    I have had my 2021 dct nc750x for about 2 months now and ridden about 3000 KMS. This is my third NC 1st was a dct, then a manual and now back to dct
    Simply, best one of the 3 by far.
    Dct is much smoother with changes both up and down
    The rider modes are handy but I tend to ride quite a lot in manual mode as I like to be in control of the gears but flick it into auto mode when in can’t be bothered mode
    Standard mode is similar to S1 in the older bike and sport = s3. Rain mode is similar to d on the older model
    Engine braking despite you not feeling the difference does mean it drops gears quicker when you shut off the throttle when set on the highest setting (user mode) vs holding the gear in the lowest EB setting.
    Acceleration is much better than the older model from a standing start and the speed you reach in 2 and 3 is much higher due to the higher red line. It will easily do 70mph / 120kmh in 3rd for example whereas this was not possible on the older models.
    Seat is hard although flat and I struggle more than 2 hours in the saddle without a stop
    I’m 188 / 6’ 2” tall and the short screen is much better than the short screen on the old model and offers surprisingly good wind protection although it does generate quite a bit of noise. The test bike I tried had the Honda touring screen fitted and I found it created a lot of buffeting
    Suspension seems more compliant than the older model on the std setting particularly over speed bumps
    I have the Honda panniers and top box and this makes a good touring bike - just came back from a 1000km trip
    As the bike is lower and is about the same weight this is not an off road bike IMO
    I tend to ride it fairly hard and find the fuel economy is about the same as the old model.
    The nc750x is now a great all rounder now - a bike you can use commuting to work, with luggage can travel all over Europe on all types of road, and a bike you can now blast around the lanes at the weekend
    All for a price that will not break the bank.

    • @exeterrider
      @exeterrider  3 роки тому +1

      I told you I would get to ride one in the end Mark. I rememebr your mail 3 months ago ...Took me a while Ha! Yes it's a much better bike overall.

    • @akagi007

      Please, allow me to disagree on one particular thing. Difference between engine braking in standard mode (2 of 3bars) and sport mode (3/3 bars) is huge. Still new on big bikes (2000 km on 21 NC) so I experimented with modes during two trips (600 and 1000 km) and find out that EB on sport is really strong - sometimes too strong.
      Other think is that in Standard mode DCT tend to hold higher gear and acceleration uphill is sometimes very poor. In that case helps to manually shift down or hardly twist the throttle and DCT computer find out you want more power and you are not interested in saving money and planet and... vrrrrrrrrrrr

    Great review. As an owner of one of these bikes, I was very pleased to hear your views of the bike, especially as you have also owned the previous model. I thought your comment about the engine braking settings not being very different was contrary to my experience. I have found the engine to be particularly sensitive to the throttle position when trying to ride in town at a constant 30mph. The ride can get a little jerky, especially if the road is uneven, due to any slight movement of my hand on the throttle causing an instant response from the engine. I have now set the user mode to replicate standard mode, but with the engine braking setting set to minimum. With minimal engine braking, low speed constant riding is now so much smoother.

      Hi, I've found that my NC DCT is difficult to stay at 30mph. Between 28 and 32mph the bike is constantly changing from 3rd to 4th gear. To combat this I've always select rain mode for around town, rain mode holds onto 4th gear at a lower speed. But I will now have a play with the settings and adjust the engine braking. Great vid and a good tip Philip. I've had my NC now for just over a year now and done 16,500 mile, absolutely love the bike. My tip if you want better mpg, use E5 petrol. Just averaged 94mpg with a steady trip around North Wales.

    Nice review, Exeter Rider! I have a little story that might interest both you as well as your followers. I´m a Norwegian bloke riding the mountain passes of Norway as well as coastal highways here in Norway. I really recommmend people trying out touring in Norway. Spectacular landscapes and lovely sweeping roads as well as twisties.
    Last season I fell for the temptation treating myself with buying the Honda NT1100. Let´s for now just say I rode it until September when I got rid of it. Yes, the NT1100 is a well equipped bike, but cumbersome due to its higher center of gravity and overall weight. It is also a bit more thirsty, averaging 4,2 l/100km. Touring weight (top box and side panniers fully packed) I averaged 4,4 l/100km. Mind you, I had the manual version.
    The NT1100 is fairly good regaring wind/weather protection, but I had to get a taller wind screen due to turbulence issues. The price for the NT1100 I find (after owned it) is a bit on the deer side. I honestly can´t justify it. I´m 6,1 tall with an 32 inseam leg. Didn´t cramp up on it from the seat to peg ratio, so leg position didn´t become uncomfortably until a couple og hours or so in the saddle. Now, I like to stretch my legs after an hour of riding anyways, so I don´t think the seat to peg ration on the NC will be any problem for me. I´ve from the get go already ordered the tall Givi touring wind screen, centre stand, original heated grips, a USB for the frunk, and a Givi Dolomiti 46 litre top box.
    I do mostly touring and day trips, and appreciate frugality, comfort and practicality. I´m pretty much done with bikes yearning for high rev riding. So, when I read that the new NC750X would get an extra few ponys and a general upgrade to its motor characteristics, I throw an order in for it. The finish is Candy chromosphere red NC750X DCT, and I can´t wait...

