You should do a video of local legend vs. Allie in park run
Spence is faster dont worrie
Are you trying to break up one of the best YT couples? 😢 Don't race your partner, keep the peace. If it's a card game though, always win, and make sure to rub it in her face.
Allie is a elite champion headed for olympics .Nuff Said
She's too busy with Olympic prospect training
Tough to say at Spencer's current fitness but a few more weeks/month of training and Local Lenged easily beats Allie.
legend has it if you whisper "Spence, Spence, Spence" in the mirror at 3am he will come mog you at your local 5k
No one’s safe, just cos he’s the local legend doesn’t mean he isn’t mr worldwide
Do you think he'll fly out to the uk if I say it 100 times in the mirror
0:28 Allie trying to go Super Saiyan
Glad to see you still doing these Park Runs even after the 'powers that be' have reminded us that they are not 'races' and stripped out records of fastest times, age group records, age graded league times, fasted course times, etc. Keep is going Spence!
Going hard at altitude when not acclimated is awful. I got the chance to do the Depletion Mile in Silverton after Hardrock last year and completely imploded at about 500m. The rest was a tortured morass of dizziness and nausea. Pacing over Oscar's Pass the day before was fine, but when I crossed the intensity line in the mile it was all suffering and no coming back. You looked good in the 5k Spencer!
Love the community vibe in the local legend series 🎉
They will encourage you to get your shots and if you disagree the community will ostracize you. Then one of them will get a bilateral pulmonary embolism but not admit it to anyone in fear.
I can’t even express how mad I am that I missed this parkrun literally two blocks from my house because I was in New York. I would have cheered you on! Sam is a legend! You should totally run the BolderBOULDER! Come out Tuesday night and do the dash and dine and you’ll get into the A wave. It’s a super hard course but fun race! If you ever need a bathroom or a cup of coffee, I’m right near the parkrun location so hit me up! Happy training to both of you and Georgie!
I'm visiting Boulder from the UK this summer and will be running the parkrun - great to see video of the course.
Good running, and people don't know what you are dealing with altitude, unless they have traveled from sea level, and then go out for a run a mile high. I had flown to Leadville, and climbed Mt. Elbert, made it up 14,468 feet or whatever altitude the summit was, and did a fair amount of running on that climb. The next day, despite having acclimatized, I went out for a 2 mile run at 10,000 feet, and was about a 1:15 slower per mile and was out of oxygen after 1.5 miles.
Great job to run the pace that you did!
Should get the 11 year olds parents contacts or something. THAT KID IS GOING TO BE A RECORD BREAKER
love the local leg series!!! Congrats at altitude and win! Regional Legend?
Local legend series has been some of your best work yet. Hope you guys enjoy Boulder!
Nice run! I studied abroad in Cusco at 11,152 feet, and I didn't even try to run for about a week lol. Those first few days were like plodding through molasses; it was so brutal. It probably took me two months before I felt like I could do a workout anywhere near my ability at sea level.
Great to see you progressing so much with running and youtube keep the work man almost at 100k
Great video and lovin the Parkrun series. Gabe was amazing and Sam is incredible
My prediction with no spoilers is 15:40
Edit: 16:31 is pretty good for being at high altitude. And besides, we aren't always going to pr every single time, so just enjoy the process while you can. You got this though, sub 15 5k!
You should do the Bolder Boulder. It’s around June 1st.
You crack me up. I love your content!
You take us to some pretty cool running spots around the country! Thank you to the local legend
The legend grows.
You should do another series called Regional Legend where u travel the country to different park runs
Local legend!
You should come watch the Bolder Boulder 10k!!! I’d love to see ya there.
Just being There is a high and a win! Have fun, work/play hard~
Great run given altitude and not being acclimated. The positive vibes from allie was the winner of the day.
looked like fun!!! And a pretty good run!!!
Great video! Well done!!
"local ledge here". That's how I'm gonna introduce myself to people from now on.
Definitely do the Bolder Boulder since you are there. It's one of the greatest races around. Hey, how's that interview with Frank Shorter shaping up?
The first time I was ever able to break 20 in the 5k was when I was 12 and only a month til turning 13. This kid is way ahead of the game to run that time as an 11 year old. I know 1 year doesn’t sound like a lot but when I was 11 I was struggling to run a sub 6:30 min mile so kudos to him for running that crazy fast time
I lived in Boulder for nine years, now living outside Durango at 7,500’ and ride and XC ski much higher. Boulder is low altitude for some of us.
We need that sub 14 project let’s get fit man you can do this bro!!! I’m just livin like so what!!!!!!
If you like parkrun you must tour the U.K. and run a few here. Some events get over 1000 runners every week.
BolderBoulder is iconic, stoked for Monday
I've lived my 82 years at 6000ft altitude in Johannesburg. Had to go down to sea level, like Capetown, to run PRs like 9 mins on my half-marathon. Altitude rocks!
