- Is there a true all season tyre, which you can use year round without issue? We find out by testing the 4 types of tyres in the snow, wet and dry.
The full write up and conclusion can be found on TyreReviews here: www.tyrereviews...
I have CrossClimate+ on my Golf IV for 3 years now. I can say only the best about this tyre. Living in Croatia so it can be up to 40+ C in the summer or -15 C in the winter. There is not one time when this tyres failed me. Still going strong after 60 000+ kilometeres (about 3.5 mm left on them). I am going to buy them again in 2 - 3 months. Great video also.
Glad you like them, feel free to leave a review on tyre reviews website :)
Kako su se pokazale u ljetnjim uslovima , kakav im je zaustavni put i da li pokazuju znake habanja na velikim vrucinama. Pozdrav
A bit more info please; I'll need to get winter tires this year and also new summer pack in 2021. Since dimension are 225/55 R17 it's not that cheap so I'm thinking about CrossClimate+; it's a 1.5 tons car, big sedan. How do they handle/feel at breaking?
Sorry for late replay. They are very very good in summer conditions. Regarding winter and breaking they are good enough? ABS turns on sometimes in fresh snow but nothing to bad. We had snow for 3 years in a row and literally nothing happend to me or the car. 20 000 + km per a year.
Thanks for the info. I'm thinking to buy them too 👍
I am impressed with the Crossclimate tires.....A truly 4 season tire. Match that with an AWD or 4WD vehicle and NO WORRIES! No, I am not talking about a false sense of security, I am talking about being able to function every day knowing that you can go to work, go to the store, take the kids to school or to team-sport practice, go on a road-trip, etc.
I bought it to my Alfa Romeo 156 2.0 JTS (170ps). No more any winter or summer tyres... Now in Poland is alot of snow, temperature near -20°C. Also I used them in summer and autumn. I live in mountains and I can't say nothing bad about Crossclimate. Perfect.
For those who come after. The dry pavement lap times graphic has a typo with the times. It shoot have the middle tires like this:
All Season 44.93 (+3.69%)
Cross Climate 43.37 (+0.08%)
I verified by looking at the linked article.
The times are fucked up for the wet handling part of the video too.
I have tested CrossClimates this winter on various road conditions: deep snow, melting snow, thin ice, rain and were doing very well. They are great for winter. Now its time to test them in summer conditions
So, what were your experiences with crossclimat during summer?
Based on your tests I got the Crossclimate SUV on my Mercedes GLK 220d 4matic. Drove 2 winters and 2 summers, thru snow, slush, wet, dry, scorching heat you name it. Outstanding performance in all conditions.
And the biggest surprise was how comfortable they are. My wife noticed that immediately, said it felt like I did something to upgrade the suspension.
They are also very quiet. In fact more quiet and comfortable than the Goodyear Efficient Grip I used as summer and Nokian WR3 SUV for winter.
Thanks for sharing! If you get the time feel free to pop your review over on www.tyrereviews.com :)

@@blackcatsarenopussies Thank you!
I’ve used Crossclimates for 2yrs in Scotland on a front wheel drive vehicle (summer through to winter). Great tyre and long life. In snow they appeared to have significantly better traction than summer tyres. In January,I took delivery of a new car and fitted Goodyear Vector 4 Season Gen2 tyres (again FWD). Been using them in the heavy snow recently. I can’t confirm the wear rate, but the Vector is definitely better in snow than the CrossClimate. Can’t tell any difference in dry, wet conditions and noise appears to be about the same. Both great tyres, but if snow may be an issue for you, I believe the Goodyear is better.
Glad you're getting on with both your tyre choices, they're both excellent tyres :)
Hi Clive what is the deepest snow you have used the goodyears in?
CrossClimate is doing very well on the test.. glad I pick this tyre.. very suitable for my country
What country is that?
the Netherlands... we often have mild winter, and mostly lots of rain.
