Congratulations! I'm the same way. I have so much trouble taking a break. I only do when my husband insists honestly. I'm a wife, a mother, I have a full time job and I write. Sometimes I do okay balancing it all and other times I all but quit sleeping. When that happens for a couple of weeks and my husband can see that I'm not taking care of myself he usually steps in. He even went to my boss last year and told her I needed a couple of days off but that I wouldn't ask for them. She texted me and said enjoy your days off the rest of the week!
Thank you! Yeah it's tough, and I give up sleep too which is NOT good for us lol, so here's to us getting a little better at balance haha!

And your video had so much wisdom in it. I can relate to it so much. I really wanted to submit to this specific book contest, but I had to realistic because I wouldn't finish it in time with the deadline, so I decided if the opportunity presents itself than I will do it next year. I still plan to submit to other contests this year. And I just found out today I am a finalist in one. So, putting aside dreams and goals for while sometimes is the best choice because resting and slowing is so important. And like my Dad always says, "When you're resting, God's working."

I'm in a big transition period in my life as well and I completely understand what you are describing. My author life has grown so much that it's not quite full-time, but it is definitively not part-time anymore. I am a mom of a four-year-old. I'm married. I'm finishing a post-masters program. I decided to leave my job in May to make more space for writing and transitioning into a new career as a therapist. Two days in, I could tell it was 100% the right move, but it has thrown a lot of things off and I feel so strange. Change and growth are uncomfortable, even when it's a welcome change, but it just means we are making space for the next great adventure.
I can totally relate to that transition feeling! You've got a LOT on your plate so it makes so much sense to feel a little off-balance as things shift around and grow, but you're doing amazing, you've got this! (I think having it "all together" is a myth anyway, right? Nobody really does, we're all constantly a little off-balance haha!)

The slowing down and accepting it bit seriously spoke to my soul. I’ve recently done that, after repeatedly botching my self imposed deadlines for my second book. It’s so hard not to compare and think I’m doing so poorly, but that’s ridiculous when you really think about it. Being okay with taking life slowly and embracing change is so healthy. Congrats again!

I'm older than you but definitely in one of those questioning phases - calling it a midlife crisis/full on burnout. I fulfilled all my obligations and then just stopped everything. I'm so tired and things have been so hard for so long, I just had nothing left in the tank. I'm working through all of the things in my life to see whether they stay or go. Life is way too short and I'm halfway! So I really have the make the most of what I have left.

Congrats on your girl, Bethany! I totally guessed it. Another UA-camr I follow is also due in December and she was absent from UA-cam for a while and I thought she might be pregnant and she was! So when you went MIA for a while, I had the same thought. I'm so happy for you, prepare yourself :) As someone who currently lives in a two kid household (a rambunctious 6 year old nephew and feisty 1 month old niece), I can tell you, it's not easy!
But I LOVE the consistency and speed tips, being able to vary those will definitely help me achieve my goals just in a different timeline. Because time disappears when you have little ones who also need your attention. Can't wait for the Butter Book (joined the Kickstarter when you first put up the page, can you tell I'm psyched!) and little Zion is gonna be a big brother :) His "It's BLACK!" had me rolling!

I was supposed to have a whole book done by August and I had to cancel with my editor because I just couldn't. It happens. Just you sharing your writing process and your life is something I would definitely see. Many times those are the types of videos that put me in the mood to write. You didn't ask for advice, but if I had it to do all over again I would have tried to do both writing and mothering and to be honest there are 3 reasons.
1.) you are a creative and a creative that isn't using their gift can really be a problem mentally. (the novel Where'd You Go, Bernadette is a beautiful depiction of what I'm trying to say.) I know this from experience because I became a little bit of a "menace to society" because I didn't create time for the writing.
2.) writing is a muscle and without regular use can atrophy.
3.) your children watching you work and seeing you do what you love as a job is really important.
Okay all done with my advice and now just excitement! PRAISE PRAISE PRAISE!!!!

The episodes and seasons idea is such a great idea and I kinda had a similar idea late last year. I wanted to film, edit and upload a BUNCH of videos at one time and schedule them out so I could take breaks from UA-cam. I still want to do that, and I might have to figure out how to make that work...
Right? I just love the concept, here's hoping it'll work really well too! :D Love that idea of batch filming a ton of stuff, it'll probably help you feel very relaxed about filming by the end too - although I will say I personally have never been able to batch film more than 2 or 3 videos in a day because they take so much out of me haha

Yay, congratulations on your growing family. Rest is important, it's okay if work time gets cut a little. Enjoy your family and sleep until your energy sets back in. And also congratulations on doing what you need to do to keep producing books. A lot of big-name authors manage to also be mothers, and writing as an occupation is a lot more compatible with home life than a lot of other careers.

I'm so happy for you, Bethany!!! I remember seeing the one video where you mentioned having a miscarriage (I don't remember exactly when you did it but it was around the kickstarter's beginning I think?) and being so heartbroken for you. I dealt morning sickness until the day my oldest was born after I found out I was pregnant. It sucked. Congrats!!! 🎉
