When you duplicate a particle system, always desactivate de preview to have the time to change the collection and the number of particles ! Itll be much quicker and you have like 10x less chances to crash ! 😂
I love your videos and reccomend them to other noobs. A suggestion I wanted to offer is to deliberately think about how your viewers might have little to no experience and think in that context when presenting. For example, how you people in the grass collection at 3:40 and on. I have Botaniq and can't replicate what you are doing, I just instantly get a covered plane unlike you, and it looks like your video has a big jumpcut while you are showing this process.
That's because adaptive is more for really fine displacements and is dependent on your camera distance. it also takes longer to render because you'll probably have more geometry. I just use the subdivided mesh to displace so im sure it displaces what i want, but not with a lot of geometry. long story short adaptive is good for other things and takes a long time to render, my method is quick and works pretty well imo!
Weird question, how can I get the grass collection into the outliner without placing it in my scene first? I can't rotate the plants that are part of the particle system, only the original meshes.
I dont really get what you're asking tbh, but the idea is that the meshes in the particle system are instanced from the original mesh so you'd have to rotate that one
@@baeac well, in order to get the plant collection in the outliner, I have to place the plants in the scene (as far as I know). After I've made the instances, if I select all the grasses in the outliner it just grabs the originals that I placed. If I try and rotate the instances, it rotates the entire plane. If I delete the originals I placed, it deletes them from the outliner. I understand, it's confusing to even try and type this out, but that's the issue I'm having. I'll try again this evening. I do appreciate the reply, very much!
@bigsky7617 yes it all seems to be working. you're not supposed to rotate/delete the instances, those are created by the particle system. doesn't matter that you're using blender 4.0, this has been the same since blender 2
@@baeac I just realized what was happening. I had downloaded a few collections from Quixel, and in the outliner I was selecting the hierarchies, not the objects (3:57 in the video). So I couldn't go into edit mode and I didn't realize it. Sorry about the confusion and the silly mistake, thank you for your help! Going to finish it up now!
Going through this. Once I added grass collection via BlenderKit and set the planhe particle instance to be the grass collection, I can't select the grass objects in the grass collection. I can only select the plane which automatically selects the grass. If I control click plane object it unselects plane and makes everything vanish from object view. Any ideas? I am in Blender 4.
That shouldn't be happening so I have no idea whats going on,, a little hard to problem solve without seeing your blender. You are not supposed to be able to select individual grass in the viewport tho if that is what you mean
@@haudtalis5036 so you want me to make a particle system in geometry nodes instead of just using the particle system thats shipped with blender? i get what you mean and all that but it doesnt make much sense if the only thing you're going to do is add some grass and rocks
I'm really not a fan of everyone just using bought assets to make their renders. I don't mean to bring anyone down, but when I see videos where people just download everything from the internet and build a scene out of those assets and say "I made it", I'm like - no, you just assembled it
@@baeac yeah, but it's still lossless compression. The Zip algorithm (also known as "Deflate") is really good. if you don't compress your PNGs, then they might end up exceeding EXR in file size, and there's basically no reason why. another kink in the PNG is that it has no support for arbitrary alpha channels. It supports an alpha channel but it doesn't enforce reading it as such. Adobe treats it weirdly: instead of creating a mask from the alpha channel, Adobe deletes the pixels where there's transparency, resulting in loss of data. That's when a separate render pass for the alpha, or the EXR format can be useful (otherwise there's also a plugin for photoshop called "SuperPNG" that helps with that with PNG files, the way that EXR plugins do). Anyways, compressed or not, it's still lossless.

This video is fucking outstanding. Thank you for showing me the light about how easy the particle system can be. Great work as well.
god of blender
thanks for this. after seeing this video it's really easy to make this kind of environment
The dispersion in the lens distortion-node controls the effect of "chromatic aberration". 😊
I don't even know how to use Blender but this one was fun to watch.

great job!

I got lost around 3:33 where you get that scatter assets window. Did you press shortcut or how u came up with that import ?

What about making environments from a reference image? Especially with cliffs.
could do that!
If NASA had Blender back in 1969, they could have made a more believable moon landing.

Not everyone has the time to hand craft each blade of grass used in thier renders, nowadays people only care about the end product
