    John Petrucci was going by a guitar store one time, when he saw a little boy playing guitar and suddenly the boy starts crying. He went there and said to the kid: you never let anyone tell what you cant do my son, you stay focus and you will accomplish great things in life. That kid was none other than Albert Einstein.

    For 1 guy to nail that once in the studio once is awesome.
    For 2 guys to nail the harmonized riff once in the studio is remarkable.
    For 2 guys to pull that off every night on a full tour is nutbusting mindblowingly absurdly phenomenal.
    Im running out of adjectives here.

      For real. This and many other moments of composition just floor me when I'm reminded of how QUICKLY they put the album together. It happened to be the first album of theirs I listened to before I ever saw what they looked like, but promo photos had them looking just about exactly as I imagined them: discovering an affinity for black shirts, black boots, and black hair dye that has only grown stronger to this very day 🤓 hahaha

    I'm astonished of how this man Petrucci won't stop doing anything else but looking at his fingers move. His concentration is unbelievable. For all of you (including myself) this is more than just playing an instrument. This is a lesson not only musicians but everybody should learn from him if you ever wanna become a perfectionist in what/who you are: concentrate, live for the damn moment.

  • @DanielVerberne

    Petrucci playing this unison legato with Jordan is just stunning. I realise he advocates practicing those sorts of parts in small segments, but even then, bringing it all together, live on stage. Stunning technical control, he has.

      +munkeepilot It takes years of practice and a lot of coordination indeed. I play mandolin beside the guitar and I have a pal who plays mandolin as well. And in our college group we sometimes have to play the same stuff at very fast speeds (for a mandolin obviously which would be around 150/160bpm) and in the begining you kinda did see that there was 2 guys playing those same notes but now you can barely notice it. That is the power of training

    You people keep talking crap about Mangini. Mangini is a great drummer. He can play any Portnoy evidently. The one thing that Portnoy has done was backing vocals.
    Portnoy wanted out to go on a hiatus.
    The band seems happier overall. Oh andPetrucci no longer needs a spit shield.

    • @MetalMann-de3xi
      @MetalMann-de3xi 8 років тому +12

      Portnoy had a different personality compared to the rest of the band that has a shy type of personality. People are looking for a clone to replace Portnoy, but it's not going to happen. People are hating Mangini for no good reason. Yes, the band is different, but they are still one of the best bands out there.

    • @pranav9943
      @pranav9943 8 років тому +2

      +Matthew MacWilliams Man look at any of mangini's live performances. He has to bust his balls to play the beats portnoy composed. Pick a song and compare mangini's and portnoy's performances on it. Portnoy made it look easy, looked cool while playing it and gave backing vocals. Mangini can do none of these things. And with portnoy gone the band has lost a great deal of its technicality

    • @motsjo
      @motsjo 8 років тому +5

      +crazyassdrummer Dude, that is simply not true. Now I'm a bigger fan of Portnoy's than Mangini's, but to claim that MP is technically superior to MM is nonsense.

    • @pranav9943
      @pranav9943 8 років тому

      Eivind Nilsen Look mangini has better solos i'll give you that. But that's just because i think he prepares for them while portnoy just improvises. You can always tell by hearing a solo whether its prepared or the drummer is just coming up with it. But look at my last comment. Portnoy composed drums on a song as complicated as the dance of eternity which mangini is yet to do. And just pick a song by them and compare live performances by both of the drummers. Just look who is more easy and more fluent on the drums live.

    Nothing in the annals of modern music comes close to this. Its utterly perfection put to music. The hammering groove at the end is from a position of exaltation. I don't even follow these guys but, I have to give credit where credit is due. Off the chain...
