    Brilliant video, mine was the crank sensor, removed it and found all debris on it. Cleaned it and refitted. After a long crank of 10 seconds it started.

      Where is the crank sensor located? My car ran for like 4 minutes and then shut off. Crank no turn on .

    you are KILLING me!!! before watching I went though everything you did. .... and got EXACTLY the same results!!! But now I'm back at "it won't start" Thanks for documenting my FAILED efforts and hope I stumble onto some solution in your comments. (I'm complaining, but thanks genuinely for the vids!)

    Just went through this on my 2007 Subaru Impreza doing pretty much the same thing you did. I finally isolated it a weak battery. The cranking voltage on mine dropped to almost 10 volts. I only figured it out because after cranking repeatedly I had to throw the battery charger on it. Every time after that when it wouldn't start, I would put the charger on and charge it to for about 30 minutes @6amps. Magically it started every single time.

      Same. It could start perfectly for months without issues, be at the grocery store, and acts completely dead. Jump it, or charge at home, and she's good...... Until she's not.

    Could be fuel pump? I had this same problem, i just kept turning the key on and off(making sure i could hear the fuel pump turn on each time i turned on) then after that ill try start it and pump the accelerator until it goes. If it doesn't ill just repeat above steps until it did lol

    Question
    Sorry for bothering you but I just changed the engine in my 2009 subaru forester with a engine from a 2009 subaru outback and now do not have spark? Any ideas on why ? The engine ran while in the outback before the swap
    Everything plugged in and looked the same *both are 2009* so i didn't think anything would be different between them
    Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏

    I came here cause my 2015 OB is doing the exact same thing. Was hoping to get answers but you gave me nothing! Lol. But mine doesnt do it all the time. Maybe like 1 out of every 10 starts, it takes over 5 seconds before engine fires

    Just an fyi.
    Ive seen this problem many times on other makes, Nissans, Holdens/Opels etc it even happens to some motorbikes too. Its caused by bore wash, due to the short cold start and shut down. Most cylinders if not all will have no or low compression due to the oil film being washed off the bores. Notice how it sounded a bit like the timing belt had snapped at the start?

  • @rhkips
    @rhkips 8 років тому

    Huh. Well I'll be darned. I don't know what to say about that!
    Judging by Charlie's input, he knows better than any of us! The deeper you got into it, the more noise he made, until you went to put the old crank sensor back in, then he got quiet. ;)

    • @Badgertronix
      @Badgertronix  8 років тому +1

      Indeed, I have no idea! Maybe an intermittent fault with the sensor that has gone for now. The new part was clearly junk.

    Frustrating man! I just changed the spark plugs and ignition coils on my 2012 Subaru Tribeca, after which it wouldn't start. Ended up just holding the gas pedal down while cranking it for about 20 seconds (3x each), and eventually she fired up!

      I have a 2005 Subaru Legacy GT Limited. (Turbo) well i was driving home outside temp 73 F. The other night. (191,000 miles on car) Car dies. Just cranks now i replaced the crankshaft sensor. No difference. It back fires when i crank it also. Pulled an injector and got sprayed by hissing fuel. I am stumped at this point any info. Would be appreciated. Its a family car and I only have my motorcycle left. So we are stuck at the house.

    A faulty CPS is not out of the list of possibilities but that usually only happens when the engine is warmed up-hot...Or it might have just got the shits and needed someone to finger it and swear at it a bit like all ECU engines do form time to time...Example #1...BMW 318i is still running sweet the guy says.?..I've got no answer to that one either.

    Shit. I was a bit late to the punch with suggestions. How odd. Either that original sensor is on the way out or there's a wiring issue and disturbing them cleared it up. How annoying.
    Eric O and scanner danner never have to contend with screaming babies when they are diagnosing shit. haha

    • @Badgertronix
      @Badgertronix  8 років тому

      I think the sensor is probably on the way out. I gave the wiring a good test and it all checked out. Time will tell.
      The last minute addition of a baby when the other half gets called into work really adds to the puzzle!

    • @aussiebloke609
      @aussiebloke609 7 років тому

      Yeah, but Eric O loses subs every time his doorbell rings when a customer shows up. lol My guess here would be a bad connection somewhere - maybe some crud in a connector that got knocked loose, since nothing else was changed. Possibly a broken wire somewhere, but I'd expect that to show up more and more as you play with the harness, not less. :-)

    • @Badgertronix
