If you were ever so inclined, it would be extremely useful for those of us having the new setup in the 2024 X5 to know precisely the difference between "presets" and those "unassigned" shortcuts. What's the most efficient way to use those two features together? Note to that by nudging the controller forward it seems always to bring up the "unassigned" boxes. Just another way to get there. Hey Tom, I'm glad you liked the video, and thanks for sharing. I could see how the two could be confusing, especially for the last generation of BMWs. Presets in this model would be referring to the MEDIA/MUSIC. Say, for example, if you wanted to have it so that a mix of all your favorite XM stations, FM stations, etc. You can find your favorite stations and "add to presets," then you'll see another icon labeled presets show, which will list all your favorite stations. One thing you could do is have the actual "PRESET" menu to be set as a SHORTCUT. Now you would have to swipe down from the screen to bring down the shortcuts menu and then you'll see the preset menu show there as a shortcut, which I think would be the best.
This is a great video- super helpful. I just purchased my BMW X5 in Dec. 2024 and wondered if some of the software has changed- for example, I don't see the same images on the climate control screen?

Thanks. great video. the wireless charger for the phone only works for about an hour before the phone overheats especially when you are using Apple CarPlay. Any solution for that besides plugging it into a wire? Is BMW aware and working on a fix?
If you have a phone case, I would try it without the case or with another type. It could be a good reason why it may be doing that. They have been known to cause some overheating for a few years now. My guess is that if it's still doing it after you make those case adjustments, it may deactivate after a long period of time for safety reasons.
@@BeamerView tried it both ways. I think it’s a design flaw and I hear GM and some other car mfgs are now putting in air/ac vents in the charging pad area to keep the phone cool. With NFC for charging going, WiFi and Bluetooth for wireless car play plus the cellular radio, that’s a huge amount of heat. Knowing they can’t add a vent now it Seems like BMW should change the software to do an auto off every so often on the charger to keep the heat down. Back to wired for now…. Too bad the combo of Wirless CarPlay and wireless charging is so convenient.
I checked the manual for contactless rear trunk opening and tried to perform the operation to no avail. Is there something I must do to activate this feature?
You may have to check in "tail gate settings" it should have a setting where you can enable the feature. Also keep in mind to have your key fob on you, and if you have a tow hook mount installed it may not be available to you, since they have to remove the sensors for the mount.
i have 2024 BMW X5- How can i use the key fob to have my presets, seating position, steering wheel, radio presets etc return back when my BMW id is used. My wife sets her seat on her User ID and when i enter with my key the seats don't recall to my preset Thank You
This should happen automatically, both you and her should have your own BMW ID, and each ID should be linked to a single key. I would make sure to have your own key and the ID will link to it, and the car should adjust seats automatically when a different key gets into the vehicle.
Thanks for doing this. On my cruise control buttons, the On/Off also sets the speed when first pressed. The Set button automatically sets the speed at the applicable speed limit rather than the speed I'm actually going. Is there any way to change that? Thanks.

Thanks for the view. Congrats on the future X5!! The vents on this are unique so difficult to find a proper mount. I would look on amazon, you could get one that can be 3M taped onto the dash and has a magnetic holder for the phone that works really well.
Great video, we just picked up our 2025 X5 50e. Quick q, we do not have the climate package, is there a way to control our rear climate? Don’t see with i drive 8.5. Thanks
I believe for this if you go into the climate menu and then in the corner you should see settings, somewhere in there should give you the option to control the rear climate. You can also sync all temperatures and that will include not only the passenger but the rear as well to match what is set to the driver side.

Sure you would go into the settings menu that shows all the different settings. On the top you should be able to search for doors and windows, and look in the lock/unlock tab, there should be a option in that menu to unlock all doors and not just the drivers side.
Couple ways, you could try pressing on the device and then you should see remove device located on the next menu. If that didn't work, try press and holding it to see if that brings up that menu.
Can we create a shortcut for just the ignition start stop option on iPhone 16 instead navigating through slow BMW app? I suppose apple has included that functionality to use your phone as a car key.
They should be releasing a update that has that in a drop down menu. From the home screen you'll be able to drag down and it should show on the top right.
There is a tilt feature that one of them can do where it goes down so it helps you parallel park. But if you mean if it can fold in and then fold out as your reversing it cannot do, you'd have to manually fold them in with the button near the door controls do to that.

