"Give up the half-ling, She-elf."
"If you want him, come and claim him."
Just two lines. Two lines. Perfectly portrayed the characters, conflicts, and strengths among Arwen and the Ring Wraiths.
She says it as she draws her sword, too.
Really one of the most badass lines in the franchise. Her delivery was perfect. Confidence and heart booming
That’s why she’s a badass!! She basically just said to the 9 Ringwraiths, “Touch him, and I’ll kill you!”.
@@G.S.Productions Yeah, something that the makers of The Rings of Power don't seem to notice. And now, they want to make a animated movie about an unnamed woman of Rohan while there are so many heroins no one knows about: Luthien, Idril or Nienor for example.
Well, she's the lady of Rivendell for nothing. She's the granddaughter of Lady Galadriel one of the most powerful elf in Middle Earth who's a royalty elf of both Noldor and Teleri. Grandchild of King Finwë and King Olwë. The daughter of Lord Elrond the King of Rivendell. She has the power to summon the river in Rivendell and she's using the old Elvish language on that scene.
Heard that Arwens stunt actress fell in love with the Stallion she was riding in this scene but could not afford it so Viggo Mortensen decided to purchase it for her out of kindness. What an absolute King
the true king
As an Englishman, can we get the house of Mortensen on the throne?
he was probably hung like a horse? ill see myself out.
i don think anyone else could have played the part of Arwen other than Liv Tyler, this is the best movie she has ever done, she also sings in the movie just amazing
And is astoundingly beautiful!
@@brianastle6954 Never trust Elves.
and no one else but Peter Jackson could have directed this astonishing scene
@@ricardoortiz4870 😂😂😂👍
@@brianastle6954 There's this joke where most elves in LoTR play Marvel villains.
The Fellowship Of The Ring is still my personal favourite of the trilogy, absolutely timeless.
Same. It’s a masterpiece
@Himed AFUCKINGMEN!

@@The_Beast_666 👍
Jackson's Lord of the Rings film trilogy is a classic.
One of my favorite moments in this is when she delivers the line “Nuroleim, Asfaloth!” It’s just desperate enough, she’s being very brave but they were catching up. Urging Asfaloth to hurry!! Was perfect
I mean, only in Elvish does "giddy up" sound so refined.
@@DarkArwen929LMAO
The beauty, the grace, and the subtle feminine power of Arwen manages to take my breath everytime I watch this scene. Absolutely brilliant delivery.
"She's got a sword!"
"You idiots! We've all got swords!"
"Wait a second, I'm *CARLTON* "
Lolol
Aladdin reference
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for the inspiration of my video.
Look at this scene and Liv Tyler, she literally gives off an aura of grace and magic. Now compare her to "Galadriel" in the Rings of Power and you'll see how far media has fallen. Amazing actress in an epic scene, in an equally epic movie.
This just goes to show how unimportant race is in these performances. Arwen (LoTR) an actress who is mixed race is seen as doing a better job than Galadriel (RoP) whose actress is predominantly Nordic.
If anything Arwen's combat scenes shouldn't have been cut.
What an annoying comment.
@@play-fool Nobody cares.
Absolutely
@@play-fool how is "annoying" ?
22 years later and this still gives me goosebumps. I watched this in the theater 13 times. I'm totally fine with the change they made from the book.
omg 13 times that is true fan
Only 13 times??? hahaha
What change?
Arwen was barely mentioned (maybe once) at this point in the first book. The horse (Asfaloth) is accurate, but it's Frodo riding alone after being sent off by Glorfindel. Effectively, they used Arwen in place of Glorfindel. @@lilaznkid4ever
@@lilaznkid4ever In the book its not arwen rescuing him, it was Glorfindel, a male elf. But Peter Jackson thought that 1) it was unnecessary to introduce a whole new character for just one scene and that 2) arwen needed more scenes to build her and aragons relationship
2:04 "Waters of the Misty Mountains, hear the word of power, rush, waters of Bruinen (Loudwater), against the Ringwraiths!” (Nîn o Chithaeglir lasto beth daer; rimmo nín Bruinen dan in Ulaer!)
I like to think that Arwen was calling upon the power of Ulmo to attack the Nazgul.
@@Shaynerification that's exaclty what she's doing
Thank you for posting this, I always wondered what she said and I really love the scene! What language is she speaking
I am glad someone fluent in Elvish tongue showed up here.