+Denny C same in the UK, I have them and they're great
Denny C might get those myself cheers
@@dennyc4135 same here in Portland, OR
Good test, well done. Short and precise tested on the point. And i bought the CrossClimate now for BMW 528i touring in Switzerland.
Thanks for the feedback, I hope you're enjoying your CrossClimates :)
For UK climate, the Michelin CrossClimate really does seem like a good tire. Good video!
It's still my choice years on!
for which car?
I have the Crossclimate on my 2019 Qashqai - 225/45 R19. Handles at least as good as the summer tire, is substantially more comfortable to drive and also very (!) quiet. Best all season I ever had. Now if it holds up as well as it drives, I don't think I will revert back to summer/winter tyres (which I always did so far after using up a set of all seasons).
I’ve just ordered 4 cross climates for my 2002 Honda thanks to this video and your comments ! I never normally venture out when it snows here in the uk but feel that these tyres will give me the confidence to do so.
I think you'll be fine :) See the other Cross Climate video :)
I know now it's not the time in December, but still used to changing front or rear tires for savings and still can't repair only one Motorcraft shock absorber - must change both on front or back together.
This has to be the best tyre for the changeable UK weather!
+watchtheskies I'm a fan of the Crossclimate for southern uk
I'm in the East Midlands, we don't really get lot of snow, just rain and the occasional cold snap that doesn't last very long,
I would probably consider this as a good summer tyre considering that we do sometimes get very rainy days even in the middle of summer,
and then switch to a winter tyre between November and May
watchtheskies - Actually I think it would be excellent for the changeable winters, which can be warm one week and cold the next, with lots of rain all round and the occasional sniff of snow. If you check the tests on this guy’s site you’ll find a good quality summer tyre is much better for both wet and dry braking & handling.
@@tyrereviews I would happily recommend them for year round driving in Scotland too.
I’ve had them on my RWD Jaguar XF in deep snow in the highlands (I always carry chains, never needed to use them) and blistering hot weather in France and they always impress.
@1:58: The order of times and % differs between 2nd and 3rd place. (See also @2:42.)
Yeah, also the "conclusion" at 2:50 doesn't make any sense, since the 4 Season (Good Year) was second due to times?
But the best question is why there has no emergency braking on snow to see how CrossClimate is vs winter tyres?
Sadly for this test we only had access to the snowdome which made repeatable braking tests impossible. If you check the tyre reviews website there are plenty of tests with the CrossClimate that include snow braking.
Although picking the right tyre for the right condition is paramount, but it goes without saying that having the right attitude befitting of the driving conditions (winter, spring, summer or fall) is just as important if not more. No premium tyres can help an idiotic driver.
Very well put. Premium tyres can be a get out of jail free card in an unexpected turn of events, and their improved drive traction is great. But the reality is when it comes to cornering and breaking if you have overwhelmed your tyres and broke grip you've been going too fast for the car or the conditions. That being said I spare no expense on tyres nowadays as we are all human and none of us are perfect.
I think There is an error in the lap times of the dry handling section at the minute 2:48
Can you please make a comparison between crossclimate 2 and a very good summer tyre in hot conditions above 30o Celsius?
My question is: how fast can go in rain??? My Continental tyres lifting up at 70-100km/h, depends on how much rained to the road... Car is VW golf 4 TDI (1350kg +-)
So, they are good for all weather sporty driving?
I'll just buy one tyre of each and put them under my car.
Happy Spinning
🤣🤣
Not on the rims, just put them under Your car😜
How is CrossCLimte on +35 C ??
Yes, i have the same question.
I have tested. Very good!
i am using the tire for 1 year now. i went down to southern turkey this summer and one day it was 41-42 degrees celsius. performed perfectly on incredibly heatstroken roads and without any recognizable degredation. used in -8 degrees celsius in istanbul last winter on a snowy day both in highway and streets. i even got myself accidentally into 30 cm snow (1foot?) and managed to get out doing reverse. i can't believe this tyre. incredible.
