the other day my manager put his hand between my thighs... twice. I am a loud and proud feminist with a mouth like a machine gun but it's moments like that when I freeze. my whole body tenses up and I can't open my mouth. please stop taking my silence as consent because I can't take anymore. thank you so much, this poem hit so close to home.
Emilio Sandoval oh you think we have an HR department? its a restaurant, there is no HR department. and who the fuck are you to come say shit like that to someone when you have absolutely no idea who I am, what I've been through, or what you're even talking about in general. go fuck yourself dude.
The majority of women will at one point experience something like that. The idea that we shouldn't have to experience that is pretty much the feminism movement. In the simplest terms. I agree, thats awful but its not as simple as one person telling someone. We grew up with this being a possible issue, and its not easily solved.
I fond that interesting because I am the oppsite...like I am a quiet individual but when I feel sexually threatened I buck up and get loud and verbally ferocious...and if it doesnt stop i get physical
Because they looked like her father, her brain processed it as it being her father most likely as she was falling asleep, thus allowing her to relax and sleep as if not by a stranger
From the start I was into it and nodding along but the line "too woman to mean something" came and tears sprung into my eyes. I need to hear more from her.
i was 12 years old when i was followed home by a boy a grade above me, i went into my house and he followed me in without me knowing a few minutes after. i went into the restroom in what i thought was the privacy of my own home. as soon as a walked out i was met with an unfamiliar face staring back at me. he stepped closer and tried to kiss me. i didn't know who he was, i froze under his touch. to this day, i still feel his hand on my neck, his lips on my own, his legs touching me. i remember seeing blood splattered on his face as i beat his head on the floor and called the police. i started to develop moderate to high levels of paranoia and panic attacks.
These speeches are so powerful. They infuriate me. I used to automatically think "I wouldn't let that happen" But then the moment came... And I froze. I didn't say a word in fear of what might happen next. And my silence was taken for consent. I knew it wasn't but, what do I say? "Hey stop" Just to be ignored or called weak or easy to get? So I pretended that it was ok. Until I drowned myself in tears and layed in my empty bed. Crying myself to sleep just to wake up and put myself through the same excruciating pain as the day before, and the day before that. Then one day I came across one of these and just kept watching them. Now I know not to make the same mistake. Even if it isn't even for me anymore. Do it for the young girls, who were never warned that they would get catcalled hit on and touched on by the atrocious rude monsters we call men. Or even boys. We aren't toys. We aren't weak. So I fight, and I'm winning. 💪🙂 (I Might delete)
I like that she uses the metaphor "gasoline" bc as a victim i literally feel like my body is on fire when im in the middle of a flashback like extreme discomfort and every nerve firing and screaming but other times its just waiting on the surface to be triggered
this poem gave me chills towards the ending. the way she presents herself and talks reminds me of my 7th grade english teacher which is to say that she reminds me of a very powerful woman
To be honest why are you assuming that? Don't speak for other people just because you want to seem more important that you weren't one of the _two_ people who said something about her highlighter. Why does commenting on her make-up mean that they didn't take something away from the poem? There are 10,000 people that also didn't make a comment about the actual poem, just to remind you and give you an example to make you think differently, what you're shaming them for is talking about make-up. You're literally making people so unnecessarily one dimensional.
She is amazingly strong. Strong enough to talk about it and in such a bold way. The people talking about her looks should shut the hell up. You are in fact part of the problem. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with how she looks. She is gorgeous but her mind makes her the amazing person she is. Any woman can put on a mask of make up but to have a beautiful mind and brave soul is rare. It's over due to be more concerned about people and less about appearance or shallow bullshit that is temporary. I love it due to how bold she stands and the passion behind it. 💜
at first I wasn't sure how to find it but the more it got to the end the more intense and "passionate" (idk if that's the right word to use but yea) and I really liked it, it was really good!
I've always felt our women are to be respected this brings a feeling of what its really meant to be in disrespect , aah soo much emotion, so much depth,
similar thing happened to me. He was my friend and i slept over bc i was alone and safer at his place bc i trusted him (ik stupid). When he started i just froze, got no sleep that night and quietly left. then i met to talk about what happened. He was like why did you not stop me. I questioned why i did not ask him to stop for so long that i forgot that he should not be doing that in the first place. He had the nerve to ask me why i did not ask him to stop. and that was the trigger of my anxiety and sleepless nights that i still deal with today.
+Lilly Herondale ok are you kidding? you replied this exact thing on more than one comment. She has great makeup and is a great poet. chill tf out and let people be appreciative of that
+Alex Lautner But the original comment didn't allude to what you're thinking. For all you know, the comment could've been made in the opening sentences. And if it wasn't, so what? This is what OP has chosen to comment on!
It's just a compliment y'all need to mellow out honestly. I doubt Taylor commented about her makeup without watching the video but if she did then so be it. Commenting about it isn't taking anything away from the actual poem. BOTH HER POEM AND HIGHLIGHT BE FANTASTIC AM I RIGHT
@@MayaLougheed It was just saying that she was necessarily like Neil. Not meant to put it in a male/female categorization. Personally, she reminds me of him so much. It's as if you have a friend, and you meet someone that reminds you of the friend.
The other comment is right, she's not the female version of anything. She's a woman and she doesn't remind me of anyone else, she is powerful and she has her own style. Nobody was thinking of a man until you said something. Let women be themselves. Our words affect each other so let's be careful with them.
As @AlysiaMoore said. This comment doesn't really mean to offend anyone. I just love both of these people equally and i like their style. :) And somehow their style is similar (to me). Everyone has a right for opinions and comments. Hoping you lot are having a good day and life x
"I don't know when I became a space to be filled." God damn.
Sarah H ! ! !
I heard that line and suddenly every unnamed emotion in my life broke free.
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain. Exodus 20:7 or the Third commandment. False swearing is among the greatest insults that man can offer to God. Matthew 5:4 Jesus, said "do not swear at all"
her transition of mood is so good
Mhm! it was seamless, really
absolutely
"He mistakes my shrinking for permission." oh god did I relate! :'(
all too real
I was about to post this quote after hearing it...then i realized 1000 fucking people already agreed with me ...god damn.yes.
convey clearly leave me alone , never not worked ... or thats just me
This line confused me. I dont get it.

