    Thanks so much for loading this video! I wish when I started my build, I had found your video first!
    ORTURS destruction manual was impossible to read, and there are too many videos out there with people babbling on and skipping parts. :D
    Through your video I discovered my limiter switch for my Y axis came assembled backwards. Quick fix with 2 screws and flipping the plate over and re-installing. But Anywhoooo..your wonderful soothing voice with the awesome accent saved the ORTUR from flying across the room. :D
    Thanks again from Canada!

    • @disignscdn
      @disignscdn 2 роки тому

      Hmmm.. I’ve found mixed reviews on how the limiter switch is actually suppose to go..according to
      ortur.tech/documentation/olm2pro/OLM2_Pro_User_Manual_EN.pdf
      The limiter is on the bottom of the plate so that the highest party of the wire will come into contact with the chassis. Sorry if this was already mentioned …you have a lot of comments to go through :D

    Great video. I began watching the Ortur 2-2W assembly video... close but not for me. Your video answered all my questions. Almost all the Ortur videos I watched warned me that the manual sent with the machine was difficult to follow. How true. The photos were too small on some details. If I could put parts in backwards, I will, and I did!

    Interesting.
    I have a 405nm laser of similar power and I can attest to the beam profile being the major controlling factor when it comes to cutting things (aside from the light spectrum of the diode). I wonder what they're using for the collimator and focus lens.
    It's also probably using the same laser diode.
    They are often found on Ebay, pulled from laser diode arrays found in laser projectors. Generally they are tested and binned. I bring this up because the one I bought was rated at 6.4W optical output. This means you could probably ramp the diode current up by 20% without doing it any damage or reducing its lifespan.

    After PC is done (still needs an LTO-8 drive =$3000 = will be awhile) next on the shopping list is a $4500 3D printer. I can't really think of why I'd need a laser cutter or engraver, but if I did I'd probably just get a 1200W one that can cut 12mm steel in 1 pass. Granted that's about 100x more, but you get what you pay for.

      I’d get an CO2 laser. A large format will cost you $2k USD. This unit is only a 5.5 watt which is pretty underpowered. I think it can be done but you’ll need lots and lots of passes.

    If you painted a tile black and engraved over it, would the engraving appear in white?

    • @krisknowlton5935
      @krisknowlton5935 2 роки тому

      I can attest to the fact that it will not. I have never heard a good explanation as to white paint works better than black paint, but it does. I saw one video where a guy used cold galvanize paint. He said that worked way better than the white paint. However it is imperative you engrave outside or have a real good fume extractor because the burning cold galvanize paint puts off some really nasty, toxic fumes.

    • @JohnDoeTheTroll
      @JohnDoeTheTroll 2 роки тому

      @@krisknowlton5935 That's strange to me. You would think it would remove the black paint as it does with the white. Thanks for responding.

    • @krisknowlton5935
      @krisknowlton5935 2 роки тому +1

      @@JohnDoeTheTroll the tile is actually white and then you paint them with white paint. The laser burns the white paint turning it black making the engraved image. You cannot remove the image. You cannot scrape it of with any kind of sharp instrument. It is absolutely permanent. I have looked at the resulting image under a microscope and cannot tell you exactly what happens when the laser hits the white paint or why it works better than black paint. One would think black paint would absorb more of the light energy of the laser and make a darker image but I don't find that to be the case. In fact one would presuppose that white paint would not work at all as white objects tend to reflect the blue laser. It is even very hard to cut white paper with a blue laser. Coloured paper, no problem. There must be something in the white paint that absorbs the light energy of the laser. I'm usually pretty good at figuring out things but this has me stumped. It may be the titanium oxide in the paint but I just don't know.

    • @krisknowlton5935
      @krisknowlton5935 2 роки тому +1

      You are correct. But all the videos I have seen you can't cut much more with K-40 lasers than this laser can. Also you can't engrave as big an area as this laser (with LightBurn you can engrave as big as you want with this laser because you can easily move the whole laser around ).ua-cam.com/video/n__saOKVupA/v-deo.html
      I currently have the LaserMaster 2 "15" watt laser and have done way more with it than I ever expected to. To me if it is a choice between the K-40 laser and the LaserMaster 2Pro for the same price...well...I purchased the LaserMaster 2 Pro.
      Another nice feature of the diode lasers is there is no mirror alignment or mirrors and lenses to replace. This is not a laser that you spend more time tweaking than engraving with. IMHO the LaserMaster 2 Pro is way more bang for the buck. By the way, I used to believe the same as you.
