I am on Ozempic 0.5 doze. Diabetic for 30 years and taking multiple medications for other issues and 2 different insulins. Lost 25 pounds in 6 month and i do not need to loose more. But i inject only fractions of insulin that injected for the last 10 years. Have very good blood sugars, because i am not as hungry and less snacking. The food noise with Ozempic is much less. I have minimal side effects.

for the beautiful people using or considering to use ozempic or saxenda or any one of them their is no shame in using it never feel ashamed it isn't an easy way out you still have to workout moderately, eat good especially eat more protein so their isn't that much of a difference than doing normal dieting it just helps people with a harder time loosing weight so you are still doing so much work to help yourself to be healthy and you should be proud of yourself

This 'obsession jumping' is so very familiar. One month it is food, the next it is health, the next it is a relationship, the next it is our job. I could always "solve/cure" one and another immediately popped up. It wasn't until I found a trained OCD therapist and worked through an ERP program that I was able to genuinely change on the metal patterns that kept me trapped in that never ending anxiety cycle. Wishing ginger luck on this journey!

I've been feeling guilty for taking Ozempic and this series really helps. My whole family is prone to obesity and diabetes and I just was getting too close to that same fate for my comfort. I was also really struggling with balancing eating enough to lift heavy (I was a competitive powerlifter for a couple years) while still losing fat. I lost 10lbs myself earlier this year, but I was miserable and it was brutal. Ozempic has made the journey much better for my sanity.

thats awesome! thats literally the whole point of any medication - to make our lives more liveable and our quality of life better. it's interesting to see the overlap in public perception of ozempic and SSRIs, which I take to keep myself stable. both medications come with a lot of unsolicited remarks from people who don't understand that our lives would be significantly shorter or lower quality without these meds. we don't have to suffer the way our ancestors did - and they wouldn't want us to! i hope the med keeps helping you reach your health goals and you're able to break the familial pattern of chronic disease.

I’ve been on ozempic for 5 1/2 months and have lost 33 pounds so far. Ozempic was prescribed for me by my doctor because I have a BMI of 45, I have sleep apnea, elevated cholesterol (to the point where I needed to either loose weight or go on a statin) and elevated blood pressure (to the point where I needed to either loose weight or go on blood pressure meds). Interestingly my blood sugars are fine. So he, his nutritionist and I talked about Ozempic and that’s the route I decided to go vs. statins and blood pressure meds. I have zero side effects from taking 1 mg weekly of Ozempic; with 33 pounds down so far, my blood pressure has come way down and although I haven’t yet had my cholesterol checked recently, I’m positive that’s coming down as well because I am eating much better. Ozempic has taken away all the food noise going on my in head as well as those cravings for high fat and high sugar foods. I haven’t found that my obsession with food has morphed to another obsession such as alcohol or shopping, etc. My theory as to why I haven’t experienced any obsession transfer like some people experience after bariatric surgery is because Ozempic works not only by slowing down the digestion process, but also with the hormones that can affect my food obsession - at least this is how my doctor and nutritionist explained it to me. I know that a lot of people think that it’s much healthier to loose the weight without any tools (and the new weight loss drugs as well as bariatric surgery are a tool), but I am not one of those people. I have tried over the years (I am 70 years old and have been on many various weight loss journeys since I was in my early teens) and have never been able to keep the weight off; so for me, Ozempic is working. I no longer have that noise in my head and feel so much better.

The added anxiety and stress makes sense to me for a couple of reasons.
    1) this is something Ginger has been trying to do for years and has not successfully been able to achieve. Finally a goal she has had for so long is within reach. It makes sense that that would cause anxiety (what if I still don’t get there) but also the intrusion of perfectionism or previous eating disorder thoughts (some is good, more is better/ how can I make it go faster, how can I be more successful).
    2) She’s changing how she is physically showing up in the world. She’s drastically changing her outer look. Oddly being overweight can be a mental form of protection, in a sense it can keep people away. Armour if you like. So that can be subconsciously scary for some people.
    3) Also there will be so many thoughts and stories over the years of what I’ll do when I get the weight off or how my life will be once I am healthy etc. Being on the threshold of those expectations you have of yourself and your life is also anxiety provoking.
All of this will be subconscious, and there are obviously 100s of other personal reasons and triggers and beliefs play their own part. Equally none of this may be affecting Ginger and her anxiety may come from different places. We humans are a fascinating lot.

