I tried hungry root. If you order something specific and they run out of it, they replace it with any random item that costs the same amount of money and don’t refund you. They don’t give you any advance notice of this, so the boxes tend to be full of unpleasant surprises.

You articulate the significance of all nutrients in our diets exceptionally well, which underscores a crucial point about our relationship with food. It's vital to recognize that while nutrition is essential for our physical health, we should not allow the pursuit of these nutrients to become an emotional crutch or a source of immediate gratification. This perspective helps to highlight the fine line between nurturing our bodies and inadvertently fostering an emotional dependency on food for comfort or rewards. It's a delicate balance that calls for mindful eating and awareness of how food serves both our bodies and our emotional well-being.

People need to have a fundamental shift with how they relate to food, nutrition etc - otherwise this drug is a crutch.
I would think that folks would have a different view though, I'd think they would. I think some of these people haven't ever felt 'normal' with regard to food - it's easier to make changes, build new habits, when you have that actual experience, knowledge of how it feels to be that way. If that makes sense!
It's really about simply eating whole foods, processed to a minimum - Abby's great about ways to eat normally, & even incorporate stuff like pizza, pasta, cereal etc in a healthy way, doesn't have to be dry quinoa, kale smoothies, edamame, & mushroom 'coffee' for life, lol ;)
BTW, I'm talking here about people who don't have diabetes but are using it as a weight loss tool.
There's the gal Shallon Lester who says she intends to just stay on it for life! I feel for her, obviously she afraid to get off of it, that's some pretty deep issues there though.

I am on Mounjaro, 7.5 dose, and been taking it very slow getting to this level. It's been five months, and I have finally been able to eat "normally" or (better stated) healthily. Eating my protein and fiber in the morning, eating avocado and hemp hearts and spinach and all the good things...and loving it. No real side effects thus far. No constipation, no nausea, feeling fine. I am a bit nervous now that these shortages are ramping up because I am still morbidly obese. My diabetes is under amazing control now. Numbers in the low 100s versus 300s, which is incredible.

Both my doctor and my pharmacist went over all of that with me in addition to which, are there really any adults out there who don't know that you lose muscle as well as fat? I feel like that is pretty common knowledge, not a big secret doctors are not telling.

This drug has been a game changer for me. I've lost 40 pounds in a year. 40 to go. My A1C has lowered from 5.6 to 5.0. I have had struggles eating enough and getting enough protein. It's the big focus for me in the new year. I have also experienced some hair loss which I guess I know now is related to lack of protein. The biggest change for me has been the change this drug has done to my brain. It is amazing how more space I have in my life for other things without constantly being focused on food. It's very freeing and I'm so grateful.

I used to struggle with fruits and veggies, but for the last year I've done 1 serving of fruit for breakfast, afternoon snack, and after dinner snack/dessert for a total of 3. And I do 2 servings of veggies with lunch and 2 with dinner for a total of 4. It has made fitting them in simpler to follow this pattern and it has totally edged out less nutritious things like eating chips every afternoon (I still fit them in occasionally).

I’ve been on semiglutide since March. I started at 213 and I’m now around 178. I’m also going through menopause so that throws some hormonal chaos…😉. Equate protein low carb shakes have been a life saver. I do take a multivitamin. I think it’s actually helped with my anxiety/depression. If I notice I’m feeling sluggish then I make sure I eat because sometime my caloric intake was lacking. I did this through a doc that offered a dietician and other supports. At this point I’m so pleased with my experience. I’ve never by diabetic but I was afraid I was heading there. I’d like to switch to the oral.

I really enjoy your content; but I struggle to watch this one because I am a diabetic and I rely on this medication to survive and it's been hard to get from my pharmacy due to people using it to lose weight. I genuinely need it for managing my blood sugars and have been using this drug for years now to find that I can't access it most of the time finding my prescription delayed due to the shortages. I can't order it ahead of time since insurance doesn't allow that. It's good that many people who use it feel healthier and feel good about themselves but I wish they used an alternate method. I was thinking about this, too. I am not diabetic and I don't take Ozempic, butI do feel concerned for people who need the drug for strictly medical reasons. It kind of rubbed me the wrong way when she said that needy Ozempic for weight loss was basically the same as needing medicine for any other medical condition because I think there are definitely drugs that are CRUCIAL vs desired or recommended. We've seen this with other drugs as well. Some people need to take them for autoimmune disorders like Lupus but then someone says that one of them can help with something like COVID and all of a sudden it's hard for people that have Lupus to get that drug. Obviously it would be the best if there would just be enough drugs to go around for anyone who needed them, period. Probably the demand will stabilize and that will be the case. I hope so because I think everyone deserves to benefit from drugs. It's just that for some people it's more life-threatening NOT to have them. I take Synthroid every day, and I'm glad it's not an "in demand" drug because I would legitimately be in a bad circumstance if that happened.

@@susanjeffries5108 thank you; I appreciate that you understand from the medical need point of view. l understand obesity is life threatening in itself and I accept this is a proven treatment to save their lives; BUT its people who use it for vanity that get under my skin. I'm hoping doctors will be more discerning when administering because I really rely on it for survival. I've been in discussions where people have told me to just switch my medications. I've tried other medications but it takes your body some adjustment when you switch and my glucose levels would be so out of whack that it makes me feel ill so I went back to the Ozempic.

