Checkered Past is Becoming Stagnant

- Lately the Checkered Past block on Adult Swim has been playing it too safe and not taking enough risks by sticking to the same handful of shows and not having any major expansions or block debuts. What makes the future of the block more uncertain is the block losing Fridays to Toonami Rewind, however I believe Checkered Past will stick around for a while because of the unprecedented high ratings. Also Samurai Jack never even got a chance and only lasted a few weeks.
Not just that, MeTV Toons has absolutely NO plans whatsoever to air classic Cartoon Network shows in the foreseeable future, it ever. This gives Checkered Past an even better reason to just go all out rather than stifle the block. In other news, Adult Swim plans to further expand internationally, primarily in Europe.
They need to rotate new shows to the lineup instead of the usual 4. Here’s one idea…
Bring back Cow and Chicken, let it rerun the whole series and then switch it to I am Weasel. Once Weasel is done, go back to Cow and Chicken on the same time slot.
Same with Billy and Mandy. Rerun Grim and Evil. Then rerun Billy and Mandy. Then rerun Evil con Carne and then go back to Grim and Evil on the same time slot.

Well apparently you've never had this idea for a while so apparently it would be a great idea.
The very least the block could do is go back to airing four shows within two hours again. Maybe it can be Dexter, Eds, B&M and Courage from Mondays to Wednesdays, and on Thursdays we have Cow and Chicken, Weasel, Evil Con Carne and Samurai Jack. Or the block should just expand an hour to airing three shows for each hour, and shows like Robot Jones or Johnny Bravo should be added.

That's also a good idea! Have different shows playing on each day. Monday can be Dexter's Lab and Courage, Tuesday can be Edd n Eddy and Billy and Mandy, Wednesday can be Cow and Chicken and I Am Weasel, and Thursday can be Evil Con Carne and Samurai Jack.
@@ArtieRaccoonReviews I agree . Have Toonami Rewind to extend with Outlaw Star at 7:00 pm & Blue Seed after Naruto 😊 at 7:30 pm (Since Sailor Moon is at 5 , DBZ Kai at 5:30-6:00 pm & Naruto at 6:30 . So extending it would be a great idea . If DBZ Kai's run does end on either Rewind or Saturday night , put Star Ocean EX in its place. What do y'all think?

Honestly at this point checkered past should’ve been on Cartoon Network so more shows can appear like Powerpuff girls, codename kids next door, fosters and many more from the 1996-2008 era

Or rebrand boomerang to Checkered Past since Boomerang is a dead waste ground these days and needs a rebrand badly annnd Checkered Past looks like a good candidate from a block to a channel.
MeTV toons are taking the majority of what is supposed to air on Boomerang, so a Boomerang rebrand is needed since boomers will be long gone by the 2030s or 2040s which means that Checkered Past should be a channel and phase out the Boomerang name and branding.

@@madden8021Actually, I can’t even see anything wrong with what you said, Boomerang lost their meaning and MeTV toons Is doing what boomerang was suppose to do since the beginning so at this point it needs to rebrand to air old CN shows plus I’m pretty sure that most of them will still hold up for kids

There's so much more they can do to expand Checkered Past and Toonami Rewind, but they are being wishy washy and doing the bare minimum with them. At the very least, the blocks should be 3-4 hours long and Toonami Rewind shouldn't just be Fridays only.

At this point they’re just trying to gain trust back to the viewers they drove away in 2016
Here's what I think CN should do:
Give Checkered Past to CN so it can have its extra hours back (And then some if possible), that way they can air a lot more of their classics (Like Powerpuff Girls, Foster's, Ben 10, hell even Total Drama if they could). It may not completely bring them back to their former glory, but its a very good start in my opinion. Why they haven't thought of this yet is beyond me.

All of those EXCEPT Total drama island, it just feels TOO recent and I know it’s a show made in the 2000s but that’s too late.

