Love my '16 NC-X DCT, it's a keeper! No clutch takes a little getting used to, and there is a learning curve to get the most out of the system. But it's also point-and-shoot simple for commuting. Asside from something electric, I doubt there is a better commuter built. Despite the power to weight, it's quick because you never roll off the throttle, and shifts are instantaneous. It really is a wonderful system.
I just bought a 2015 nc700x left over manual for the out the door price of $5200. It's brand new with a warranty. I put 800 miles on it. They're tons of these bikes out there. I found mine on cycle trader. It's a fantastic bike. 70mpg very smooth. It's pretty light and fast. The frunk is very useful. I'm 6ft3 195lbs and I have no issues. I did soften the rear suspension by loosening the spring. Very easy to do. The seat is the only issue. It's rock hard. Other than that. The bike is perfect.
Love mine. I wasn’t interested in the DCT but that’s all my dealer had to test drive. Rode it, bought it, love it. Why shift on a commuter bike like this when you don’t have to. It’s absolutely awesome for riding around the city and to work. If you don’t like the low rev shifting you can stick it in sport mode for more aggressive driving or put it in manual and shift yourself. And it gets like 90 to 95 Miles to the imperial gallon in the city!!!! Now looking at the 2018 Goldwing with DCT.... :)

I loved my 16' NC700X DCT until a woman decided I shouldn't change lanes in front of her and sped up, knocking me off the bike and causing frame damage when it hit. My minor injuries have healed. I'm looking to get another Honda. DCT has spoiled me for other bikes. Its so much easier and I can concentrate on where I'm going instead of which gear am I in at a stop light. I've ridden several other bikes and the NC was my favorite. Can't wait to get an NC750X DCT when they are in silver. (Are you listening Honda?)

@@johndoe-pm7up All is good except the seat seems to be tilted forward and you fond yourself sinking forward and having to push yourself back from time to time.
The foot pegs are also too small so I changed them for bigger ones.

Hey, thank you for the very excellent review. The reason I am looking at the DCT is the nerve damage I have in my left arm. I am beginning to look like Hellboy with one big arm and one little one : - ( Pulling the clutch plus the vibes from my Ninja 500 made me put my dear old girl up for sale. Hope to be riding again, one day soon--Thanks again--very informative to hear from a REAL rider!

Just changed last month from a much larger BMW. A great handling trailie feel bike.DCT very easy to get used to.Put on a larger screen which improved comfort, overall a great package and the tank space means I do not use box anymore. Enjoying this bike and the cost savings on fuel.

Good review! How is the engine braking? Asking in the context of climbing and descending steep roads; does the Drive mode provide "safe" enough engine braking when going downhill? Does the Manual mode engine brake like a regular Clutched bike?
Of course :) no difference there
Driving my NX750X in the Alps worked great, just put it in the second sports mode to keep it in higher gears. And if needed, override the DCT temporarily with the + and - button.
Bye the way, my camping gear fits in the top box, frunk and "tank" bag (10 liter Givi, above the frunk). No side panniers needed!
With an extra high Puig screen it makes a very comfortabele ride!

I don't know why people do that ? !! It adds nothing to your visibility when your headlights on... If a driver doesn't look they ain't going to see you, and if they do they'll notice your headlight.
I’ve very recently moved from a R1200GS to a DCT NC750X, I love the DCT system. I find two up the S1 mode great.