I know therapist of some kind will also help with the feeling that you aren't losing the weight fast enough. I have to constantly be reminded to trust the process and that as long as everything is looking good, then you're good. Im 5 months in and have had very few eating related challenges as Gingers expressed in the past few videos. Food noise is slightly gone, but I find myself instead wondering what to eat and not knowing what to eat instead. Ive lost about 16 pounds - that has been the most challenging issue as I expected to be down more. Im also working with a dietician and eat 1700 calories a day. I use Cronometer to track my meals - great app! I just keep hitting weight loss plateaus. My blood fasting levels have gone down, but A1C's have remained the same. I have noticed I have a little less anxiety, and still sometimes crave sugar, but cant eat as much as I would regularly (including heavy carbs). I didnt know Ginger was Canadian and in my city - nice to hear about other experiences and learn of some tips and tricks. Ill look up the meal service, as it would be nice to take that load off my plate. Appreciate you Abby for being realistic and reminding us that its okay if we cant do everything / arent perfect.

My doctor recommended I start Ozempic for weight and as a protection for my heart I was very uncertain even though he is very conservative about medications so I took his suggestion seriously Your calm, sensible discussions helped me to think through my choice carefully and I am now in my third week - still just getting oriented, minor side effects but adjusting to them and learning what triggers them and how to counter with what I eat still. Again, listening to your latest here wanted to thank you -- and to say I find the negative voices so odd. I have a theory about that. The negative voices don’t really care about you, although they are careful to wrap their bias and negativity in a cloak of caring and concern. They think that people have no right to take shortcuts to attain goals. They feel you only deserve to be happy if you put in the hard work like THEY did with diet and exercise. Screw that. I would say that you are having problems with eating bigger food portions at once because you are mostly used to calorically dense combos like things with cheese and meat, sweets fast food. You can bulk up your food with vegetables and protein and still be relatively full for a long time. A good breakfast and lunch are very important

I take this and have lost nearly 50 lbs in around 10 months. Its slower than some but I don't do the super low cal thing... Its been a gamechanger. My blood pressure is now optimal. I have more weight to lose but I know its a matter of time. I have better tools in my toolbelt and statistically without an intervention I was doomed. This changed that. Thankful for insurance and a doctor that have helped me!

My doctor has suggested ozempic and metformin and I just can't do it. I have absolutely no hate towards anyone who does. But my fear of side is outrageous. I was given a cream for a rash i had on my leg and it took me 2 months to even try it once. I finally used it for 2 weeks as prescribed and it worked - but then the rash came back with a vengeance- confirming my fears. I know this is a psychology thing. But i struggle with my weight and I know the risks. I take ozempic and i end up having a rare side effect that leaves me worse off than where I started i'd never forgive myself. I pray everyone finds the thing that works for them. 🤟🙏

I struggle with medication anxiety as well and have been prescribed ozempic, I'm pre diabetic and have PCOS, I haven't been able to lose weight myself for 5 years! My doctor talked to me about metformin and ozempic, I don't want either lol but I'm gonna try the ozempic.. of i can't lose this weight myself I'm gonna end up diabetic, and I definitely don't want that!! This medication was made for people like us to help us get to that point where we aren't pre diabetic and we come out of being insulin resistant. I know it's scary but I'm also scared of it's never getting better on my own. I've tried all the supplements, I've been on a calorie deficit, workout every day. We can't live in fear and let it control us, what if you lose 25lbs and end up become the best version on yourself you couldn't do alone? I couldn't forgive myself for not trying to better my life and future for myself and family. You don't have to be on it forever. But you have to start somewhere. 😊

Regarding the issue of anxiety/depression on GLP1, I have experienced this. I have spent some time thinking about this and I believe in my life it is related to the reduction in the activation of those pleasure centers in my brain that used to light up real big when I would eat certain things. It’s just not there anymore, not in the same way. I can’t make myself feel better with food because that doesn’t work like it used to. All those crappy feelings were always there. I am just having to sit with them way differently right now because the food as medicine impulse isn’t doing the job it once did. Rough stuff.

I considered it and even had it prescribed but then couldn’t get myself to do it. Something just shifted in my mind when I thought about injecting myself. The behaviors associated with ozrmpic were too close to my old ed behaviors. It felt like I’d be giving up control in a way. It prompted me to approach this in a different more mentally focused way and I’m doing ok with that. Maybe I’ll change my mind one day but for now it’s not for me.

Because as soon as ozempic is not taken any more you have to deal with it on your own and if the mindset is still the same, the results will be the same too.

