Love love love line drying the laundry! Gave my dryer away years ago and don't miss it.
How water heater turned on once a day for two or three hours. 80 gallon tank keeps it hot overnight
Use a smaller refrigerator, works great.
    Meal planning, yep... love it
Use cloth dish rags, very absorbent, not interested in paper towels.
Zero debt. None, no purchase is worth going back into debt
Written budget every month that includes give-save-spend
Nice about a $10 phone plan!!!!
Parks services has lots of options for inexpensive or free entertainment
Gratefulness is key. Nothing like contentment
My food processor cost me $4 twenty years ago at a thrift store. Still works great.
I use a solar oven out back to do a lot of baking and my candle making. Works great.

Not only does hanging laundry save money on hydro, it also helps clothes last longer. In my case, going out to hang out really boosted my mood as well. I struggle with depression & even the few minutes I was out there to hang things helped a ton.

I love hanging my clothes out on the line. (And in the winter I hang them on a rack in front of the wood stove.) Not only does this save money over using the dryer, it helps your clothes last longer. Dryers are very hard on clothing. And no -- you don't need new cookware. I'm using pots and pans I got for wedding gifts 44 years ago and they still work great.

Hi Lori, i have to say that I am very thankful for this helpful video on a better way of living. My husband and I have been married only 6 months and our desire is to live in a godly, frugal and healthy manner making wise decisions and being content in everything. We’re in our early 20’s so we still have a lot to learn and it’s not easy of course especially with online shopping, higher demands and materialism in our society today. I oftentimes get wisdom from elders within our church and people like you that put out these videos faithfully! It really reaffirms my hope to being a homemaker and living out the purpose which The Lord has for us. Grace and peace to you and your family!! 💛

Hello Lori you have lots of great tips i practice lots of them. We never eat out! I dry my clothes outside in the summer but this summer we have had so many days with 85% humidity that it seems like they take forever to dry. I cook 3-4 meals a week for dinner I have started trying to make like a couple of soups a week and a couple of meat meals there is still meat in the soups its just like an accent with more vegetables, beans, pasta. We eat leftovers on the other 3 days if say there is not enough leftovers we do a breakfast for dinner one night. My kids qualify for free lunch and breakfast at school so my rule is you eat at school if there is a day that they don't like the lunch they can pack a lunch but most of the time I expect them to eat free lunch and they usually grab free breakfast just because they have to be out of the house at 7 am. We also make the kids take the schoolbus it saves us a ton in gas. My kids get clothes 3 times a year and we usually buy things on sale or clearance they get some school clothes in august they get a few new things on there birthdays and christmas they get a few things that they want for holidays but they get a few things that are needs in our family its not uncommen to get underwear and socks for your birthday and christmas. My kids get 1 new pair of shoes a year unless they need them for a formal dance and grandma usually takes care of formal wear. I have started making my own cleaners because of allergies. I have had a garden for 7 years I grow as much as I can and pressure can as much as i can from the garden or things that i get a good price on at the farmers market. We hit dollar tree for items like shampoo, deoderant, bubble bath foe my autistic son it makes him happy we also get batteries, birthday cards, wrapping paper, toilet bowl cleaner. We stay out of the stores as much as possible. I meal plan our dinners and weekend meals. I am also making more of our baked goods from scratch. My kids are aware that we are not rich so they don't ask for a bunch of unecessary things. When the kids are at school my husband and I keep all electricity to a minimum if we are hot we turn a fan on instead of the big A/C in winter if we are cold I put on a sweater or an extra shirt and keep the heat off until we realky need it. For my husband and I we have 2 or 3 outfits for going out in otherwise we have around the house clothes may be stained but they are for getting dirty andwe use them until they fall apart. This is some of things we do to save money. Take care and stay safe Lori.

Something me and my husband do is on friday night for supper i will make a take out meal. Instead of going out we make the meal wecwould eat out at home. It goes in the planner every week. That way we still get the treat without takeout cost. We do eat out maybe once a month we have Chinese food because i think this one is harder to make on the cheap we need to many ingredients.
Tks for your input it sure keeps us all encouraged to keep moving on in our frigal lifestyle.

