Great video! I’m curious to see how you’re using all of that audio from the bridal party? I feel like I would do it if I knew it would be useful but I don’t know how I’d incorporate it
Good morning sir! Please keep creating videos. Your filming style has definitely inspired me to change the way I currently film my wedding videos. Before bumping into your videos, I was about to drop my videography business because of the redundancy. From one filmmaker to another, thank you so much!!! Have a wonderful day and God bless!!!
Thanks a lot for sharing! I did’nt even realized it is a 30 minutes video and I watched till the end without skipping it. It is insightful and entertaining. Thank you again for making this video! 😃
The calf strap tip was inspired! We have had trouble with our ursa straps slipping down the thigh of brides. I just put one on my calf and couldn't shake it off, and I tried pretty hard. Thanks! Going to use this!
Oh yea. A tip with thigh strap is to go about 3-4 inches above the knee. It seems to hold alot better but you have to over tighten and make sure the leg is fully relaxed and not bent when you apply it. (Assuming you don’t do this lol) The calf strap is also a great option. I used the leg strap for a calf strap for the longest haha
Nice to see another post from you 👍 Looking forward for more wedding BTS 😁 I had to special order the Deity TC timecode after your timecode video, and got the message today that it was finally sent from the US. Should take a few weeks to arrive and hopefully before my first wedding video of people I don't know 😃
Those Deity mics can take a beating too. I've had them drop several times and sure, they may get a few scratches here and there but they are SO durable which is great for me because I film a lot of barn weddings here in Humboldt so my gear is exposed to a lot of different elements.
The mini mount tip no one ever talks about👌🏽 saw one used by the sound guy on a Disney+ Documentary I worked on and wondered why no one talks about them! Thanks for the dope insight once again!
Great info as usual.. I need to get the thigh and calf wraps.. i would like to see how you mic up the brides? Ive only done the grooms and bestman so far.
Thanks for the video! It's always great to learn from the greatests, and your charisma never goes unnoticed! I have a question tho: have you ever had any issues with the XLR splitter? Thank you!
Would you advise investing in the tentacle sync system or deity system for timecode/ audio? I'm looking into investing in pro audio. I have an FX6, 2x FX30 and an A7IV that I need timecode synced. So would I be better off buying 2x Tentacle Sync E MK2 + add a whole bunch of Tentacle sync track E's + Sennheiser ME2's or should I invest in a Deity setup?
5:32... for making things crystal clear Justin, the output from a wireless receiver is a MIC out (with its specific impedance, rated in ohms) not a line out. Some receivers offer a spare LINE out for use on older preamplifiers or all-in-ones, like we can have in some old shops, malls, gyms, etc. I often had these in 30+ year old places, where the manager knows nothing about sound and took absolutely no care of his/her gear. In such cases, a LINE out from the wireless receiver can be a plan B, because the rack system / PA has no MIC input. Other than this, the output from a microphone receiver is the same as from a wired microphpone : a MIC out. Other major thing, related to hum and low noise occuring (when you don't want to). XLR connectors were designed to eliminate such noises by creating a "balanced" connection : a circuit compares the clean signal and the conveyed signal. If they differ, it means a distorsion occured somewhere and the circuitry will take care of this by "cleaning". It's plain and simple, and it functions ! Problem is conventional ( = mono) "Jack" connectors do not offer this, as they provide only two contacts (they are "TRS" type, when a typical XLR has 3 tips), so the "cleaning" can not be done. So, when you use a TRS ( = mono) Jack connector, you must expect rumble anytime. There is a way out though, but the thing must be considered as a whole : it's to use TRRS Jack connectors (also called "stereo" Jacks, and have the dedicated wiring + the dedicated socket. If one thing is not "stereo" (or TRRS), in male or female version, the balancing is lost and you may experience rumble, just like when using a standard (mono) TRS Jack. Sound systems go as video systems : they are limited by the least capable element. Sound systems must be seen as wine barrel... when one blade is too short, the wine overflows. Hope this helps.
Oh yes. It definitely does and I appreciate the detailed explanation. This makes a lot of sense especially knowing that the audio signal is as strong as the weakest connection. Thank you for clarifying it.
Thank Justin for this HELPFUL video. One question, please. I want to use Sennheiser MKE-2 Lapel with Viviana Beetle Lav Mount to avoid the mic being accidentally pulled off the mount. I know Viviana has 2 kinds of mounts: BEETLE for SANKEN COS11 and BEETLE for DPA6060. Which one can I use with MKE-2. If it does not work with MKE 2, is there any solution for this issue? Thanks again.
Yes I use a black one or a beige Sanken mic. Honestly, you can never really tell and when you can, it’s always when you’re up close. Never in photos or the camera. You’re more likely to see the cable itself running through.
Thanks for the quick reply! Was just worried since I do have a white tascam dr10l mic, but looking to replace it with the mke but only comes in black so was worried it could potentially run into issues with a white wedding dress. Only really worried about seeing black through the dress!
@@JuanHernandez-lb8vu the deity would basically plug directly into the zoom F6 and it automatically jam syncs. I’ll do a timecode jamming video though.
Hi Justin, didn't find your video about Hollyland Mars M1. Can you confirm that I can use a M1 on my shoulder rig to monitor and another one wireless for my assistant pulling focus? Can I use 2 monitor to communicate wireless? I need an answer very fast, I have a big projet next week.
I currently have 2 Tascam DR-10Ls with cheap lavs and I’ve been looking to upgrade my audio quality. I am planning on getting 2 sennheiser MKE2s but I’m not sure which recorder to buy. I currently don’t use time code but wouldn’t mind having it. Any recommendations?
I have the bptrx,s. I get a weird echo when monitoring audio with on in tx and one in rx like you mentions. Any idea what that could be? Oh and I’m late as hell to this video. It didn’t pop up in my feed. Fire video as always!!!
Thank you, Justin! This helps a lot man. I'm filming on Fuji right now for weddings but Blackmagic images are just so much better and I want to switch and haven't because of redundant recording on my X-H2s. I'd like some of your thoughts on this, if you have any workarounds etc. I really want to shoot on Blackmagic but the risk of a corrupted SD card is just an awful thought and I haven't been able to justify getting a Blackmagic yet for that reason.
Oh I totally understand. You could always externally record to a monitor though. Get the Blackmagic video assist and record the b raw externally and to the card in camera. If you use CFast cards the likelihood of them corrupting is very slim and I’d Recommend that if going to Blackmagic
Well, truthfully deity is 100$ cheaper, battery lasts twice as long, and the features are more too. So for that I’d say deity. Tentacle has 32bit float but as I mentioned here, knowing how to set levels correctly and understanding signal to noise ratio doesn’t make having 32 bit float a huge benefit in my opinion lol

Great question. I just tell them to go. The mic stays attached and there’s plenty of cable slack to support it. Usually I just tell them to move the cable out of the way.
Hi Justin, I have 6 Deity TC-1: 4 for my BMPCC6k, one for a gopro, 1 for the Zoom F6. I wanna have the same TC for sound... Can I inject the TC from Deity TC-1 in a set of 3 Deity BP-TRX? Do you have a video for that? I'm sorry but I don't speak very well english.
Hey. Yes you definitely can jam the timecode from your TC-1 to your BP-TRX. The TRX has a timecode menu and you would set the timecode to “free run”, choose the frame rate (it should match the frame rate of the TC-1), plug the tc-1 into the mic input of the BP-TRX, then you should see the timecode from the tc-1 appear on the trx, scroll to “JAM”, and you’re done. I’ll make a video about this so it’s easier to understand.
