The way I screamed when the second formalwear was Don's Sims 2 outfit with the iconic striped shirt. And that shirt also being used as sleepwear for Dina? Love it.
Before I saw that I couldn't even remember how he looked in Sims 2, so it unlocked a deeply buried memory in my mind when I saw him wearing that 😂

Also there is a serious trend in the Sims where the lore isn't backed by anything, like the romantic relationship between Don and Katrina, or when in neighborhood stories a sim says they had a great date with someone, but actually never met them. That bothers me the most.

I’m way more excited about the Jewish food rather than the refresh. I wished they’d actually update likes + dislikes, lore and relationships, and skills for these sims. Might as well do it myself

im always glad to get more cultural food but they REALLY need to do something about the menu, like adding a vegetarian-safe checkbox, separating the desserts/pastries, sorting based on how much hunger they fill etc

yeah a sorting feature is needed BAD. They've added so much food as well as sim dietary needs.
Omg I never thought about that but this would be sooooo useful! I admit I have a hard time with my vegetarian Sims because I forget and then they end up sad and/or sick to the stomach 😔 but I just like the idea of more organization in general like I really appreciated the newer organization of the socials because it makes the game play easier.
I would love it if they gave veggie sims a brain. I send mine to "get leftovers" and she goes straight for the steak, then complains that her food was tainted

For some reason, I feel like the Sims Teams gave them grey skin tones again like Bella. Whyyyy wheres the warmth?

Almost all the skin tones under the “cool” category and lots of the “neutral” category just look grey or sickly. I’m glad they added so many more skin tone options but I virtually never use any but the “warm” ones.
Cool undertones doesn’t mean they should look like zombies.

I think Dina and Don were definite wins, Nina was alright but they should’ve changed her hair, and Katrina was unfortunately a downgrade, as I think she lost a little of the glam that she had before (except for her formal outfit). Her face also looked a little uncanny to me.

Not being able to yell "KATRINA!" every time he sees her since she looks so different. May as well as be a different person they changed her bone structure and lips so much. Like her mouth is lower and larger now. Looks like it got inflated and then stomped on.
Her new face does make her look more like the girls mother than their older sister, which is what the family's old look gave

i agree, at first i wasnt happy since my sims always married don but i just wasnt used to him looking different but seeing them both made me realise the new one is far better. also dina is decent, her clothes arent the best but thats probably because basegame clothes just arent good but i think she looks great and tbh im probably gonna make all my guy sims marry her now lmao
I think dina had the best makover and Katrina had the worst in my opinion. Don is fine he wears the same outfit twice just different swatch and nina was just ok.

I really don't know how I feel about this makeover. I like the outifts but something about their faces seems... off? It's giving me the Uncanny Valley effect. The shadows maybe? Also, I like than Don Lothario looks more adulty.
Yeah it’s really drastically different from their first TS4 faces, I mean, Katrina has a completely different jaw/face shape. Maybe it’s that sudden difference that’s so jarring. Don and Dina’s refreshes are great though, I think
I totally agree! Just a bit uncanny...I feel this way about most Sims townies...it's like the EA team doesn't quite know how to best use their own face sliders to make the characters look unique while still human.
@@biancamo10 yeah they’re always really long or short, or like their eyes are insanely wide. The premade faces category Incas in the most unsettling example of this.
I think the cooking menu itself could benefit from an update, maybe having items in their own separate categories (savory, sweet, etc or breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, etc) just so it's not having to load every single item of food's description at once because yeah the lagging on the cooking menu is so bad.
Yes! Maybe have it separated by 'meal types', like breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc since they have those already, such as when you have a Sim 'make breakfast' it only pulls up certain things.
Or food type, like cakes (which should be baking but Sims gonna Sims and that not base game so I get it), soups, sandwiches, etc.
They really should make baking skill base game and move all the cake/cookie/pastry recipes to it.
I just want to be able to sort things by if I have all the ingredients or not 😅 Like especially when I'm playing with Simple Living turned on. I don't want to have to scroll past a bunch of recipes I don't have ingredients for to find what I CAN make.

