This sounds like a lot of fun, getting stuck into local races is an easy way to a good time imo. We're getting into weekday evening race season here in the UK now, I'm looking forward to blasting round local trails and roads regularly and just seeing what I've got in me on the day.
Wow, The Athlete Special, Seattle Legend has a nice ring to it. Well done out there. Please check back through previous Bunny and Bubbles race history to let me know if you hold the Meet Record.
Hey Spence, I need to run a 17:00 at Perrigo Parkrun (Redmond) next Saturday (April 13th). Would LOVE to have you come out and introduce you to our local parkrun! 🤙
Very educative for such a little fun video. Crazy to think you were like 3 and a half minutes quicker a few months ago but at the same time crazy youre still running sub 18 after months of nothing :D
I was in the same position as you, I was in the shape of my life, running 19:21 a year before, did winter and spring track and got some really good prs, and then over the summer I got burnt out and injured and suddenly I went from nearly breaking 19 to barely breaking 22:30 (22:28). I'm now back in sub 19:30 5k shape as well as better mile and 2 mile shape than I was last year but it took a lot of work and patience to get there, you will get past where you were before, I know you can do it, just keep going at it and don't worry about how long it takes, worry about keeping yourself healthy and not hurting your self in the process. (Aside from the times where you ACTUALLY need to hurt like in workouts and races XD)
@@epiconan270 Don't run too fast on your easy days, and don't worry about running tons of miles a week either, build up the pace and the milage slowly and gradually when you get more and more fit. Take at least 1 or even 2 rest days if needed and stretch and (if you have one) foam roll. Also for your workouts, make sure to do at least a 1 mile warm up or so as well as a 1 mile or so cool down after. As well as eating healthier and get good sleep.
Im a ninth grade distance runner just coming back from an injury too, a growth plate stress fracture. On the 16th i have my first track meet where I will run a 3200 and maybe a mile, hopefully i can get 10:25 and 4:59 😬
i once took off about 6-7 years and came back and finished 2nd in a local 5k.. i was 3-4 minutes off my normal times, i ended up running mid 19s (lost by 2 seconds).. i was like WTH i suck now. i was able to get back under 17 teh following year but not under 16s ever again; but then again I was in my 40s At that time.
Next race should be a road 10k with a bit of training. How close can you get to Allie's amazing 34-minute cross championship result. You'd be on the road, so it should be easier. 😅
Hows the injury post race? You went out HARD, think you'll do the next one the same? Or maybe try the conservative approach to start, just to see what happens? Id be curious how the negative split theory would feel for you.
Has it been 10 weeks off already? That's crazy, hope you get back into shape and stay healthy. I bet running this made you feel like a normie and think, "Why did I ever think this was fun?"
That's crazy i watched you run 23 minute 5 mile less than a year ago. Really fell off since the injury. Hope you get back to running 14.30 . Which is what I thought you could run. My best mile was 4.20 and I ran 15.48 5k. Just strange even with the 10 weeks off. Hope you can get it together. You had a ton of potential. Must just be the injury.
This comment sounds really dumb… he was injured for 10 weeks and your confused why he’s not able to run 5 miles in 23 minutes anymore? Use common sense
been running since the 80s have run in several national championships and had numerous injuries. Has records in high school in half mile. Have come back after being in hospital and ran a 1.16 half marathon only a few minutes off my best @@lol-gb5vt

Hey man, even though you’re not nearly as fast as you once were, you’re working your way back up! A dude named Isaac updike is like 32 or sm and just set a new mile PB of 3:55! You can back there, you got time, you will become that local legend 🫡
Can't believe Ingebrigtsen dodged this race.
He's scared of me
I genuinely LOLed at this comment! You owe me a new keyboard & monitor that isn't covered in coffee-spit.
Best comment.
Jakob has been having bad luck with Brooks athletes so he’s trying to focus on one at a time

If a local race cost more than $50 to register it ain't worth supporting that sh!t. e.g. $50*52 week = $2600!

Time for Spencer vs Allie 5k. Or 3k steeplechase would be entertaining.
she would kill him :)
Would be sick spencer
Glad you’re back Spencer. Running 17:47 with 10 weeks of no training is impressive, particularly on a course that didn’t look very fast.
Well, you just beat my lifetime PR off no training, so nice job!

Bubbles and Bunny 5k sounds like a legendary race.
You should definitely do a video about your injury what’s exactly it is and how you overcome it
Glad seeing you happy running again keep it up!
Feeling mildly entertained thanks 😄👍
Yeahhhhhhhhh!!!!! Nice Spence!!!!!!!!!!!! So glad you're back!
Let's go! The local legend series begins
Congrats for recovery 🎉
Hey bro impressive times! Especially for distance.
Good luck on whatever you get after next 🤘🏼👟cheers.

The man’s back
But glad to see you’re not injured anymore

This is an Oscar-worthy production! :) Great race coming off the bench too--17:47 is a solid time for many runners.
“Did some weird glute activation stuff” 😂😂😂
You're back!!!!!!!!!
I knew that Spencer had some plans with his post injury videos ;)
It takes some serious guts to race a 5k off no training! Excited to see where your fitness goes from here.

Is that discovery park. ? It is beautiful and great job!!!!!
I know the Paul in the video 😊 he is a very solid runner especially in ultra distance 😄
Nice video! Still better than my 5k time 😅
Man’s really seeing if he can race into shape
You should run a 5k with Georgie! I did a half marathon with my 13 year old dog, it was really fun 😊
This could be so epic that Pre comes back from the dead.
nice race
how would you advise with nutrition before a race?
We needed to see the bunny station 🐰 … looks like you have to come back next year and defend your title!

Dang Paul's in this video too!
Have you considered becoming a college assistant coach? I bet some places would love to have you!
you should go for some strava segments

I wish I knew you were doing that race but that probably wouldn’t be in ur favor

You went out HARD, think you'll do the next one the same? Or maybe try the conservative approach to start, just to see what happens? Id be curious how the negative split theory would feel for you.
Not only have you not really been running, but it’s obvious that you put on a bit of muscle, so running quick for 5k is not easy.
Imagine u go to a local bunny 5k feeling good and have to go up against a guy who ran at Georgetown. 😭 Can’t have nothin nice.
Great effort of course, but a risky idea just back from injury, no?
Love the new content #LocalLegand
Isn't it too much stress on the body to do a race every week?
LET'S GOOOO
Well it's not no training to be fair . It cross training without running
15:50 before watching
How did you get 17:47 from splits of 5:31-5:47 and 5:47? "cause that equals 17:05.
Three miles is equal to around 4.8 Kilometres. You need to add 200 metres to round up to 5K
That works for 3 miles. The .1 miles is not in your calculation. You were definitely paying attention to the video.
Sweet Jesus! You were always so under raced. I remember back in the younger days we used to race ourselves into shape all the time.
My guess is yes, if you're faster than everyone else. And it's not like your years of training have vanished. If they had, you'd be slow like me.
Why am i watching distance runners im a sprinter 😭