MotorVlog I found the GS clutch heavy in traffic, I know some people love changing gear but it’s a chore from my perspective. Plus the DCT changes gear much better than I ever could 😬👍🏻
Exactly, much better & much more often (-> great for efficiency as I'm too lazy to keep changing, especially in traffic). Would be assuming you're using it for the daily commute too?
MotorVlog I typically commute by bicycle but I’ll ride the NC once a week and working in Bristol means lots of traffic.

does it offer you any weather protection, it's doesn't look as though it would but the tank kinda pushes inwards wo is there any weather protection on that bike.
Well, the stock version doesn't, but it shouldn't be that hard to find aftermarket parts for it!
I think if you look at the range of motorcycle on offer for 2018 Honda have basically abandoned using weather protection for the riders.
Which is s a shame cos there are a lot of people who ride in countries were the weather is often cold or wet or both.
I have a Deauville and so far have not found anything that is worth replacing it with, the bike you have was a possibility but unfortunately no weather protection, it's great on fuel but only has a small tank, they should have stuck with a 19 litre tank, bigger range.
It's a nice looking bike but silly little things like the single disc small tank and no fairing is a real put off.
So it is time to ditch the clutch , it was not answered , did you buy an auto version?

Of course. I'm 60 and never will miss this bike! The DCT helps to keep the 'left half' of the brain free for riding.

How often do you end up with gas on the seat when filling up? That's my fear with that design.
If you tilt the end of the nozzle upward as you remove it, there's no drip.
Nice review to watch while I wait for mine. Are you going to trade up to a DCT version? I have been riding for 40 years and DCT is the most exciting new tech I have seen on bikes since ABS. Absolutely loved it on my test rides. So easy to ride in drive for economy and then drop a gear or two manually before overtaking.

I have the 2018 Dct with Abs version and love mine! I came from a standard as well and it took some time to get used to this new style of riding. The first time I test rode a brand new one it was a weird feeling not having a clutch nor the gears. I felt like I was missing something and I was, lol!😄 But, having my Dct for almost than a year, I'm not sure if I want to go back to a clutch permanently. I'm loving what I have so far..
I'm a new learner. Is this bike a great beginner bike? What's the top speed in this DCT version?
@@TheAbstract35 I suggest you take a course and learn to ride a manual motorcycle first. That way you get the understanding of how a motorcycle with a clutch and gears work. Practice at that for a couple of years then if you don't care for gear shifting, then try a Dct...you may like it or you may not but it's not a beginner motorcycle. You need to have prior knowledge of manual riding you know what to look for and how it handles.

Just like cars, eventually most people will go for the automatic when it comes faster and more efficient, but it will take awhile.
May I suggest you make much fewer movements with your camera? I could not go further than 1'30'' because of all the jerkiness in the images.
But my 66k mile 2012 nc 700x will not wear out so I am with it forever.

My best friend met a guy last year, here in the States, that put 100K reliable miles (160,000km) on a NC-X in one year! And he wasn't done. I don't think it was a DCT, but still.
Why do some motorcyclist use their hazard lights when driving between cars. It makes no difference to your visibility, if a driver cant see your headlights they're not gonna see the hazard lights when moving through traffic. The headlight also over powers the front indicators anyway so it'll be pretty hard to tell they're even on. It's only really noticeable when the bikes passed and the car drivers looking at the rear of the bike.

I would love a DCT bike. I would have loved a DCT kit for my 2013 V-Strom, which was just perfect except that I get hand pain from using a clutch lever.
I rented the first version of the NC700S manual, which felt too cheaply made for me.
Having got used to the very well built V-Strom, which I recently - stupidly - part exchanged for a new Yamaha Tmax 530 DX, maybe I could get used to the bike you are showing here.
The Tmax is an awful machine that sounds like a broken washing machine.
Apart from the noise it makes, it's very good - super smooth and exceptionally easy to ride with a passenger at very low speed - but the noise is SO BAD, I have to change it.
Maybe the 2017 NC750X DCT (low down version) is the one for me...?
That seat, though, looks very uncomfortable for the passenger, and I love my wife too much to ask her to go from a perfect V-Strom seat to an 'O.K.' NC750 seat.

