I believe she skipped the line "and I was stupid", then repeated the next line again. However, the mistake sounded really good.

Keep coming back to this poem as a recovering alcoholic. I'm only a few days sober and it's really hard. But I have work to do that I can't do when I'm intoxicated.

As a recovering alcoholic who's trying to stay sober right now, DO NOT STOP. Keep being straight edge. I used to be and I wish like hell I stayed that way.

It's so f'ed up that in our society, you're the odd one out of the bunch if you DON'T drink yourself to oblivion every weekend.

what's wrong with being straight edge? i have plenty of straight edge friends. we don't pressure them to drink. they don't pressure us not to. it's called mutual respect. it's sad she is treated like an outcast for her lifestyle.

So I'm 14 and turn 15 in 2 months, and no one understands why I don't want to drink or do drugs. Out of all my reasons for not drinking (such as "it's illegal" "I don't wanna be more vulnerable to guys who don't know what consent means") my friends tend to question one: I don't want to disappoint my parents. They say "they won't find out" or "they don't have to know" "I'm sure they did it when they were your age". I can lie to my parents about certain things, but I myself have absolutely no desire to drink so to do it when my closest friends, my family, and myself don't want me to... there's no point. I don't want to "just try it in case you like it" because I won't like how guilt feels. I never want to drink.

I wish I could be that girl. Unfortunately it may be too late for that. Props to any and everyone who has chosen a straight edge lifestyle. I envy you greatly.

Yolanda Jerome Unfortunately once an addict, always an addict. It's just switched to a new focus. Whether it's drinking, drugs, food, working out, it doesn't matter. An addict is always addicted to something.