Thanks hon for telling us what she said.
Notice how she gets a scratch on her cheek - I think that’s the director’s way of telling us that although she’s magical, she’s also vulnerable.
shes also not pure elf, her father is Elrond half elven! (and yes, that IS his name!!)
This magic is so much cooler than most. No need for a staff or a wand, or drawing a divine symbol.. simply asking the mountains for aid in a dire time of need. Chilling!
it's not really magic. she is calling help from a valar...
@@ville9738 Definition of magic: the power of apparently influencing the course of events by using mysterious or supernatural forces.

I will never forget that moment. Watching this amazing scene in the theatre. So intense!
Lucky you😎
Red She Hulk foreshadowing
Beautifully choreographed and shot… to this day remains one of the most engaging horse riding scenes
I watched it twice at the cinema and I was always at the edge of my seat during the movie.
you say that as if you could forget any moment of that movie.
We all know you can't.
No one can.
“Give up the halfling, she-elf.”
“If you want him, come and claim him!”
Badass.
Favorite scene in the franchise. Liv Tyler absolutely owns it.
Elrond/Red Skull
Thranduil/Ronan the Accuser
Galadriel/Hela
Which means Arwen/Betty Ross will be “Taken by the dark powers, tortured and mutilated, a terrible, ruined form of life”.
She deserved to be 3rd billing on Fellowship.
Not the other two films. But among so many iconic scenes in Fellowship, this is probably the most iconic.
I think what I loved most about the series is how it truly brought to life how menacing and overwhelmingly evil the Ring Wraiths are. A perfect depiction from the books to film. I also appreciated increasing Arwen's presence in the story and explaining that she had to give up eternal life to marry a human.
Yes, but not a mere human, a king in the true sense of the word.
... and evil in general...☹️
@@tanyadixon3479 Are you implying King Elessar is evil
@@beeafuu not in the least. The choice was reflective of the good in him, in spite of the evil all around him.
Arwen is fully depicted in "The Tale of Aragorn and Arwen" from Appendix A. She has no role in the main narrative whatsoever, and the movies struggled to make her relevant.
“ Nîn o Chithaeglir lasto beth daer; rimmo nín Bruinen dan in Ulaer " “Waters of the Misty Mountains, hear the word of power, rush, waters of Bruinen, against the Ringwraiths!”

-Right. How about... WINGED LIZARDS?
I can’t be the only one thinking this horse chase was as thrilling as any car chase scene
Don't worry, you're not.
This is peak chase scene. For me noone come close to it.
This - Arwen with her sword drawn facing the Wraiths - could very well be a classic painting. Epic scene.
This is one of my favorite scenes from the movie trilogy. Many props to the horse riders in the chase scene - it really is stunningly well done!
For me it is actually 100% the voice effect, the way it is very otherworldly and the way it seems voices are added to her own, gives me chills
She did better at portraying Arwen in 5 minutes than they did for Galadriel in a whole series lmao
I hope you are referring to the portrayal of Galadriel in Rings of Power
NEVER TRUST ELVES!!!
The shoot at 0:48 just epic!!!!!
Man, the shoot the theme the light everything was perfect
Rings of power should learn that the world of lot is full of darkness not bright and shining
Who knew this improvised scene will become one of the most memorable and iconic scenes in LOTR!
It wasn't improvised whatsoever.
A little bit of trivia for this, the actors playing the Nazgul that got washed down the river sued because no one told them that there was an actual spell making real water crashing into them. They were in fear for their lives!
Haha😂
1:03 when erwin gave her horse the order to go faster her horse literally boosted itself this for me personally was the most spectacular 👌🏼 of this whole sence plus I love horses 🐎
Her horse channeled lightning right there, so badass.
“If you want him, come and claim him” might be one of the strongest lines in LOTR!!!
This scene never fails to give me chills
I remember watching this in theatres. Everyone was so into it and clapping
Yep every one was cheering and yelling "Woo hoo!" when the ring wraiths were swept away. I miss those days when going to the movies was an event
It is worth being a cinema fan for such films.
Horse literally changed gears and took off 🤣🙌
Vigor Morrison bought that white stallion and gave him as a gift to the woman who rode him in this scene.