The pre owner of my NC750XD put a more comfortable seat from Touratech to it. So riding around the clock is no problem ;-)

Hi, I'm 6'1' and didn't have any issues. But in any case it's always good to try and get a test bike somewhere before buying
A friend of mine is about 6'-5". I think he dropped the footpegs and raised the bar a bit on his '14 to fit him better. I'm 5'-8" and it seems that maybe 5'-10' ish might be the sweet spot. There's a simple mod called the Seat Slope Mod that levels the seat and adds roughly an inch of legroom. A "Sit & Fly" (3D Mesh) seat cover is worth another 3/8~1/2". I highly recommend both mods, they make the seating way more comfortable.

I'm 6'3" and found the seat rock hard, awful in honesty. I did get a twinge from my hips so raising the seat and lowering the pegs would help. Shame you have to do these mods as my TDM900 is all day comfy right out of the box.
I'm getting my 2019 DCT tomorrow! I made a test drive and was impressed with how the system works, so flawlessly! Have been riding for 40 years, had all sorts of sport bikes and nakeds, and against some hard headed friends that thought the DCT was for pussies, I'm gonna show them you can carve on b-roads with it as well as (or better!) than the classic manual gear/clutch transmission bikes they have!
It seems that everyone's forgetting there's lots of high spech sport cars that use this system for a long time. So why not with bikes, too? It's time to be innovative, don't you think, guys? On top of that, is more economical, easier and smoother..., so only prejudice will stop many from getting one of these babes.

I liked your video as I’m getting back into biking after a 30 year gap, and this bike seems perfect for me. But can I just say, as a former advanced level motor cycle instructor, at 11:07 you demonstrated the danger of filtering between lanes of cars. It is very difficult for drivers to see bikes doing this at speed as you did. The Merc driver is correctly indicating before changing lane, yet you aggressively kept going as if looking for trouble. Like it or not, the biker’s motto should always be “ride defensively”, and this was a prime example of how not to do that. Thanks again, and Bike Safe!

I Had this model in uk it came with dunlop tyres made to honda spec dangerous in the wet had accident on wet rd complained to handa uk this was such a problem in uk some byers only baut the bike if honda changed the tyers I complained & was told to go to honda dealers to have a free change of tyres to my choice.only problem with bike but still sold it lost confidence in it
Bob best I've used Michelin Pilot Road 2's for years and they've never let me down, wet or dry.
Loud pipes please people who like noise..noise has no other positives. On trips noise is fatiguing and annoying.
Jeff Martin I'd say that's a matter of perspective. Imo the nc750 is very quiet, which is awesome in general but I wouldn't mind it to be a tad louder so cars can hear me more easily when I'm lane splitting...
Jeff Martin , I own a 750 DCT and when I first got it I was almost hit by car drivers 3 times until I made the exhaust louder. Drivers don’t see cyclists on a bike or a motorcycle, because they are looking for vehicles which are must easier to see without having to twist your head a bit further. Therefore anything you can do to be seen including being heard my save your life! Always wear bright and reflective clothing as well to get drivers attention!!
Other road users can hear loud pipes, which keeps people alive?

I´m riding a Yamaha BT 1100 Bulldog with Fuel Exhaust pipes and i love to see the heads turning once i throttle up ! Fuck you .. :P Noice is great !

I feel in a decade DCT automatic transmissions and CVT automatic transmissions will replace the manual transmission because newer potential motorcycle riders don’t want to mess with a manual bike and won’t have the desire or ability to operate a manual transmission because 85% of cars trucks and SUV’s are automatic transmissions not manual transmissions so why not motorcycle’s.
Gonna depends on the style of bike... unlike cars... there isn’t a performance benefit to go DCT for bikes, but there is to stay manual ..
@@Texarmageddon DCT transmission's can easily have a safer form of cruise control added to a motorcycle manual transmission can't do that that easily throttle lock systems are not that safe and DCT transmission's are better for fuel economy and can shift gears much faster than any person can.

