- Also sold as Zestril and Prinivil, the generic ACE inhibitor lisinopril remains a mainstay for treating high blood pressure. This inexpensive and generally safe compound successfully combats hypertension protecting both the heart and brain. Additionally it also reduces the likelihood of death after a heart attack and prevents kidney damage especially in diabetics. However treating high blood pressure requires more than medicine alone. Diet, appropriate weight loss, sodium restriction, exercise, stress reduction and avoidance of cigarettes remain vital issues deserving of attention.
I wish i came across more excellent teaching doctors like this man
This man is a excellent doctor.
Excellent presentation, explanation, and easy to follow and understand. The Doctor appears to be very knowledgeable about this drug and it's interactions with other drugs and physical conditions of the taker of this drug.
Most articulate doctor on the internet in my opinion.
Absolutely
Thank you for taking the time to do this video. I have a better understanding
That was brilliantly put over, to the point without confusing jargon
Just got back from my Dr. Took me off it after 10 months. Over time I developed every major side effect, cough so bad the other day I threw up, extreme lethargy, waking up with a swollen tongue a couple nights a week, you name it.
8% of patients will have or develop severe allergic reactions as I did according to my Dr. Had I known all this I would have contacted him months ago. I just wrote it all off to getting old.
I’ve been taking 20mg daily for 1yr so far. Every morning I have a dry cough which lasts for about 30 mins, then is gone. But the fatigue & lack of energy/stamina is it’s worst side effect I’ve suffered. Small, insignificant tasks had me feeling winded! So I stopped taking it, the fatigue issue has disappeared to where I’m feeling much better & energetic. There are other “pril” variants, which have the same side effects, which I’ll avoid. There are several natural remedies, which control HBP & don’t have any side effects. They are worth investigating for all those with HBP.
We must ALWAYS read the inserts and do other research on EVERY drug prescribed. Herbs, as well. Yesterday was the first time I saw a new doctor. I was prescribed a drug for insomnia, came home and researched it. Called the doctor's office and told them I would not be back, because the drug is likely to cause heart problems.
I'm sure it's not " likely " to cause heart problems . Quit making stuff up .
I've been taking for 25 years. No problems
Been taking lisinopril for 5 months now and zero problems! My blood pressure has been controlled on average 115/60. Followed by good nutrition and weight training 4-5x a week. I do cardio 30min daily and my job is fairly active. I would say the biggest thing is watching your salt intake
what was your BP before drug
yeah what was your bp before the drug ?
@@JxT1957 it was sitting around 135-145/65 which is not the worst but definitely not ideal, tweaked my nutrition and stress levels on top of taking lisinopril and it helps me tremendously. The most optimal numbers will always be anything under 120 for top and below 80 for bottom number
I ended up having 220/100 with anxiety. So beta blockers have a better effect. I have had a "heart attack" according to ECG. Psychogenic shock almost. I'm on atenolol, prazosin, celexa, and Lisinopril. I understand the need for exercise.
@@jeffreydwightryanriley8308 great job for taking action man! I also take a garlic supplement about 2-3000mg worth a day. And it also helps me relax a bit. Some say it’s a placebo but I legit think garlic also helps circulation and there’s tons of studies. I still enjoy the foods I normally eat but I just make sure that I don’t eat it too often like I used to. When I was in my 20s I can get away with all that now that I’m late 30s about to be 40 I gotta be more mindful of what I eat. But not be extreme about it
Thank you you were very helpful doctor.
Thanks doctor
Thanks for ALL your videos, Dr. Landow.
How about just a diuretic lots of exercise and eating right
I am not going to take this anymore. I feel horrible
This medicine gave me an uncontrollable cough. There was no mucus, no chest pain, or cold. I kept talking to my different doctors and they gave me all kinds of reasons why I was coughing including allergies. I talked to a resident and he immediately asked me was I taking Lisinopril and I said yes. He said you need to come off of that because it is a major side effect for many people who are prescribed it. I found that one of my neighbors was coughing for an entire year before she found out what the issue was.
"Lisinopril Cough." They actually have a name for it. Drs. are behind on this. For 50yrs there has been a solution. Take ONE iron pill every day, at the same time as the lisinopril. Every drug store sells this stuff cheap. It will work the SAME day. I expect a lot of likes on this,
@@PatIreland Thanks! I was taken off of it three weeks later.
@@PatIreland How many mg of Iron are in the Iron pill?
Good to hear some facts on the meds , thankyou
Also, in many cases, causes hair thinning.