You will be surprised how stubborn and sneaky some disordered eating patters are and how much your mind plays tricks woth you. I would say get it out in the open light and learn from your mistakes. Okay, I been wanting to share about this. I was adviced to try ozempic from my Dr. Because I was boaderline pre diabetic but mostly he wanted me to lose weight and said I'd be a prefect patient for it. My insurance did Approve it. I did mainly gain weight from taking on 2 jobs. My life changed from being a stay home mom. Working out 5 days a week and losing 70lbs on a plant based diet. Then taking on 2 jobs and going through life changes.
Within the 2 years i gained 10lbs which wasnt to bad . After 3 months of being on ozempic I didn't even lose 1lb it was so depressing for me. I didn't eat much, I was hardly hungry. Then I decided to give up my second job so I lost my insurance. As soon as I stopped ozempic I Instantly gained 10lbs in one week. And now I'm about 25lbs over since I got off pen. So instead of me being 10lbs over weight I'm 35lbs over weight. I never lost any weight during the 3 months on ozempic just lost my Appetite and it stopped me from gaining. Now I'm super over weight. And have to battle with losing what i gained. I'm back in the gym, and eating healthy so I'm trying to lose what I gained. It was the worst Decision ever. And it didn't personally benefit me in any way.

I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes two years ago. At the time I was at my normal, life-long weight of 120-125 pounds (I’m 65). I was prescribed
Levemir and started using a CGM monitor. My A1C came down to normal levels. In October it was at 5. There were 2 problems with the insulin. I was spiking to almost 300 during the day and dropping to below 60 at night, plus I was hungry all the time and I gained almost 30 pounds. The doctor decided I didn’t need the insulin. She prescribed Ozempic, starting with .25 mg. I just finished my second week. The first week, I was so sick. With nausea and motion sickness constantly. I also lost 8 pounds, but was pretty sure it came from being too sick to eat. Also, I think Ozempic has a mild diuretic effect so some of that might be water weight. This second week has been great. I felt so much better, my blood sugar levels remain steady and just above normal around 110-120. No spikes or sudden drops. I’m supposed to increase the dosage to .5mg today, but I think I’m going to give it another week. I can’t stand the thought of feeling that bad again and I want my body to get used to it. If my BS goes wonky, I’ll rethink it next week. In total, I’ve lost 12 ponds in 2 weeks. I can’t believe I feel this good again. Better than I’ve felt in 2 years. Now, if they’d just come out with a medication that lets me have a donut once in awhile I’d be really happy. Oh, one thing I wanted to say is that the nausea and motion sickness I experienced were somewhat relieved by the smell of peppermint oil. I carried around a little vial of it and it really helped.
I do have a concern as to what I’m going to do when I reach my goal weight. I’m too old to drop to much lower than 125 ponds. That skin will never tighten up. I have a hard time eating if I’m not hungry, but I guess I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it. I have 10 more pounds I’d like to lose and I’d just as soon lose it very slowly.
Thanks for this channel. It’s been very helpful. I don’t even know anyone with diabetes so I don’t have any place to ask basic questions.

I'm a diabetic, not obese, who has been taking Mounjaro for 9 months. It's very similar to Ozempic. I agree, ask your doctor to stay at the .25 dose as long as it is working fine. That's what I did for the first 5 months. I also have a CGM, and I could see that it wasn't controlling my sugar as well, instead of going to 120-150 after a meal, it 200 or more. So that was time to up the dose. I've since been at 5mg and doing great. My a1c was 5.8 at my last appointment.
I am losing weight that I do not want to lose, the good news about that, this is where donuts come in! No, really, if Ozempic works as well as Mounjaro, your pancreas will make the insulin you need to handle carbs, including sugary treats.
I forgot to mention, I was also insulin dependent (Toujeo and Apidra) so I had cut out all sweets and most carbs too. Now I eat normal amounts of carbs like my non-diabetic husband, just smaller portions. Yes, I used to have a couple of forkfuls of pasta with a lot of meat sauce, now I have a plate of spaghetti and meat sauce like everyone else.

    • @soofriends
      @soofriends 6 місяців тому +1

I forgot to tell you how I'm trying to keep the weight I'm at now. I'll make myself a whole sandwich for lunch even though I know I can only eat half. I'll get the other half out 2-3 hours later and finish it. I'll have a good sized bowl of stew for supper, finish half and put the rest away for later. Yes, 2-3 hours later I'm finishing it. You will find that you might need several small meals to keep up your calories. It will be eating when you're not hungry, which does seem wrong, but with these meds I'm never really hungry anyway! LOL
Also keep an eye on your CGM, you'll be surprised at what you can eat without your sugar going crazy high. I had 2 cookies today, my sugar went to 150. Before Mounjaro, 1 cookie would have sent it over 300.

Oh, no worries! I knew exactly what you meant and I can understand your concern. I’ve managed my diabetes for 2 years now with diet and the help of insulin. I know I can never go back to eating that way again. But it’s easier to stay with the program if there is some wiggle room built in. I’m responding so well to the Ozempic that I’m thrilled. My passion is needlework and I will protect my eyesight at all costs. I already have some damage and I’m not willing to risk any more by consuming carbs that I don’t even care that much about. Argh the idea of “easy way out” is so infuriating. Fat people already suffer in our fatphobic society. They are constantly told to lose weight at any cost. But then when a manageable way comes for them to do it, the same society is like “no no you have to suffer to lose weight”. Like suffering and going hungry to lose weight is the penance for being fat in the first place. They claim to want us to lose weight for our own health, but really they just want to see us being punished for daring to be fat in the first place.