Great video! There used to be 8 shortcuts as hard buttons. In every video I have seen in the new X5, there appear to be only 4 shortcuts on the screen. How many shortcuts can you have in ID8?
I have a 2025 X5 - Is there a function that will have the driver's seat back up and the stearing column will go in and up so it is easier to get into the car?
Did you try saving your position settings using the memory button on the driver side door? Set seat and steering position click the button above M1 and then click M1. When you turn off the car, the steering will go in
Only the steering wheel will move. BMW haven't implemented this too much like the other car brands yet. You could set seat 1 to be your normal position and press seat 2 to enter and exit. Bit of a hassle but work around.
It may or may not get the update depending on when the vehicle was made within the year. Most new X5s should be getting a over the air update to 8.5 though.
The only way to control this feature is through the "exterior lighting menu" IF the BMW has the option for illuminate kidney grille you can control it there. I actually have not seen a BMW with this feature on while driving however.

I gonna purchase 2024X5 40 I with M PACKAGE . But that car don't have driveing assiant and the sound sytem (the basic one ) . My question is that does driving assiant and sound system both worh to upgrade ? i bleiever is 5000 dollar different .I want to heart your thought
I would highly recommend the drivers assistant if you do a lot of traffic jam driving. The sound system is noticeably different but unless you work with music it’s about the same. Either way I would still get it since the sound system here is not that much more expensive.
I need to park my 2024 X5 for 6 months as we leave each year, i was told that a trickle charger could damage the system. Using deep sleep mode I don't think I can remote start the car. So what is the best way to keep the battery charged? If I have someone just start the car in my garage and let it run for 15 minuted and i do this every couple months will this work? thanks
Trickle chargers are going to be your best bet. I haven't heard of it damaging the system. But personally if you have someone who can drive the car weekly or bi weekly for a little bit that may be the best bet since actually driving the vehicle will give the battery some charge. You could leave it at a trusted someone's house and let them take it for a spin here and there.
Unfortunately not with the new one. It’s a mild hybrid system which prevents you from deactivating the system. Government regulations are more strict on having vehicles idling
Do you know if the 4 cameras showing the car’s surroundings for avoiding objects while parking or backing is included without options ? If not which option includes the camera setup, the “well equipped” or the “fully equipped”?
What i meant was if I'm in my garage and the car is not running how long can I read info safely without killing my battery? Are should I open garage door and run car.

Agreed, I had this same issue with cooling seats, I just want cooling seats on but it requires everything to be on. I usually keep the fan speed set to very low and then go from there.
Sure, the side mirror selector switch that goes left and right (near the window controls) switch that to the other side and that should prevent it from going down.

Is there a difference in suspension in the X5s in the 40i with regular suspension vs the 40i with M adaptive suspension vs the the M60i with M adaptive suspension all in comfort mode?
You're going to feel differences in all 3 of them. 1st two for sure, and 40i vs m60i you also will because the power delivery is going to be different. Adaptive M suspension will do a great job making the vehicle feel smooth, firm, and increase handling feel. It does wonders going over bumps and almost makes the vehicle feel like it's gliding. I would highly recommend it.
In the settings menu (doors/key) you can select the option to "fold mirrors in when locked" and then make sure the other feature called comfort access (walk away and walk toward lock/unlock) is on.
You can. If you go into your main menu with all the apps, click on mobile devices (should be the 2nd one) Once you click on that you should see your phone connected, you can check off the correct boxes there so that it's just connected through Bluetooth and not AA. Hope this works!
Hi, maybe if you could provide more insight regarding the sensafin leather on the seats? Also not sure if the sensafin goes all the way to the upper doors and dashboard? Previous X5 had the sensatec on the upper door and dashboard plus premium for the leather upgrade. I will be ordering extended Merino leather and not sure how it will blend in in combination with some parts being in sensafin. Thanks!
Sure i can look into that! So far I have not heard of the sensafin being adapted to the dashboard, I want to say that portion is still sensatec material.