Dude, motorcycles have been on throttle by wire for a long time. Meaning there is just an electric signal sent to the ECU and cruise control is handle by that alone.
Now if you have an old bike than yes.. your only choice is a throttle lock.
Secondly, as I already said bikes run off throttle by wire... bikes have the option now to have a quick shifter. All you do is press the shifter and it will shift or rev the engine for you when shifting down.
DCTs are an irrelevant piece of technology when it comes to motorcycles other than purely for convenience..
There are no performance benefits for a DCT on a bike... on cars yes.. as there isn’t such a thing as quick shifters.. on a bike it’s just pointless.
@@Texarmageddon look at the 2020 Honda African Twin it has DCT transmission with cruise control and the whole system works together as part of the ECU. Adding things like quick shifters to a manual transmission motorcycle can make faster to shift but the system can work with the engine to better make better use of it unlike having the whole system from the ground up built to work together to do the job the whole system is integrated into the motorcycle ECU system.

They cost more to get into and they will cost more to maintain.

Thanks for the review. I can't help thinking Honda have lost their way with a number of their bikes. Was this and the 1200 VFR an attempt at copying BMW with a heap of technology that nobody is very interested in. In Australia the 1200 vfr auto or manual versions failed miserably as very few were sold and they haven't held their value. Added to that I think the mid range and 1200 off road BMW'S were too full of compromises to ever be notable so why would Honda persist in trying to copy them. The sheer weight of this style of bike for off road use gives them questionable value at best. I'll never forget Charlie Boreman in the "Long way Around" fighting his monstrous BMW on the Road of Bones while his cameraman after having killed his own BMW ran rings around him on some locally bought I think 250 piece of crap. As far as using this style of bike on road is concerned there are way better bikes available. I also think that carrying any more luggage than a top box or Ventura bag makes for a terrible ride. Better to just take a car because a bike won't handle any better loaded up. I do have some qualification on this subject as I was dumb enough to buy the VFR (not the auto) and the absolute best I can say about it is I wish it had a Blackbird engine in it. Hey were Honda dumb enough to swap around the indicator and horn switches on the bike you test road like they did on the VFR?
TBone MC yeah, the horn and indicator switches are swapped, but it's not been a problem for me. To each their own on bikes, that's why there are so many different styles, and approaches to those styles. However, I think you're being overly harsh on the NC-X. It may be "adventure styled," but off-road use is not it's forte'. Although some have tackled pretty gnarly terrain, it's best kept to graded gravel/dirt roads on that end. As far as on-road, the extra weight keeps it planted on the highway, and it handles well enough at reasonable speeds on two-lane. The big winner is commuting, with consistent 65~70mpg (27~30 kml) economy, it's tough to beat. Add in the convenience of DCT, some off-highway ability, low price, long maintenance interval, easy maintenance and reliability and it's in it's own class. Until electrics come down in price, there just isn't a better commuter made.
Well, they've sold well in Europe because they're cheap, very economical and practical. The 750's power is modest but sufficient and the weight is low too. I'm not sure BMW has anything that compares with the DCT in honesty.
This bike is not for off-road at all and there's a six speed too. It's more like a modern version of the the old CB's: inexpensive, durable and practical. Inexpensive components and low revving for durability.

yes it does but you cannot shift into it while in motion.

@@michaelrhodes1836 Same as the manual one. Take your right foot brake to avoid moving up hill or down hill. In addition the NC750XD has a hand brake on the left side from handle bar. So don't worry about the neutral.

after many many motorcycles I am now buying my third Nc X model. The first with a traditional gearbox...the second dct and now dct again. I became addicted! Yamy R1 , Gsr , Xsr Harley .everything has been. Who is the idiot who buys it 3 times in a row??😁 The satisfied idiot!😏
I think the small population of rider feel weird about no clutch. But the poor all over the world ride smaller cc without clutch not missing anything.

How? You're getting an automatic transmission, a combustion engine, brakes, wheels, rims, a nice frame.... Can't be done for $2000
