How I stumbled onto finding your channel I'll never know...but I'm so glad I did. I played guitar until I lost the use of the right side of my body from a series of strokes. I just bought a Juno DS88 and am so inspired by your ability. Thank you very much Robert. You are truly an inspiration to me. Blessings from Kansas~
Hi Steve, thanks so much for your kind words it really means a lot. Sorry to hear about the strokes, I'm really glad you are inspired to play piano, that's wonderful!
Love this! So amazing and melodic. Love the beautiful chord progressions and guitar lead. You definitely have your own sound and style, would definitely buy your CD!
Hi! I'm now 45 yeas old, playing piano since I'm seven....I really like what you are doing and hope you keep it up! I kinda wish I had those chops and influences back then so consider yourself lucky! Please keep it up! I'll be following you!
Thomas Scrase Ahhhh yesh! Mishter Thomash Schrase. Soooo! Anyway... thanks very much - glad you like the piece! I'm having a great time thanks! Hope you're still enjoying Manchester as well :)
NEW ALBUM! robertdimbleby.bandcamp.com/album/change-of-scene Hey All! My 3rd album of original music is here. 9 tracks of groove based instrumental jazz fusion. I started this album at the end of sixth form so it's a been a while in the making, but I'm very proud of it, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it! You can download a digital copy of it from bandcamp at the link above for 3 pounds, or you can wait a few weeks and I'll have hard copies that I'll be selling for a few quid more! Finally, thanks to Anna Nichols Pike for the wonderful artwork! :D Enjoy, let me know what you think! :)
I LOVE THIS PIECE YOU HAVE AN AWESOM GIFT CHERISH IT,BY THE WAY THE DRUMS WERE COOL BRO ONLY PEOPLE THAT DO WHAT WE DO WOULD CATCH THE VERY VERY SMALL TIMING ISSUE YOU SOUND GREAT!
OMG at first I must say, I'm glad about what I'm seeing! I was a bit afraid, seeing you again the first time after your start into math in Oxford, to see you exhausted and unnerved from the hard side of your new life there. How glad I am, I can now see you so cool, relaxed and enjoying! So far about what I'm seeing. And what I'm hearing now ... soooo, dear Rob, given the fact, that you all drive on the wrong side of the road ..... :D ..... is that what I'm hearing now, very correctly and accurately composed! That strange fact, that you love music and math the same, makes you - theoretically - a little "English Bach". "Fusion" - if I'm bang on target - was a little emotive word for me as a side of Jazz, going down into a boring, melancholic ground zero, a kind of "background music for some snob restaurant". Since I know your music, I think, I must have misunderstood that or you are really about to create a completely new sense of this style. OK, one fact is clear: not that possibility of power, emotion, hard contrasts here, as so well known from your non-fusion- pieces. Instead of this your fusion-pieces are more a kind of "thema con variazioni" and rife with lots of ornaments: slower ones, faster ones, flying ones, stumbling ones... for me it's still a big question mark, why you love this fusion style so much: a style that limits you in the number of your ways of expression. And nevertheless! No one way seems too narrow for you for not to fill it with such happyness and so much drive! Please betray to me, how do you do this!? :) It makes me laugh a bit all time again, how accurately you list all smallest details of the equipment you used. :) Maybe there is a little German gene in your DNA and you don't know anything about? :D But then ... next time you have to declare the exact lable and origin of the chair too! :D So, Rob, thank you again for bringing me fun and joy with your amazing music, I hope so, you will never stop!
I'm glad that you're glad! University is treating me very well, this first term has been one of the best 8 weeks of my life! Ah that's interesting what you thought the word "fusion" meant! Jazz Fusion in its simplest explanation means a combination of jazz with another genre (not pure jazz). For example, this piece I would more accurately describe as Jazz-Rock Fusion perhaps. Although nowadays Fusion normally specifically refers to a mix of Jazz, World, and Rock music I would say. I'm very pleased you enjoy the happiness in this piece! Haha, how silly of me to forget to mention the chair! ;) I make the list more for my benefit than for other people's benefit, as it's useful for me to remember what equipment I used! Thanks again for the kind words! :)
Good evening folks! EXCITING NEWS: Last year I cofounded a Neosoul/Funk/Jazz/fusion band called Pangolin. Last month we played a session LIVE at SoFar Sounds London which you can watch here!: ua-cam.com/video/iiBZu-LslHA/v-deo.html . The song "Double Consciousness" in the video is based on "Puzzle". Enjoy
Uma boa harmonia, um bom tema leva a condução de um bom groove de contra baixo, eu sou brasileiro mas aprecio um bom jazz de nível avançado, estudo um monte vídeos de músicas americanas.