"it is moments like these I feel more sputter than storm,
more candle than bonfire." this. this. this.
'I fell asleep next to a man who looked like my father, which means , , I wasn't worried .' idk this line tho
Because they looked like her father, her brain processed it as it being her father most likely as she was falling asleep, thus allowing her to relax and sleep as if not by a stranger
As in she was subconsciously lulled into a false sense of security
wait no I understood it I meant that I liked it sorry I realise now it looks like I was confused
Ben Liow haha oh sorry my bad
+Emilio Sandoval Cut her some slack
"Taking up too much space by existing" damn thst hit hard
Finally found the good side of UA-cam
Those 199 dislikes are just her sister trying to get revenge for throwing up on her.
😂😭😭😂

this. this this this. my 13 year old self is calling to my 27 year old self begging for these words. yes yes yes. you are heard, poet. thank you.
Oh wow it has been 4 years since this comment was made.

sometimes it looks so goofy and sometimes the glows look amazing. there's a fine line. I'm scared to cross it! I don't want to be a glow worm :(
This gave me chills. Thank you for existing, and being brave enough to share.
this is the thrid time i am watching this today. still taking mental notes on how to change the world. one sexist person at a time.

This poem was strong! Sad that's how she feels :(
such a beautiful poem
Seamless transition of tone. Loved it !
“My body is too woman to really mean anything.” PREACH!💕
i kinda hate how people are more intrigued by her make up instead of the poetry

Honestly
I didn't even see the makeup 😅

Congrats y’all just hit one million you deserve it!!
This was so incredible
you can tell who she got her inspiration from in the way that she preforms
Watching this wincing in (what is supposed to be) my seat next to a man on a bus with no boundaries, feeling the same. exact. damn. way.
if somebody you don't want near you won't back up well, that's when you have to get loud, watch the whole dynamic change
that's also usually when women get hit if the man knows no boundaries
i guess I usually don't think about that since my response is to hit back & harder, I don't hesitate to go for the balls & that usually ends it