One note and I know that this was likely said off the cuff and not thought out but please Abbey don’t compare being overweight to having cancer. Yes, we should have medical intervention for illnesses that sometimes accompany being in a larger body but being overweight isn’t an illness if you don’t have hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, etc.

It's most likely related to the medication as the drug makes you somewhat uninterested in food. You have to put in a lot of work and monitor your calories to ensure you get the right amount. I am on it and if I don't track I can sometimes consume 800-900 calories/day based on hunger cues only. But she may be doing it intentionally to see more rapid results. Hopefully not though.

I'm so sick, I don't care how I look, but my body is quitting on me, and I need to do something. Between the mental health issues and the physical ones caused by the former, I kind of need this. I know it's not "healthy" to eat so little, but I was a dancer, used to exercise 3 hours a day, addicted to the high. Now I can't move, knees of a 70 year old my doctor told me at 50.

I never understood HAES cuz you wouldn't say someone whose over 600lbs is healthy the same way you wouldnt call someone severely underweight (like weighing 75lbs at 5'5) healthy either.

    • @stellarae8257
      @stellarae8257 4 місяці тому

i think HAES is misguided. it's good to teach people that being healthy can look many different ways and some people may be skinnier or larger or built whatever way and still be healthy. really it's about the fact that generally speaking you cant determine someone's health status accurately from a simple look at their outward appearance. that said, it is objectively untrue that any size of human being can be healthy. it's like they have the right idea sort of but they're focusing on the wrong thing. that's the problem with a lot of body positivity too. the solution is not "everyone is pretty" it's "everyone is worthy of respect and compassion no matter what size they are". even if i agree that people can be pretty/attractive in an infinite amount of ways, i think the focus is misplaced. ok rant over lol @@rosurin3646

Hair loss due to inadequate protein! Thank you for mentioning this. Over the years I have had hair loss off and on, sometimes so severe I wore hairpieces. Tried many things, some a bit successful. No doctor mentioned to increase my protein for this. I learned that to avoid post-menopausal sarcopenia, I should increase my protein to about a gram per pound a day. Bam!! My hair started growing like gangbusters and is fuller than even as a teenager. I make a raw organic plain whey, eggs and mct oil vanilla or chocolate ice cream sweetened only with monk fruit liquid that I process in the ninja creami to get 66gm a pint. Such a treat and an easy lunch. Add a half pound of ground beef or venison with veggies for dinner to get the rest. I prefer two meals a day, and still manage to get enough protein now, with this strategy.

I'm eating 150gr per day. A huge go to for me is Greek yogurt (145gr) with a tablespoon of no sugar added jam, a tablespoon of Chia seeds, and enough Splenda. About 17-18gr of protein, lots of other good nutrients, and it tastes like dessert with low calories. Top their snack or dessert. I also use Greek yogurt as a replacement for sour cream.

This surprised me too. 1000-1200 calories is basically the magic number for smaller women to lose weight. But Abby (and others) rail against this all the time as not enough calories for a toddler. Not it's OK as long as you lose at a sustainable weight but flat just not enough calories. I am having a tough time reconciling how she's ok with it for ginger since that's all she's hungry for. 7 months isn't a short amount of time either. I was prescribed Ozempic for type II diabetes: A1c 11. After 6mns, blood sugar didn't come down at all & I only lost 10 lbs. I feared gastroparesis because my stomach was like a rock. Hair loss, vomiting, and horrific constipation were completely intolerable. Nutritionalist dietary guidelines: low glycemic veggies, lean proteins, limit starchy carbs, exercise, water intake. I still had cravings for sweets and salty foods. (I'm 58yrs, 180 lbs @5'1", and menopausal with diabetes.)
I stopped Ozempic because I became homebound with constipation and nausea.
Off Ozempic, I follow the dietary & exercise guidelines without the hard stomach, vomiting, & constipation. Blood sugar is down to under 190mg/dL after meals and 80-150mg/dL fasting. I take metformin and my insulin dose is stepping down. Weight loss is stubborn because I cave to cravings for salty snacks and no desire for protein foods. Maybe Ozempic made me accept a healthy diet.
How does diet with exercise play into weight loss and diabetes management with & without Ozempic?
Do others on Ozempic not have the traumatizing constipation and nausea?