I line-dried clothes at our old house, but our current house doesn’t have a fence, and the neighborhood kids cut straight through. I wouldn’t trust them not to tear my clothes down. 😭😭😭 Learning basic sewing skills is a huge help, especially when you have kids. I can’t even tell you how many stuffed animals I’ve saved with a needle and thread, and sometimes I can even fix a hole or tailor my own clothes to fit better.

I'm not obliged to do so but just like to. I realise it's the company that counts. But I'd suggest when they start looking for snacks - just flippiantly say "oh, I thought you were bringing some"

Use only 1/2 the amount of laundry soap than the bottle says. Same in the dish washer and when cleaning the toilet, pre flush with a 1/2 gallon of water you can use alot less bowl cleaner.

I used to have a residential cleaning business….I made my own deep cleaner for the kitchens and bathrooms. Straight white vinegar (no water!) and a couple Tbs Dawn. For my ladies I also added Lemongrass essential oil (not needed but research shows it can kill many germs, like MRSA, and it smells soooo good!) but even just the straight vinegar and dawn will absolutely cut soap scum and mineral deposits like nobodies business. That area had super hard water……spray on shower walls including the shower glass, let sit a few minutes while I scrubbed the rest of the bath. When you come back and scrub the shower the dirt just slides off. It’s amazing. Worked better than any commercial product……to this day, dawn and white vinegar smells so good to me because it signals “clean”!!!!☺️

Great tips, Lori! Yes, I line-dry most of my clothes (but put towels and sheets in the dryer). Recently, I have been faithfully using a shopping list, meal planning, and "eating down the freezer" (reverse meal planning). Influencers are something our grandparents never had to deal with and yes - your cookware is great! Another tip would be to borrow items for special occasions - I have asked family members to borrow their water dispensers and coolers for an upcoming wedding (saving me from purchasing items and extras that I don't need).

I recently purchased a new upright freezer which is easier to manage. I have a large plastic bin labeled left overs. So I put all bagged and labeled leftovers in there and can find them easily. I also have another bin labeled weekly meals. I meal plan and shop and then label in zip lock bags the individual meat items for the week. Then they are in that bin so I can just grab them easily. Now everything is very organized and things don’t go to waste like they did in my chest freezer.

Sometimes folks will say " oh 2 cups of Chicken is not enough protein for 5 people." However, if they take into consideration the fact that Cheese or Beans are added to the meal then there is enough protein per person. Also, we are not supposed to get all of proteins, carbs, veggies in just one meal but throughout the day to ensure good health. I like your idea of one protein making several meals. I cooked up a package of 14 sausages and made 4 soups using those plus other ingredients. 2-3 servings each and I froze them as I cook only for myself.

Yes! I used 4 normal sized breasts to make fried chx salads for my family of 11 tonight. I pounded them thin, cut them into bite sized chunks and also cooked some bacon to add to it. Between the chicken, bacon, hard boiled eggs, and whole milk cheese there was a good amount of protein. I didn’t have much of any one source, but we piled our salads high and everyone was full. Shredding the meat really helps to feel like you’ve gotten a good portion as well.

I’m much more likely to fix dinner at home if I have the meat portion already cooked. I have dozens of options for using the meat depending on what I have in the pantry or fridge.

I have an array of recipes from scratch. Simple but tasteful cooking with minimal ingredients that you always keep on hand is actually the best tasting foods.we grow a garden every year and we increase in what we grow and out garden size each yr. We also hunt. We can, dehydrate and freeze our harvest. We shop only for staples we use regularly but get them at their cheapest prices. If we eat out, which is minimal, we use coupons or meal deals. I clean with vinegar and baking soda. We use cloth napkins, infact just found 8ct pack if very good quality for 99 cents per 8 ct pk, I got 4 pks and they was in fall colors which is perfect for me. I prefer to shop sales, clearances, thrift stores, yard/garage sales and such. Very few things I will only purchase new, but not at full price. I keep pantry and freezers stocked, we do eat them down each yr and restock before winter (eat oldest before newer). Taught myself to sew, garden, and preserve foods.
We are relocating 12 hrs away next yr. We are currently in the process of selling off as much unneeded stuff as possible. Doung this cuts the cost of having to move so much, also by selling it this will help pay down more off our current debt , and helps us get to a more minimal lifestyle that I prefer ( was married 4 yrs ago and combined 2 very full houses into one). Also by relocating, it cuts the cost of us traveling to see family 2-3 tines a yr qhich cost us about $1000-$2000 each time we travel to see my kids and grand babies (so happy to be moving back home near them). I would love to get back to line drying clothes, which has not been possible whete we currently live. We just xhanged cell phone plans to a cheaper service and no contracts. We are fixing to get rid of our land line to save a bit more. We are currently getting our house ready to put up for sale. After saling it, the plan is to pay reast of debt off and purchase a much smaller home for much less (currently ha e large 5 br 2 bath home that has livingroom and den, sewing room, huge laundry room) since it is just me and my husband and soon my mom.
Plus we currently live in Maryland where cost of living a high and moving to Tennessee where cost if living is nuch lower.

