Is it possible to add the heated steering wheel and/or heated seats function to the shortcuts menu? This would enable accessing those features with the iDrive controller instead of having to touch the screen and leave finger prints behind. I currently use iDrive 7 on my pre-LCI and don't have to touch the screen for anything.
Not sure how to add apps to the BMW System, those apps come pretty standard. Any other apple carplay or android auto apps will auto populate as soon as you download them. Or also be sure to double check in your phone under the carplay settings "customize" button, there you should be able to drag drop and pick and choose which ones you want, if you don't see park mobile there then it may not be compatible just yet!
If you have idrive 8 which is the one that has vertical widgets going down the screen, you can scroll all the way to the right and should see a plus icon you can press to add more, there isn't really much. If you have idrive 8.5 which is what's in this video, you cannot really add any more widgets on the home screen. The small box you would see on the home screen on the left is the only ones you can adjust either by swiping up and down or left and right.
Can you turn off or blackout the screen while driving? Can you blackout the screen while listening to music on a USB? Please demonstrate this feature. Thanks in advance.
There should be a function where you can turn off the display, you could even tell voice command to do it. Maybe try pressing the option button near the idrive controller and that should bring it up. If not, it's in the settings somewhere.

Best way to check is to check your rear seat ac controls, if there are two different sets of temperatures you can adjust (one for the left and one for the right) then that's how you can know if it's 4 zone.
Unfortunately not, if you prefer to have it full screen you would have to do the obvious and go into the map itself and it'll take up the screen. Easy way would be to just press the map button near the idrive controller.

I've also heard from another that the spotify icon went missing on the idrive. You could check to see if there is a menu item called "personalize menu" where the spotify icon use to be, in the last idrive that was the only menu you could go into to show it on or off. Worst case, you android auto or apple carplay to access spotify from your phone.
Is it possible to change/move the widgets, customize? I mean if I want to see weather and radio together, both are "half" widgets. Instead of having to scroll to see each?

I know in some models you could press and hold the surround view button on the center console, but your vehicle may no longer have that. If that is the case I would say yes setting the record button as a shortcut item would be the fastest way. Thanks for making the video. I’ve been curious about 8.5 in particular. I still have the 7 on my 2021 3 series with physical buttons, which I personally think is the best implementation of iDrive, CarPlay, and both touchscreen and physical control interfaces.
8.5 is top notch. 8 for some reason just didn't flow for me. They have made the system much more smooth so it's easier to use. The biggest pro is the fact that the new system has a search box for which ever setting you are trying to look for. I've gotten use to using it and using voice commands for many of the functions.
In the settings go to vehicle status, you should see this menu item called vehicle status I believe, and then go into the tire settings, you should be able to make adjustments there.
By the way, any idea how to remove the song/artist notifications after you set them on iDrive? I accidentally added the Beatles to notifications on SiriusXM. I didn't realize they have a dedicated channel so I now get a notification every couple minutes on another Beatles song. It's very annoying and I cannot find a way to remove it. Any ideas? Thank you!!!

Hi. Will BMW make an OTA for 8.0 to upgrade to 8.5 ? I know the screen/head unit and wiring are different between the two. But will it be some kind of "Light version " of 8.5 that we can upgrade the 8.0 to? My iX1 is built pre november 2023 with 8.0.
Great question and Yes it's very confusing at this point in time since they are also rolling out with idrive 9 which is about the same as 8.5. I do no believe the X1 will be able to upgrade to 8.5 or 9. Some sources already have said that the 8.5 is only available to the X5 variants and higher and I don't believe the X1 can be upgraded to iDrive 9 since the hardware is newer as well, they are using a android screen in order to support that. I would call BMW to see what they say, but these are my observations.

X1 I believe will not be getting any updates. The 8.5 is only for the X5's and higher. The brand new 2024 X1 is starting to roll out with idrive 9 however there are some hardware differences which will prevent it from updating it.

BMW navigation works better with the hybrid mode to switch between gas/electric also it displays the AR on the screen where I don’t think Waze and Google map would. I like Waze live traffic updates though.
I would love a gauge cluster update so you could change your speedometer and rev counter. Its pretty ugly really, even before I purchased the car I thought these are really ugly though with all that tech, you'd think you could change the view.

On my old ex five I was able to select like for example 48° as a default temperature so my car knew if the temperature was below 48°, my heated steering wheel and my heated seats would automatically turn on. However, I can’t figure out how to do that on my new 2024 BMW X5 is that still a feature?
Climate control rules! That's one feature I wish they kept. The way that it's designed to work is having your climate control set to auto, the heated seats and wheel should turn on automatically and intensity will shift depending on how quick or slow the vehicle is trying to get to the target temp.
For some reason my 2024 X5M didn’t upgrade the new menu on the bottom of screen or new Home Screen. It did switch over to the new climate control system. Do you know if there’s a plan to switch the X5M to have all the new 8.5 features? My wife’s 2024 X5 M60 did fully change. Frustrating!
Yes it's very odd if the climate menu changed but not the bottom menu, I'd try a iDrive reboot to see if that helps, if it has not changed since I would bring it in to get it checked.
I like everything except the new home screen. I think I prefer the old one better, as I can display a large time and temperature. The icons at the bottom and the climate control screen are excellent. I hope my 2023 i4 M50 can get it. My one wish with the i4 is that I would like to be able to set the iconic sound level, especially in sport mode...