The reason 1200kcal/day is appropriate for a toddler is because a toddler is supposed to DOUBLE in size, thereafter continuing to grow rapidly. A toddlers intake is not supposed by any means meant to maintain their tiny size...a toddler needs to eat at a surplus to grow. An adult who also consistently eats double calories they need to maintain a healthy size will also eventually double in size. An adult has completed their growth cycle and an unhealthy surplus will yield unhealthy long-term results. The two situations are not same; this oft repeated bit of information is disingenuous. Now. Whatever an individuals maintenence may be, 1200 is the reccomended *minimum* for a woman in a deficit to get the essential nutrients she needs while losing weight. Below that it becomes difficult to get the appropriate amount, again, *while* safely losing, which I do believe Abby said. Multiple times, just kindly. The reccomended amount to safely lose starts at 500 below your current maintenance; for most, that is well above 1200kcal, especially if your starting point is overweight. I believe what this exchange was trying to put out, again so compassionately that some of us almost miss it, is that it is impossible *not* to lose weight in a deficit, which Ginger is certainly in, and there is NO NEED to have such an agressive one in the high of ones weight loss finally being sucessful. Have a bit more protein and healthy fiber to keep healthy in body AND in mind while you continue your journey. That was my read at least. And I (hope?) it was Gingers - I'm wishing her all the best.

I want to start by saying - people can do whatever they want with their own bodies and this has helped her reach her goals, she seems happy, great.
30 lbs in 30 weeks is about what is possible on your own by cutting calories and moving a bit more, for most people. So it doesn’t seem faster than normal weight loss strategies. I’m also hearing that results may not sustain after coming off the drug, just like normal weight loss. So while ozempic may help because it’s kind of guaranteeing you won’t quit, it isn’t doing anything that revolutionary, it’s not a magic bullet for weight loss. I also am surprised at how little this woman is eating. Under 1000 calories a day? Someone of her size should be able to eat more than that and still lose a lb a week with a little movement. Part of me wonders if she’s not losing more weight because she’s not eating ENOUGH, and there must be side effects to not getting proper nutrition, protein, etc as a result.

For people who don’t struggle with metabolic disease it’s impossible to understand how someone can eat 1000 calories and not drop a considerable amount of weight rapidly, but it’s also the same reason why people struggle to lose weight “just eating less and moving more” like everyone else seems to think is so easy.

…i normally have a very short attention span, but i was fully focused on this- such a wonderful and informative video- ive been on ozempic for 4 weeks and have lost 20lbs- i still have a long way to go- ozempic really has helped my dependency on food almost non existent- and when i do crave a no-no, the stomach quickly fills you AND reminds you why you stopped going that route- your stomach becomes so sick- I know we shouldn’t need the reminders, but i admit that I’ve needed them, due to previous stress eating- for me ozempic slaps you on the back and says, nope… we’re not doing this again- i am so extremely grateful- so far i have no symptoms, except the very few times I’ve tried a no-no (soda/burger/fry, etc)- idk, it just guides me- takes my hand and keeps me focused- this video tremendously helped me in regards to remembering protein and adding colors to my diet- i definitely want to keep the weight off, but in doing so i must continue to learn a positive relationship with food- and ozempic has become that blessing for me- phenomenal video ladies. thank you!

I took Ozempic, but decided to stop taking it after only 8 weeks, because I had so many side effects.
I felt light headed and was extremely tired all the time which impacted my life very much in a negative way.
I wasn’t as productive at work, couldn’t be bothered to play with my kid, had to take naps in the afternoon to get through the day and stopped working out completely because I didn’t have the energy for it.
This is of course the opposite of what you want on a weight loss journey and it slowed down my weight loss significantly. I was already thinking of stopping Ozempic when I got a cholecystitis (inflammation of the gall bladder), which is a known/possible side effect of this medication. I stopped immediately because I got so bad that I was at risk of loosing my gall bladder. I’m glad Ozempic works so well for some people, but it definitely can have severe side effects.

Ive had gastric bypass (my hubby is on Wegory) and hair loss due to metabolic shock from losing weight is probably the #2 most common side effect (with constipation clearly taking first place) for both. Unfortunately, there is no pill, potion or shampoo that will stop your hair from falling out or slow it from happening. Eating your protein, as you mentioned, and taking good quality vitamins will make your hair grow back in more quickly WHEN YOUR BODY IS READY to grow the hair back. It's usually a 2-4 month transition. It clearly sounds like you need to be your friends dietitian! If she has one, they are not doing her justice and you could just hear how much she was learning in just one phone call with you! Are you a registered dietitian or just a nutritionist? Im just curious, because you are very knowledgeable and passionate about career.

She is an RD... I agree with you about Ginger needing to hire her. I was taken aback by her what I eat in a day and knew Abbey was going to say something about it.

I had a lot of hair loss on ozempic and so did a lot of the people I know. My hair dresser said she saw it in almost all her clients who were on a glp-1.

Had a friend who tried it but gained. Not for everybody, though when it works, it can be really great. Wishing Ginger the best with her efforts and thanks for sharing IRL experience

Ive been on it for 11 weeks and lost 21 pounds so far. I have also been drinking a lot water, eating healthier overall, being more active, and practicing portion control. My bmi was 34 and now its 31. My back issues have completely went away and I feel less weighed down and better physically than I have in years. I do still need to be a little more active but im working on it. My goal is to lose 13 to 33 more pounds which will put me at 170 to 190. I used to take other otc diet mecicine many many years ago and was able to keep the weight off when stopping. Im hoping I have the same outcome with this drug. 😊

Should ask her doc about bariatric induced telegen effluvium (common in vsg and bypass surgery and maybe adding a little topical rogaine) as a stylist I saw this a lot even with phentermine users