People forget that Cartoon Network IS Hanna Barbera(Until one of the 2 Founders Died, & was Renamed Cartoon Network Studios).
Exactly, they have been part of the same family all along.
To be honest I feel like it could make sense that they could add more of the old CN Shows onto the block and add in like 2 more hours worth of that content
So that way they can make room for more of that content
The problem is that not all of CN’s shows fit Adult Swim & only 10 of them they have access to.
I agree with what you have said about Checkered Past in this video except for showing Cartoon Network shows from 2004-2009. 1996-2003 and 2004-2009 Cartoon Network shows are two different periods of the channel’s history. I think Checkered Past should stick with shows from 1996-2003 and the shows from 2004-2009 air on Cartoon Network, preferably Saturdays. I was actually waiting for someone to do a video talking about Checkered Past since Toonami Rewind began. Do not get me wrong, but I do enjoy Ed, Edd, n Eddy and The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy but we need more! Thank you for this video!

It's Sad that the Only Adult Swim Cartoon International Fans know of is Rick & Morty.
That and Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Not sure how far across the world Smiling Friends has gotten yet.
I wish Cartoon Network and Adult Swim would finally just split up. Cartoon Network can have Checkered Past at night (why they don’t already air old shows, i don’t know) and Adult Swim can expand Toonami and original content.
Thankfully, WB is finally putting some effort back into CN with the lineup of new series they announced, but i definitely think they need to add Checkered Past to fill in the time slots that probs would’ve had TTG. I’m not sure if they think kids won’t watch them cuz they’re not new and shiny, but a cartoon is a cartoon. Kids will probably get into them regardless of it’s age and it pays some respect to the series that built CN.
When I was a kid, I didn't really care whether or not a cartoon was new or old. As long as it was entertaining and not boring.
I loved having Cow and Chicken on the block, because I really like that show. Really, why make it so limited? Dex and Grim are great, along with the Eds (probably my favorite) and Courage, but my nostalgic past with cartoon network that I want to return to (as the block claims it's doing) are not those so much. I want Mike Lou and Og and Sheep in the Big City, and other less known stuff. Like, keep your big boys on regular 5PM-6:30PM every day, but make the last 30 minutes something different every day.

Unrelated, but MeTV Toons is not gonna be in Detroit on the day it launches. This TV (the channel) shut down, and there are 2 Cozi TV channels.

in my opinon, cartoon network's classic era depends on how much time passed. Its been around 14 years since the last cartoon cartoon was considered "old" which was flapjack which was around 2 years old at the time. Cartoon Network drastically changed during this time over the past 14 years. Actuallly the first cartoon cartoon ever "Dextars Labratory" was 14 in 2010. So I believe that anything the is pre check it 3.0 is classic cn or atleast pre 2012 tbh. Adventure Time premiered during the noods era, So yeah. All of the rennisance is about a decade old and all have ended. So I feel like since how cartoon network has changed, those shows can retire happily. But this is coming from the same guy who thinks flapjack and the cn rennisance were in the same era of shows lol. But yeah what do you think.
Johnny Bravo is the 1st Cartoon Cartoon since the branding debuted that same year and the last is Billy & Mandy & Evil Con Carne.
The common consensus these days is that the pre-Check It (before 2010) CN shows are considered classic, except for the people who still lie to themselves and say the channel died in 2004.

It depends on what shows you like. If you really like Billy and Mandy and Ed Edd n Eddy then you are in heaven. I am lucky I do.
I like those shows as well and are my favorites out of all the shows from the block, but they could still add new shows
I wish they would have toonmai from 7-10 after checkered past since it would make sense 😕. I hate the fact they have adult swim so damn.. early with king of hill and bob burgers 🍔 taking up those times.. its just dumb... to me.

