    It gives a slight impression of the scale you feel when you are ingame.
    But being on foot on a spacestation and seeing a XL ship flying over you is on a complete different level.
    It's at the same time what dreams and nightmares are made off. Just unbelievable feeling.

    So I've mentioned several times that I intend to make an updated video for the new ships that came with 5.00 and the ToA DLC. Unfortunately, time hasn't been on my side to push through with making a video of that size as I've recently started a full-time job, and I've been working on other projects where there's people breathing down my neck until I complete those.
    -Additionally, seeing that Egosoft has dropped heavy hints that they're going to announce something big for X4 before the end of the year, I'll probably wait until after the surprise is released and any new ships are added before I work on the new video so that I don't release yet another soon-to-be-obsolete video.-
    Edit: Well then, looks like we're getting stunning new Boron ships! All the more reason to wait before the next video, and I do find it funny that my throw-away gag at the end of the video ended up being on the nose.
    Thank you all for your feedback on this first video of mine, I hope to eventually deliver something grand in the not-so-distant future.

    Very cool. I'd just recommend replacing the not-to scale human models with properly scaled ones and adding a length measurement if that is available. Thanks for creating this.

      The only issue with using properly-scaled human models, as can be seen with the spacesuits, is that for the larger ship models people become less than pixels. I've gotten a suggestion for using a small ship that later docks at a medium frigate to be used as a constant reference scale that I will implement in the 5.00 video.

      imo the giant people helped with a sense of scale. Especially the contrast between treating an Asp like a toy plane and then sitting on an M ship like it's a van or so.

      I didn't understand the human models until about halfway through and then it made sense to show the actual range of ships. If a real human needs tweezers to work on a human model from the game the fact that the same human could fit in some of the ship models means that they are truly enormous.

    A lot of time and work goes into a video like this.
    Nevertheless, two tips:
    White writing on a slightly darkened white background? It's really hard to read.
    The proportions blur. It would be nice if a space suit was placed next to every fighter or every second one.
    And later, when it comes to the L and XL ships, as a substitute or in addition to the space suit, there is a fighter next to it.
    Just so the viewer can keep an eye on the proportions.

    Looks like your hunch about the CPU ship was right on the mark while th 7.0 update and Timelines dlc it is very much present in-game along with quite a few new ships.

    Either the jumpgates got smaller or the #deca did, because I remember from X3tc that it cleared the inner diameter of gates only just barely- taking up 90% of the space, but in this video it looks only 50% of the space.

      Mostly for scale, but I've heard rumors that there's a wreck of one somewhere in Xenon space, Atiya's Misfortune III I think. Egosoft may bring the full thing back in a future update or DLC.

      It's definitely on my to-do list, but there's going to have to be a lot more work done for the second video in order to justify it in comparison to this first one. Firstly, I figured out where and how to get most of the ship textures from the game files and apply them to the ships in Blender, so I'm going to have to go back and do touch-ups on all of the models so that they're all not 3D printed plastic-looking models. Secondly, I should probably step away from the mass/weight stat and go for actual physical length, which is going to require a lot of field research in the game with a spacesuit and a nav beacon (the blender models are thankfully to-scale to each-other, so I could guestimate for a few of the ships by comparing them, especially the ones like the Deca which don't appear in the ship spawn cheat menu for me). Thirdly, I want to add some of the surface elements to the ships, maybe not all 93 medium turret slots for ships like the Raptor, but definitely things that would otherwise be visible and noticeable like the engines and main batteries, and maybe shields. Fourthly, to avoid being just recreating another "lazy" lineup video like this one, the ships are going to have to fly, which means working with animation keyframes. And fifthly, if there are engines and the ships are going to be flying across the screen, then that means I'll need to do a little bit of audio work post-render, which is probably the easiest step of the lot.
      I'm not going to lie, the second video might take me months to put out.

      That's my current plan after seeing the announcement. Hard to believe there'll be 3 1/2 DLC releases between this video and the next (Pirates, Boron, multiverse with its one exclusive ship, and Timelines).

      The capital ships don't actually have their bridge/cockpit built into the model, instead the room is a separate model that is loaded when it is in use (such as the player being in the cockpit or the player video-calling the captain of the capital ship). You won't see the cockpit when you're outside the ship, unlike small and medium ships. As for where these semi-invisible rooms are placed on the Teladi capitals, I think they're placed in the round holes at the front.

      It's unlocked after performing the high-mass teleportation experiments and Boso Ta talks to you about potentially terraforming several planets. You can't build them manually; they're built automatically to ferry resources from the HQ to the planets being terraformed.

