- I don't think this movie was as successful as it should have been, quite the opposite.
Sadly. I'm not typically a person that would enjoy a Pocahontas story, but the "real" feel of this movie is so captivating, that I don't even care is essentially a love story.
To me, it is a so much more!
It's a quite realistic window into the past, or specifically into the 16th century.
And oh yeah, It didn't hurt that Pocahontas really looked like a Pocahontas - beauty and all.

I completely agree with your video description! This film did not receive the acclaim it deserves....yet. I think the people of the future will appreciate it. There's so much information in it - styles of relating to life - nature - technology - the divine - the "Other" beings that do not look like you - and love, romantic otherwise.....also the plain joy we see the natives relating with nature is so beautiful - swimming, dancing, etc.
This truly was cinematography at its best, and supported by extremely talented actors. Everyone did a great job. Such a shame we don't get movies like this no more.
I love this film and I love Jamestown. It may not be historically correct in lots of spots, but overall I think it displays the time period rather well and it’s absolutely beautiful.
iirc the English colonists weren't actually saved by the natives during the winter, as by this time the king of the Powhatan confederation had already killed the leaders of Jamestown's allied tribes across the Chesapeake bay and had laid siege to the island, preventing the colonists from hunting or even leaving the fort to dispose of waste (they had also slaughtered all of their pigs which were kept on an island about a mile down river). The colony was eventually saved the next year by the arrival of the next colonist fleet that brought their numbers back up. Pocahontas didnt really have anything to do with the english until she was captured in 1613 and eventually married john rolfe to create a peace treaty between the colony and the powhatans that would last from 1614 to 1622, when the natives would slaughter a quarter of the colony's population and raze a number of settlements that had been established up and down the James River. She was already dead by then and the massacre caused the English crown to take over the colony from the Virginia Company and call for the extermination of the Powhatans as revenge for the 347 dead

That's actually a lie, your people never wrote history as it was and we know that through observing how you guys write history today. Most things you read are probably embellished or made up to cover the disgraceful behavior of the settlers. Pocahontas was too young to marry and she did not go willingly. She did not "marry" her captor, she was forced to be in a relationship with him. She died in england some time after arriving due to depression from sexual assault and abuse. Living under that stress weakened her body and made her more vulnerable to sickness.
I’ve read in several places that Pocahontas was a frequent visitor of Jamestown from the time she was a child, and brought them food pretty often. Not saying it’s true, just that I’ve definitely heard that many times.

Bad move. 500 years looking back
Not much would have changed. The outcome would have been the same (too many colonists arriving at too many locations), except, this was a good reason not to see the indigenous people as anything more than wild barbarians stuck in stone age. It created opportunity to open dialogue and try to find mutual understanding. I say it did pay off in the end. In history, most civilizations / tribes had been wiped out completely when encountering stronger opponent. Not to mention that I believe that most of them would prefer living in their current luxury of "modern" ways, rather than being still stuck in the tents hunting for buffalos and fighting off the other tribes wanting to conquer them.
And what have the natives done ? Still dance around their fire ?

Wrong decision
showing compassion to those who suffer is never wrong. letting them die wouldn't have changed anything but maybe angered the next group coming in.
