    Don't apologize for Lane and his playing. He's too cute trying to help. Have a couple of cans of potatoes on hand that you can cube up for your pot pie. I use canned veggies all the time to make soups and other things especially when I don't have fresh. Keep doing what you're doing!

    Please don't ever feel like you have to apologize for your sweet Lane. I think the greatest compliments our children can give us is wanting to be near us and wanting to help. I sure do miss my little helpers in the kitchen. ❤ Thank you for the ideas, I have an excess of milk so potato soup to the rescue!

    our favorite take out replacement, stay with me. I have a super picky family of eaters but everyone loves big mac salad. It tastes just like the burger I Google the dressing dupe and make that then cut up iceberg lettuce, slice tomatoes and onions. chop up jarred pickles and shred cheddar cheese. lastly brown ground beef with some onion and assemble.

    • @homemadesimplewithlori
      @homemadesimplewithlori  Рік тому +1

      Now that sounds amazing. Isn’t it funny that a Big Mac salad can sound yummy because we know what the hamburger tastes like. But if I had never had it I would think all those things would never go together 😂😂😂

    Arby’s roast beef and cheddar? Make your cheese sauce with sharp cheddar because it’s always better! You know the butter and flour roux and milk and add the cheese. I used packaged roast beef but you know if you have your own it’s probably better. I used the onion buns but any bun works. Heat the beef, put on the bottom bun and ladle on some cheese sauce!

    Don’t fret about Lane making noise in the background. If people can’t understand that he’s playing and not bothering you while you film then let them leave.
    Thanks for sharing your inexpensive meal ideas. For a different take on the chicken pot pie try substituting the California blend (carrots, broccoli and cauliflower) for the mixed vegetables sometime. It makes a nice tasting pot pie with just a little different flavor and texture.
    That breakfast casserole would be good for easy packed lunches if you have a microwave oven to reheat it.

    Chicken and dumplings is one of our families favorites too! You can simplify it by adding a little more milk to you dough to make drop biscuits. Cook uncovered 10 min then 10 min covered. I also sometimes add a tsp of dried parsley. We also add carrots. There are so many waysvto make this dish. Also the breakfast casserole you made is one ofthe our favorites. So versatile as you can switch up the type of bread, cheese and meats.

    We like taquatios for a quick dinner, use corn or flour tortillas, add taco seasoned ground beef, chicken or refried beans and a little cheese, n chopped onion, roll them up, spray with a little oil and bake at 400° for 15 or so minutes, or until they are crispy to your liking, serve with lettuce, sour cream& salsa...... yummm or we do these with pizza toppings that we like then roll them up and bake.....

    I used to make pie crusts and freeze them raw/before baking. My father had a huge sweet tooth and, when I was living in town, I would freeze pie crusts/unfrosted cakes/bar cookies to bring them to here where I live now. My father died in 2005..I don't have his sweet tooth but...freezing pie crusts, at the ball stage (wrap tightly and store in freezer bags...one crust per bag) is less stress...Just thaw your dough completely...roll it out and...it's pie crust....,,love your channel and your sweet little boy..

      @@homemadesimplewithlori lol no worries just ‘Poutine’ pronounced poo-teen or Poo-tin … depending on your Canadian accent. It’s French fries with cheese curds (not cottage cheese) drizzled with gravy. I however personally like to use shedded mozzarella instead of the cheese curds.

    My go to quick dinner for 1 is fish sandwich with broccoli and cheese with sweet pototoe fries. All come out of the freezer and i cook it all in the oven at the same time and eat in 15 to 20 mins.
    I made that breakfast casserole last week, i used cottage cheese because it needed to be used and it was awesome.
    I use the red loster busuits on top of my pot pie. Quicker and easier.

Then my broth and chicken, then the dumplings. Sometimes I throw in peas at the last minute, So good . I make those sandwiches with leftover roast beef. Everything looks delicious. Thank you ! 🎄☃️🎄

    My family loves pizza. I like to do homemade yeast crust, but on those nights when I just don't have the time I use sourdough discard to make a quick thin crispy crust. After the crust is baked I just top with sauce, cheese and whatever else we want. It makes for a crowd pleasing fast food type meal at home. Thanks for the ideas.

  • @juliephelps7616
    @juliephelps7616 Рік тому

    A couple of things i have made that are like the chicken pot pie but maybe quicker for me, I use a rotisserie chicken. Take the leftover chicken from the bones, put bones overnight in crockpot to make the broth. I use the premade shelf-stable gnocchi, cook it a little in butter, remove it, add broth snd frozen vegetables in the pan and cook the vegetables until tender. Then I add the cream of chicken soup and bring to a low boil, add the chicken and gnocchi and cook on low for a little while.
    My husband does not like chicken pot pie but will eat this. When i do make chicken or turkey pot pie i make a topping that you pour over the mixture so it is more like a cobbler texture.
    Dumplings were always made with canned biscuits growing up, i have never made them from scratch. Maybe i will give it a go thank you for the inspiration.
    For quick meals I always keep precooked utems in my freezer, bags of chicken, diced ham, sliced ham, pre-cooked meatballs. Cooked ground beef with onions and peppers, and a few packages of sausage like summer sausage as a grab, thaw cook and add to a casserole.
    I enjoy your videos and I adore that your little one wants to help. I prefer real life to picture perfect videos. You keep being you.
    Thank you for sharing.