23:03 Sometimes “ …it’s the only effective path that we have to take.” Yeah, as we age it can be frustrating when things that worked before (menopause) are no longer effective.
At 61 I’ve heard I need to flip my regimen and do mostly strength training with some cardio rather than the other way around. For years I thought cardio and eating right was enough.
Sleep is also huge. Insomnia in the last year has made a big impact in how I look and feel.
So don’t be afraid to change things up and if you find something that’s working, keep at it!

I read that glp-1s can cause anxiety in people who have an increased amount of orexin neurons - sleep neurons related to the hormone that regulates hunger and sleep. And I’ve heard of other people on glp-1s experiencing unbearable anxiety and thoughts of unaliving. It’s sad to see doctors write this off.

Abbey, you should do a video on Shallon Lester's ozempic journey... it's... something.

What i want to know is why is taking "the essy way out" so stigmatized itself? Weight loss is NEVER easy no matter how you slice it. If there was some new discovery (in a perfect world) where there was an easy way to lose weight, no side effects, improves (or doesnt effect) health, and is an ethical product/procedure being done with explicit informed consent... what does it matter if it is 'easy'? Do we need to punish ourselves for something largely out of our control (without help) like eating disorders, metabolic disorders, chronic illness etc.
'Weight loss journeys' always seem like some sort of weight stigma (fatphobic) religion... like you have to suffer and atone for your excess weight. Psh... okay Oprah 🙄 it isn't a competition...

No, we don’t need to punish ourselves, but we sure the hell feel the need to punish others if they aren’t doing what we expect them to.

Of course i do not know you, and of course you should discuss this with your doctors
however, what i had to learn the very painful way is that if you do not consume enough energy you will not lose weight or even gain it.
yes im aware how people will tell you this is not true, and any caloric deficit will cause a weight loss but it simply is not reality
And being in a caloric deficit for long can cause hormonal issues, and other health issues. So personally im not a big fan of ozempic instead of listening to your body.
So the question should be are you now consuming a healthy amount of calories? Have you had tests done to evaluate how many kcal you need?
If you exercise more, your caloric needs will also go up naturally. So talking to experts in terms of your metabolism imo is very important when you re on this drug, to keep a healthy balance of meals and nutrients.
Given that you cannot do intuitive eating. I am not on ozempic but after years of anorexia i never feel hungry, and so im kind of imagining what its like; and imo its super hard to eat healthy and consume enough energy when you neither enjoy food nor feel the urge to eat.
But im saying all of this without knowing you or your circumstances. Im just sharing the idea, this may not be the drug for you. Unless it is your diabetes drug of course!
I heard you can lose max 15% of your weight and then it will stop and your body adjust. So it seems to plateau with everyone at some point.
You said you didnt lose any weight in general. I also read that people who have diabetes and take the drug as a diabetes drug, do not tend to lose weight as much as those who take it for weight loss purposes - as the diabates mechanism "blocks" this out.
if you get into too low of a caloric deficit and start starvation, your body will probably not cooperate
I know myself and i am not lying, i been in a significant caloric deficit for over 10 years and in this time i have continiously gained weight. So i am not spitting bullshit in terms of your body will find a way, even if this way is CFS
This said, you should and hopefully did, a full checkup with your doctor to exclude other health issues like hormonal issues.
I wonder what your doctor said in response to you not losing any weight?

I’ve been in Ozempic (2.0 mg) for quite some time now and I don’t have any anxiety whatsoever. I think the anxiety she is experiencing could be sourced from other worries around her weight and past disorder.

I’ve been on 2.0 mg dose for a month. I feel so nauseous and full that I can only eat 1 small meal a day. I’ve lost 42 lbs so far. I still need to lose another 20 pounds for my diabetes.
Do you feel Full & not able to eat much? Would u mind sharing what u eat in a day?
Also I was not able to take my Ozempic shot for 2 weeks and 2 days due to the nationwide shortage. It came in today.. so tonight I took only 1 mg dose because they said I’d feel extra nauseous & achy having not taken it for 2 weeks. Have u missed doses due to shortage and if so what did u do? Are u taking the 2 mg dose? Thank you so much for your time & help.

4 months on - 1mg dose, 40 pounds down. Blood pressure down 70 points. Heart burn and gerd is such a struggle though. I inject on Saturday and am sick - legit flu - until Monday. Then each day gets better but essentially I’ve been sick for 4 months.
