    Was at the Gorge first week of August for a week Don. Tried a little jigging for pups and Kokes. I don't have a spot lock setup so I have a hard time staying over the fish. One day I will invest in better stuff. I tried trolling with dodger and different colors of squids and spinners. It was a tough week for me didn't boat a single fish. Had 1 koke up to boat and lost it. But weather was awesome and Flaming Gorge is a beautiful place. So it was still a great week of camping and fun with my family. Fished mostly pipe line area and in state line bay area. Keep up the great videos Don I have learned a lot from watching you.

      Thanks for the report. We have been out of town for most of last month, so any report I’d a good one. I am m sorry you did not catch a lot of fish but do not worry about staying on top is schools. This year, most of us, even with spot lock have struggled to stay on the schools. I pick up my boat after some overdue repairs on Monday, so I will be back on the water later next week. I can’t wait.

    Like #45 and new subs! Absolutely great advice about plan on one strategy for the day! Were you stationary (spot lock) when you were jigging? I have not jigged for koke, but after this video, I will have to give it a try. 🙏🙏🙏

      While jigging I have spot lock on. However, I slowly move around in an area looking for fresh schools.

    Are you using the hummingbird electronics?

    • @doafish
      @doafish  Рік тому

      No. I have a Humminbird on my boat but I use a Garmin LiveScope plus and a Lowrance Live unit for my Kokanee jigging.

    Why do you use gulp maggots instead of Shoepeg corn? Do the maggots work better?

    • @doafish
      @doafish  Рік тому +1

      I actually use anything that works. I have corn in several colors in my boat as well as three colors of Berkley Maggots. shoepeg corn works great BUT, it has a tendency to not stay on the hooks as well as the maggots. You will see in some of my videos that I will keep jigging even after a bite while using maggots because the fish generally will not strip the treble hooks clean on just one bite. With corn, however, I always bring the line up after even a "tick" on the line to ensure I have good corn still on the hooks. I hope that helps.

    Would you use this same pattern this last june weekend?

    • @doafish
      @doafish  Рік тому +1

      Yes, there have been no changes. White, pink, of course chartreuse have all been solid. The challenge is finding the schools and staying on them until they bite. It takes me (alone) about four hours the boat my four-fish limit. So, as I said on the video, patience is a virtue.

    It seams you mostly fish north of Manila. When do you move down by sheep creek?

    • @doafish
      @doafish  Рік тому

      I actually fish Sheep Creek frequently from ice off through September 9th. However, if I am jigging for kokes, I like Sheep Creek from June on.

    Love these videos! Will these jigs and your usual tipped tubes still work for rainbow and other fish toward the end of July? I can’t wait to get up there! Keep the good content coming!

    • @doafish
      @doafish  Рік тому +1

      Yes, these methods work for the kokanee and for rainbows all the up the September 9th for the kokanees and through to ice over for the rainbows and pup lake trout. The only differences are that at times, pink and white and even orange will work better on the kokanee and green tubes tipped with night crawlers will work better some days on the rainbows and pups. Just remember that most of these fish like rocky points or the backs or mouths of coves. Then, just keep being patient and don't get discouraged if one point doesn't produce. Just keep moving and trying the next one and the next one until you find a pile of fish. Good Luck! I will be in Yellowstone for the next two weeks off the grid, so if you need more, I will be back around the middle of the month.

    Don,
    Thanks for sharing.
    Do you put any scent on your lure or maggots?

    • @doafish
      @doafish  Рік тому +1

      I only use Berkley maggots for my Kokanee spoons. If I drop small tube jigs to pups, I will tip them with a small piece of night crawler. That is the only scents I use.

    Holy chirst, your intro is so loud! Do you use any other color beside chartreuse?

    • @doafish
      @doafish  Рік тому

      Yes, I use pink, white, orange, and purple.

    What's the limit of Kokanee right now?

    • @doafish
      @doafish  Рік тому

      It is still 4 kokanee or any combination of rainbows, cutthroat or brown trout to equal 4. The lake trout limit is 12 fish with only one of those fish over 25 inches.
