Goddmmit man, I'm watching this with tears flowing freely... it's amazing how, even though I've never met Michael, I feel as if I lost a dear friend. Reside In Paradise, Eyedea, we all love and miss you.
Im a MPLS boy and I got to meet Mikey several times but the last time was his final performance @ Soundset when I bought one of his custom made poem books and he autographed my VIP pass. He died like 4 or 5 days later. I wish I could have said something more inspirational to him. My book is never going to be sold on Ebay like a lot of them have been, I'll treasure it the rest of my life. RIP Mikey!
@@OracleTheRonin lol wow..7 freaking years! Trying to stay healthy physically and mentally in the midst of these crazy fucking times. I still have my book and autographed VIP pass from Mike, have them framed along with the ticket from the last Soundset he ever performed at. Funny you responded since Soundset always took place on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend but this will be the 2nd year in a row it wont take place because of covid. This all took place at Soundset 2010 so 11 years ago today...which also makes October the 11th anniversary of his death,I said 4 or 5 days in my original post because just based on my memory it seemed like he died so soon after but it was actually a few months later. Crazy man..
@@BrendanSlob that’s awesome bro apart from soundset not happening. I only recently got into eyedeas music. For some reason I had never listened to him before?! He is now on my top 3 hip hop artists alongside DOOM and Aesop rock. I wish I had known about him earlier but it’s exciting to have a new artist to listen to religiously.
@@OracleTheRonin One of my best friends was going to the same college as Mike's mom here in Minneapolis and had a poetry class with her. She had Mike's group "Carbon Carousel" come in and perform for the class. Check out his Oliver Hart solo album,it's dope as fuck.
I'm a St Paul boy about 12 years older than than Michael Larson and had been a huge Atmosphere fan for many years but I am ashamed to say that I never heard Eyedea and Abilities music till the morning he was found dead I saw the story early a.m. and St Paul caught my eye. After reading the sad news I immediately came here and started listening and fell in love I know most here who appreciate him in the same way. I would have loved to have sat by the river some night and smoked a joint together
I remember when I went to this, I didn't know how to feel. I was having a great time, but at the same time mourning the loss of one of the greatest lyricists that I've ever seen. A night for contradiction, thats for sure.
I was mighty blessed to be a part of all that. Me & my girl broke down (again) when the curtain went down & "Here for You" started playing... It was an emotional time, up & down. Mike's spirit will forever be thick...

I heard about Eyedeas passing just a dew weeks ago, and I'm still in shock. I never got to see him perform, but got some of his music, and I gotta say I'm a big fan. All the best to his friends and family. R.I.P. Eyedea.
would of loved to be there to pay my respects to eyedea , but coming from england i could not but my heart was there R.I.P . eyedea , i play smile every morning when i wake up to think of you , much respect we will never forget you in england
R.I.P. Eyedea. I've been listening to "First Born" before I go to bed for about 2 years. He was much more than just a rapper or MC; he was an inspiration, A beautiful artist, a philosopher, & a life-changing hero to many. Atleast we know he's in a better place now & at one with the universe. You will be missed my friend. -Spend Dna
I must express myself as truely as I can, I grew up with Mikey, and what lead him down the rightous path of bring his dreams to a reality,I always knew what ever he did,he gave his all and did not stop at giving up,that was'nt a option as years went by he always had a passion for music and he did what he wanted that was being a one of kind music artist, but to me,his story still ain't been told.all do respect,Daniel A Morales.PEACE...
Great, sending some love from my hood to yours. Never knew him, hadn't even heard of the record co or groups before now, and hearing the music, reading the lyrics (on various sites) all of you that worked with Michael were on the same team as I. Why does society keep us DIVIDED until we die? To stop the revolution. Rock on bro, and fam, either way you slice it, I'll see you shortly. RIP
makes me cry. he was such a beautiful individual. he inspired so many to be the best they could be and to think outside of our shells. he changed my life forever and i miss him so much. rest in peace mikey.
I put this CLASSIC song on repeat for TWO days when I heard that Mikey died. Hey Man when I was in Iraq I keep thinking how awsome it would be if I actually had the chance to meet him. Your a major inspiration from on of you FAVORITE FANS PEACE
Thank you 4 this. I have been listening to his music everyday since he died. I'd known him for his freestyles for a while then I was watching them for 3 days loads which is how I found he died in the comments. I can't describe how good his music was (you know what I mean). I get sad thinking about it but I just think of Eyedea smiling and it's all good. I am buying a t-shirt he wore saying "I freestyle life" and discovered a song he is in called "Best Friends" (happy eyedea :)) RIP from England.
I legit cried watching this.. What would rhymesayers be if it wasn't for eyedea, he was even tehre for the headshot days!! R I P my friend thank you for being here for me through ya music big homie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I cried. I cried so much watching this video. How the fuck can the world lose such an amazing person at such a young age? I listened to his Oliver Hart album every single day multiple times for the entire summer. It blew my mind that somebody create hip hop music on that kind of level. It completely changed my perspective of what music could be. His last album was one of the most emotionally intense albums I have ever listened to and I was so looking forward to the next one. :(
RIP...miss you loads...even though I never met you, I know you're a very good person. This isn't a goodbye, but a see you later. RIP Michael "Eyedea" Larsen.

I wish I had the opportunity to speak with him just once. He clearly saw the world differently to the average person and I'd love to have gained some more insight into his mentality. Of course, he was only human and so like anyone he was not perfect. But I honestly think he had moments where it seemed he was enlightened (from what I've seen and heard, which is a small fraction of who he was). Much love eye wherever you are, from "an intricate piece of infinity" to another.
As much sh!t that gets talked in our form of art and as much hate that is portrayed through not only mainstream but underground hip hop aswell,Its always horrible and shocking when a fellow Artist loses his life,we all need to stop for a minute and pay respects to that Artist and that Artists family and close friends. My thoughts and deepest, most sincere condolences go out to Eyedea's Mom,to abilities, his friends and the whole ryhmesayers camp,"Weakness is a magnet, stay strong"--Saint Heretic
Here For You should be the national anthem for humanity, such a beautiful, moving and inspirational song.
Eyedea changed my life!
Literally the greatest lyricist of all time. I mean out of everybody, from everywhere, from everywhen.
I Mos definately concur 💚
The Dive and Here For You, really changed my life. I dont no where i would be if i never found Eyedea. I still think about him every day.