+Ramazan Durak wow, glad they're performing :)
4 days ago bought crossclimates for my B8 Passat with 18" sizes. (235/45R18)
For now about 25 C performed perfect. Especially just after 53000 km used Continental Sport Contact 5 , Crossclimates made to feel very quiet drive.
I have offset sizes front and rear and sadly the Cross Climates dont fit my front tyres, but I'd rather have winters for when I don't need them rather than having summers on when I do.
Thank you for this video (cocorico ! ;-). But I just think that there is a mistake with the datas at 2:45 (an inversion ?)
I bought last year for my wife's car, absolutely perfect !
crossclimate is the shit ... almost no compromises ...
something wrong between seconds and % at 2:44
+Kayzox I also saw that: in the wet handling and dry handling tests, the % were wrong. They are switched between the all seasons and crossclimate. I'm wondering: what is correct? The % or the time value?
+Helder Fontes Sorry about that. The percentage value is correct, in that the winter was slightly faster than the all season tyre. Full details can be found in the article which is linked in the video description.
+Tyre Reviews Thank you for your clarification on the matter.
+Tyre Reviews
Can you update the test with the Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons Gen2 please?
+Roland Rohde
Hi, it was the Gen 2 on test, you can read the full article (linked in the video description) for more details
Is it safe to mix winter tires with all season tires in dry conditions?
Something's wrong with percent calculations at 1:59
Tyre Reviews used 4 different cars with 4 different sets of brakes for the braking tests.
This way you don't know whether the differences in the braking performance are a result of just different tyres or in fact the result of differences in the quality of the brakes.
They should have done the braking tests with the SAME car and the SAME brakes.
I know it is more work to do it that way, but if you test, you should test properly and without bias.
@Joe Johnson They said the difference between the non-summer tyres was negligible, therefore *it doesn't matter* which tyre was on which car (the crap one was the Summer tyre in case you didn't figure that one out)
It's also obvious whether the temperature is Celsius or Fahrenheit because the water hasn't frozen! (not to mention it's clearly a UK test with UK cars) 😉
@Joe Johnson Joe Johnson Joe Johnson Er... You're the only one being an aggressive asshole in response to logic, you insane hypocrite 😮
1) The definition of the word negligible literally means the difference "doesn't matter". They can't claim the tested difference was negligible, then give information that encourages viewers to infer false differences from a few seconds of video!
2) It's not a road, it's a test track. You don't cover a test track in grit and other shit if you're testing tyre performance, it will compromise the results. Also, you can see the track surface is completely clean.
3) If it was 18 degrees Farenheit they wouldn't be testing "dry braking" because there would be frost/ice forming on the ground.
4) It's obviously not winter or below freezing - there's no frost or ice on the grass never mind the track, and they had to go to an indoor ski slope to find snow FFS.
5) The car registrations are from the UK and if you bothered to glance at the link to the website (seeing as the test details were sooo important to you) the .co.uk would have confirmed that.
6) Finally, anyone with a brain cell understands that if *all* the tests on these *all-season* tyres were performed in below-freezing temperatures, *it wouldn't be an all-season test* you fucking moron
Joe Johnson are you seriously asking about the temperature you dumb fuck?
Why aren't you testing them on dry pavement in the cold? THere is a pretty big gap between -6 on snow and +15 on asphalt
Cold testing is very difficult due to rain
How are the CrossClimates in the cold weather (like -10-20*C) We don't get a ton of snow here, but temps do dip for a while in Dec-Jan-Feb up and down a lot...
They are fine. Crossclimate are otherwise good but they miss side trackion in corners (at winter). But you should not drive like mad man at those conditions anyway. I would also consider nokia allwheather, but i think Michelin is more durable.
What Ant man said :)
In Snow testing at the beginning of this video, which tire is which?
