Do the ion-based weapons deal additional shield damage? If so it may be a neat idea to use ions to cripple a ship/kill its shields then use phase batteries to shred the hull..
@@Omnomface That's the whole Idea. You already have ion based weapons in the game that damage only the shields but a great amount, however deal 0 damage to hull. However there's no weapon from what I can think, that actually benefits from attacking solely the hull.

You forgot to mention that all Boron L and XL engens don't have a delay, or a charge time, when activating travel mode. This is very important detail, as this is the only race that have such an opportunity. They can repossition they ships, carriers and alike, on a battlefield lightning fast, as well as keap they opponent slow to react.
Based on those stats, Borons will have hands-down the best S-class shields, since they have capacity and regeneration rates that nearly rival Terran shields, with a recharge delay nearly a full second shorter than Split shields. Terrans look like they'll still have a slight edge with L / XL class shields, but the gap seems fairly small. I suppose it's a good thing that their S-shields are so strong if the faction is going to be reliant on carriers and fighters/bombers.
Oh fun! Deadly's old mod for X3:TC had a Boron Shark and a Sturgeon superfreighter! (Also, a Kasungi that was absolutely gorgeous.) I really hope Deadly and his team are still playing. I wonder - would the Guppy be able to kick out Mk2 Laser Towers and defense drones a lot faster, too?
Now I can see the real reason why you can't install other weapons on their ships. They'd just be massively overpowered, if they also had hard hitting guns available. I really love the idea, though. It offers for a real alternative in play-styles. They did this with the Split and faction-specific weapons already, the Split being the exact opposite, hard hitting with weak shields. But the Split are still mostly using the same weapons as the other races, the only difference being the number available. I hope they will add some more diversity and uniqueness to the early factions as well in the future, also making use of the new graphics engine. It'd be a shame if only the Boron could benefit from these stunning visuals.
I hope for more Capital Ships that only have turrets. I mean when someone says *Battleship* I think of the ones we had in WW2. Big chunky Ships with big chunky cannons. Also a greater variety of L ships would be nice, Frigates as well as light, medium and heavy Cruisers for example. Also with only Turrets. I bet the AI wouldn't look as silly, if they don't have to stop and aim every 2 minutes in an engagement.
Not really. They have very few weapon hardpoints and stat wise fighters with split mk4 engines are on par shield and speed wise. Boron s and m weapons stand out though so you probably do not want to use something else than boron weapons anyways. Except on the destroyer. That one just looks bad. Like really bad. Most likely have to mod the stats because visually it is stunning but a syn does more than 12! times more damage. Even the bad teladi destroyer is twice as strong. Fighting stations will require s and m ships and it can only be done oos with s ships because station explosions are a thing.
@@Nephale it’s hard to really judge overall performance till we can see what it’s like with an optimal loadout but regardless I think you’re misunderstanding the Ray. It’s not a front line damage dealer like the rattle snake it’s a fleet support vessel. It’s prime objective is to be a bullet sponge while it uses its main gun to rip apart enemy shields while locking them down for m and s ships to tear them apart. The Boron’s whole philosophy is to use their ion weapons to easily obtain fighter superiority while subjecting larger ships to a death by 1000 cuts, surrounded by larger ships that may not hit hard but are a bitch to kill as they keep the swarms of fighters in the fight with their numerous rapid launch bays. Even the Ray itself is setup for rapidly launching and retrieving its small compliment of fighters. We also have no idea how the construction cost of these vessels will compare. I wouldn’t be surprised is a Ray cost significantly less than a rattlesnake.
The ships look beautiful, and I would say the Boron XL carrier fills a niche that is lacking in X4 generally, a fast Carrier that can function as the center of a reaction force. Even the Split, with their extreme emphasis on speed and aggression field an incredibly slow carrier more akin to a fortress than a fleet carrier
So awesome, I literally gasped sseeing the Dolphin, a greatly designed and defensive medium size trader seemingly made just for me, it was an instant buy since I was already given the Boron scout to watch my back or visa versa
I haven't finished my Terran only playthrough and I don't think I ever will because I'm going to start a Boron only playthrough as soon as this releases.
As someone who played x3 alot and made the guppy as my main ship im happy to see its docks increase from 12 to 16 but its sad to lose that frieghter dock and the orca became from TL to a carrier I wish they made the skate it also looks cool and the ship design is on par with the ship design of boron in x4
wanna know what I find hilarious? The Hydra, a medium corvette, is as fast as the Yaki Moreya, which is the ship I would have used to do the time trial for Boso's research. It's probably one of my new favorite ships, it's weaker than a Katana in combat but not terribly, its hull is lighter but like mentioned, it has over 20k shields to compensate. As most Boron ships, its weapons slow things down, so you could have Katanas and Hydras in squadrons together. The Hydras could shieldtank, handicap enemies, and kill enemy shields and the Katana could wreck hulls with their high damage Terran weapons.