I have been taking it for years
Awesome advice thanks
I've been using Lisonopril since 2009 - 20mg - w/ Metropolol - since 2009 - 50mg - (both once daily) never a problem - WATCH YOUR WEIGHT - that is SUPER IMPORTANT - and walk daily - heck 15 mins will do ya - peace out -
Does this sleep
No mention of sugar? Fantastic
Just to let you know I am a 58 year old always healthy until the beginning of this year, my blood pressure were increasing. So went to my dr, which she placed me on Lisinopril , I continue to monitor my pressure for 2 weeks. I blood pressure would not lower, called my dr and explain what was going on, so she decided to have me increase my intake to 2 instead of 1. Within 3 days, my tongue started to swell then my throat started, rush to the ER went into a coma for 10 days, had to get a track placed in my throat, staff infection , upper respiratory heart failure , urinary track infection. I wanted to know what happen to me, I finally got one as my family were in my room. The Dr told use that ACE INHIBITOR
After some years on lisenapril for blood pressure I began to have hives with massive itching, Dr. replaced immediately.
Please do a video on metoprolol. Thank you Dr.
I was taking Edarbi 40, but after losing 75 lb my blood pressure was getting too low. So the Cardiologist had to switch me to Lisinopril first on 2.5 mg, then on 5.0mg. Dr Ken Landow thank you for doing this video.
😔🙏☺🙏
Mercifully
Merci
Education is always the key
I'm getting ticked off that these lisinopril vids never talk about the depressive/manic and anxiety side effects of these pills. Maybe not a reason not to take them but it should be mentioned. I've heard they are better than the calcium blockers, etc but after an ace inhibitor I know to go nowhere near those.
If you go to www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.html it give a full rundown of all the drug interactions/ side effects.

Live to watch the next episode 😂 what a jokester
4:45 .....sorry but the wording had me laughing my butt off......I take a heart attack every now and again myself....
Can I take Amlodipine and Lisinopril together?
Yes
I have taken Lisenopril lisinopril Esca very high and potassium I was on it and I went to get my 6 mouth check up and my dr drow blood work I got a phone call sat from my dr telling me to get to the hospital because my potassium was over 7 I was in trouble because it Aphex your heart to where you can have a heart attack
Worst headache ever! Maybe I overdose myself the first time I took it ( 1 pill first, after 1 hour another pill 10 mg). Shiiit I felt like in a vegetative state, couldn't do nothing for 3 hours, just watching the wall and trying to breath, ffff worst experience with this drug.
Video very educational..p.s. not racist wording just off a little🙃 God bless the world have a nice 😊
My elderly mother is on this she has some dementia when she takes this she gets much worse also nauseous and diarrhea. Is it possible that this drug can cause this? Her doctor chastised me for asking. Thank you
Many doctors think they know it all! Huge ego's! Can never be open minded or listen to the patient! Today with the internet we as layman can learn alot about medicine from professors that teach medicine im the finest of universities! But still don't challenge the wonderful, highly intelligent god like doctors or ask dumb questions!
Thank u, this is my 8th day w/out Atenolol, 2days ago started on Lisinopril, I was fine until I took 1st. dose. 40 mgz. Two hours ltr. it when down 2, 75 ovr 55, light headed, wk. And scared. Is this the Lisinopril or Atenolol withdrawals? Yesterday I only took 20mgs. Still read the same as the day before. This is my 3rd day this am was higher than normal, I took a 20 agian today. 3hrs ltr it's 121 ovr 78.
So doctors say , bp a little high we'll keep an eye on it. Then when its high now take drugs. Why not bp is a little high let me tell how to fix that. Say, 30 years before you have that first heart attack. I know doctors know this stuff cause I am a truck driver and now, I do.
I've been on 5 mg for two days, and I feel like shit. I feel like I just smoked two packs of cigarettes and stayed up all night.
@@sheiladaniels9552 For what it's worth I take Amlodipine now. Zero zode effects!
@@sheiladaniels9552 losartan was the first thing I was put on. My blood pressure was good, but every time I stood up my vision would start to go dark and I was so dizzy for like 10 seconds that I felt like I was going to pass out. It was bad enough to interfere at park. I stayed on it for three months hoping it would go away, but it didn't. Hopefully it works better for you!
My dad takes lisinopril and it's the ONLY thing that doesn't make him feel like shit, oddly enough haha. Everything else made him practically unable to get off of the couch.
Lisinopril is the worst thing I ever took. I was on it for a week and I was dizzy, confused, off balanced, my heart would palpitate, and one the final nights my whole body was twitching and numb. As soon as I stopped taking it I had none of these symptoms. BEWARE OF THIS DANGEROUS SCARY DRUG!!!!
@@chuteboxegod for people who it works for, its a great drug. It's the only blood pressure drug my dad can take, for example. Zero side effects for him.
@@clintparsons3989 Zero side effects for me too, and for many many people!
its a snake venom pepcid!!!
Watch your fat intake? 🤔🤔
Can long term use of Lisinopril cause severe shortness of breath?
I wanna know too. Cause I’m experiencing it. Maybe it’s my anxiety, idk
@queen sheeba yes I’ve been taking it at a very high dose 40 msg for two years. I’m only 31 but here recently I’ve had horrible anxiety, muscle aches, tingling, and spots in vision along with other crazy things! I hope it’s not the lisinopril I’m taking! Do you think it is?