      The human models were there for a bit of humorous size comparison: if they were holding the fighters like toys, then the freighters must be huge to be towering over the actors.
      But the next video will have proper measurements, I manually measured all of the ships in Blender (all the exported ship models are proportional to each other and the Blender measuring tool is in the same factor system as the in-game distance calculations so everything should be accurate) and I documented the measurements here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1487ACI3f-Y5iHBG9dSBfNHA3sbS_zjm0ahgdnEPpQ0A/edit#gid=0
      I'll have to take more measurements for the Boron ships once the DLC releases, plus any potential redesigned vanilla ships similar to the Paranid E line of ships back at the 5.00 update.

      @@gooinabox3147 nice, For greater immersion, only 3 ships should be shown on the screen at the same time: 2 previous and 1 current, and the next one should not be visible. Then the camera would quickly move to the next one and again there would be a delay in the display. Be sure to have some kind of landmark next to each ship, something that people are familiar with in size (for example, the Eiffel Tower). To feel the dimensions of the ships. You can start for example showing with the size of a banana. Then a man with a jetpack. etc. The length of ships can be compared next to football fields. And the height - with a 9-storey building. Most importantly, the next size of the ship should be intrigue, it should not be visible. You can put a man with a satchel next to each ship.

    Just got into this game and really liking it. But why does it seem so unknown and underrated? If there were a multiplayer version of this would Elite Dangerous or Star Citizen even be things? Love both of those as well but I feel like I could give up the planetary stuff for the feel that this game gives so far.

      These type of games were never designed to be multiplayer. Its 4X game require from player to plan, strategize and gradually expand (preferably sitting in their headquarters or capital ship). Combat is quite rudimentary but the galaxy simulation is one of the best in genre.
      While ED has bigger scope and multiplayer, the simulation and market is lacking and player possibilities are limited to fighting, trading and exploring.
      Also please don't compare this to Star Citizen its an insult to a well made and fully complete game.
      As for popularity goes, games made by Egosoft tend to be released unfinished with lots of bugs but they have proved once again they polish them in time. Sadly only loyal playerbase can wait for that to happen.

      The main reason it's not as popular as elite and star citizen (basically wing commander) is because during the Era of space Sim breakouts with the original elite and wing commander, the original X series of games were more trading and space trucker focused rather than dog fight focused. And in the modern Era, the X series are single player. And for some reason when it comes to modern space Sims, people don't give them any attention if they aren't multiplayer. It's almost an unspoken rule at this point, that space sims need to have multiplayer

    Does the game already have ship roles like in x3? I remember the ship was just categorised into s/m/l ship at launch

      There is the small/medium/large/extra large categorization which mostly determines where the ship is built, where it can dock, and what sized surface elements it can use, but there are sub-roles within each size. For example, small ships have Scouts, Fighters, and Heavy Fighters (M5, M4, and M3 from the old classifications), and Medium ships have Frigates, Corvettes, and Gunboats. The roles I included in the video are mostly accurate, but there's nothing stopping you from using a fighter as a scout, or a Corvette as a heavily armed transporter (mining ships are the only ones specialized specifically for their class due to their specialized cargo bays and mining lasers/drones).

    Does X universe Ship mass make sense ? You know can space battleship with all those guns weight only ~1000 ton.

      Given that the fighter pilots don't turn into red paste across the cockpit glass and seats every time they hit the engine boost, I'm guessing there might be some mass/inertia dampening tech on most ships. But yeah, the official mass is a bit weird, especially looking at the Osaka vs. the Syn with the former being half the size and the latter being half the mass.

      @@gooinabox3147 on previous games the fighters would get splattered on the cockpit when colliding against capital ships.
      It was fun when it happened to enemies, not so much when you couldn't boost your own carrier without killing a few fighters.

      @@CristianoFerr Man I still remember the sounds of random dying boron and teladi when I let the AI drive the Mammoth halfway across the known galaxy. Especially with all the traffic going essentially on one line and the Mammoth being this huge brick.

      The weight values come from the game database values, and I believe the reason why they don't make sense in some (or most) cases is that the weight is used in game calculations for ship acceleration, drift, strafing, braking, pitch/roll/yaw, etc. rather than being immersive. It would be a good value to slide up and down if the developers wanted to make a ship more or less maneuverable.
      The next video will probably ignore the weight values and instead go for length. Fun fact: when I export the ship models from the game and into Blender, the Measure tool returns a value EXACTLY 1/100 the value of the in-game distance calculations. So for a Manticore I can measure a value of .57 meters from tip to tail, which aligns with its 57 meters in-game (which can be roughly measured with a spacesuit and a navigational beacon).

    I doubt that an M ship weighs only about 50 tons. I think more like 5000 tons.

      That is to much. 50 tons is like 30 cars. They would have a much smaller volume then a M class ship. But those are spaceships. Means build as light as possible. A 65 meter long Atlas rocket had a weight of only 21 tons (without fuel)

    The weight of ships are way off. Destroyers the size of multi-storied houses can't weight 500-600 tonnes. Ships the size of aircraft carrier can't weight 900-1000 tonnes. If you pull this info from ingame description that fine

      Yeah, I pulled most of the mass information from the in-game encyclopedia as well as the game files, and I think the mass is less for immersion and more for calculating ship velocity and turn speeds. The next ship comparison video will have the ship lengths instead.

