I would say, at least for me, I have found I need a schedule to be accountable to myself and my kids and their schooling. But I also know who’s boss here: I own the schedule; it does not own me.
I ❤ the freedom homeschooling gives us in our schedule. I use a similar Year at a Glance calendar. My brain just needs to see the entire year as a whole. In paper. With colored squares. 😂 My husband off work all the federal holidays, so I mark all of those, in addition to non-federal holidays that we celebrate. I've learned that when daddy is home for the day my kids want to be with him. So, I plan differently for those days. I also block off the days I know will be used for extra curricular activities - like Scout campouts, and church youth group events. I love planning -- it's the following that I have problems with. 😂

I had planned to "plan" yesterday, and then life happened and I had to shift to today...I was lamenting it, but then I hopped on UA-cam and here was your video! Your videos are always a delight! I was just sharing with my husband today how interesting it is that our school schedule changes 4 times a year with the seasons. I love that and enjoy it so much. Last year we started making our 5th day an unschooling day and it was life changing for us!
I am planning in months and weeks, but days seems pretty specific! I never know when an illness is suddenly going to pop up or what have you. I just try to divide the content into approximately 36 weeks and then the leftover weeks of school are a buffer for sick days and room to catch up.

That is such great advice about doing a slow start! We took time off for the summer and mom AND kids need to ease into the daily routine. :)
