I have committed to self tapping daily. I wrote ‘Happy’, ‘Angry’, and ‘Sad’ on a piece of paper. Then I take 3 monologues, making one tape of each monologue, looking at each word and saying the lines with that emotion. One taping of each monologue with the 3 emotions.
I went to an audition for an agency recently and completely blanked on my monologue, but I don’t think it was that noticeable, I got back into it. I got the agent but still that was pretty nerve racking. Hopefully these tips will help me in the future, thank you for them!
Had an audition last week. Knew the entire commercial. Froze when it was my turn. Yet remembered everything later when it was too late. Hope this video helps me with tomorrow's audition. Thank you.
I personaaly approche that like "I gonna show what I do", it's like 'tell me if you want work with me after, I do my best cause I've decided'. Self-knoledge, calme, pragmatique, serious, self-questionnement and a big part of love himself.
I try to look at auditioning the same way as a interview for a job. My whole mindset is: If you don't hire me, it's your loss, not mine. If i have to, I will go get a job with somebody else. As a result I am very seldom nervous and not intimidated. But great video as usual Kurt!👍
In the background you have a Meisner book on your shelf. I have that book and have read it so many times, love it. I was first introduced to that book when I was taking acting classes that taught the Meisner technique.
What do you do when all you have are sides? Does your agent tell you this? Casting director? I've cast a few short films, and really sides don't tell you a lot in what they are looking for. Casting folks want to help you do the best audition, but without more information, how's an actor supposed to know what they are looking for?
I give you tip for before audition watch, some funny video for smile and comfortable, face because casting directors only like happy and comfortable actors
I was well prepared until I walked in and the receptionist hit me with "cold read sides" I sweated my nerves through my arm pits yesterday and at the end of my audition... the director asked me was I nervous? (Embarrassing exiting moment) That's all I thought about on my drive home 😯🚘🚦. Thanks Kurt👍
How to get rid of audition nerves Confidence comes from betr preparation n repetitions Do script analysis characters objectives motivation understand relationships Do mock audition dng in front of ppl n record myself putting urself under same pressure
Confidence comes from regular practise n experience..more repeation Script analysis relationshp of character n their motives not just memorizing lines The more work u put into preparing helps u build confidence Repeat the process Mock the audition script get someone as CD n record it everyday will help me get rid of audition nervous Don't think abt ull book ur role or not..it's out of control..even though u have talented
Thank you for those tips! When I was nervous on stage for example, I'd super cold & when I samg, my voice would start to shake and that annoyed me So something super simple was just to always have an extra jacket with me that looks okay with my outfit haha That's just a tip for people who also start to freeze (I have no idea why I do though)
I bombed a monologue almost two years ago and it really put a damper on my acting aspirations. Now, two years later, I'm junping back into it. Goes to show when the acting bug bites, it doesn't let go. Thanks for these videos, Kurt!
The best thing to do when you fall off a horse is to get back on the horse! Name a single person who hasn't failed at something. The more you do something, the better. My first 'big' acting role I was as nervous as hell, but I got through it!
Great tips. I went into an audition not expecting to get the role. Was just doing it for practice. I had no nerves which really helped my acting & audition. When I care "too much" about booking it gets me in my actors head and the performance isn't as believable or fun. I think doing your best is important, but not if you get to the point where you worry about the performance.
i loved your video on making a professional acting resume. will you please do one on when you should create a professional imdb account? and how to? also, any information regarding sag membership and joining, pros/cons, weighing out the costs, when you should join... would be greatly appreciated!!! thank you soo much for your great content! it has proven to be extremely helpful for someone just beginning acting (extra gigs, commercials..) like myself lol hope to see you on set one day soon! 💕✨
I went to a audition at my school and i was a junior or sophomore and one of the freshman went before me and sang like an angel as well as acted the scene PERFECT and i left and cried because i was to scared and felt horrible at acting and singing period so i left instead of even trying and now i regret it everyday
I practised so hard for this agency audition. I had to say a commercial line in camera. I was 30 MINUTES late so everyone had finished. I was the last one. And stuttered so badly. Everyone watched me and I just melted.

Wow simple and helped a lot. One thing I think about like Jack Hughman is to treat it as you would with a friend or colleague with respect and not so loosey goosey but have fun. As always thanks.
Fun fact, my mum was best friends with Hugh Jackman for around 14 years when they were kids until he moved to America. Also, love your video and advice man
From what I could figure out my biggest issue growing up was being confident because I was always prepared. And from this space I could sense that ppl watching or evaluating me either misinterpreted my preparedness as cocky and/or arrogant and sought confirmation that I was not as good at whatever that particular thing was which really started to bother me as time passed. So I see my task as learning to handle the insecure energies around me and try to strive to be me without proving to someone I’m not as good at something as they want to perceive me to be for their own confirmation purposes which is not fair to ppl who choose to work hard.
Thank you! This have such great value. What helps me is to see it more as an two sided process. Not just the casting director needs to like your audition but you have to feel good with them too. One question about parctising the auditions: Often one just get one scene, so if we go e.g. to the website to get a script of the film, would you just "randomly" pick one scene? Or how do you do it?
If you are just practicing, then you can absolutely pick any scene you want. If you want to be more specific, you can search for a scene with a character that suits you well.
You don't ever want to force an expression. Your focus should be on realistic and genuine reactions. Whatever expression comes from that is always going to be better than anything forced.
I completely blew my monologue due to nerves for my last audition, but I asked if I could restart it and I did. I think I did great that time but it was ruined by my initial performance. Kinda sucks! At least my song went pretty well.

There's no perfect age to start. Some people start at 5 years old and others start after 50. If you are 21, that is definitely not too late of an age to start. I didn't start until I was 26.
Good tips! Would you mind if I asked where you took your audition class? Also, I know personally I hate hearing and seeing myself on camera and voice recording. As you can see in the video, I also wear glasses and I've been a working actor for 12 years.

I broke my hand this evening on someone's face. No I am not worried about it. In the industry we're all just messed up people who try to be pretty on camera. 😐
Turn to Jesus before it's too late. He died on the cross for you to set you free of your sins! So start reading the Bible and get into the word of God! He loves you so much! There are gonna be no excuses on judgement day so start spreading the word of God! Thank you, God bless you!
Fear and Humiliation! You are being judged!
BTW, Bryan Cranston says an actor's job is to audition.
