A friend of mine had a Bosch. It was installed 2018 . 3 weeks ago the unit stopped running . Bosch tech support Told me the board is bad. The problem is there are no boards until October. So Bosch replaced the condenser unit under warranty. That shit is awesome.
The system setups are by all intents and purposes way oversized, but the 5-ton outdoor condensers are also 4-ton capacity with a switch of a jumper to match the indoor 4-ton AHU units. The unit in the video was not properly set on the jumper to a 4-ton capacity to match the AHU. These items do work together by Bosch design, if set correctly. Also, the 3/4" lineset IS acceptable as an optional size, but 7/8" is the standard recommended on the 4-5-ton units. The brazing is horrendous and a cap missing that isn't a locking cap would be an install violation. Be it as it may, they did not properly set the jumper for 4-tons but that is still grossly oversized based on the size of the house shown in the video. No surge protection is another big factor that should be added along with proper drain pan safety switches and traps as mentioned. Bosch only produces two physical condenser units that work for an array of sizes. A 3-ton unit is also a 2-ton. This unit is a 4-5 ton based on the settings in the unit. The lineset length is fine based on the vertical run and TEL of the lineset and does not need to be replaced. I have sold and installed quite a few of these units and the client should be fine at 4-ton as the system will ramp up and down without short cycling. The 4-ton settings should be running at 54hz at full capacity unless it is limited by static pressure and the system is automatically reducing capacity.
My Bosch trainer told me there is never a real reason to set that jumper lower. We have done 50+ Bosch systems, we set the switch to derate on the first few, have not since, My Bosch sales rep has told me the same, its there, but completely unnecessary.
If you go to Bosch Quick Start Guide it has a table and on the 5 ton you can use 3/4, 7/8, or 1 1/8. Just can’t run out to max lengths if using 1 1/8”. Just like on the Bosch 18 seer you can have a 5-ton to a 3-ton air handler and you have an ahri match for that.
yes, it's in the condenser install manual, something like "piping limits". long lengths of 1-1/8" (or any) with rooftop condenser (any long vertical line-set that runs down building) would be bad for oil return, especially for an inverter that may never run at 100% or even close. we all know what no oil does, dead compressor. 😬
Just because you can do it does not mean you should do it. There’s a reason why the wedged end at the air handler and the condenser are 7/8 if they really didn’t care right they could’ve made it three-quarter.
I don't like it when other people do crappy work and I take pride in mine but I do not understand any circumstances bad mouth another contractor. That is a sign of you bringing them down to make you look better. I don't feel the need to make myself look better. My work speaks for itself.
Mikey Mike that was a good video it’s different than all the others. I’ve watched you’ve always installing something or taking something out, but I’ve never seen you do one on troubleshooting, that was very fun watching it. Thank you.

@@PipeDoctorthen the contractor tells you why are you complaining you got your system for free national grid paid. Sometimes better to pay for things. The whole system is terrible
My understanding from bosch is suction can be 3/4 or 7/8. But liquid line has to be 3/8 no acceptions. I believe It even says that in manual. Will check tomorrow.
Even if you can do, it doesn’t mean you should do it. There’s a reason why the wedged connections at the air handler and the heat pump condensing unit are 7/8“
I just installed one of these condensers and 2 days later had to change the thermostat because of something bleeding over, I was reading 7.8 volts on the yellow to common, 4.8 on brown to ground and that was enough to turn on the unit outside.
I tore out a 5 ton system that had a 3/4 refrigerant line. It had a nasty burn out. Of course we ran a brand spanking new 7/8 line to the new 4 ton system that was needed for the size of their house. Some people hahaha. Same thing using a 7/8 as a reducer at the bell swedge.
My senses tell me that this was a 3 ton system. Along came Super Sales-Tech and sold them 2 Bosch systems to SAVE THEM from the NY-Clean Heat rebates!! Charged them crazy, took the rebate and threw that system in. Why spend $250 on the proper line-set, there's one there already and the customer will never know! Some say home owner do-it-yourselfers are bad. I go back on more systems installed by "pro's" than home owners.. Sheesh.
Absolutely it was a super tech but they needed the 5 tons in order to qualify for those stupid rebates. Let’s say it’s $2000 a ton you got 10 tons. That’s $20,000 right there bingo Ching installing this is what PSEG approved.
@@PipeDoctor Exactly, these homeowners pay a supposed professional, should get a job done right and not a garbage install. Could never leave a house knowing I did that.

umm, the BOVA (condenser) units only come as 36K or 60K btu. with the 60K unit paired with BVA(air handler) of 48K btu, it will only produce 4 ton of output and compressor runs at lower speed(frequency) to accomplish 4 tons of output(peak). the same for other air handler sizes. (24/36K use 36K condenser) and (48/60K use 60K condenser). the line-set being undersized isn't great, but will probably squeak by since it should never ramp past 4 ton output anyway. I'm not sure of their strategy though. SEER may be a bit lower than rated(20) on that unit.
I Agree with this... Not everyone is up on the QR code thing... There are plenty out there that would look at it and be like 'what am I supposed to do with this? Whatever... I'll call Petro...' @kain93 , Mikey Pipes was there to diagnose why the unit was not turning ON!! Also, why put gauges on the unit if it was cooling and the line set is incorrect. It sure sounds like the homeowner will rectify the issue. Stick to whatever it is you do. Hopefully it is not HVAC repairs. 😂😂😂

National grid and PSEG are not vetting the contractors on the list and the contractors are taking advantage of the grant money to provide shoddy work.
