Hi everyone! I'm currently a bit sick, which is why my voice sounds a little raspy in this video! Sorry about that! I wanna see what happened with the likely 20+ people that were standing there with bananas AFTER the 20 customers got the game, making their bananas nothing but food. Did they GO APE?
Gorilla suits were either one of three equally possible scenarios. 1: undercover employees working on the promotion. 2: A group of friends who had a dumb-fun idea and just went for it. 3: That particular gorilla costume might just be cheap and easily accessable
To be honest, I was suspecting a ton of people buying bananas where the remaining people that are not the first 20, get mad and start to riot with the bananas they specifically bought being pirme ammo. Guess I've seen too much black Friday in the USA
This reminds me of one evening back in 2010. I was in Burbank walking to the store and there were 2 entire shopping carts full of bananas in the parking lot of a production studio with a sign that said FREE BANANAS PLEASE TAKE THEM. I always wondered what they might have been used for.
I was one of those 20 people! I recall overthinking what constitutes a "bunch" when stood in the Sainsbury's on TCR and being freezing cold queuing up. Can't remember what time I got there but I was definitely towards the end of the 20 as it looked a bit hit and miss for a while. Think it only ended up costing me about 60p.
I was listening to the Kit and Krysta story on their podcast just yesterday - this sounded like a lot less effort for more press coverage to be honest, so well done Nintendo UK PR, I guess! Also, get well soon Thomas!
We should be able to buy all games with bananas! I hadn't heard of this story before, but it was fun to listen to. Also, I was surprised to see how long your hair had grown! It's been a while since I last saw one of your videos, and didn't notice the change lol. Keep it up!
2:52 I immediately recognised that particular GAME store, was my local one for so many years. It's now closed sadly and has been turned into a greggs. Seeing it again did make me smile. I bought my Nintendo switch from there the moment the strictest lockdown ended during mid 2020. Running around the whole city looking for a switch sold out everywhere in store and online, and GAME had one all along, felt like i got the last one in the city. Miss the feeling of walking into that shop so much. Online shopping doesn't compare.
4:27 I may have an explanation! The Great Gorilla Run is a charity event for The Gorilla Organization held annually in the UK (same place as the Donkey Kong game for bananas deal) where runners wear gorilla costumes through a marathon. It started in 2003 while this was in 2010, so it's more than plausible some people thought this would be a perfect opportunity to use an outfit that otherwise would be shoved in a closet until next year. (Shoutout to Half-Asleep Chris for teaching me it exists!)
Didn't get to play DKC: Returns till the 3D port on the 3DS, but I love the games just like all the original DKC games, & I definitely would've partaken in this deal back in the day if I lived in the UK!
I suspect the games were still free. It says show up with the bananas and get the game for free. So that implies you dont' actually hand over the bananas.
This reminds me when a company named silo tried to sell a boombox not with dollars, but with bananas, This went into a mess becausw silo did not think through that concept
Meanwhile, you'll have to pay *_*$60.00*_*_ _*_USD_* (or *_*$80.00*_*_ _*_CAD,_* if you live in Canada) to get the Nintendo Switch version of this video game - which *_barely_* has any graphical enhancements over the Nintendo Wii or Nintendo 3DS versions - when it comes out onto the market in mid-January of next year!
Nice. I would of loved to bring some bananas to buy a DK game. I used to have that DK shirt where he's thinking about bananas. Unfortunately it got wore out because I was constantly wearing it.
0:51 Why not just buy a hollow or styrofoam dome, paint it with different shades of yellow and brown, and then surround it with bananas? Would have been a lot cheaper and had the same effect

Seems like the actions of a Yiga Clan Member hmmmmm
A Yiga clan member would never part with even a single one of their gorgeous, succulent bananas.
Donkey Kong confirmed Yiga devout?
That deal was quite... *_bananas_*
Hahahahaahhahaha…..
Real
The dumb tist.
Edit: ba dum tss. Autocorrect.
Hahaha...
No
You could say this promotion was pretty... crazy. Yeah let's go with that. There's totally not a pun to be made here
Is this the anti-pun
I'd call it insanANA!! That's the only pun to be made here
Crazy? I was crazy once they locked me in a room a rubber room a rubber room with rats and rats make me crazy
@@Noob_LoI they locked me in a banana room, a banana room with bananas, and bananas make me go ape
DK Country Returns is one of my most nostalgic games

That's definitely what would have happened in the US 😅

It was a trap. "Kehehe… Did you really think someone would leave such premier bananas just lying around?

Wow! This part of Donkey Kong history is kinda interesting.

this title is bananas
"Mom, can we get Donkey Kong Country for the Wii?"
"Son, you know money doesn't grow on trees"
"But bananas do!"
Dayum, your hair looks so pretty!^^
That's why they sell Mario games for Coins!

2:49 Reminded me of a character who joined in a reality show about inanimate objects.
price tag from tpot?
This event had quite the a-PEEL.
Such a throwback when you look at the shelves in the background of the photos, good old times with early 2010s :)
i hope everyone had a bunch of fun playing their games
7:35 I jumped out of my chair! Is this the real Cyprien Iov? He's a French youtuber with +14M followers.

