I'm thinking about the S5II for photography with manual lenses, because the IBIS. Focusing a manual lens, with the camera hanheld is so much easier when you have good IBIS.
I’ve always prided myself on not ever (and I mean EVER) buying first generation tech. I’ve always been an iPhone 4s, -6s, XS, type of person and even skipping on the Canon EOS R because I wanted the tech to mature. However earlier this year intrigued by the 6K Open Gate, I rented and bought my very own body all within 2 weeks. It’s crazy to think that this camera is in the same class as both the Canon EOS R6 Mark II and the Sony a7IV. Not only does this body offers a lot more but it does it for a lot less. The auto-focus is decent though not like it’s contemporaries but solid enough get the job done. Shoot, as a first time LUMIX owner, I’m so impressed, I’ll easily buy the S1H Mark II (or S1HII) because I’m confident that everything on your cons list will be addressed and be included in next the S1H body.
Bro, I just stumbled across this video and had to run to my Camera 😂. I shoot High-end Weddings Professionally with 4 S5 II and 1 S5 IIX and I swore you said you could shoot C4K / 60 to the SD Card. I shoot this format all the time, this made me look at your other concerns. You couldn’t have spent a lot of time with this Camera and for some of the Higher Request we are still looking at a sub $2200 Camera. A SSD is not required but you content sounds like the S5 IIX is crippled when it is far from it 😂 I come from GH5, BlackMagic 4K, Sony A7S iii use cases. Again, I am not saying the Camera doesn’t come without shortcomings as it does… but I am commanding a pretty high rate and no slow downs to my workflow.
Wow, not sure why you’re getting so much wobble from the E-stabilisation. Ignoring the Boost mode, when I’ve used the in built IBIS combined with regular non-boost E-stabilisation, as long as the focal length is over 20mm, not getting any wobble. Even with an autofocus lens. It’s a great camera 👌
That and the Sony cameras he’s talking about are the video focused cameras. The A7Siii and all it’s derivatives use a 12mp sensor so if allows for faster read out of the sensor and therefore it can achieve 4k120 The S5iix and S5ii is a hybrid, it’s also designed to take high quality photos unlike the A7Siii FX3, ZV-E1
If you had to pick which image looked better…Varicam LT or S5iix, which would you pick. I have an option to get either one and I can’t decide. Which would you choose as your 1 cam? Any possibility to upload a quick comparison between the two?
I haven't had the S5IIX for long (barely a week) but I personally think the VariCam LT delivers a MUCH cleaner and nicer image. Don't get me wrong-- the S5IIX looks amazing but it looks... digital (?). The noise patterns are clean but, again, they look digital. The LT, on the other hand, looks organic. Almost "film-like", especially at it's second native ISO of 5000. Now... if you're deciding between the two, make sure to take into consideration what goes into owning and operating an LT, and what you're missing out on if you have an LT versus the S5IIX. You should check out my other videos where I review the LT and compare it to the P4K. I'm planning on doing a comparison video soon so stay tuned for that!
Amazing review and funny thing is I just bought the usb c flash drive to experiment with 😂. I haven't bought the external monitor because of hdmi lag but if you say it's bearable with audio input lost then I might get the video assist. As for 4k 60 it works on mine with SD Card im using Elite x Pro 60 v60 cards which are cheap and beats the read and writes of every card in its bracket for some reason but yeah 4k60 Long gop and all-i works except 4k60 800mb all-i.
Whoa! Those ARE really affordable, holy crap! When I was using my Sony v60 SD cards, it stopped recording at 4K60. So I'll definitely have to give those cards a try!
Are you 100% that 4K60 recording is only available to external SSD? It doesn't make sense because 4K60 is available to the regular S5 II and that doesn't support external SSD recording, like the S5IIX.
4K60 (Long GOP on S5II, and both Long GOP and All-I on S5IIX) is available and can write to an SD card but only up 600mbps. You need an SSD for All-I 800mbps on the S5IIX.
I understand some people like the camera. The IBIS is great and the AF in video is OK. However, I have used most Panasonic cameras and the detail rendering is really worse than before.
you need to do more research before sharing your opinion, Panasonic have addressed the wobble and are working to fix it. Also using non-native lenses isn't really the best way to evaluate the usability of a camera's features
I think the colors are much better on the GH6 yes, details rendering are also better on the GH6, but the S5 has even nicer details rendering. Both the GH6 and the S5II uses bad edge sharpening (yes it's much worse on the S5II), the GH6 image look very soft but with very sharp edge, the S5II has bad sharpening everywhere ... Only the S5 and the S1 have perfect detail rendering, the GH5 with the last firmware also have very nice rendering with most PP when using -5 sharpening, especially in Open Gate mode.
The music playing behind you is so awful that it makes your video almost unwatchable. Why do you think you need music to do a testimonial. Are we supposed to get up and dance or is this some kind of drama. If we’re interested in what you have to say, we don’t need the totally inappropriate music.
Camera compromises on too much. I bought one, really do not like it. The s5m1 is a much better camera. I’ve been trying to sell my s5ii for months, zero offers, I’ve marked it down to 1200. The moire is terrible, it ruined a client shoot, didn’t notice til post production. The wobbles are even worse, ibis is trash. I will say the only positives are that the stills are great, vlog outdoors with natural light is great, sucks indoor for some reason. WB system sucks, you should be able to get a value from awb/ awb lock. They really should include all intra internal to s5ii with a firmware update. Gyro stab would be huge. I feel like if they didn’t rush this camera out, it could have been a monster hit. Cropped 4k 60? That’s unfortunate :(. They definitely missed the mark with this camera