When Arwen scratched her face on the tree that was Liv Tyler actually hitting one, she never broke character and insisted they keep the take and allow her to keep her scratch
She’s also Betty Ross in The Incredible Hulk.
This isn't true at all.
Eh, it was a stunt woman (Jane Abbott). Stop making things up.
And when she randomly spoke to the water they decided to keep it in
Live Tyler speaking Elvish with that voice effect brings this scene to an entirely different level. The audience just knows that she is performing incredible earth magic.
Still one of the best films ever made.
Agreed
that scream of the nine sounds like the customers by blackfriday sale opening
Or the raptors in Jurassic Park
What gets me about this scene is her horse is already running flat out. But the wraiths are closing in and she urges it to give her just a little more. Just a tiny bit more to get her to the river. It is then the white horse starts opening the distance, giving her the few precious seconds she needed to get to the river first.
This scene was beautiful. Even in times of danger .... Arwen moves with such Poise and Grace ...
look at her beauty ..... goddesses beauty .......... No one can beat her beauty.......
No one will never forgotten you .......... you are legend....... .. Love you forever Liv tyler.....
That is what one gets with 250 years of West African, Northern and Southern European admixture.
@@mightymulatto3000 West african bahahhahhhaha😂
@@jakehshsh2955 Pretty evident from Steven Tyler's lips. His reaction was "I always knew."
@@jakehshsh2955 Mostly from different parts of Africa and Europe. Senegal, Mali, Cameroon, Eastern Europe, Southern Europe, Germany, France, Spain, Britain. Essentially everything that ultimately ended up in Louisiana due to the colony changing hands.
I had a gut feeling Liv Tyler might have had some sub-saharan ancestry; perhaps due to the degree which those who are racially white in Louisiana have black ancestry; the highest in the country I believe.
Five minutes hadn't passed into my investigation before I found the interview she gave mounting the picture in her home.
01:02 the way she spoke to her familiar ❤❤❤❤ I love the relationship
This scene right here is why I watch LOTR every Passover. It’s similar to when Moses parted the waters.
Arwen's rescue of Frodo SHOULD have been in the book- I absolutely LOVE this scene!
In the books it was another elf. They changed it in the films to make her more relevant.
Completely agree
@@mossripalextechno6450 This scene fits in seamlessly and makes perfect sense, so you'd never know it wasn't a part of the original tale unless, you'd read the book, which in both cases, is Excellent storytelling.
@@mossripalextechno6450 It's one of the changes PJ made that I absolutely 100% agree with. Glorfindel may be an important part of the Simarillion and of the story of the elves of Middle Earth but he has nothing to do with the story of the destruction of the One Ring apart from rescuing Frodo here and attending the Council of Elrond.
Arwen has a personal connection to one of main protagonists of the story as well as an important supporting character. It made sense to put her in Glorfindel's place here.
It's the difference on whether you want to approach LOTR as a fantasy tale or as a mythological endeavour. As a tale, Arwen's inclusion is pretty good, putting it in stride with other stiries for contemporary audiences. As a Mythological endeavour, the replacement of Glorfindel is criminal, as it connects the story with the greater mythology, and signifies the active support (and involvement) of the Valar in the ring's destruction. Since PJs movies are clearly fantasy tales, she fits quite well.
the way she spoke to the horse and the horse went off... 🔥🔥🔥
One of my fave little moments - the sound design and visuals are incredible, you really get the sense that those words were the slight push he needed to go at extra speed, that even he is scared
I remember sitting in the cinema, watching this, they had a new sound system (in 2001). The sound of the movie, all the voice, everything (the screeching, the water, the whispers, the horses) felt like it's going through every cell of my body. Truly, a magical experience. They did a fantastic job!
This is hands down the most epic scene in LOTR/ Hobbit for me, remember watching it for the first time 22 years ago, still gives me goosebumps. Liv Tyler's performance in scene was absolutely sublime.
So Betty Ross is going to be evil in Captain America 4?
Great scene but can't top Gandalf and the Balrog on the bridge of Khazad-dum
It's epic but not Ride of the Rohirrim-, Lighting of the beacons-, Last march of the Ents-, Aragorn vs Uruks- kind of epic
Has it been that long 🤔
Unparalleled. Unmatched. Peerless in over 20 years.
Unforgettable moment in the cinema back in 2001. I was only 8 years old and remember it distinctly. The whole movie was a spell, a rich tableux of nature and music. The audeince was stunned.
