I agree with Chris with almost everything, but I must add my personal take since I own both and wear them quite a lot in different temperatures and conditions. However, my opinion mostly matters for cruiser and naked riders, since my helmet is always in the wind, no windshield whatsoever.
    1. C5 is WAY quitter than N3 - the neck roll is interrupted in N3, and that's the end of story
    2. The sun visor is better in N3 - it is bigger
    3. The visor is better in N3 - bigger field of view, the pinlock adheres better, for some reason, also the closing sistem in C5 is HORRIBLE, you can never close it properly with one hand just from one side - the end click is a total failure, I ended up not opening the visor anymore, I just open the helmet from the bottom. The N3 is way better in this aspect, opening and closing the visor is perfect.
    4. The front vents are WAY better in C5. First of all, there are 2 of them, and you can chose what to ventilate. Secondly the profile of the air distribution is better in C5, in N3 you can always feel too much in some spots. Thirdly, the N3 front vent system is a joke, is a total failure, you can never safely open and close it with thick gloves, it is the worst feature from the whole helmet.
    5. The comm system is almost identical BUT, the C5 control is actually a remote, with it's own battery, so guess what? I run out of it and took me some time to figure out why it is not working anymore. Plus, it is annoying to listen all the time to "remote connected". However, the buttons on the N3 control could be more easy to differentiate. I cannot find the front one easily, so I guess is easier to operate the C5 with gloves, it's power button is in the back, and you can tell easier which button is which.
These are my personal differences, but mainly, both of them are awesome - the best flips on the market.

So far very happy with the C3Pro bought from you approx 2 years ago. After using Shoei lids for over 13 years before switching to Schuberth I fully agree that the quality of both brands' lids is on par. Just like you said Chris - the right fit is the key here! Best regards!

Can’t say my C5 experience has been that great. The visor would only lock on one side making it both noisy and leaky. Not ideal on an 1800 mile trip up to and around Scotland in the wettest summer I can recall. Being used to my previous Nolan with a central visor tab, I found myself pulling the chin vent off on more than one occasion too. Fortunately I didn’t drop it as I’m sure a replacement would have a stupid price tag. The fix for the visor tabs was a nail file to take a little off the length and it now locks on both sides. Still leaks though. With the flip up just walking along the helmet is very creaky sounding which doesn’t strike me as very premium and probably more like my old Caberg. I like the fit and comfort of the C5 but I think for the money it shouldn’t have issues with leaks or visors that won’t lock. For finer weather I have the M1 Pro and that is a firm favourite. Weirdly I would even say quieter behind that big visor. Probably because of smoother airflow and a good seal despite being open below. Of course not coming with a pin lock it can fog a bit in the cool air when you aren’t moving but not much of a problem. Next flip for me will probably be a Neotec unless the C6 proves to be perfection incarnate.

I agree, the C5 is over rated, mine with the coms added now sits in the bottom of the wardrobe (paperweight) and was replaced with a Scorpion Evo Tech, the one that flips right over to the back, this Scorpion is absolutely awesome, in fit and function. IMO its a 5 star lid, the C5 1 star.

I did forget to mention the chin vent issue, which turned out to be user error, although still a design fault. The problem was, is, that when you lift the chin bar you have to depress the release button on the underside with your thumb. If you then place your finger on the vent in order to squeeze the button, you can pull the vent off. Yes, it’s a fault, but once you know the problem, it can be avoided. CP

15:47 comment is my exact circumstance, coming from a current Schuberth C4 XL the new C5 XL is enormous, the L is way too tight so I have this week bought a Neotec 3. I contacted Schuberth about the issue and it took them 2 weeks to respond without any wise words. As you have said Comfort & Fit is what trumps the decision. Great video as always.

Nice comparison, chap with the cap 🙂 I bought the C5 last year, and it's been great. Comfortable, and quiet(ish) although I always use ear plugs. Crack position works well, easier to open visor a little, then push down to the crack position (no drugs). Not overly keen on the visor tabs being off centre, Shoei design is better. My previous helmet was the Concept (the 1st gen of this flip lid), but I hadn't ridden for about 20 years so missed many iterations! The M size fits perfectly straight out of the box, so didn't need any tweaks. When you hold the straps apart to put it over your head, there is a creaky plastic sound, which I didn't notice when trying on the Neotec 3 a few weeks ago- just out of interest. The Neotec 3 did feel a little more solid too, and again seemed to fit well. BIG difference is the price, with Shoei being considerably more for both the helmet and comms, maybe as it's a new release? Having said that, would probably go for the Neotec 3 if money wasn't a concern.