This will show you :) ua-cam.com/video/2cgtmmtsqFA/v-deo.html
why is crossclimate on the first snow test second from left, and then always the third?.
percentages were replaced for allseason and crossclimate in multiple locations.
something is suspicious!
nothing suspicious, just a bad edit
The Data would have been more close to accurate if all tires using same car model. Having to use different model cars, they will all handle differently.
I live in Winnipeg - Canada. I sent a email to Michelin regarding crossclimate and unfortunately they said they don’t have plans to sell those tires here. The question is: Why?
+Leonardo Heizer at a guess I would say the level of snow and particularly ice you get makes them unsuitable
you can get them in Winnipeg now - costco, kal tire, Can tire
Can you test CrossClimate when the weather is scorching?
We ran them in very hot conditions at the launch without issue :)
Conclusion: the best water tire is the winter tire always for pure logic, more grooves to evacuate water and softer rubber compound
An interesting comparison, especially since for the last few years, we have not had ANY real "winter" here in Germany anymore. I have asked myself lots of times if it would be worth it to go for a tyre which I could simply use all year long, but since summer is getting hotter and hotter every year (not unusual to see near 40 degree Celsius temps for a couple days), I always thought that any "all season" tyre would just be a bad compromise (not good for the few days of snow and also not good for the three to four months of 30+ degrees summer). I agree with the question posted in other comments here - how about a comparison at 35 degrees Celsius? I'd like to see how the CrossClimate performs there.
Crossclimates were developed to operate between minus 30 and plus 40 C.
freibier I have used The Cross Climate from Michelin on a taxi car and all i can say is that thay have amazing milleage in comparison to other tyres, the handling was un comparisson to Goodyear Eco3 from another plannet, and you were asking how they would perform in 35° C...well as i used them in Romania were in mid sommer the temperatures can peak up to 45 ° C...all i can say is that they are the best tyres i have ever driven in my whole life and i used other brands like Dunlop/Hanckock/BfGoodrich/Continental/Goodyear but surprinsingly there are no terms for comparisson. And i drove every day between 200-300 km only inside the city!!! so allot of turn / brakes. I would say that there is nothing more to say about these tyres and for you guys which i see are living in the UK i recommend them firmly 👌👍
Thanks for the comment, glad you're getting on with them :)
i forgot to mention that in Romania the winters are quite harsh and we get lots of snow...but i was able, without hesitation,to climb a mountain up to its peak of 1500 m with a lame Dacia Logan with no ESP/ABS and it felt like driving up a mountain during summer 😂 They turn very well on thick snow and perfor. admirable on ice, giving that they are all season tyres and not snow tyres 😉
freibier 3-4 months of 30+ degrees in Germany? Wishful thinking? 😁Statistically Frankfurt has 25-30 Summer Days (once 25C reached per day).
got the feeling, that the Wintercontact TS860 is more all season, than the Vector 4 Season. Got the same feeling on the road.
Both tyres have very similar performance qualities :)
just got the feeling, that the Goodyear smears in warm weather way more than other all-season tyres and my Conti Wintercontact didn't
Weiss jemand Wie viel KM kann man ungefähr mit diesen Reifen fahren:
Good year Vector 4 Seasons , 70000 km?
i have one set of pirelli scorpion ice&snow, well they are winter tires but the speed limit is more then 240km/h, could i run them all year round as the all season tires?
Technically you can, but it's not recommended due to the large increase in wet and dry braking distances as the temperatures increase.
Looking to get 4 new tyres for my kodiaq 4x4 cannot decide to stick with pirelli scorpion Verde seal inside or Michelin crossclimate any advice (p.s am in UK)
If you want snow performance, the CrossClimate is the far better choice. If not, maybe the Pirelli
No Pirelli for Winter Christopher !
@@Kaoniaw06 I live in UK we don't get that much snow so think I will get the same as the car came with
@@christopherbirtwhistle1160 of course, I inderstand you but if you can choose...😉
I wonder how good they are when there is 50% tread left or less?
TRying my best to test
going for the cross climate
Great choice
How do Crossclimate+ compare to Crossclimate?