Fun fact: Liv Tylor actually improvised the whole river magic spell. The fear you can see in the faces of the Nazgul is genuine fear from the actors who were not at all prepared for the floodwaters. PJ decided to leave it in because he was so impressed!
Tired meme/joke
Come on!
This is true. The only touch that PJ added in was the water horses in the rapids, the actual spell was genuine. 👍
Yeah ok, that's a bunch of lies, you're a fking troll.
If you can see the ringwraith's faces then I've got some bad news for ya 😅
Nazgul attended the prometheus school of running away from things before it was cool

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy : one of the best movies from time to time... 🤗🤗😍😍👍👍
Very fortunate to have watched this movie in theaters growing up. Arwen’s intimidating beauty in this film captivated me as a boy
God... This is one of the best movies scene EVER! So exciting, from almost desperate to absolute confidence. Her acting just a.. amazing
The best movie of all time
the best time for cinema was that
Even after all this time this still has pure magic in it Liv Tyler was perfect for this it was made for her this scene
She was so good in this role.
I remember watching this in the cinema with my dad as a child and it was this scene which made me fall in love with the franchise. I know now this was originally supposed to be glorfindel but arwen was a better choice for the movie. Liv literally gives off the aura, grace and bravery of the elves
One of the most amazing scenes out of any movie. Like something out of a dream.
One of the best horse chase ever :)
Never gets old. One of my favorite scenes.
Arwen flexing her Hero in this scene gives me chills every time. Liv was flawless. What an example of Strength, Selflessness, and Beauty.
1:02 I love how she speaks to the horse
that's right, that part It is impressive how the horse clearly understands her and begins to give his best in his gallop.............
Can’t imagine anyone other than Liv Tyler as Arwen’s face! The best she has done.
This is one of my favorite scenes in LOTR.
The contrast between the black horses against the white one and ofcourse, Liv’s acting, it’ just pure magic. Let alone the ambiance where this was recorded.
A skilled horsewoman! That was a spectacular scene!

beginning at 0:47 is one of the most epic moments of the entire trilogy, the music is so intense
Love this scene. In the entire trilogy, it's at this moment Sauron is closest to acquiring the ring, a single misstep and the ring is his. The entire future of the free people hanging by the thinnest of threads...
And he didn't find out until months later. Can you imagine them giving the report😅
True.
"Put this scene right up there with Moses parting The Red Sea then closing kit down on Ramsi and his men in ''The Ten Commandments.""
Arwen is one of the characters I feel was written better in the movie than in the book. She's just a doting bride to be pining for her man in the book. She's dynamic in the movies.
Watched this in cinema in 2001. Pure bliss.
This is hands down one of the greatest scenes ever created! It’s beyond amazing!!
I like this Arwen much more than the one in the books. In those, she's mostly beautiful, and that was just about it. This character suits Aragorns character much better, too.
I bet the word epic was invented to describe this scene
This was one of my favourite scenes she is so powerful
Una delle mie scene preferite su tutti i film che ho visto.
This whole scene gave me goosebumps!
anyone else counting the riders as they appeared/ i remember watching this in the theater when this came out, all nine riders, coming in in twos, absolute chills!! In the books frodo rode over alone, but brining in Arwen here was brilliant!!
I loooove the flying change Asfaloth does when Arwen bids him "Noro-lim".
Hey, ringwraiths, your quarry just turned to face you.
Oh, also, she commands the river with the power of elven magic.

One of the most powerful scenes in the entire trilogy, the part in 00:52 with the mix of screams, horses and music is breathtaking
I was 13 when this came out n was just in awe of it. Such a classic rendition of the timeless battle between good and evil n no matter how big, or small you are, you can make a massive swing in that pendulum.
One of those movies you’ll never forget. Thing I remember most about this scene from when I first saw it was I was amazed at the fact the Ring Wraiths hoods stayed up during the chase when I could never keep my hoodie up on my bicycle lol and second was the sound. Particularly the last verse of Arwen’s spell. That echo effect was dead on the money and my theater had literally had a massive sound system overhaul just weeks before this movie came out and man do I remember how her voice in that auditorium just, felt like her words when right through me and it was, well, something I still remember very well even 20+ (that’s hard to believe) years later.
As CinemaWins says: "Badass good girl"
