amazing on the bloomfield. I much preferred it to the CRS Reverb. A fantastic amp and I think Two-Rocks best amp ever.

    Bloomfield's lead channel is a one trick pony. It's a good trick nonetheless, but I find myself needing such tone so rarely that I'll need all of my pedals still. I think CLRS is way more versatile with its three gain structures and one channel.

    • @jamesemerson4102
      @jamesemerson4102 3 дні тому

      Really? I find the opposite. I owned the CRS and it's ridiculously loud for one. You can't escape it because with the attenuator it just got all squishy and lost all articulation. There is no second channel and so you're running pedals into one extreme headroom channel - doesn't work great unless screaming loud like Matt Schofield uses it. The Bloomfield has the second channel which is absolutely perfect for running drives or fuzz into. The Bloomfield can give you proper clean tones unlike the CRS cleans which are always somewhat overdriven. You could also just use the clean channel for a pedal platform? The reverb sounds way better on the Bloomfield. I thought humbuckers sounded very uninspiring with the CRS but amazing with the bloomfield. To me, the Bloomfield is the clear winner.

    • @RealROCKnROLLA
      @RealROCKnROLLA 3 дні тому

      @@jamesemerson4102 you're right, it can get crazy loud really fast, but you can work with it. Mine sits at 85 db on average. Trade-off being you have to buy expensive overdrives with good circuits, where volume doesn't change the tone of the pedal. I run it on the second EQ with gain and master around 10 o'clock. If I use the upper gain structure, I drop master a little lower. Anyway, I can't wait to move away from the city and be able to just blast it however I like haha.

    Great great video.. and perfect timing .. as I m away looking at Bloomfield drive videos to convince me and pull the trigger….Once not too long ago I made the mistake of playing the Bloomfield drive with a cS strat in a guitar store … it blew my mind…3d sound, the harmonics, and the list goes on.. but for 20 or so minutes i felt I was a much better player... (bedroom player)…I love GNR, Red hot chilly peppers, Pearl Jam, and I can keep going.. so surely my dream amp has to be a Marshall… but this one was sth else….. soo hard to make my mind 😅..

    You're a great player and I enjoy your licks a lot. But I feel that you can achieve the sound you're looking for from almost every one of these guitars by using the EQ on the guitar or getting a specific Amp which you like. I say this from experience. The only thing that's actually hard to deal with is a muddy neck pickup ( in my opinion ) such as Burstbuckers. Amp and tone knobs on the guitar can get you closer to the tone you hear in your mind. I definitely like how you started playing the Les Pauls acoustic acoustically first. I also check carefully the weight distribution on the wood from neck to body.

    These amps are tonally different out of the gate. It would be easy for someone to say one is better than the other because all of those Dumble wanna-be's are very mid focused, and mesa has never tried to be Dumblesque. Randall was really always a huge fan of Leo Fender and you can see that in his tone stacks that he built. I believe Mesa's are very versatile amps, but they usually end up in the metal corner which is just one way to use them. They are very capable amps. I have 2. A Mark V 90 and a Blue Angel. Great amps. I never really got with the whole Dumble thing because 1) Its mainly mystique, and 2) I've personally never been a fan of any of the big name people who used them from a tone perspective. I mean they have good tone, but its never grabbed me to the point that I Jones for a Dumble clone.
