The best way to build confidence is to do things you're not sure you can do. The best way to get over shyness is to become an actor - just do it. Feel the fear and do it anyway. Soon enough you'll be the one answering peoples questions about how to overcome shyness. I guarantee it. You can't even answer that question unless you've BEEN the shy one who overcame it. Don't make excuses, take a class. The difference between winners and losers is that winners will find a solution to every problem and losers will find a problem with every solution. If you REALLY want something, you'll find a way. If you don't really want it - you'll find an excuse. Kurt just gave you the solution - don't be a loser. Take a class. BTW, Playhouse West in Los Angeles only costs $225 per month. PW is one of the best schools in Los Angeles (started by Jeff Goldblum) If you can't afford THAT - you're just making excuses. A job at McDonalds pays $3,482 per month. Stop making excuses.

Hey Kurt! Great Video. Also, I saw you in one of the Atlanta Film Festival conferences :-) So quite a few commercials and industrials ask for in perpetuity usage. Have you experienced this? If so, how did (or would) you negotiate this so companies don't have lifetime usage of... well you? Thanks again!
Hello Kurt, I've been wanting to be an actress all of my life. But due to me having little money, no support system, and personal setbacks, I have next to nothing to show for it. I do have some training and a student film to my credit while majoring in Theatre Arts in Jr. College in the past. But the other projects I try to be a part of in the past didn't work out for one reason or another. With that being said I'm in my 40's I want to move to LA to pursue this, but I feel embarrassed, naked, and unprepared. Despite the fact that I'm in the process of going out for auditions locally. Should I go to LA and continue to pursue this or should I quit while I'm behind and over 40?
I would never tell anyone to quit. I started later than most people (at the age of 26) and I know many people that started after 30, 40, and even 50. Here's a video I did on the topic: ua-cam.com/video/XZ5MlLQCQrs/v-deo.html Also, LA is one option as far as a location to pursue acting, but by no means is it the only option. Make sure to research other major acting markets like Atlanta, before making a final decision on where to move.
Hey Kurt, what does A.T.L. stand for? Also, please tell us about your coffee mug logo. You always display these prominently, however, I have yet to see where you explain the importance of what they represent. Thanks in advance!
An actor demo reel is an edited video collection of an actor's best performances (typically between 30 seconds and 3 minutes long). It's similar to an artist's portfolio. If you were a sketch artist, you would have a folder with some examples of your best work to show to people. An actor's demo reel is a collection of an actor's best work to show to people. Talent agents, managers, casting directors, and potential employers view demo reels when searching for new acting talent.
Hello, Kurt I need help to start realizing my dreams, which is acting. I currently live in York, Pennsylvania, and I don't have the slightest idea of where I can go or where to start. I stayed to start by taking acting classes, but here in York. I have no idea where. I am 25 years old and I have no experience in the world of acting just like you when you started.
Thank you so much Kurt! I really appreciate everything that you're sharing here. I've been brainstorming in creating my own short films, how would I put these in my resume, if I'm doing them by myself? I was thinking about posting them in UA-cam, would this be considered credit that I can add to imdb?
Hey Kurt, thank you so much for your videos. They are so helpful and I absolutely love them. Question, how do you suggest we find behind the camera jobs? How do we get to helping the casting director or being a PA on set?
Hey Kurt I’ve been watching your videos for some time now. And I’m not sure if you answered in your personal opinion what site would be better actors access or all casting? I know I have to pay to join I just want to make the right choice
Hey Kurt, maybe this is an unusual question, but do you think that modelling experience (runway, editorials, commercials, campaigns, shooting...) can somehow help you in the acting world ? As a model I don't have to be actually acting but still I can't be fully myself either. I see many similarities in these two carrier (there are producers, brands, CDs, auditions, audience and cameras too) and I'm thinking about making the transition to acting, when I'll have enough money for classes of course... So I'd love to know what info YOU can give me about this. Also since we're here I want to ask you what possibilities do foreigners have to start an acting carrer in the U.S. I know many say to start your acting carrer where you already are, but even if you do so, how can one get in the U.S. legally to pursuit their dream job as an actor ? I've been looking up a way on how to get in the U.S. and stay as an actor but everytime it looks like I've found a way then another issue pops up and it's really frustrating. If you know better about this subject please make a video: a more international concerned like vid would be PERFECT and super appreciated. It was a long message but it's very important to me and I'll wait for your reply. You're great keep up the good work !
The way your modeling experience would probably help is that you are probably less nervous on stage or in front of bright lights and a camera. And like you said, you're used to dealing with producers, directors, crew members, etc. As for international actors, I really don't have much experience with that and I don't know much about the immigration process at all so I can't really speak on that topic unfortunately.
Hey Kurt, I have some experience in theatre from when I was younger (I'm 17 now), I've participated in a few plays at school and also outside of school. I also sang live on the radio in Dubai (where I live) because I was invited and participated in different talent competitions, mostly singing. When I was about 10 years old I wrote an entire script with my cousin for a movie we wanted to make. We did, we filmed the movie starring my cousins, other family members, and me. It's a 25-minute movie and it's in Spanish. Do you think any of these things could help me in acting? And also, how could I add these to my resume (if any apply)?
Any experience that you've gained can help you in your career. There are no rules to what can and can't help you. As for your resume, the plays and film can definitely go on your resume. Your signing can go under special skills
I started submitting for acting jobs before I ever took a class and was able to get cast but I don't recommend it. Now when I look back I wish I had taken acting classes first. I know many actors that have been in school for YEARS and still haven't signed up on any casting sites because they're afraid that their talent isn't yet up to par - not quite good enough yet. And I think that's actually the right attitude to have. If you start out doing bad work, you'll probably continue getting cast in bad; low budget productions - because that's what you've already established yourself as. I quit acting for a while just to go to school (after getting cast in my first supporting role in a feature film and seeing with my own eyes how much I suck as an actor - I was horrified). I've been in training now for two years and that's all I want to do until I finish the program. My best friend on the other hand is just so obsessed with fame that he doesn't care about classes or improving himself - he thinks he's going to get "lucky" one day and get "discovered" without ever having to work for it - now all he ever does is music videos. Don't get type cast as the guy that ONLY does music videos because then you'll be stuck doing that for the rest of your life. My best friend gets SO proud every time he's cast in another music video and I keep telling him he needs to back off from doing music videos but he won't listen - he's just happy to get booked but he's not thinking about having longevity in his acting career. He just wants instant gratification - "make me famous... right now" and that's career suicide for an actor. Take your time - do it right.
I’m always worried to use casting websites because a lot of them look really dodgy to me plus I live in a village with nothing in it. I think my nearest city which actually have jobs in them is like 40 minutes away and that’s Birmingham, so maybe no.