2:51 PRICE TAG ASSET FROM TPOT
Ya!
I love these kinds of videos - there so quick and informative. Keep them up!!
Nintendo should make the same with Mario, but ask people to exchange the game for real gold coins.
I wanna buy Persona 3 Reload but exchanging it with a toy gun (cuz, yk, the evoker)
We goin APESHIT CRAZY with this one.
GET WELL SOON :D awesome video! :3
LETS GO THOMAS GAME DOCS POST!!!
And now you can get this game full price again, maybe they’re still making up for those bananas
I bet the food bank ended up tossing most of those bananas.
It’s a shame nobody came dressed in one of those giant banana costumes
I haven’t watched the video yet but Im excited to see how Nintendo might sell a game for bananas.
I’ll report if it’s true when I’m done
So? What do ya say?.
Is it fake then lol
he died
@@whentheyD he's just taking his time
Or Nintendo could use banana money, like Japan in WW2 when they invaded the SEA countries.😅
What a brilliant idea, the marketing firm who came up with that deserves huge props for that.
Wow! This is bananas!
Damn this video is absolutely bananas
Gibben them away? A-peeling?
Im such a sucker for dumb puns that got a laugh out of me
As someone who played these games as a kid, I can say that I really miss these games and hope they make a sequel to Tropical Freeze 🙏🙏🙏
I guess you could say everyone went BANANAS.
This may not be the highest grosing video game as far as dollars, but it definitely is the highest grosing videogame as far as bananas
Even sick, I love your voice and personality. Keep up the great work
That story is absolutely... bananas, mate.
Though a single banana is a very expensive price for a Yiga Clan member, you can have all their rupees, but not one of their bananas
I've never seen Nintendo give Hull the recognition it deserves, LET ALONE the place being mentioned by Thomas himself. I'm so proud to be a citizen
4:52 Guy missed his chance to say "...is bannanas1"
Both I and his father are disappointed in him!
"Shut up and take my bananas!"
DK: *o k a y*
Reminds me of how Sega sold Monkey Ball out to Dole which was pretty genius marketing.
I suspect the games were still free. It says show up with the bananas and get the game for free. So that implies you dont' actually hand over the bananas.
I always.. ALWAYS... get excited for a T.G.D. video!!!!!
This reminds me when a company named silo tried to sell a boombox not with dollars, but with bananas,
This went into a mess becausw silo did not think through that concept
So 60 people got a game by trading bananas. Bro, this is so much better than what Nintendo of America did
Donkey Kong is awesome and I hope they're working on a new game in the series. That UK event sounds incredible. Anyone who was there is very lucky.
4:31 and let me guess... the conspiracy smells like bananas
the guys in the gorilla suit in the line

imagine he released them all at once by accident
2:51 ok, so, he took Price Tag(TPOT)'s asset and used it as an ACTUAL price tag-
I wish the title was “This Nintendo game’s cost was bananas!!!”
I physically could not keep a straight face through any of this
Well this story was just bananas! I guess you could say that’s quite aPEELing!
"Don't give us money" is also Nintendo's philosophy when it comes to legacy games
Donkey Kong Country Returns is my favorite DK game. It’s also the most challenging.
*For this promotion, Nintendo didn't have to worry about **_splitting_** the profits.*
Nintendo: **sell game for bananas**
Community: **S O L D**
Why does the price tags on the thumbnail look familiar to me
Now it's only in the video
Thomas Game Docs uploaded: How Nintendo Sold a Game for a Bunch of Bananas
You cannot ignore me forever, Mario.
Nice. I would of loved to bring some bananas to buy a DK game. I used to have that DK shirt where he's thinking about bananas. Unfortunately it got wore out because I was constantly wearing it.
Usually you sell stuff at banana price, but sell for a bunch of bananas was a first 😂
They should totally bring this back.
Maybe for games like Mario VS. Donkey Kong you could bring a hammer from home depot or something
Gonna be honest, might need to change the title. Nintendo has released a lot of free games.
the title was already changed from something about buying a game for bananas
England and Americas strategy to sell their newest video game was certainly bananas. Australia and New Zealand didn’t follow suit.
They need to bring Donkey Kong Country Returns to the Switch and do the same promotion for it
You grew out your hair that was unexpected
Looks cool tho
Love the hair :)
That was great now I have to find the game thanks for the nostalgia now "I'm going to peel through every place to find it"😅
W video i really appreciate your videos ❤
This video is bananas
I really love videos like this
They sold Donkey Kong Country Returns for Bananas?! 😱 Pun not intended, but that's BANANAS!
I wonder what they did with the bananas… hopefully didn’t accidentally kill anyone with that much potassium.
They went bananas
A bunch of bananas would cost 1.43p to 1.90p where I live.
Now we need to know what happened in other places.
Great video!
0:51 Why not just buy a hollow or styrofoam dome, paint it with different shades of yellow and brown, and then surround it with bananas? Would have been a lot cheaper and had the same effect
BFDI PRICE TAG???
That's what i'm thinking too
Beefy die pricey tagey :0
Bananas are my fave food im drooling at this
OOH AHH EEH OOH AHH EEH OOH OOH EEH! (Those were some good bananas) - Donkey Kong
i find this wholesome for some reason.
We need to change our currency to bananas
I don’t think the bananas that Nintendo bought were very expensive, especially in bulk, and, they may have even gotten them at wholesale price.
tpot price tag asset in the thumbnail
I feel bad for these kids who didn’t make it on time :(