@@lutilda That's one of the things that just needs added in general. Like when you're crafting anything, have a checkbox to only show what I have the stuff for. It should at least be an option, so I can more easily make stuff or choose to see what else I need for other stuff. Like, oh hey I can bake this but why not this *clicks option* oh I'm missing this certain fruit, that's why.
To be honest I'd prefer if they fixed hot & cold weather outfits and the relationships without completely changing their looks cause at this point they're just iconic
true, other than whitewashed sims from previous games, all i’m seeing from this makeover is that we need new basegame clothes and hairs

@@oscarkamala the caliente family are Italian and I hate to break it to you but ethnically and racially they’re white. I’m half Irish half Italian and they did the girl’s dirty. The sims team have no middle ground the either max out or minimise the facial features to were it looks strange. Also the makeup is horrendous and too dark it give them a shadow rather than compliment their faces. Having a hissy fit with everyone who thinks it’s a strange look is ridiculous. It’s a game chill out

I really wanna see the BFF household get a makeover to look like their Mysims selves.
Used to play Mysims Kingdom all the time and the school island that had them and their love triangle is just stuck in my head.
I'm also a little sad they seemed to just stop making Mysims characters in 4 after Get Together with Candy and Yuki.
I always thought the BFFs looked okay tbh, like they could definitely pass for older versions of their MySims counterparts. Candy and Yuki, however?? _Disgustang._ Unrecognizable. Try again.

They've improved the textures so much. The matzo ball soup has more 3D balls in it than the Toddler Stuff ball pit.
They really need to bring back the Gold Digger aspiration. It was one of my favorite aspirations, not to mention it was Dina’s lifetime wish lol.

I wish they would update the old hairstyles. Especially Dina's hair desperately needs one and I think an updated version would look amazing. You can't really use the old hairstyles nowadays because they just look off next to the new ones.

I had to look them up to be sure I knew what they are. They seem to be a kind of hash brown or at least within that family of chop/grate potato, mix with binding ingredient (if you're not a masochist - trying to cook them without is.... well its not easy). In which case they fall firmly into the category of "eat them for any course/meal you want". Like how yorkshire puddings here are often eaten with a roast meal - commonly roast beef or lamb, and lashings of gravy. But they're made from the same batter as you would make pancakes here (flour, egg, milk, pinch of salt is the basic ingredients list) so that means that the can very easily work with sweet stuff too. So many times we had them as main, and then had leftovers as dessert with maple syrup. So I think I'd not eat them directly one after the other, but both sour cream (with chives and cheese in would make it even better) and apple sauce sound good.
Now I'm hungry.
Imagine if EA adds Kayla as an official Sim to Sims, I think she deserves a tribute after dedicating 7 years to the franchise

These townie makeovers make me hope that the sims team will continue updating past content! The spa day update was so successful, and people seem to like these townie changes, so it would be great to see more fixes and adjustments for older packs!
@estrogen_fiend96 I've only ever been able to get it work right with Carl's mod. It really tunes it. Also it has this added bonus that you can shift click on the ground on any lot and override the NAPs in Eco Lifestyle if they are interfering with gameplay.
@estrogen_fiend96 I hope they fix that one day for all of you. I used to have The Sims 2 on PS 2 way back in the day. It was intolerable so I eventually got a PC to play it.
This is a clear improvement, but they're still not great. Lets be honest the makeup is still awful. And it's ridiculous that this took over a year and they didn't adjust their relationships at all ?
The Sims 4 really needs to add a search function to the cooking menu so you can search for specific recipes... And to bookcases and stores too. Finding what you want can be quite a task!

He does look better. But he was also known as probably the best dad in the game for townies. Very attentive to his kids. Of course that doesn't match his vibe and lore at all, but it is what it is, and I wonder if that changed now.

As a tried and true sims 2 girlie, this update wasn’t enough for my beloved calientes😔 like yes this is an upgrade but still not even close to the power ts2 had
At least they look somewhat better. Not perfect but anything is better then what they were. Katrina had it the worst though.
As a huge CAS person, I REALLY like Dina and Don’s new versions the most. They look SO much like themselves in the other Sims games imo.

I can’t believe they didn’t even put in custom relationships or sentiments. The sims community is literally built on small details. We use it in builds cas everything. The game has been out for so long it’s ridiculous it’s taken them a decade to fix their awful and rushed renditions of the townies which are sub par at best. I’m gonna miss katrinas iconic red hair.
I'm not even Jewish and I love matzo ball soup. I make it in the winter, chicken soup with matzo balls. Yum. Put some dill in the mix, it's great. Love this update.