Hey there! I do not recall seeing a proper EQ chart, they use to have it in the previous generations but I recall only seeing the bass treble controls for the most part. I can double check this.
Regular Gas no, only PLUS or higher. 89 is the absolute minimum Back seats can fold down flat but pressing the button near the head rests, they can only slightly recline by a few inches using the lever on the bottom side of the rear seats.
Should be a feature in the system in the doors and windows menu. See if you can check off a box for "turn off vehicle when opening door". The other thing you could do is hold down the volume knob for about 3 secs and that will turn off the system.
thinking about picking one up but i notice the the ignition button location. this might sound like a dumb question but ah, what are the chances of while you driving and you accidentally push the button wouldn't that be potentially disaster?
Ive been driving these cars for years and never accidentally pressed the button. Even if you did, if the vehicle is rolling it won't do anything. This also goes for accidentally shifting the car into reverse while you're moving forward. Technology will help prevent any dangers!
Could I request to replace the "run flat" tires with regular tires with "air" when negotiating to purchase the X5? From what I have been told, the run flat tires can affect the overall smoothness/comfortability of the ride quality.
If you want the bigger tires they will say run flats only. I also wanted to order mine without them but wanted the 21” wheels so had to get run flats. They also say they are more safe however from what I’ve seen they pop more often then regular tires. They will deny that though. Hope this helps
You may be able to do this if you're building the vehicle from factory. Non Run Flats do provide a more smooth feel, i personally could not tell the difference. Run Flats do also give you the option to have more space beneath the trunk which I prefer. The tires hold up pretty well in my experience. There was only one time where a tire went flat but that was because I hit a brick on the road.

Do have any guidance on if I should or shouldn't fully charge my 2024 X5 50e PHEV to 100% and how that would affect the battery long term? I can understand not needing to charge a full EV to 100% because it's so rare to drive one more than 300 miles in one go. So far, I'm getting 48-49 miles from a 100% charge and I often want to utilize all of it without using the gas.
Hybrid vehicles (PHEV) are fine to charge up to 100%. EV vehicles should only be charged to 80%. Some say sticking with level 1 charging is the safer route for maintaining battery health as well and with PHEV vehicles since it doesn't take forever to charge.
Would greatly depend on the car, but I personally would get the m adaptive suspension, it gives the vehicle a nice firm sporty ride, and cushions the bumps a bit too.
@@abpakdeep adaptive M suspension is available as a subscription. $120 for a year, $300 for 3 years and $500 for lifetime. You dont have to buy M sport package for adaptive M suspension. Air suspension is good but it uses air bags and deflation inflation mechanism using some kind of compressor. Chances of problems and wear out may be faster . I just brought x5 recently and purchased adaptive M suspension. It works great than standard suspension
I wouldnt say it's a major diff between them all. I will say your rim selection will probably play a bigger role also the fact wheather or not the vehicle is m-sport or not. When you get a bigger rim size, you'll feel the bumps more, and majority of the cars with m-sport package, it'll stiffen the suspension up by 25%.
Replace it. I would check to see if insurance can cover that. Either way I would do it, because the crack and chips can overtime get worse, then you would be driving a brand new vehicle with a ugly crack on it.
Not yet, they keep coming in sold, how ever, the x5 here and x7 have a lot in common, the only major difference is going to be on the 3rd row seating, coming soon!!
Barely any out there if none! iDrive 8 takes some getting use to but I would not buy the X5 simply because of the OS system. End of the day the drive is the same.

I just got my X1. My husband’s iphone apps can be display on the dashboard, my Samsung apps can not be displayed, I can only use Bluetooth on my phone to play Spotify. Could you advice me how could I make it happen?
You may simply have to connect your phone to the "Andriod Auto" mode. The new X5s all have it. It could be that your husbands phone is connected to the Apple Carplay feature but for your's again just connect to the Andriod Auto feature and it'll show the apps after doing that.
$250 for a piece of plastic that plugs into that hole in the back to hold your tablets. $250. For a piece of plastic. It does nothing except holding your tablets.
I like the X5 better than X6 personally but having said that, I still personally would not buy a BMW. My wife has ordered a 2024 BMW X6 and my brother drives a 2022 BMW X5. I know the driving experience in a BMW is a lot more interesting and fun than most other vehicles though.
True, each brand has their own taste or specialty you could say, of course BMWs are known for there drive and rightfully so after being able to drive every single one of them. All depends on ones taste.

I am in love with my 2023 540i X! I know a better series is coming up soon & i'm a bit jealous of the iDrive 8, but it's just a wonderful car to drive. I am keeping my 2022 X7. The inside looks very confused. They are just getting uglier every year. I will consider Audi or Porsche next. BMW is loosing their sporty-agressive presence. Now they look like a soccer mom car. Throw out the window the designer, he/she must be working for a competition.

Yes a lot of these vehicle did get a software update and so many updated from iDrive 8 to 8.5.

@ I will check your driver profile or BMW ID settings to make sure both of those items are linked. Worst case delete the profile or ID and redo it.

That is correct, it took me a while to figure this out but that's right.

Once you have more than four setup. You’ll see the other row of four show. So 8 total.

Why is there missing the button with the camera on it for side view/panorama view (between traction and PDC button) although the car has 360 camera?
It most likely is the button for Drive Recorder. It is a option that some have some do not.