I’ve been sticking with Schuberth since the C3. I’ve also gone through two C3 Pro’s and an E1. Sold the C5 after a season. The front chin vent cover went off and had to be replaced. The visor got slightly bent after regular opening it one handed by grabbing the left side (as opposed to the central part on Shoei) and wouldn’t seal properly any longer as it was bent. Then there was a squeaking plastic sound when pulling the cheeks apart when putting in on. Some more random plastic rattles and one of the cables at the rear comms unit slot came undone and I had to pry the cover open to reconnect. Some moisture got into the mic assembly during a rainy ride and the mic cracked for a few days until it properly dried out. In short, I might have gotten unlucky with the C5, but all these quality issues are simply too much and I’m switching to the Neotec. I’ve had the Glamster for a few seasons and it has held up really nicely.

Worked in a motorcycle gear store for a couple of years and have already seen too much stuff break on the c5, broken visors, broken plastic parts in the visor mechanism, we already had to send multiple for warranty or replace the entire visor mechanism, also the adventure variant peak just feels plasticy and cheap and has too much free play in my opinion, never had so many (almost none) warranty issues with the neotec 2 and now the neotec 3 which I have myself feels much more solid and not as cheap as the c5 in my opinion, there are just to many gimmicks on the c5 for my taste, also the button for opening the chinbar is much easier on the neotec and custom fitting is much easier and cheaper, so yeah in my opinion the neotec is much better but of course for some people the c5 will be better

  • @Fernando90054

You are absolutely right when you say that the fit is fundamental. The right fit for me is in general the shoei helmet design…so, in this case, the shoei Neotec III, but I also feel that the Schubert C5 besides being too tight …to the point that I got headaches after a while using it,- the truth is that, in deed, it is a quieter Helmet. Less wind trying to get in. So, I concluded that due to the more oval shape of my head, made me feel more comfortable with the shoei, but the Schubert is slightly better on wind noise canceling, if I can say that about wind protection of a motorcycle Helmet. Thanks for the useful and handful video. It’s very clear and explanatory ✌️✌️

Hi Chris, your review is spot on, I have just bought the Shoei Neotec 3 and it’s a great helmet, but it is prone to steaming up in cold weather and at slow speeds. Also the central visor locking button is almost impossible to open on the move with winter gloves on. Other than that I am very happy with the helmet.

A question more about the communicators than the helmets... the missing factor in your presentation. If you consider the combo of helmet and matching communication device, that could make a HUGE difference.
    1. Can it pair with Cardo mesh yet? My brother has Cardo, and making connection proprietary instead of open will decrease the enthusiasm factor, as Cardo is trying to make theirs open.
    2. I have a C5/SC2 combo and the speakers aren't very loud. Is the SRL3 better than the SC2? It'd cost me about $300 more to get the Neotech3/SRL3 combo compared to another C5/SC2 combo. I want to know if the SRL3 is that much better.

How is the bottom protection of both helmets to heavy rain? I have Neotec and C4 Pro. Neotec protects the bottom part of inner liner while Schuberth does not. The result is that Schuberth in the rain absorbs humidity via bottom part and humidity expands inside inner liner. A detail which may be useful for those who are riding also in the rain.

I just ordered the C5, hopefully it fits. I think I have more of an oval head so I'm a little worried. It's on sale online for a few hundred less than the NeoTec so I jumped on it. No local stores carry Schuberth at all and there are very few Shoei helmets around and none of them are the NeoTec 3.

I upgraded from the Neotec 2 to the Neotec 3. Positives with the Neotec 3, I like the central visor opening and the sun visor drops lower. Higher safety standard. The front vent flows air on the outside of the breath guard not inside. On the Neotec 2 with the breath guard fitted too much air was channeled directly onto your face. It's slightly quieter. Negatives, it's heavier and the Neotec 2 was already heavy. I wish Shoei would make a Carbon option. It doesn't have a small first crack visor position like the GT Air has. It's sits closer around the chin probably to reduce noise but I prefer the Neotec 2. I found the Neotec 3 to be a slightly smaller diameter fit around the head causing light pressure points. I have a thinner liner on order. See how I go, I can always go GT Air 3 which fits better and is lighter. I don't think Schuberth's suits me being rounder. The C4 I had allowed too much noise in with my head shape otherwise it was a great helmet.

I tried to join the Bennett Facebook group but admins rejected me (no reason, very weird, feels unfriendly tbh) so I’ll ask a question here: is the visor height on the Shoei Neotech 3 shorter than the C5? I tried the Neotech 2 on on my bike and had to tilt my head down to see the nav6 (just below the Speedo). I couldn’t live with that on a long trip so I got a Schuberth. It was super comfortable though and that’s the only reason I didn’t get it. If the Neotech 3 is talller /more visor up and down range, I’ll probably get it.

The C5’s visor is dog 💩. I’ve had 2 visors replaced and to try and get the pinlock to work is hit and miss. It’s not just me google it the C5 has had a lot of issues with this. Build quality is poor compared to what I’m used to (Arai / Shoei). Won’t buy another schuberth my next flip will be a Shoei.