I like what they show: Cow & Chicken, I.M. Weasel, Ed, Eddn' Eddy, Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack, Evil Con Carne, Courage the Cowardly Dog and Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. Wished they also aired titles like these: Johnny Bravo, The Powerpuff Girls, Time Squad and Codename: Kid's Next Door. They're also great Cartoon-Cartoons of the 90's and early-to-mid 2000's. If Checkered Past aired those four, I'd lose my mind, in a good way.
They have no reason not to do it, they're just being lazy
@@ArtieRaccoonReviews I guess so, or perhaps they forgot those exist? Too bad Checkered Past stopped airing both Ed and Grim on the 4th. Say, if their schedule has gotten stale from airing the former eight I mentioned, maybe they can air the latter four I mentioned, to mix things up their scheduling to keep it interesting.
mostly the point about checkered past is catering to the 90s and 2000s part of the fan base. it really depends what shows they get access to. Same could be said for toonami rewind but its not like i expect them to rerun bobobo-bo bo-bobo anytime soon in the nostalgia line up. nostalgia can only take you so far, til you get burned out by it.
Also i should mention that counterparts of cartoon network from some countries not necessary have these problems and handles the concept of putting out variety from years on it, better then ours. like cn Japan for example, airing our classic cartoons, new shows, and even their own domestic animes and animation. Unlike our cartoon network which has adult swim or toonami at night, japan cartoon network has "Cartoon Network NITE. i think its clear which country takes art and animation seriously as a general audience/all audience thing. Especially when those countries laws culturally differs.
I've heard about Cartoon Network Japan's CN Nite block, it even airs Regular Show!

Also, some other updates in my life, I’m going to a museum on Tuesday to see pictures of dead relatives. I also found a glitch with my tv, for some reason, I can only get two Iowa channels. But thankfully I’m getting my “cable” when I turn 14 on July 12th. See, I got a new tv yesterday and I got a Roku player but now my parents have to take my phone away cause I already have a tv, which is why I couldn’t comment at midnight. And I’m honestly fine with MeTV toons having no CN.

@SilverScribe85 It's more embarrassing that the 24/7 Adult Swim channel in Latin America has more variety and it's mostly all original shows, Toonami shows, and even HBO Max exclusive shows airing on the channel with *zero* Fox shows in sight.
Discovery Family has one CN show airing on their channel so PPG & KND should just air there.
Might as well, since they plan on airing Summer Camp Island on July 1st, the first time a CN original has over aired on a third-party network.

I say Mondays-Wednesdays should be the 4 shows a day on Thursdays. The 1 show marathon like it did on Fridays was when it first launched. Friday still Toonami Rewind and Saturdays could be the one day Adult Swim starts at 7 again and air some of shows that aren't on Checkered Past like the original PowerPuff Girls, Codename Kids Next Door, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and the original Teen Titans. Samurai Jack would probably just be on Adult Swims regular time slots instead or maybe even Toonami. I dont mind the Fox shows because I like all that are airing but maybe give an hour to each 7 and 7:30 King of the Hill 8 and 8:30 Bob's Burgers 9 and 9:30 Futurama and 10 all they way until mid night American Dad.

Me and my friend Tony from PS4 actually came up with an idea called "Cartoon Network Plus" back in 2019, which would also merge with the Boomerang streaming app and feature every Cartoon Network original ever made.

Boomerang has it's own subscription service so maybe they can lump the shows not already on there into that (currently it has Juniper Lee, Gym Partner, Lazlo, and KND)

No Checkered past needs to air on only Monday through Thursday for 3 or 4 hours, and toonami rewind needs to air Fridays and Sundays for 3 or 4 hours since regular toonami is on Saturday nights

There's a rumor that FXX may get the broadcast rights to American Dad in 2025.
Family Guy actually aired on ABC affiliate KCRG in Iowa, and The Simpsons aired on KDNL in St. Louis.

Technically, Regular Show premiered in 2009. The pilot aired a year before Chowder and Flapjack ended.

Honestly I'm fine where toonami rewind is but checkered past should get an extra day on Saturday because of toonami rewind also they should add more classic cartoon Network cartoons on checkered past like code name kids next door (sorry if I got the name wrong)

I doubt that Disney will remove King of the Hill, Bob's Burgers, and Futurama from Adult Swim since they make bank from the syndication fees. Not sure who exactly has the rights to American Dad since it became a TBS original in 2014 after being cancelled by FOX.
Why not have boomerang network show past cartoon network shows? Why have checkered past be a block were the whole point of boomerang is to show past CN and HB show, MeTv toons exist makes no sense noww? Or heck keep and show checkered past on both networks.