I gonna purchase 2024X5 40 I with M PACKAGE . But that car don't have driveing assiant and the sound sytem (the basic one ) . My question is that does driving assiant and sound system both worh to upgrade ? i bleiever is 5000 dollar different .I want to heart your thought
I would highly recommend the drivers assistant if you do a lot of traffic jam driving.
The sound system is noticeably different but unless you work with music it’s about the same. Either way I would still get it since the sound system here is not that much more expensive.
I need to park my 2024 X5 for 6 months as we leave each year, i was told that a trickle charger could damage the system. Using deep sleep mode I don't think I can remote start the car. So what is the best way to keep the battery charged? If I have someone just start the car in my garage and let it run for 15 minuted and i do this every couple months will this work? thanks
Trickle chargers are going to be your best bet. I haven't heard of it damaging the system. But personally if you have someone who can drive the car weekly or bi weekly for a little bit that may be the best bet since actually driving the vehicle will give the battery some charge. You could leave it at a trusted someone's house and let them take it for a spin here and there.
Can one disable the auto engine stop? I have it my Audi 2018 A5 and it is bothersome at times and noisy.
Unfortunately not with the new one. It’s a mild hybrid system which prevents you from deactivating the system. Government regulations are more strict on having vehicles idling

Do you know if the 4 cameras showing the car’s surroundings for avoiding objects while parking or backing is included without options ? If not which option includes the camera setup, the “well equipped” or the “fully equipped”?
It is an additional package that you'd have to purchase. Parking Assistance Plus/Pro should do the trick to make sure your X5 has it.

What i meant was if I'm in my garage and the car is not running how long can I read info safely without killing my battery? Are should I open garage door and run car.
Vehicle will turn off by itself before it runs out of battery. They do a great job of staying charged, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Agreed, I had this same issue with cooling seats, I just want cooling seats on but it requires everything to be on. I usually keep the fan speed set to very low and then go from there.

Sure, the side mirror selector switch that goes left and right (near the window controls) switch that to the other side and that should prevent it from going down.

Is there a difference in suspension in the X5s in the 40i with regular suspension vs the 40i with M adaptive suspension vs the the M60i with M adaptive suspension all in comfort mode?
You're going to feel differences in all 3 of them. 1st two for sure, and 40i vs m60i you also will because the power delivery is going to be different.
Adaptive M suspension will do a great job making the vehicle feel smooth, firm, and increase handling feel. It does wonders going over bumps and almost makes the vehicle feel like it's gliding. I would highly recommend it.

How do you automatically fold the mirrors when walking away from the car?
In the settings menu (doors/key) you can select the option to "fold mirrors in when locked" and then make sure the other feature called comfort access (walk away and walk toward lock/unlock) is on.

Just got my X5 today and Android Auto drained the battery. Is there way to disconnect on long trips
You can. If you go into your main menu with all the apps, click on mobile devices (should be the 2nd one)
Once you click on that you should see your phone connected, you can check off the correct boxes there so that it's just connected through Bluetooth and not AA.

How do you direct the air to the footwell?
You would have to turn off the auto mode and then you'll see the option to allow you to direct the flow to the bottom.

Sure, I can make a different version of the X5 for the reason most of it would be about the same except for the charging features of course

Try checking the driver profile settings, make sure your key is linked. If not, try re-adding the profile with the right key in the car.
Hi, maybe if you could provide more insight regarding the sensafin leather on the seats? Also not sure if the sensafin goes all the way to the upper doors and dashboard? Previous X5 had the sensatec on the upper door and dashboard plus premium for the leather upgrade. I will be ordering extended Merino leather and not sure how it will blend in in combination with some parts being in sensafin. Thanks!

It's meant to tell the car to do a full acceleration, so it'll drop it to the lowest gear and give it everything it's got!

Hey there! I do not recall seeing a proper EQ chart, they use to have it in the previous generations but I recall only seeing the bass treble controls for the most part. I can double check this.

Regular Gas no, only PLUS or higher.
89 is the absolute minimum
Back seats can fold down flat but pressing the button near the head rests, they can only slightly recline by a few inches using the lever on the bottom side of the rear seats.

Should be a feature in the system in the doors and windows menu. See if you can check off a box for "turn off vehicle when opening door".
The other thing you could do is hold down the volume knob for about 3 secs and that will turn off the system.

thinking about picking one up but i notice the the ignition button location. this might sound like a dumb question but ah, what are the chances of while you driving and you accidentally push the button wouldn't that be potentially disaster?
Ive been driving these cars for years and never accidentally pressed the button. Even if you did, if the vehicle is rolling it won't do anything. This also goes for accidentally shifting the car into reverse while you're moving forward. Technology will help prevent any dangers!