got my ix1 m sport 2 weeks ago, dissapointed in the parcel shelf quality no splash flaps fitted either, minimal msport badging fitted, cut backs where you do not need, tech is not so important to me, too much to confuse the driver
Congrats on the new one. Yes the did do some stuff to cut costs, it seems like it's happening for many models these days. Tech seems like a lot at first but once it's all setup, it's straight forward afterwards.
@BeamerView I’ve experienced the ‘content’ disappearing from the instrument panel and the heads up display. I have a new 2024 X5 which came with 8.5. It has now been in the shop for 3-days (I’ve only had my X5 for 1-week now). I sent videos to the dealer showing the issue. The dealer couldn’t find anything so they are communicating with BMW now. The navigation system was also off. My home address was .5 miles off. Have you seen or heard of these issues with 8.5? Thanks for your videos and sharing content. Cheers
Hey John, yes there has been many issues with 8.5 since the system is still less than a month old. I wouldn't worry too much however, these things are normal when new softwares are released and updates will come more frequently to make sure things are resolved quickly. It is quite unfortunate for it to happen on such an expensive product so I would also be frustrated as well. But, just know you have the latest software yet and that once the fixes are made it'll work out for the better in the long run.
Owner of a 2023 330i that still has idrive 8. When will BMW upgrade to 8.5? The climate control is so bad on 8.0 I almost wrecked the car trying to change the temp and fan speed! Annoyed that all other 2023 BMWs have been upgraded, but not the 330i.
Most likely not getting the update last time I checked, to 8.5 for the 3 and 4 series, they have a different chipset. Also not a fan of the digital climate display, I personally just use auto and adjust the temperature and or use voice commands so it's more safe.

I do not believe so. Last generation BMWs had this function called climate control rules which did help with having those features on during remote start but they did remove it for the new OS system.
The home screen totally sucks. Very badly designed. We cannot customize it like the older one. Everything is predefined. Also, for android auto, the screen looks very blur. It is not crispy. Another annoyance, is that you cannot reorganize the shortcuts without deleting them and adding them again.
It does take some time getting use to, I do personally like the new home screen better than the last since it's more useable, either way, I'm using AA or Apple Carplay more so it doesn't really matter. Haven't seen AA yet in the new system but I'm sure if it's not perfect they will make some updates and bug fixes soon.

The half widgets you cannot I'm afraid. Tried doing it for another client but didn't have luck doing it.

It should, may depend on what type of source you are using if it's not showing for any reason.

Try pressing the option key on which ever thing you are trying to remove.

Is there a trick for turning off regeneration completely?
Unfortunately not, EVs rely on it a lot to recharge the battery.
Can i download waze directly into the apps ad preferred navigation?
Most likely not. The Nav or Map button will go into waze as long as it's the one that is currently active though.

I've tried the A/C in 3 different 2024 X7s, with both new and old system and the A/C simply does not blow enough air.

Good point, many loved the buttons too. It took some time to get use to the touchscreen but I found using voice commands solves a lot of the issues.

For the i4 I believe it has to come from the factory, so 07/2023 or newer, it won't be able to upgrade over the air either unfortunately.

AirPlay won’t stay connected with 8.5. Major Issues if more than one iPhone being used in the vehicle!!

@@BeamerView thanks for the reply. I would hope that BMW can make some update on the 8.0 climate screen, the way its set up is actually a liability, taking eyes off the road for too long just to turn on the heated seats!

Depending on the car, right now it seems all EV vehicles will as long as they are built after July or August 2023. X5 X6 iX X7 7 series will as well.

@@sasel9744The BMW app will advise you if/when it's available. Expect late September for an OTA update, if your car gets it.
I prefer the look of iDrive 8 to be honest
it did have some perks over the 8.5, I must say!
I like 8 better. Don't see the improvement with the widget thing stuck to the side and having to scroll up and down. Like it the other way.
True the older way provided more option to customize, for me as long as I could set the small side widget to the trip computer, i'm all set.
Too complicated for simple tasks.
Takes some time getting use to, but using voice commands makes it easier!
So can you not turn on heated or cooled seats with out turning on the air or heat ughhhhh why bmw why!!!!!
I do not believe so. Last generation BMWs had this function called climate control rules which did help with having those features on during remote start but they did remove it for the new OS system.
Man now that sucks. My first complaint with my car 😂🤣🤭🤷🏽♂️

The home screen totally sucks. Very badly designed. We cannot customize it like the older one. Everything is predefined.
Also, for android auto, the screen looks very blur. It is not crispy.
Another annoyance, is that you cannot reorganize the shortcuts without deleting them and adding them again.
It does take some time getting use to, I do personally like the new home screen better than the last since it's more useable, either way, I'm using AA or Apple Carplay more so it doesn't really matter. Haven't seen AA yet in the new system but I'm sure if it's not perfect they will make some updates and bug fixes soon.