Another great piece Rob!!! I only started playing last year, but I can stare in awe for hours at how good your techniques are!!! If you have any recommendations for a beginner, I would very much like to hear them. Hope that University's treating you well!!
David Bussell Thanks very much! I think an important thing is to try and learn pieces of music by ear, that way you get a natural grasp for harmony etc.
+Bashanvibe Cheers! Hopefully in the next for months or so but I can't promise anything. Check out my bandcamp page (link in description) for my previous two albums. Thanks for the interest!
Thanks very much! Some jazz fusion(ish) artists that I really enjoy listening to are Snarky Puppy, Allen Hinds (a great guitarist), Yellowjackets, and also Jason Rebello (though, he doesn't really compose jazz fusion, his pieces have certainly inspired lots of my jazz fusion compositions). Thanks for watching!
Robert Dimbleby Yellowjackets are great. I've heard a bit of Snarky Puppy but will have to check out the other two you mentioned. I'm sure you know of Weather Report, but check out Tribal Tech too; although they can get pretty heavy! :)
Listened to "Nice place" earlier, your guitar skills have improved noticeably since that song, and I suppose they have improved further since this one :p
your sensitivity n playing is very good, and your nuances and expression are great too. but i wished to hear more a holdin melodic theme. from my 17 years in music composition, from classical , oriental, scoring, writing, etc doing over 2000 piece of advertising and songs.i can only advise you to focus more on making a theme and more grasping melody that wil distinguish you from many people who just improvise without nice theme. cheers
I love your composition very much. How do you practice your groove? Are you playing the piano while thinking about some rhythm theory or regulation?I love jazz and groovy music. But, I have difficulty in rhythm......I have only learnt basic swing styles.
***** Thanks! I got better with groove and rhythm quite gradually. I found that boogie woogie was helpful to develop a good sense of groove and rhythm.
Hey great stuff! Was wondering why you use the m-audio 88 at all when assuming you can already use the casio p150 for all your midi controller capabilities for plugins?
alexliutube Hi there! I use the m-audio 88 for many reasons. The first is because it allows me to have different sounds on two different keyboards. Secondly, the m-audio is semi-weighted which is great for synth solos/organ sounds. Also, it has a pitch bend wheel which is useful for the synth solos. Thanks for watching!
Doug Fender Thank you! I listen to lots of different bands. At the moment I'm really enjoying Snarky Puppy, D'angelo, Jason Rebello, Dave Brubeck, Gregory Porter. But the list goes on really! :)
Hey Robert, brilliant work. you're pretty inspiring. I wanna start learning playing the piano, would you recommend the Casio Privia PX-150? What are its pros & cons?
+Sinan Şenocak Thanks very much! I'd definitely recommend it. The action is very realistic - it's one of the best I've tried, and that includes nords, rolands, yamahas etc. The built in sounds are not the best, but they're certainly not bad. I think the main Con is the built in speakers - they're not very full sounding, and they distort if you turn the volume up and play loudly, but if you have the volume not too loud then it's fine.
Very nice writing and playing. Multitracking is really difficult to get the feel and timing right - I know because I do it myself a lot. My only advice would be to practice all the parts with a metronome - and make sure all the parts are as rhythmically precise as possible from the ground up. To me, even though the drums sound programmed, they sound a little off, so when you play track after track, they are all a little off on top off it. I know I'm being a little picky here, but to me, the timing and feel is the only thing that separates you from a true virtuoso. You're young, it will come,Just when you practice, think more about the timing than the notes - it's the most important thing when it comes down to it. Very impressive though and I look forward to listening to more of your work!

and how do you do the drums?
I normally play the drums using my midi keyboard and program in any extra fills afterwards