Not sure about anti-glare, but all of the rear view mirrors should come standard with auto-dimming.
Could I request to replace the "run flat" tires with regular tires with "air" when negotiating to purchase the X5? From what I have been told, the run flat tires can affect the overall smoothness/comfortability of the ride quality.
If you want the bigger tires they will say run flats only. I also wanted to order mine without them but wanted the 21” wheels so had to get run flats. They also say they are more safe however from what I’ve seen they pop more often then regular tires. They will deny that though. Hope this helps

You may be able to do this if you're building the vehicle from factory. Non Run Flats do provide a more smooth feel, i personally could not tell the difference. Run Flats do also give you the option to have more space beneath the trunk which I prefer. The tires hold up pretty well in my experience. There was only one time where a tire went flat but that was because I hit a brick on the road.
They suck, and wear out…..fast. Grind that “stealer” when negotiating, you’ll settle for nothing else.

Not sure. Is it with Apple CarPlay? You could swipe down from the top of the screen to to get into that.

Do have any guidance on if I should or shouldn't fully charge my 2024 X5 50e PHEV to 100% and how that would affect the battery long term? I can understand not needing to charge a full EV to 100% because it's so rare to drive one more than 300 miles in one go. So far, I'm getting 48-49 miles from a 100% charge and I often want to utilize all of it without using the gas.
Hybrid vehicles (PHEV) are fine to charge up to 100%. EV vehicles should only be charged to 80%. Some say sticking with level 1 charging is the safer route for maintaining battery health as well and with PHEV vehicles since it doesn't take forever to charge.

Would greatly depend on the car, but I personally would get the m adaptive suspension, it gives the vehicle a nice firm sporty ride, and cushions the bumps a bit too.

@@abpakdeep adaptive M suspension is available as a subscription. $120 for a year, $300 for 3 years and $500 for lifetime. You dont have to buy M sport package for adaptive M suspension. Air suspension is good but it uses air bags and deflation inflation mechanism using some kind of compressor. Chances of problems and wear out may be faster . I just brought x5 recently and purchased adaptive M suspension. It works great than standard suspension

I believe so, most of them are. Mineral white has more of a slight creamy shiny finish.
When it comes to the comfort aspect, and COMFORT alone, do you notice a huge difference between the 7 series/X7 over the 5 series/X5?
I wouldnt say it's a major diff between them all. I will say your rim selection will probably play a bigger role also the fact wheather or not the vehicle is m-sport or not. When you get a bigger rim size, you'll feel the bumps more, and majority of the cars with m-sport package, it'll stiffen the suspension up by 25%.

Replace it. I would check to see if insurance can cover that. Either way I would do it, because the crack and chips can overtime get worse, then you would be driving a brand new vehicle with a ugly crack on it.

Barely any out there if none! iDrive 8 takes some getting use to but I would not buy the X5 simply because of the OS system. End of the day the drive is the same.

I just got my X1. My husband’s iphone apps can be display on the dashboard, my Samsung apps can not be displayed, I can only use Bluetooth on my phone to play Spotify. Could you advice me how could I make it happen?
You may simply have to connect your phone to the "Andriod Auto" mode. The new X5s all have it. It could be that your husbands phone is connected to the Apple Carplay feature but for your's again just connect to the Andriod Auto feature and it'll show the apps after doing that.

I like the X5 better than X6 personally but having said that, I still personally would not buy a BMW. My wife has ordered a 2024 BMW X6 and my brother drives a 2022 BMW X5. I know the driving experience in a BMW is a lot more interesting and fun than most other vehicles though.
True, each brand has their own taste or specialty you could say, of course BMWs are known for there drive and rightfully so after being able to drive every single one of them. All depends on ones taste.

I am in love with my 2023 540i X! I know a better series is coming up soon & i'm a bit jealous of the iDrive 8, but it's just a wonderful car to drive. I am keeping my 2022 X7. The inside looks very confused. They are just getting uglier every year. I will consider Audi or Porsche next. BMW is loosing their sporty-agressive presence. Now they look like a soccer mom car. Throw out the window the designer, he/she must be working for a competition.
They do operate differently but much improvements have been made with voice commands and the new search box to find a setting is a big help.

Yes the climate controls or lack of has been a major drawback for manual climate control users. It's manageable but only if you keep it auto mode.