Yeah I think the new update /really/ helps distinguish between mum and daughters. They all looked the same age before.
I’m sad they changed Don’s athletic outfit. Personally I felt that it was kinda iconic. Something about that silly hat and the sunglasses was a vibe that I liked a lot.

Exactly what I was thinking :( I’d rather the “hot” update was a bunch of hot fixes, fixing game breaking bugs :( I honestly don’t really care for the townies. But to each their own I guess :(
Especially not almost a decade later. Like some of the sims are so iconic and it’s just kinda weird at this point to change them.
Plus, most people will just overhaul townies the majority of the time themselves, anyway. Which means all this work to “improve” is wasted.
Lag, glitches and other improvements are way more important!

Like I don’t play with townies (I delete them all or make my own but if I like enough to be attached to them I’ll just make them over myself) but even I miss the iconic belle goth and now she looks weird like almost wrong. I’d rather they fix all the glitches in the game or stop making kits that nobody wants and start making stuff packs again if if their dead set on “refreshing” things so to speak why don’t they start refreshing packs again? After spa day they said they would refresh more packs but they never did. I’d love to see her to work and island living refreshed because after werewolves the occults from those packs are seriously lacking not that they weren’t already lacking before but werewolves are definitely the best occult so far then it’s vampires so we know they can make good occults so it would be awesome if they went pack and did that!
I really do believe they can work on multiple things at once. The Sims 4 has over 9000 employees. Whatever u wish they were working on, I don’t believe it’s not happening because the townie updates takes a year to change the appearance and likes of one sim family. I won’t be surprised if it was a team of 2-3 people working on it and being slowed down by needing constant approval from higher ups.
Maybe It's just me, but I like their older versions better, especially the faces 😅.

I honestly would prefer to have something in the game options to be able to choose if i want to play with the occult (alien, vampire, mermaid, etc) in the game.
That's the bigest reason i didn't buy vampires,werewolves and Realm of Magic expansion.

I’m disappointed they haven’t been adding more sentiments, relationships and story with these updates. I want that the most so it makes me want to play with the townies families on their own. Rn in the sims 4 it feels like there is no reason to.
Like the goths should be rivals with the landgraabs still, Nina and Dina should have other crushes in the world. There should be tension between the girls in the Caliente household ETC

I'm kind of sad about the change bc I only got to know the Caliente family in sims 4 and it feels like they turned into completely different people. One of my favorite playthroughs was with this family. Wish they would have gotten at least their personalities right the first time.

Yes!!! I thought of knishes and latkes immediately! Especially since I'm assuming Jewish or not, (I am btw lol) people have heard of potato pancakes and potato being in everything lmao. THAT would make the holiday pack sing for chanukah! But I'm stoked for the challah and matzah ball soup. They look beautiful and appetizing, and they included a challah cover, which is also beautiful.

I think the salad is a poor choice for comparison because I believe it got an update a while ago along with some other base game foods to make it look better. The new food still looks even better, but the base game salad used to look a lot worse!
Nothing makes me happier than seeing my culture's food finally in the game for everyone to enjoy! Ive been having to find loopholes to have my sims celebrate Shabbos before this drop. Hope yall are popping off as hard as I am for the Matzo ball soup and challah !
I'm so excited about the new foods! This is the type of thing that I never really thought would actually be included, and it makes me so happy to see. Now my sims can have Shabbos dinner!
I'm also so impressed by the descriptions - they not only got their facts, but they used the Hebrew words for things like Pesach and bubbe and zayde.
ngl as the biggest Dina Caliente stan there is these makeovers are all at the VERY LEAST a solid 11/10. I also love the fact that that Katrina has more body fat as most of if not all of the women in game are like "instagram model skinny" (nothing wrong with that) but its nice to see that the sims team is willing to do that, tbh if I had one negative thing I would say I would like the fact that they are Arabic (its never stated where but I think its meant to be the sim equivalent of Egypt) and Spanish (I believe like Spain in Europe but idk) as its never really brought up but they are biracial in the original sims 2 game. Tbh the sims 4 does leave out some lore stuff (nothing really like shocking like idk I cant even think of something ground-breaking but just the tiny details like the Caliente sisters being half arabic/half spanish, or the fact that geoffrey took his wife's last name, and small details like that are nice to me personally as they help kind of flesh out the world/story) anyways this was kind of a big long rant for me just basically saying that the new designs are really really good
I absolutely love that they now look more like the ethnicity they are supposed to be!
