Rokker Rokkertech single-layer motorcycle jeans explained

  • We love the Rokker brand. And we particularly love their Rokkertech jeans. We’ve tested every jean out there, but in our view there’s nothing to match the Rokkertechs. With a slide time of over six seconds, these jeans are 50% more abrasion resistance than a leather trouser. But they look fantastic and they’re lovely to wear. For many people a Rokkertech is their favourite jean; off or on the bike. In the early days, there was just one style. But now there are four different colours and three different fits. And that’s before we look at the ladies jeans. There are loads of waist sizes and four different leg lengths. The number of permutations is huge. Some will need the straight fit. Some will want the slim fit, although not everybody can get into a slim jean! If you can’t, you might need a tapered slim. It’s all a bit perplexing. You need to be guided by people who know these jeans. Frankly, that narrows the field, because nobody carries the number of jeans we do, and nobody knows how to make them fit like we do. Armour can also be an issue, because the armour pocket on the Rokkertech is not adjustable. But, if we have to, we’ll unsew the armour pocket and move it up or down. Come and see us, and we’ll also make sure we get the length dead right; again both on and off the bike. And all such alterations we do for free if you come and see us. So, as you might have realised, getting these jeans right can be a challenge. Which is where this review comes in. In it Chris deconstructs the Rokkertech jean. He, with some input from Sara, tells you pretty much everything you need to know about them. If you’re ordering online, this guide should be of help. Of course, when a pair of jeans costs this much you really want to get them right, and whilst we hope this guide will help there’s still no substitute for paying us us a visit in Guildford. Come see us, and you won’t leave here until they’re right. This is not a short video, but if you’re spending £350, then 35 minutes doesn’t seem an excessive amount of time to invest in the decision.

    This presentation sold me on the Rokker Raw which I have now worn for a nearly a year and they come highly recommended. I bough mine in my usual Levi's size and I have invested in a D3O level 2 hip protector, which fits snuggly but gives you a somewhat feminine shape in the hips ...
    PS: I am wearing the jeans on my "Alpinestars Charger Pro Backpack Review" video.

    My regular shop jeans tend to wear out between the legs within 1-2 years of daily use.
    How long will these hold up?
    I would love to wear these all day commuting and in the office. Thanks for the great videos!

    Hey Chris. Does Rokker make a moto jean that is waist high? Too many jeans are low rise and I end up with plumber butt when I sit on my bike.

    At 5:26 you mention you've tested every single layer jeans on the market. Is there any reason you don't stock Bull-it Jeans? From what I see, they use Covec which has a high melting point i.e. you won't get burned during a slide, as you would Dyneema which has a high level of heat transfer. Is there anything you don't like about Bull-it jeans or Covec material that we should avoid??

    What percent of the jean fabric is UHMWPE? What is the weight of the jean fabric?

  • @dokmartin3072
    @dokmartin3072 4 роки тому +5

    Very informative video, Motolegends!
    Still not sure what to think of UHMWPE though. It's the toughest fabric on the planet... until it gets hot. The melting point is 134°C, it starts to fall apart way before that. How that matters in a slide would be good to know. The cambridge machine is rough but slow, friction heat is minimal. The Darmstadt machine on max on the other hand might be more revealing.
    Looking forward to that AAA rating.

    • @windyrun7979
      @windyrun7979 4 роки тому

      This is an excellent point. Also, it would be good to know how much heat is transferred to the wearer of the jean when sliding - will your skin get burned? Heat resistance is one of kevlar's big benefits.

    According to Bennett’s, you are much safer with double layer jeans.

    • @gingergomoto8787
      @gingergomoto8787 2 роки тому +2

      Concerning that two independent tests come back vastly different results. Who is right, the manufacturer or Bennett’s…..
      Best thing would be for motolegends to send a pair of jeans for independent testing themselves but even then there is a conflict of interest on the results….

    • @alrightdave6135

      @@gingergomoto8787 I am happy with my 2 pairs of double layer hood jeans. I am a motolegends customer and happy with them. But the claims for these single layer jeans just don’t add up. The test that made most sense and was independent, showed the hood lasting twice as long as the rokker. Case dismissed. Waiting for a response from the chap in the cap. I bet he is fuming.

    • @gingergomoto8787
      @gingergomoto8787 2 роки тому +2

      @@alrightdave6135 I also own both hood jeans and these jeans. I fully accepted that the single layers I tend to use for just chilled riding on the basis that the testing ML quote for my jeans was just over 4 seconds.
      What concerns me is that ML quote 6 seconds for the raw jeans when the test Bennett’s did came back with 2. That puts them roughly a third less than what ML quote on their website. If I use the same math to my so called 4 second jeans then they would likely last less than 1.5 seconds on the same test (potentially).
      I’ve got nothing against ML I just want clarity so I know what risks I’m taking and what I should expect from my £300 protective jeans…..

    Given the price difference between Rokker and Resurgence, what do you feel is gained as far as protection? If Resurgence can produce a AAA rated jean, is there something specific about the Rokker that lends itself to be considered safer? Serious thanks for all the work you put into bringing us useful, in-depth information!

    • @Motolegends
      @Motolegends  4 роки тому +2

      I don't think I suggested that the Rokker jeans were more protective than the Resurgence jeans. Indeed, with a slide time of 10 seconds the Resurgence New Wave jeans are notionally somewhat more abrasion resistant. I suppose, in the real world, one has to ask whether one needs a slide time of 10 seconds, given that the Rokkertech slide time of 6.4 seconds is already 50% greater than that of leather. In terms of price there is not a great deal between them. The new CE approved version of the New Wave jean is £300; the Rokkertech is £350. The Resurgence jeans are certainly heavier and most people find them less comfortable to wear than the Rokkers. They also have quite a wide leg that suits some people but not others. In conclusion I would concede that the Resurgence jeans are technically more protective, but what we always found here in the shop was that most people preferred to take the Rokkers even though they were more expensive. Ultimately, I think it may come down to fit.

    Great jeans but if I'd known how fiddly and difficult the button fly would be I'd have bought something else. After a couple of hours on the bike one needs a necessary break - and one does definitely not need to be grappling with awkward buttons in order to take that break! Why on earth Rokker think they're a good idea is beyond me.

    • @RutgerMulder
      @RutgerMulder 4 роки тому +2

      I'd take buttons over a zip any day of the week. When you are used to them they open faster than a zip! It is more premium and less prone to material failure unlike zippers. In the end it is personal preference and it is good that people can have a zip option now. But i can't stand the bashing on the button fly as if it's a pure bad thing that no one likes.

    • @horspiste
      @horspiste 4 роки тому

      @@RutgerMulder I have buttons on a pair of Rohan jeans and they are fine - the problem I find with the Rokkertech jeans is that the material is much stronger and slightly thicker than standard denim, and the button holes are a tight fit, making the buttons really difficult to insert and to undo (especially in a hurry!), particularly when you are already encumbered with heavier than "normal" jackets etc. There's no way that I could open these faster than a zip, kudos to you!

      Don’t be silly. No clothing retailer is more obsessed with safety than we are. Bennetts’ video is nothing more than a bit of political, muck raking. It is nonsense. Bennetts’ Social is basically ‘click bait’ designed to sell you more insurance. They want to create a debate to increase viewership. Have you noticed their elation when scientists discover animals frozen for millennia in permafrost? That's because extracting DNA, bacterial disease(s) and food remnants is easier and productive.