These ships are stunning. I hope we can one day see racially themed elevators, landing pads and station interiors that don't all look like they bought it from the Argons. (glad to see some of it so far at the end of the video!)
@@CaptainCollins My edit on my comment came too late but I saw at the end there some nice boron hallways! Let's hope everyone gets the love in future updates :D
These are some really cool ships. I wish that they are not so static and moved like the Boron Dolfin used to. I like the docking for the fighters, this looks like it is going to be an improvement. One of the biggest problems that I have seen with carriers is that once fighters launch, they have a hard time docking again. Some will dock while others fly around, sometimes keeping the ship from operating as it should. Thinking that it is trying to dock fighters that won't dock. Another problem that I have seen is fighters attacking a capital ship or station. They just don't attack right and get blown up rather quickly. Even if I just armed them with torpedo's, they will fly too close to the station and only occasionally fire. It drove me crazy watching them. Wondering if any of them will get off a salvo before the whole squadron gets blown up. Please tell me that this was improved.
I wonder if the Teladi will be redesigned to match their racial traits, by having better or more turret and shield slots, since the Boron are also defensive, but seems to focus more on shielding rather than guns, so the Teladi should have better turrets? To protect their profitssss
Most say the game is progressing in good direction heads down to egosoft but there's one thing that is still missing massive pack of new ships am talking about ships that do not belong to the faction but only thru the research progress same goes for the stations
7:59 I don't get your numbers the Hydra looks to have 26 631 shield HP while the Katana has 18 398 so it's just 45% more not 250% more. I mean they aren't bad but they not that much better then ships with Terran shields.
the irukandji is an excellent scout ship (maybe the best at actual scouting), its not mentioned too much here but the handling and speed are great, but not the acceleration
question; i recently purchased the Kingdom end expansion, but i am running a game i selected, "the young promise". does the boro map get added to the game i am running or do i have to start a game with the Kingdom end expansion to get the boro systems =? thx
I haven't tried any of the Boron capitals yet, but the one thing that you notice immediately about the Boron ships is the abysmal acceleration. Except for that a lot of things about Boron ships are great, they have amazing shields, they are all fast compared to their counterparts (Thresher has something like 6K travel speed, compared to 2.4K on a Peregrine), so I expect them to do amazingly well in automated roles, especially out of sector. But flying one is such a pain, as both speeding up and slowing down takes absolutely forever. Even in small ships like a Maki it is really noticable, but driving a Thresher is kinda like driving a cannon ball, it goes really fast, but it is not going to slow down unless it hits something :)
The Boron designs are absolutely not my style, in fact I normally HATE this "organic style" BUT they did such a great job that even I cant help but compliment the designers on this marvelous work! X designers continue to impress me!
I love the Guppy. It's a smaller, much cheaper, yet capable, carrier compared to the Zeus E, with about half the S class carrying capacity. It doesn't carry M class ships, but the Boron M vessels stand well on their own, are fast and very well shielded. Terrans will be hurt in their pride! And the Hydra is now my personal ship of choice. The Ray may not be an anti-capital ship destroyer, but they are good at screening other large ships from fighters, bombers and M sized ships. I feel that the Boron are the exact opposite of Terrans in their warship philosophy: they deploy lots of high quality fighters, interceptors, bombers, gunships and corvettes to do the fighting. And if caught by surprise, their capital ships can withstand an assault from an enemy ship while they launch their subordinates. The Raptor remains The Raptor of carriers, but the Shark can lead fast response fleets, no problem!
I wish some of the Borom ships could have been designed wide, and not just long. Having one be akin to a Manta Ray, or a Sea Horse, or even a Shark with fins, would have been amazing.
Slighty disappointed with the XL carrier. If the split focus on weapons and the boron on swarming and defense. Why is the hangar capacity of the split carrier so much bigger...? I had really hoped the boron carrier would have the most capacity, it seems so logical to me...
as it looks like now you will need more carriers with torp fighters to take down bigger ships and stations . i dont know if you have good torps for the destroyers and you will need some supportships for your carriers for the ammo. kingdoms end good place for relaxing with its soundtrack . the shields are crazy if you include +30-35% more shields with mods
well taking the shut down of the gates its no surprise they using same or close models for different ships but i expect a little more besides being good looking ships
Been watching your guides and content for a while now and really appreciate i managed to get that way :) I'm extremly hyped for Kingdom End and i think its incredible that the new Boron design incorporate the Modules like that. It really destroys the looks of some of the "older" ship models by just having turrets and especially engines protrude out in sometimes extremly unfitting and ugly places. Question is then, can we hope that those get reworked in order to fit with the new incorporated module designs?
