  • Also sold as Zestril and Prinivil, the generic ACE inhibitor lisinopril remains a mainstay for treating high blood pressure. This inexpensive and generally safe compound successfully combats hypertension protecting both the heart and brain. Additionally it also reduces the likelihood of death after a heart attack and prevents kidney damage especially in diabetics. However treating high blood pressure requires more than medicine alone. Diet, appropriate weight loss, sodium restriction, exercise, stress reduction and avoidance of cigarettes remain vital issues deserving of attention.

Just got back from my Dr. Took me off it after 10 months. Over time I developed every major side effect, cough so bad the other day I threw up, extreme lethargy, waking up with a swollen tongue a couple nights a week, you name it.
8% of patients will have or develop severe allergic reactions as I did according to my Dr. Had I known all this I would have contacted him months ago. I just wrote it all off to getting old.

I’ve been taking 20mg daily for 1yr so far. Every morning I have a dry cough which lasts for about 30 mins, then is gone. But the fatigue & lack of energy/stamina is it’s worst side effect I’ve suffered. Small, insignificant tasks had me feeling winded! So I stopped taking it, the fatigue issue has disappeared to where I’m feeling much better & energetic. There are other “pril” variants, which have the same side effects, which I’ll avoid. There are several natural remedies, which control HBP & don’t have any side effects. They are worth investigating for all those with HBP.

We must ALWAYS read the inserts and do other research on EVERY drug prescribed. Herbs, as well. Yesterday was the first time I saw a new doctor. I was prescribed a drug for insomnia, came home and researched it. Called the doctor's office and told them I would not be back, because the drug is likely to cause heart problems.

I ended up having 220/100 with anxiety. So beta blockers have a better effect. I have had a "heart attack" according to ECG. Psychogenic shock almost. I'm on atenolol, prazosin, celexa, and Lisinopril. I understand the need for exercise.

@@jeffreydwightryanriley8308 great job for taking action man! I also take a garlic supplement about 2-3000mg worth a day. And it also helps me relax a bit. Some say it’s a placebo but I legit think garlic also helps circulation and there’s tons of studies. I still enjoy the foods I normally eat but I just make sure that I don’t eat it too often like I used to. When I was in my 20s I can get away with all that now that I’m late 30s about to be 40 I gotta be more mindful of what I eat. But not be extreme about it

This medicine gave me an uncontrollable cough. There was no mucus, no chest pain, or cold. I kept talking to my different doctors and they gave me all kinds of reasons why I was coughing including allergies. I talked to a resident and he immediately asked me was I taking Lisinopril and I said yes. He said you need to come off of that because it is a major side effect for many people who are prescribed it. I found that one of my neighbors was coughing for an entire year before she found out what the issue was.

I'm getting ticked off that these lisinopril vids never talk about the depressive/manic and anxiety side effects of these pills. Maybe not a reason not to take them but it should be mentioned. I've heard they are better than the calcium blockers, etc but after an ace inhibitor I know to go nowhere near those.
