Gems!! 💎 Bro! He is talking air volume ratio between cylinder and barrel length! Yo! This is awesome 👏 Great video. Very helpful. Thank You. I just picked up the Matrix / S&T AIMS AK with G3 Microswitch gear box. It functions well out of the box but I really wanted to see what was inside of it. This video is a great help.
Thanks for making this, and I’m going to blame you for me going too far on mine! My compression system was even worse than yours. Replaced all of it, put an m100 spring in it, pro-win hop up and Prometheus barrel. It now runs 352-357 fps every shot, and will hit a half USPSA targets at 100 ft 80 plus percent of the time.
Very thorough gearbox internals review from a tech's perspective. I am a novice tech myself and recently purchased a Cybergun CQBR with this gearbox in it. Yours is one of the best reviews I have seen.
@@wyshtechairsoft I bought this gun for my son who is 8. He is a long way from hitting the field so the gun is more for plinking in the backyard and learning fundamentals. Thus far I only changed out the hop up bucking but I observed the same issue with the air nozzle that you did. Aside from that I was actually quite impressed with the gearbox for the money. I was concerned about the hop up system when I first looked at it because it looks so cheap but after taking it apart and feeling how stiff the adjustments are I am optimistic about the durability of the polymer. After upgrading the hop up bucking to a Guarder clear I was getting 386 fps (+/-5) with .2s. The hop up was able to put good hop on .28s with no problem. I didn't try any weights heavier than those. I am confident after changing out the air nozzle I could get that fps variance down to +/-2 but my son will never notice.
@@GunfatherMilsim That's great! Did you put a better nozzle in it? If not, a SHS M4 nozzle will dramatically increase it's performance. Ive done this to multiple guns with this gearbox and they always get better results with just the nozzle upgrade alone. Hope this helps!
@@wyshtechairsoft Not yet. I am resisting the urge to open the gearbox until my son gives me a legit reason to. What are your thoughts on the motor? It seems very capable for a "discount" gun.
Love the video! I have the gen 2 model except I have the 370-400 fps model. I have had my local shop upgrade the hopup to a R-hop and installed a tight-bore barrel. I can usually outplay my friends who all have $300-$400 guns (I bought this gun on sale for $99). I would like to change the wiring to Deans, as the rear wiring is so long that it is easy to get the connecters kinked and bent. Great video!
Oh, that is awesome! I too have had a great experience with this one in the video AND a Gen 2. Great guns!! Still blows my mind with how well they shoot out of the box regardless of the compression leak from the nozzle. Anyway, I bet yours shoots very accurately with the mods you had done. Swapping over to deans is definitely a great idea! Thank you for your kind words! I put quite a bit of time into making this video so I really appreciate it!
@@wyshtechairsoft Great to hear that you had a great experience with the Gen 2 as well :). For sure, I will be switching over to deans and also I will probably shorten the wires so they don't get tangled.
I started with the URX 12" version and have been upgrading it into a monster. This has been a great starting point to learn how to tech an AEG. Now though... I'm kinda eyeballing the Calico Jack at ~$170 just to pull that gearbox and slap it in for the optical trigger Matrix now has. Of course throw all my upgrades from this gearbox into that one.
The Calico Jack m4 already has a mosfet that is much better than the matrix m4 you have. It has an OPTICAL ETU/MOSFET that looks like a Gate Titan. You can adjust your trigger sensitivity and edit your fire modes.
@@wyshtechairsoft For roughly the price of just the Titan I could get the Calico Jack and gut it, have a short barrel conversion, spare gearbox, spare gears, and this trigger for my gun? I'm really considering it. haha
@@BionicBurke I have upgraded a bunch of calico jacks and basic tune-ups. They have pretty damn good internals to start with. I even DSG built one using its original gearbox original mosfet/etu and some of the other oem parts. Still holding up strong! The shell can take ALOT of abuse.
@@wyshtechairsoft Honestly, now I'm looking at the full metal one and really considering just putting my upgrades in that. The full set of ambi controls is super tempting and I can get it forged or billet style. If I get forged I might be able to do a full upper swap with my current rifle. Do you know if the metal one slides on and off with the front pin pulled or is it one that pivots on the front pin?
@@Shark_Theory Yes, that nozzle was the bulk of the problem. The cylinder head also contributed to the compression leak. Compression check is the first thing to look at if A. Your fps is all over the place AND/OR B. Your fps is extremely low than what it is supposed to be.
@@Shark_Theory oh yea! Getting your volume ratio correct for your specific application is very important. I was honestly surprised how much the rifle improved with the volume correction and compression fixed.
i have one of these and another youtube made a video about them and how you can get 26rps with a 11.1 lipo stock but if you spam the trigger to much you burn out the mosfet my friend got the colt version and it just a tad bit quiter than a kwa tk45c on full auto sound it almost sounds like a 300 dollar gun for the price of under 200 dollars
Thats awesome! It makes sense the mosfet burnt out as the fire rate increase would pull more amps from the battery. Which in turn overloaded the mosfet as it wasnt designed to handle that much power draw. No where near like a Perun or other aftermarket mosfets.
I honestly wouldnt try a m125 spring. However, changing out the nozzle to one that has an internal oring would greatly increase the fps as the factory creates a horrible seal. Also putting a better piston Oring helps as well.
@@wyshtechairsoft Sir, thank you for the swift reply. I do understand that sentiment, and I have a nicer AEG to use as a primary (an Artcurus). However, I did receive a Cybergun Sportsline w/ S&T G3 gearbox as a present, and I would like to use it and increase its performance/longevity. Am I correct that the Cybergun and the one in the video are the same? With that being said, I am currently planning on installing a ZCI 6.02 barrel, Prometheus Purple bucking and nub, and a ZCI high torque motor. I also plan on only using 7.4v lipo batteries to increase its longevity and not burn out the mosfet. Could I get your professional opinion on this plan? Is there anything else I could improve without opening up the gearbox? Thank you again.
@apallidhand3834 those are good and cheap upgrades. A better nozzle like an epes 21.4 nozzle would make a massive boost to the fps without stressing anything in the gearbox. The gearboxes in these rifles are horrible, which is why the fps would increase. Also, a better piston head would help, too, but taking off the oem on the stock piston is really difficult. It's almost easier to get a piston as well and put the better piston head on the new piston.
You can get those magnets from evike and place them on the SHS sector gear. It works but you might need to file down the magnet so it doesnt rub on the tappet plate. Thats what I had to do one a platform similar to thus.
@@THATGUY-de3rj You could do the maxx hopup, a Prometheus barrel, and a maple leaf bucking. If you experience misfeeds, you will need to either change to a 21.25mm Maxx nozzle or get a washer or oring to space the hopup away from the gearbox about .5 to .25mm