To quote the game : "Excited Boron squeaks". The ships seems a bit weak so far ? Guess we'll see in action. They do look absolutely gorgeous, and carriers are always my favorite in every game (although they are very difficult to use pre 6.0 in X4). Also, each DLC had a "super" ship (Raptor for split, asgard for cradle, erlking for TOA) I wonder if the Borons will get one and what it will be.
@@XxKidnoffxX im assuming because the shark can field them faster? plus the shark can carry and field 12 M class ships total in addition to the S classes? some good m class ships being able to be fielded effectively( raptor can only do 1 at a time, shark can do 4) could do damage against fighters... im just guessing, i am kind of wondering myself if the shark might need a buff to its ship capacity once the dlc releases since it has barely ANY turrets... who knows until we get our hands on it? maybe there is something we dont know yet, maybe the shark has a secret unique ability or effect?
Oh ya, I'm going to like these. I don't think I'd like their fleet on it's own, but the carrier's and the corvet look like awesome additions to a mixed fleet
That is what I am thinking the boron are used for their carriers and supporting ion weapons while you use the other races vessels for ship to ship combat
There are some changes made to some factions like the ZYA that changes their economy a little bit, that will require a new start. Was confirmed by the devs already. But if you don't care about them and some others than no need
The X series has always had its little oops moments when translating words to spoken English. That small flesh eating fish of the Amazon is pronounced (Pi-rah-na) not (Pi-ran-ya). You were spot on with Porpoise though :)
I know the video is in English, but I would say that the spaceman Captain Collins is correct, and the common American English pronunciation is the "mistake". "Piranha" is pronounced exactly as Captain Collins pronounced it in many countries including Spain, Germany (where the game and video maker come from), France, Netherlands, Italy, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Croatia, Ukraine, and many others, and in Sweden, Finland, and Thailand it's a little different, but the "ya" is still there, as it should be because that's what the 'nha' signifies. More importantly, that's how it is pronounced where piranha come from in South America. I think this shows that we can learn many things from the spaceman Captain Collins.
@@dudleydo-right9936 I think both pronunciations are excepted, based on a quick search on the subject. It would make sense for the peoples in the area where piranhas actually live to treat the 'n' as though it has an ~ over it though. @Captain Collins: I got tickled when I imagined someone reading "PI RAN JAH" like a dragon shout from Skyrim with PI being pronounced like a certain famous irrational number and "JAH" havig the 'J' pronounced in the English manner like in the word 'joke'.
So. This fills a role ive been looking for in my fleets a sorta copy cat to the Japanese mobile force in ww2 (kido butai) have my Terran and Argon provide battleships and cruisers.
I like to see that they didn't go all out with power creep giving Boron powerful destructive weapons, as it wouldn't fit their race. It will surely be require a different playstyle than their Terran and Split counterparts to play optimally.
I really wish Egosoft kept the sturdy design from X3 and improved that. The Piranha looks like a ship that actually can take a beating. Unlike all the other s class.
I would also love to see a the inside of a Boron ship that was made for them. The ships that I seem so far seem to be made for other species. I would love to see a ship that I jumped into and swim around inside and see the Boron outside of those mini ships of there's.
The fact that there hasn't been a real TM class ship from X3 in the M or L class is one of my major annoyances with X4. Having a middle ground between "Here's a crappy frigate with 1 hanger" and "Super mega mega XL carrier that can hold 100 ships" is important. Hopefully the Guppy can end up being a great force multiplier and difference maker in the early to mid game before you can afford to grind out the money and rep for a carrier and all the fighters.

1 L , 1 XL and the auxilliary which is the better "smaller" carrier :D
I wish some of the Borom ships could have been designed wide, and not just long.
Having one be akin to a Manta Ray, or a Sea Horse, or even a Shark with fins, would have been amazing.
Hey Cap, what are your PC specs as your videos/FPS are always so smooth and it looks like your playing in 4k!
You say the Ray has 2L, 6M turrets, but in your footage you can clearly see 12M turrets firing overall?