Very detailed explanation and review.
Thanks! I appreciate it!!

I’ve got it and love it. Only downside for me is 120fps limited to FHD.

Best review of this camera on UA-cam.

I remember when 25 Mbs was intense. Gosh, I'm old.
4k60p is available with an SD card
What was he thinking lol
The Samsung trick is a new one lol, have had it laying a round for a while.
Thanks.
The 180 fps issue is a hardware limitation because Panasonic Lumix cameras do not use stacked sensors.
That and the Sony cameras he’s talking about are the video focused cameras. The A7Siii and all it’s derivatives use a 12mp sensor so if allows for faster read out of the sensor and therefore it can achieve 4k120

2k and FHD are pretty much the same
I don't tend to grade at all I like a "normal" looking image do you think the 6k at 4:2:0 is really going to affect me?
If you're just going to shoot V-709 and do no grading, you should be fine. No one on youtube will notice. ;)

I can also use 4k 60, using sony v60 tough cards
Whoa! Those ARE really affordable, holy crap! When I was using my Sony v60 SD cards, it stopped recording at 4K60. So I'll definitely have to give those cards a try!
@shinzouproductions8770 yeah bro definitely try em u won't regret it 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 they were even cheaper on prime day. The next one is coming up too.
That Samsung drive needs to come in a 500 or 1tb version. I have a 256 and never even tried it on my camera 🤦🏾♂️
03:23 Thats not true! You should use V90 cards - as recommended by Panasonic - and you are good to go:-)
Your requirements are in the GH6 for the same price range. If not you need tog go S1H.
Are you 100% that 4K60 recording is only available to external SSD? It doesn't make sense because 4K60 is available to the regular S5 II and that doesn't support external SSD recording, like the S5IIX.
I think it might just be with All-I, but shouldn't affect all 4k60 on the camera.
Yeah I don’t know what he’s on about, you can shoot regular 16:9 4k60fps all-I internally to an SD card
4K60 (Long GOP on S5II, and both Long GOP and All-I on S5IIX) is available and can write to an SD card but only up 600mbps. You need an SSD for All-I 800mbps on the S5IIX.
How is the S5iix compared to the Z8?
4k 60 is easily available even in a V60 memmory card

nice, very informative, thank you. But..plllease lose the irritating music.
But I like the music. ☹️
me too;-) ..but it is too loud / distracting, imho. Keep up the good work;-)
Actually the GH6 is a way better camera than the S5IIX in my opinion and from experience, the only thing missing is PDAF on the gh6.

You need Sony glass what are you talking about Sony has the most lens of anyone