Thank you for mentioning infouencers. I have stoppped seeing some fashion influencers so that I do not desire the elevated look I like but do not need. I remember when we were kids on a good week we got on a Friday Kentucky Fried Chicken or pizza. Drive thru was not a thing. Unloading unnecessary self imposed pressure will help guard our mental wellness too.

The best money saving tip for us is not buying sodas, lots of snacking items, and disposable items. Ofcourse if I can find something for cheaper than me making it homemade we get it but that's extremely rare. We've also saved so much money on gifts that way. I made some monster cookies and now that's the request for people for Christmas rather than "gifts"

Thank you so much for this video! So many of these things we do as a family, but we can always improve. In this age of big spending and feeling like we have to keep up I feel so much better knowing we are not alone. Homeschooling has helped cut our spending as well. It cost much less to invest in a quality curriculum and teach it at home than it does to send our children to school. There are so many things that cost money in the public school system. I didn't even realize it until we decided to homeschool our younger children. Thanks again and have a great day!

I live in an apartment and don't have a washer and dryer except the one downstairs for the entire building. Every load costs 2.00 to wash and 1.75 to dry. I researched handwashing and have a very large bucket and dedicated 🪠 plunger. After a year of hand wringing out clothes with my old hands, I purchased a Ninja clothes spinner. I believe that spinner has already paid for itself! My clothes get more clean then they did in that inefficient community washer, they are generally dry after 2 hours of air drying, and I am saving money in the process. (Water charges are included in my rent)

    • @homemadesimplewithlori

Buy major appilances used or new also get a home warranty mine was are $19 a mth or learn how to fix them yourself, most appilances built recently are plug and play. Be conscious of your actions moment to moment. My money saving journey started w learning how to change a showerhead and hanging towels to dry instead of grabbing a new one. Utilities charge the most when they are in continuous use over many hours. Most of all save from you now to reward yourself later. From planning for car breakdowns, vet bills to having cash on hand during retirement..starts with spare change or $1-2 dollars and builds up enough to sail through life's😊 tragedies and events..

@@homemadesimplewithlori dish soap sold in stores is expensive for me. My kids have allergies. So I buy chemicals for soap making from the market and make my own. Bar soap doesn't wash oily matter from my dishes well. Oh I do sell a bit to recover the costs incurred in making. I make 80ltrs and sell 40 of those. I used to make a lot of it for sell but then I got sick really sick and just had no energy to make the soap anymore. So I only sell to 2-3 clients and that's it. Go to Southern States n get 1 ton of OATS for $357 grind it then grind again at finer cut. Makes 66000 big sevings or 164 years breakfasts. Your oats will b just as good as any you buy in store. After storing what u want share. Plan your meals around your oats with sides of potatoes, some meat greens etc. By doing this youll never go hungry n save crap load of money. NEVER GET THE OATS WITH BLUE ADDITIVE AS ITS FOR HORSES GOOD FOR HORSES BUT WILL KILL HUMANS.

If it’s in the budget, may I suggest an allowance? Hear me out before you think I’m being condescending. I used to watch every nickel and dime like a hawk when we had to and every expense outside of the plan would really upset me, now that we have a little more wiggle room both hubs and I get our gas money and a little extra for eating out, for me that looks like $20/wk to grab snacks or drinks while I’m out running around and for hubs that’s about one meal out of the office/wk. We’ve both agreed on this amount and I never feel upset that he’s spent his allowance or that I don’t have money to do anything.