I also just started high school and I'm taking a theater program, my first day with that class is tomorrow and It is my first time taking a class that actually teaches me things about acting and I am kind of nervous for it, so I don't know if it was the right decision to take the class.
Watch "Theaters Best Kept Secret" - it's available on UA-cam.
it also makes me extremely nervous but for a different reason. are you still worried now?
@@shimmerajakazoid8472i actually really enjoyed taking the class, and i definitely still felt nervous at times but i think for the most part i had a lot of fun and i am still very interested in acting. I start my second year in high school soon and i decided that i wanted to take the second part of the course! Thank you for asking.
Been waiting for this one 😎
Gonna tell everyone one day about Kurt and how he helped me change my life as an artist.
Do you have any advice for young actors who’s parents don’t approve of them acting, need your help
Hey ,uuuh im a youg guy who just want to be an actor too , and I already said my to my family that I wanna be an actor and my parents approved that, but my uncle, aunt, grandparents they said "get a real job who's gives to you money" and I said "no , because if a follow some job that I don't like it most likely I will get fired because that's is not what I want to my life " so my advice is, say to your parents that this is what do you really want for your life , and try to instace what I said to my family

Hi, when you book a movie or tv show, can you practice your sides with a friend from school or coworker from work for example, without getting in trouble for sharing the plot of spoilers? Or do you only get them when you get to set. Thank you! Love your videos🥰
You can practice them with someone you trust. Someone who will not go and post spoilers all over the internet :)
Thanks! Awesome Kurt! A big nice! Hearty Hello! To Tofu!🙋🤗💖🐕

Hey Kurt!
Great Video. Also, I saw you in one of the Atlanta Film Festival conferences :-)
So quite a few commercials and industrials ask for in perpetuity usage. Have you experienced this? If so, how did (or would) you negotiate this so companies don't have lifetime usage of... well you? Thanks again!
You can't really negotiate out of those usage terms. I simply decline any of those auditions.
Kurt you are the man 😊👍✌️
if you need to skip to the point 3:45
As a new actress, looking to start in anything. How would I provide a resume if I have yet to perform on anything?
Do you think speech and debate would be good experience? I’ve won or placed highly in several LD and PF district tournaments.
Here's a video I did on the topic: ua-cam.com/video/XZ5MlLQCQrs/v-deo.html
Also, LA is one option as far as a location to pursue acting, but by no means is it the only option. Make sure to research other major acting markets like Atlanta, before making a final decision on where to move.
Nice
Mr Kurt , can you make a video about character development
That's more of a screenwriting question - this is an acting channel.
Hey Kurt, what does A.T.L. stand for? Also, please tell us about your coffee mug logo. You always display these prominently, however, I have yet to see where you explain the importance of what they represent. Thanks in advance!
It stands for Atlanta which is where he lives. It's the airport code for Atlanta. If you ever fly into ATL look at the ticket on your luggage.
Hey Kurt! I love ur vids they are so helpful. Hoping to be an actor one day! Can u tell me what a demo reel is because I dont actually know?
An actor demo reel is an edited video collection of an actor's best performances (typically between 30 seconds and 3 minutes long). It's similar to an artist's portfolio. If you were a sketch artist, you would have a folder with some examples of your best work to show to people. An actor's demo reel is a collection of an actor's best work to show to people. Talent agents, managers, casting directors, and potential employers view demo reels when searching for new acting talent.
@@ActingCareerCenter okay, thank you very much
Hello, Kurt I need help to start realizing my dreams, which is acting.
Yes, you can (and should) add it to IMDb when you create your own short films. The other actors you cast will appreciate it as well!
@@ActingCareerCenter Thank you Kurt!
Hey Kurt, thank you so much for your videos. They are so helpful and I absolutely love them. Question, how do you suggest we find behind the camera jobs? How do we get to helping the casting director or being a PA on set?
I think just networking with other people in the industry. Find facebook groups for filmmakers in your area and get started
Hey Kurt I’ve been watching your videos for some time now. And I’m not sure if you answered in your personal opinion what site would be better actors access or all casting? I know I have to pay to join I just want to make the right choice
What's a demo reel? Is that the video showing your clips at the start of your video? Is it just to showcase different roles you have done?
@@ActingCareerCenter Thank you so much!
how long should i take acting classes for before auditioning for anything?
It's going to be different for everyone. Everybody learns at a different pace. Your acting teacher will be able to tell you when you are ready
Tysm!