Very close in performance
@@tyrereviews and noise and comfort?
1:01 lol? Is that black one that can't stop the summer tires? Summer vs what??? why did it go from 4 cars to 2 for this test. Just put the cross climate next to the snow tire car and have them race up the snow hill.. Have them both going 30mph down the hill and see how fast they can both stop etc. If the test is just slowly accelerating as to not slip, then of course any tire that can do it is going to look the same.
Shouldn’t they be using the same vehicle and trying out each tire separately? Not 4 different vehicles?
This is a very old video, that's how we usually do it, i can't remember why not for this one
These tests are extremely imprecise. There is absolutely no guarantee that the break-test start at exactly the same point thus they cannot be compared. It's pure manipulation.
For brake testing we run a minimum of 7 times and average out the results to avoid variances like you describe
If its manipulation what manipulation are you concerned with?
What mileage would I expect from the Goodyear Vector 4 season
Depends on vehicle and driving style. IT should match summer tyres.
Joy Broughton I have 54000 km with these tires. They are still ok, but I’ll change them as I don’t want to run them all the way.
goodyear is better on the snow, michelin is better on dry road...its impossible to have a tyre whci is teh ebst opn dry wet snow roas.. if it is better on wet road is not so good on dry.... Where are the number ot hte winter test???
The % calculations seem screwed up.
I wonder how winter and summer tires would compare on dry road in about 0C.
Evlo Summer tyres just don't work properly below 5-7°C. Winter tyres would definitely be the winner in such conditions.
AKS Which summer tyres do you have?
Sorry AKS, that’s not really true. Temperature has an effect on the compounds of the tyre. It has nothing to do with the likelihood of ice or snow. Below 7 degrees winters are the better tyre due to the temperature effects on the rubber. Summer tyres harden and lose grip. Winter tyres are designed to perform better at sub 7 come rain, shine or snow.
@@Nick-cs9dt BS. Winter tyres are just horrible on the dry and wet, no matter the temperature. Summer tyres are better in dry and wet, even if it is +2 oC. Only at extreme temperatures, like -20 oC or so, winter tyres are better. Otherwise, they are only good on snow and ice.
looking to buy some for my bmw
BMW 320d,
Primacy 3 X-Green - front,
CrossClimate - rear;
Good choice I think! ;)
WizRumburak not ideal. It gives you traction to start moving in snow and ice, but no braking or turning performance. Four all season or winter tyres are always recommended!
Where is the NOKİAN WATHERPROOF???
See more recent videos
The numbers don't match. 2:48 for example, Crossclimate are the worst and in percentage are almost the best
Distances on the comparisant picture after breaking is more than car lengt. In numbers we see for example 0,8m (which is a lot of course)... Very short cars you took for a test :) I nearly belived this "test" but seems it is Michelin advertisment.
LAP TIMES ARE CLOSE? LAP TIMES ARE CLOSE ? ARE YOU NUTS ? Only all season and crossclimate are close, the others are on different planets.
If Michelin Cross Climate can't win in an objective test, Tyre Reviews throws in 'subjective feelings'.
Objectively they were outperformed by the Goodyear on the Dry Handling test.
The deviation percentages behind the lap times are DEAD WRONG.
The Michelin Cross Climate were the SLOWEST on the dry handling test (+3.69% slower) and the Goodyears were only 0.08% slower than the summer tire.
This is pure test result manipulation.
In fact the Michelin Cross Climate was the BIG LOSER in the Dry Handling test.
Er, I'd suggest the actual lap times were transposed.
The truth is - if something is for everything, means it is for nothing. It is good for some winter incident but not for winter condition. Watching the TV advertisment must kee a bias on. On TV everything is working well just to convince you. From own life - on the winner tires of such TV test, car was newly bought with installed I could not climb to my house located on the hill during the snow fall, and what I have done on the budget kind as need to change in emergency, even condition warsen.