Hi. Can i also replace the engines or shilds in mk2,3,maybe mk4, too?
The Boron make 3 variants, yes. But you can't use other engines, just like you can't use Boron engines on non-boron ships.
From what you said about the ships, it sounds to me like it'll be big balance time after release.
Slighty disappointed with the XL carrier. If the split focus on weapons and the boron on swarming and defense. Why is the hangar capacity of the split carrier so much bigger...? I had really hoped the boron carrier would have the most capacity, it seems so logical to me...
Well, Boron was very friendly to the Terran in old lore. there compliment each other strengths and weakness well.
Interesting fleet composition, Boron and Terran
And the new Boron gate opens up right next to Terran space :)
You guys are thinking of Argon. Terrans and Borons were at war.
Yep, Terran and Boron mixed fleets wil be a sight to behold for sure.
as it looks like now you will need more carriers with torp fighters to take down bigger ships and stations . i dont know if you have good torps for the destroyers and you will need some supportships for your carriers for the ammo. kingdoms end good place for relaxing with its soundtrack . the shields are crazy if you include +30-35% more shields with mods
well taking the shut down of the gates its no surprise they using same or close models for different ships but i expect a little more besides being good looking ships
Been watching your guides and content for a while now and really appreciate i managed to get that way :)
I'm extremly hyped for Kingdom End and i think its incredible that the new Boron design incorporate the Modules like that. It really destroys the looks of some of the "older" ship models by just having turrets and especially engines protrude out in sometimes extremly unfitting and ugly places.
Question is then, can we hope that those get reworked in order to fit with the new incorporated module designs?
when i saw the hydra i thought stargate atlantis , the wraith ships
They all are Wraith ships in disguise
True, true…
I thought Vorlon.
finally some Banu ships!
Oh wait, wrong dimension!
X D
To quote the game : "Excited Boron squeaks".
The ships seems a bit weak so far ? Guess we'll see in action. They do look absolutely gorgeous, and carriers are always my favorite in every game (although they are very difficult to use pre 6.0 in X4).
Also, each DLC had a "super" ship (Raptor for split, asgard for cradle, erlking for TOA) I wonder if the Borons will get one and what it will be.
Erm, shield effects? Is that a new addition to the game?
Haven't noticed, possibly v6.00 thingy
@@CaptainCollins I certainly hope so
simple question, maxed shark vs maxed raptor, who wins?
Without fighters? The Raptor. With the same fighters? The Shark. With race specific fighters... hard to tell :) -> not an easy question ;)
@@CaptainCollins very interesting i like that it isnt a complete stomp one way or the other
@@CaptainCollins But the Raptor have a lot more hangar and docks... I don't undertand how the shark can be better
Im worried about high shield and low hull of boron ships due to AI boosting all the shields away in combat
The real question is whether I have to start a new game if I get this dlc or is it save compatible ?
compatible! Even better, you will not miss out anything :)
There are some changes made to some factions like the ZYA that changes their economy a little bit, that will require a new start. Was confirmed by the devs already.
But if you don't care about them and some others than no need
I love this game!
The X series has always had its little oops moments when translating words to spoken English. That small flesh eating fish of the Amazon is pronounced (Pi-rah-na) not (Pi-ran-ya). You were spot on with Porpoise though :)
PI RAN JAH ! xD
Ah! the true question is, how do borons pronounce them 🧐
@@dudleydo-right9936 I think both pronunciations are excepted, based on a quick search on the subject.
@@tovoklore6356 If it has ñ then it's " nya ". I should say in France we say "na".
what's happening with ship capacity, Cap ?
Gosh i love this game.
Filling a ship with water would add a lot of mass which would reduce manoeuvrability quite hard.
@@Nephale Not only that, a hull breach would decompress the liquid into space and everybody on board would be flushed out like it was a toilet 😂
@@Nephale Yeah but 1 the Boron would find some way to overcome it and...
2 It would be so cool to see. :)
Does this control like Elite Dangerous?
more or less
The fact that there hasn't been a real TM class ship from X3 in the M or L class is one of my major annoyances with X4.
Having a middle ground between "Here's a crappy frigate with 1 hanger" and "Super mega mega XL carrier that can hold 100 ships" is important.
Hopefully the Guppy can end up being a great force multiplier and difference maker in the early to mid game before you can afford to grind out the money and rep for a carrier and all the fighters.
Oh, not only that! Also a good option for the new "Position Defense" mechanic!
So umm, borons in x3 weren't fully interactive?
Welp I love my fighter swarms, seems I have a new flag ship and staple in my fleets