You should definitely do Bolder Boulder. Even if you don't race it, just for the vibes
If you want the true Boulder experience, do the Bolder Boulder.
If you're in Boulder on Memorial Day you've got to run the BOLDER Boulder. It's a wave start so you'll be running against other elite athletes. You'll want to get in the earliest wave possible. Hopefully the A wave, but it might be filled.
That's near mile 8 of my 12 mile tempo loop! I start and finish on morehead.
Absolutely should do Bolder Boulder
As a Denver runner I can 100% relate to everything said in this video
Even at that altitude, you nailed it! =D
love this weekly 5k thing
It's crazy that guy has run 5k every day since lockdown w/o skipping a day? If true he's run 7630km or 4741mi over 1526 consecutive days. The mileage isn't really that big, but not taking any days off over 4yrs is nuts.
I was there last september. It's beautiful.
Dude next year you should totally run the Denver Colfax marathon!!
Dude ran my fastest mile for the first one
You and Allie should try to get on the coffee club podcast while you're in boulder.
Try to beat my Strava king of the hill segment at Waterton canyon. It leads right up to Colorado trail.
"Local ledge here" 😂
5k is the bargain basement race now. It’s the fun run I’m winning 5ks at age 59. Was running 15’s 35 years ago Would be winning by minutes at most races now
OG peeps remember the Gucci Socks
A 20 minutes 5k at 11? That kid definitely has talent!
Do you know what the course record is there?
What shape you in for 5k at sea level..?.about what secs should i add to my 5k at sea level
You probably need to get that 11 year olds information
Great couple ❤
Come to lakewood lool
Look forward to see you Park Run against my compatriot, Nick Bester who just posted he went under 15 min.
Poppin on this one
Is it fair to say that Boulder is the de facto Mecca for runners?
Is Flagstaff in the conversation?
Flagstaff has maybe become the Triathlon Mecca, or just Arizona in general. I'd say Kona (Hawaii), but no one trains there, only races.
I think NAU and a lot of colleges have cross country camps in Flagstaff.
Would Iten fit into the conversation?
We want the TAS Merch back 😮💨
Local Legend not above crushing an 11 year old. NICE!
you need to make a local legend singlet
11 y/o running my freshman pr
Ι was the UNKNOWN from the list. Congratulations for the 1st position
First, also your just the local legend man 👏👏👏🤷♂️🤷♂️
Big Ups
I must correct you Spence nobody is above parkrun
Can you believe that Spencer Is younger than Allie ?
Why does Allie keep calling the Local Legend "Spence"
The 11 year old is the same speed as me and I’m 14 with a 5:31 mile and 2 years of distance training
So six days is not enough to acclimate? Jeez. How many days does it usually take?
This series has really surprised me. There are actually so few parkruns in the USA compared to Australia!
In Australia we have nearly 500 Parkruns. In my home town of Perth (city of about 2.1million) we have at least 20 alone. I have 5 parkruns within a 20mins drive. I didn't realise how lucky I am!!!
PS Loving this series!
what abut eugene
Hi TheAthleteSpecial If your training for the 5K how many hard weeks do you do before backing off and having an easy week and what would a easy week week like?
You actually think he will reply ?
I did not know your girlfriend is Allie Ostrander!
Not first but maybe second
idc
Good try!
hehe :)
Day 1,000 trying to convince you to do the Goggins challenge.
900th like 😮💨😮💨
Is she your sis or girl?
she’s his girlfriend
Yes
sister + girlfriend + daughter + wife
Parkrun isn’t a race and there’s no “competitors it’s just a run everyone can enjoy on a Saturday that’s how us in uk see it
I agree with you. My experience has been same as yours at every parkrun I’ve been to in lots of different countries. This content smacks of elitism and doesn’t encourage parkrun inclusivity, IMO.
Meat is murder
Only 60-70 people.....that's mental. WTF?
Im gonna bet you wont be able to break top 20 at boulder boulder championship. That is a really tough race with elite pro runners and none of this park joggers for competition. If you really want to prove your a legend you need to win a major race. I was able to get top 20 in several major races when I was your age. This should be your goal to win a major road race
Omg you are so great wow
I think it's "local legend," not pro elite legend haha. So I don't expect him to win some major race. I'd rather just see him in costumes destroying these local races. He is the local legend!
@@MilanSmore Not saying I was a legend for sure but at least I was running against the best at the time. Ran 3rd in a 10 k behind Frank shorter and paul cummings . Was a good local runner but I didnt make videos of myself thats for sure
@@esotericpig Doesnt make since to do that a sub 4 minute miler against a soccer mom a 11 year old and a 70 year old guy that started running post covid. Spencer has great talent but lacks drive to do something with it
@krakhour2 yes but in the 70's and 80's the camera equipment was not easy to take along. And would you snail mail VHS tapes to the masses? Did you run boulder boulder?
