The best channel on youtube! Great band...please do the official Evenflow video if you have the time. The energy of that performance will knock your socks off.
"When Vedder was a teenager, his mother told him that his father was actually his stepfather, and that his biological father was dead. The first and last verses detail those actual events, but the second verse is storytelling on Vedder's part."
Release played at Wrigley in 2016 is a great example of how Eddies voice has matured. Plus the love from the crowd makes it extra special. Thank you for reacting to, and enjoying, my favorite band ❤
Wikipedia says "Vedder met his biological father briefly as a child, but was led to believe that Severson was merely an old friend of his parents. By the time Vedder learned the truth, Severson had died of multiple sclerosis." I think that Eddie incorporated a lot of his story in several of his songs. I love Pearl Jam and have been a fan from the beginning. I saw them live in Albuquerque NM in 1993 and in Calgary in 2005. They are one of my all time fav bands ever! Thanks Saeed!!
Thanks for taking the time to share this. I just recorded a reaction to Even Flow and wow! This band is something else. Video is blocked at the moment, but definitely will check out more in the future.
There is a very good video on UA-cam! Eddie explains the meaning of this song (actually the song was a curse) and how this meaning changed over time and why. Just a few minutes long, but so great to see!
I heard you say curse he used to not want to play this song live because he thought it was a curse because of people were screaming and they didn't know the meaning of the song but the audience changed the meaning for Eddie
It’s so weird to see young 20-something Ed and then think about the fact that he’s turning 60 next month! He almost doesn’t seem like the same person, but he’s a family man now with a daughter in high school and a daughter in college. Long live Ed Ved!
I have seen them perform it live in video (and attending their concert) and this version is stellar. Eddie's voice is just like on the record and the band is on point. Amazing. And yes, the story in the song is partially based on Eddie Vedder's own life experience and discovering about his natural father way later in life, after he had passed away. The second verse is fictional.
It seems Eddie’s “thing” was climbing up whatever he could find. I’ve seen several clips of live shows and he’s always doing this. Next should be Evenflow, live, Moore Theater in Seattle. Their home town
Great reaction! About the expression "I'm still alive" you're right, it has a sarcastic tone. Eddie explained years later that the fact of the crowds singing it along in a joyous, positive way changed it, and "lifted the curse". There is a video where he explains it, it's very moving. Congrats, you're the best!
I always love your reactions. I don’t know how familiar you are with Pearl Jam but if you don’t know Yellow Ledbetter you should do yourself a favor and check it out. It’s one of their best songs with the best guitar solo. Excellent vibes.
@ Eddie Vedder is such a good guy. He does a lot of charity work for kids for music programs. I saw I story a couple years ago about him being in Hawaii and going into the guitar shop and learned there was a music program for young kids from low income families and they used a lot of old broken down equipment. So he bought new equipment and originally did it anonymously but the kids and music teacher were all so thrilled and touched that they wrote letters and made cards and they asked if they could do a song for the person who donated. So he ended up coming forward and went to hear them put on a little show for him. He’s a sweet man
Eddie wrote lyrics that describe a somewhat fictionalized account of the time when he was told that the man he thought was his father was not actually his biological parent.
The climbing & jumping stuff stopped quite early on (1995?). I did hear that he installed a fireman’s pole in his house so he could get to the basement (where his home studio is) quickly, whenever he had a musical idea.
PEARL JAM ARE INCREDIBLE STILL IN 2024 ON TOUR IN NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA RIGHT NOW. SUGGESTION: "EVEN FLOW" ORGINAL MUSIC VIDEO TOTALLY AWESOME!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR PEARL JAM REACTIONS! BEST LIVE BAND EVER, IN MY OPINION! CHECK OUT 1992 PINKPOP LIVE CONCERT, ONE OF MY FAVORITES!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS AWESOME VIDEO! SORRY FOR ALL CAPS I CAN'T SEE VERY WELL SO I APOLOGIZE. 😊💓🔥🤘✌️
If you want to see Eddie really get crazy, watch Pearl jam perform Porch at the Pink Pop Festival in 1992 in Holland. It's known as the mother of all stage dives. ua-cam.com/video/7_eDMjv0HwU/v-deo.html
"Once" continues the story of the same individual in this one, when he goes mad and kills. One of my fave PJ songs, and the opener of the debut. David Abbruzzese is the drummer here and I have to say they were not quite the same after he was fired.
Nice Reaction! You're from Belgium? You may want to react to a band from there from Soul Sister that made the charts here in America. It's called "The Way To Her Heart." Great Tune! 😁
Saeed, you should write a book about your experiences! It would be fascinating. The hero's story could be your story. It might not even need a lot of embellishment. 🙂
It is crazy that his voice is just as good, if not better, than the studio versions when he sings live.
Eddie Vedder was famous for climbing and jumping. It's a wonder he's still alive.
The best channel on youtube! Great band...please do the official Evenflow video if you have the time. The energy of that performance will knock your socks off.
Thanks so much!
Will add that one to my list. Such a great band!

Looking forward to get to know them and their music better. This song is amazing!

I think you’d really appreciate the song “Better Man”. Great reaction

Great to hear he has a beautiful family now. Awesome!
@@SaeedReacts. He never stopped singing, touring, recording. He now has adoring fans of several generations
Yes, it’s very sweet. They travel to as many shows as they can when they aren’t in school.

What a song and epic performance! Awesome you saw them live.
Thanks for sharing some info on the story in the song.

My favorite Pearl Jam song love you
Amazing song! Much love!
🔥🔥🔥 .. total fire .. ,🔥🔥🔥
Certainly one of their more famous songs 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Looking forward to your Jeremy deep dive
Eddie wrote lyrics that describe a somewhat fictionalized account of the time when he was told that the man he thought was his father was not actually his biological parent.
Used to have this in my walkman all the time in my teens. One side Vs, the other Ten. Now it's Aurora :) :)
Awesome memories!
The Evenflow live is a must see. Also this song Alive was about his mother informing him about his parentage 😊
They are still performing together NOW. THEY had another number one hit off their latest album this year.
The climbing & jumping stuff stopped quite early on (1995?). I did hear that he installed a fireman’s pole in his house so he could get to the basement (where his home studio is) quickly, whenever he had a musical idea.

Australia had the count down show as well. It went off the air in 1987 .
That's when i came in the air :D
@SaeedReacts. you haven't been canceled yet , so that's good.😀
Unusual video choice! I love it! 🖤
Looking forward to your Jeremy reaction. It's blocked, so I guess it's the uncensored music video..
Still no Jeremy reaction... 🫤
C'mon UA-cam!
This song is based on what happened to Eddie; he wrote the words.
The MTV Unplugged acoustic version of Alive is worth checking too!

Definitely added this one to my list! The mother of all stage dives 😮😮
@@SaeedReacts. The whole Pink Pop show (45 mins) is worth a viewing if you get some spare time. Intense performance throughout.
You should watch "Porch" pinkpop 1992, to see him climbing on posts and crowd surfing. It's crazy.

🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
You are a reaction beast.
❤
I see you got introduced to Monkey Vedder. 😆
😄😄😄 Wild boy!
The Grunge adventure continues
100%
Need more grunge!!! Alice n chains, nirvana, Stp, Pumpkins, Soundgarden

Thanks and i am. I know that song, it's actually one of my wife's favorites. :)
I think you'd like Nothingman!!

Another great reaction to a Pearl Jam classic! Here's hoping your "Jeremy" reaction gets unblocked.