    I love this game so much, but it could be at least a little bit more intuitive and easy to learn... Because the learning curve and gameplay hours needed to learn this game, is just too much insane =(

      People play it because it is hard and has a million controls and not other way around. There are two game concepts. In the 1990s every game was hard and you had to put a lot of work in to learn how to play it. After endless hours your reward was to finally master it. Nowadays games as easy as possible and give you for every simple task a little reward all the time. First concept was just for having fun playing it and beeing proud of what you have accomplished, second one is to be addictive as possible.

    Coming from X3:TC, while some ship designs seem better, a lot of them seem to be straight downgrades.
    Argon fighters, very weird, Nova's design is plain ugly now. Ides, Mercury and Minotaur look fine, but the rest of lineup up to the destroyer look like Teladi design rejects. Just bad. The destroyer itself seems very far from the previous design philosophy as well, but they at least look quite cool. I miss the long, rectangular (coffin-like) design of the old Argons.
    Paranid ships are nice, seemingly not much has changed.
    The same goes for Split ships, they still retain their sharp look from the previous game, although the Wyverns look like something that should belong to previous Argons.
    Teladi ships look okay until the capital ships come up, look big and bulky, ideal for their slow speed and big cargo bay they used to have. Not a fan of the design of their big ships, but at least they no longer look like Xenon ships.
    What the hell happened to Terran fighters? Their signature looks are completely gone, and especially the lighter ones are totally out of whack. (Rapier, Nimcha) Butchering continues with the bigger ships, only Katana still looks faithful to its old design, the rest is like from different franchise. Most ships until this point look like they will snap in the wind, gone are the efficient, fast and sturdy wedges with big thrusters at the back. They don't even fit with the stations now! Terran buildings looks very similar to X3, but the ships have completely changed. The rest of Terran capital ships are nice, although I miss heavily the X3's Osaka design. Where are the ATF battleships? Syn and Asgard seem like what ATF would have in the new game, but the rest of lineup is missing. Is ATF even still a thing in X4?
    Xenon, thank god they kept their fighter designs. The rest of it though, I am not much a fan of their arthropodan looks. Feels kinda out of place. Except the I, Xenon I looks cool. But I feel like they should have kept the looks from X3 and just polish it a little.
    Kha'ak - where are the bigger ships? Corvette? The destroyer and carrier?
    I miss the organizations, OTAS, Yaki, the Goner? Where are pirates with their ships cobbled together from multiple ships?
    Also, why are all frigates these unsightly, fat frogs? They all looks the same, even the Paranid frigate looks like lithium-ion battery has expanded inside it, it's too thick! And Split Cobra, what did you eat?! Argon frigate ship should have taken clues from the Minotaur, just bigger.

    Интересно конечно. Но впечатления не вызвал. Размышляя почему? Ведь задумка впечатлить масштабами, пришел к выводу. Вместе с увеличением размера кораблей, увеличивается и детализация. Поэтому все модели выглядят +/- одинаково. Ну типа одни делают на маленьких заводах, другие на больших. А так технология штамповки одинаковая. Это как обувь 32 и 45 размера. А под конец еще и такой ляп с антенами на звездных вратах. Будто провода висят как будто оставили прозапас. Так что 3Д дизайнерам скорее - чем +.

    So many Elite Dangerous names and look alike ships. But I say this in a positive way, X4 looks like a distant brother to Elite and imagine having both games combined into a single MMO.
    All the good parts from both games, combined into a single one.
    X4 is one of the greatest games, but needs desperately a multiplayer, we are in 2022, single player games should be gone or provide the gameplay to enjoy with friends somehow. At least like No Man's Sky.
    Imagine Starfield will be single player 🤦

      Single player games gone? No...just no. I have played many multiplayer games but I will always prefer single player games. But I agree that those who like multiplayer should have the option,as long as there is always the option for single player gameplay. That way, everyone wins 😎

      @@wasteland-werewolf Unfortunately not how it works. You can take Stellaris as a good example. Trying to make it work well in both worlds just leads to a mediocre experience for both sides. Of course it's ok to have multiplayer features in single player experiences, but a designer should always know which one for them is the priority and which is the 'tacked on gimmick'. In stellaris you can see as the design team changes, the focus slowly shifts and it in the end pisses both sides. A lot of things need to compromise when you want to satisfy both single and multiplayer conditions and I don't see why that compromise should be the go-to thing, when the gaming market is so saturated with titles.

      @@Washeek I understand what you are saying. Unfortunately not everyone does hence the comments like "no multi-player no buy". I enjoy both but I will always enjoy singleplayer more.