    • @exeterrider
      @exeterrider  Рік тому +1

      Hi Geir,
      From what you just said there I think the NC will be a really good fit for you. Yes its less speced than the NT for big long tours but it will still do it really well and with good mileage returns, also it will be an easier bike to just pop to the shops on..... the front storage is something you wont be able to live without once you have it, its amazing...shame they lost the tank bag strapers on the 2022 but you can still get a bag on there.
      Thanks for your info there....if I could get to Norway I would be very happy.......I struggle getting out of Exeter these days ha!

    I'm surprised so many people go for the DCT over manual considering its more expensive, more weight and you cant push start it given a drained battery. Plus the quick gear changes are really fun on my NC750s and can economically cruise at 30mph in 5th! Best of both worlds.

    • @exeterrider
      @exeterrider  3 роки тому +3

      Yes I know what you mean. But how many times have you had to jump start yours, the added weight is minimum, and the DCT will cruise at 30 in 5th without having to change gear and clutch in 5 times to get there. Swings and roundabouts, but DCT works best for me on the nc personally👍🍻

      @@exeterrider luckily I've only had to push start it once but just knowing I can feels like an added feature. Appreciate you prefer the DCT in that its slick and more relaxing. Plenty of reasons. Bad arm/leg/hand/foot equals pain or inability to shift. For me, it was a steal of a deal I couldn't turn down from a coworker. Prob saved 3-4 grand vs a dealer. And frankly, I like not shifting, besides the paddles. I live in a bigger city with tons of traffic, and I like not having to constantly dick around with a clutch and foot shifter.

    Hullo from Northern California. I've had my 2022 model for a few weeks now and have found everything you note is pretty well correct. I ordered the taller screen even before I'd taken delivery of the bike. I rode it around for a while with the small screen, changed it out over this past weekend, and the difference, although not huge, is certainly noticeable, with less wind noise and a little better protection. My two biggest gripes are the lack of cruise control - my right hand actually falls to sleep after a rather short time, and the saddle is HARD at the front, while the shape of the cushier rear portion pushes me forward into the hard part. I've also installed handlebar risers that move the bars up and back a little and am currently fiddling with adjustment. Now, I'm a rather short fellow at 5'5" on a good day, with 28" inseam, so getting my 62 year old hips to swivel over the saddle is just about at my limit. Finding a pad for the saddle may be difficult. We shall see. In the meantime, keep your very good videos coming, and thank you!

    Hi
    Like you I have the previous model [ 2019 ] dct which I bought new , when I first started running it in the engine was labouring too much , so I tried sport 1 and found it a different bike ! much more responsive and easier on the engine .
    What is the suspension like compared to the previous model ? That's one of my dislikes , it crashes in and out of potholes and bad surfaces so I'm thinking of up-grading to a YSS front and rear .
    Going back to engine performance , if I want to make it really go I use manual mode and just wind the throttle and let it shift at the limiter , not much catches you !!
    Once again good video .

      Because this is the Cheap commuter bike. It would also stray into the territory of the rumoured new CRF850L/Transalp. Probably the reason why the NC was lowered in height with this model to retain the commuter space at the low price and effectively taking the slot opened when the NC750S was removed given that adventure styling is more popular.

    Do you get a centre stand? I'd love to be able to take the Givi top back and rack off my CB500F and put it on one of these. If you want more adventure get a CB500X. I agree with you about the taller screen. Stunning in blue. Compared to the CB500X? NCX750 better.

      Hi Andrew, yes its a far more capable tourer compared to the 500x. And excels on motorways.. I would go NC over the 500x any day.

    On the dct gearbox, they should've put an extra 2 gears. I think it would've made much more sense as a commuter bike. The people who buy a motorcycle for fun wants the manual gearbox anyway.

      @@exeterrider I assume the UK NC's have the SDBV front forks, oddly enough the U.S. models have the same travel although are not showing SDBV. Even more odd is the fact Honda Canada does show the SDBV although travel is listed as 4.2" Front and 5.9" rear. It's tough to determine the quality of suspension compliance with so much variation from country to country. The U.S. models until 2021 were not noted for quality of suspension, I had hopes of a revised package to match the rest of the new bike.

    I have the 2016 NC750XD. Am considering the new one mainly for the better seat. Being 6ft4 I am afraid for the lower seatheight, that my legs will be cramped. And I wont get the new one until they have added cruise control (cause we all know that is coming)

    • @exeterrider
      @exeterrider  3 роки тому

      Yes its a good upgrade. I would hope cruise is coming but will they just save that for the new "baby Africa twin" that's rumored is the question? Then not put it on the NC? Even if they do, at what cost will it be? A bit to weigh up there. The price is spot on considering what you get for your money. 👍

    Wonder why it took them so long to actually ride one of the old models...
    Definitely not a fan of the indicators being lit all the time; might work in america but it is asking for trouble over here.
