I always look at what others are doing, but at this point, I'm pretty confident in what is actually feasible in our home. We keep it super simple because with a 6, 4, and 2 year old, all the extras can get overwhelming really quickly.
I am relieved that my doubts, worries, and feelings are not mine alone. Others on this road of homeschooling have or have had the same concerns. Feeling like I am not doing enough, trying to get to EVERY subject every day along with swimming and piano. Why can't I do this for ONE child? This other UA-cam mom has 3 kids and gets through all their subjects in 20 minutes. It has been on my mind all week to send him to public school. I know in my heart we have made the right decision. Protecting his innocence, his self-esteem, and his confidence. I can compensate for a book or a lesson but once that "innocence" is gone I can not help him make that up I can not help him replace that.
I have missed you! You share such great wisdom. Just what I needed to hear as I listed out the 20 subjects needed for a CM style and instantly felt overwhelmed.
Aww, thank you! I’ve missed everyone on here too! 🥰 Definitely choose the parts you like and don’t worry about the rest! That’s where being eclectic fits in - choosing the best parts of which ever styles we like and making our own blend! ❤️
This is such a blessing & encouragement!! Beautifully worded reminder to us!! Our homeschool journey has been a process of going through everything you just described!!! I still struggle with doubts about if I'm doing enough- are they going to be equipped for college & life?! It's been a battle every day, and his attitude is so frustrating. We've gone over and have posted on our wall the Bible verses about doing all to the glory of God, but it is still a daily battle. We have experimented with many, many different curricula, as far as my budget would allow, but I'm to the point of thinking it really doesn't matter what I use, he's going to fight me on it because he just doesn't want to do it. If I did that "unschooling" thing & let him lead, he'd never have learned to read or multiply!!! He's 12 now. Do you know of any good science curricula for middle schoolers that would include projects & learning for more mechanically minded kids? That is the one thing I might be able to interest him in, but I have only come across the usual life science, astronomy, oceans, plants, & geology... ty so much!! ~Liz
It is so overwhelming. And just gets more so as you get older. I counted up my oldest son's readings a couple years ago and he had OVER FIFTY reading assignments a week. Plus Latin. Plus keeping a nature and science journal. Plus astronomy project. Plus written narrations. Plus Latin and CM wanted two other foreign languages?! And dancing, folksongs, art, handwork, pe... One thing I think about when I don't feel educated enough is.... I went through the public school system and feel that way. Why would I send my kids through the same system that I feel didn't educate me well? So much of education can be done independently by them reading books from brilliant minds of the past. We're on year 5. I have 5 children I'm homeschooling and literally sent my husband a text on Tuesday saying, we really should talk about putting the kids back in school" 😂
I’ll be homeschooling my 8 year old and 5 year old this fall for the first time and I’m doing a trial homeschool with my 8 year old, where I do math for an 30-45 minutes after school with him using the actual curriculum to patch holes in his math concepts. I’ve been feeling like quitting sometimes already. It’s not even started for real 😂 I needed to hear all of this. I need to slow down!
Literally watching this after me yelling and punishing my 6yo for not reading properly. 😢 accused her of not trying and pretty much did EVERYTHING wrong! We do not do school everyday….so it’s not like we are doing too much. We need to be doing SOMETHING. I’m just struggling to be consistent. Idk what my teaching style is or what my child’s learning style is. We play…A LOT. She naturally learns things…but is that really enough?? Your last point hit home! 😭
I scream a lot to my kids as well, i saw a video by dr kennedy lady giving speeches about parenting and she said on one of her videos that we may not stop screaming but we my repair by apologizing to our kids and taking the blame on us for shouting never to take it on them and that apology accepting our mistake helps more than just a plain apology. I'm sorry if I'm being inappropriate i just thought it might help as it has helped me😊

I totally feel your pain! Been there too! At age 6, that’s definitely enough. After teaching 4 kids to read (one with dyslexia), my biggest tip is to not push it before they’re ready. When they are, everything will click and make sense, and you won’t have to force it! I have had one that read at 4 and one that read at 7, and everything in between. Definitely keep working on the letter sounds and blends and just read books to her. You can point to the words as you read so she starts to recognize what they look like when you say them. I have loved Explode the Code for phonics in the early ages! Best wishes! ❤️
Yes, my oldest caught on to reading quickly and naturally in “kindergarten” at age 5. I was expecting the same for my middle child, but we had some days like these where we both ended up yelling or crying. After a month or so, I set it aside for the rest of the year. He just wasn’t ready. In the meantime, we did read alouds and got lots of comics and monster books from the library bc that’s what he was interested in. We did Explode the Code for first grade, and he started reading at age 7. He’s 8 now and caught up to 2nd grade level in one year. Garfield and the Smurfs are still his favorites😂 Don’t be afraid to let them read whatever will catch their interest to motivate them, and it’ll click when they’re ready.
Oh wow! Listen to those feelings. Maybe the Lord is causing you to doubt because he wants you to keep them home with you. There are so many resources out there and helpful options that can make it possible to homeschool! It really can be a challenge but it so worth the time investment you put into your family to learn and grow together! You don’t have to know everything, or even teach everything. That’s the beautiful thing…it’s that you do it together! I pray the Lord gives you direction for your family! ❤️
I have really enjoyed using Explode the Code for phonics for early elementary along with just practicing handwriting (copying Bible verses, etc) and reading a lot together (both them practicing reading to me and me reading to them). For math I have liked The Good and The Beautiful or Singapore Primary Mathematics for early elementary. That’s just my personal preference though! There are many great options!
I was teaching child medical classes…then the decision to go into missions with Teen Missions International happened..Gods direction is better than ours.
I always look at what others are doing, but at this point, I'm pretty confident in what is actually feasible in our home. We keep it super simple because with a 6, 4, and 2 year old, all the extras can get overwhelming really quickly.

I'm sorry if I'm being inappropriate i just thought it might help as it has helped me😊
@@lakliamsnot inappropriate at all. I appreciate your feedback. I agree, I did have to apologize and made sure she knew that I am a sinful human being also trying to do better. 😮💨 thank you again
@@allalala9916 i wanna do that, i have a 1, a 2 and a 5 yo, I'm scared they'll kick me out for too much noise🫣 i think twice before going to toddler time but i guess if i never try I'll never know🙏
I totally feel your pain!
"we all need Jesus!!!!!" So true
The camera in and out is a bit distracting dearest. Im trying to listen en learn. That said thank you so much! X
👏👏👏 Totally Agree!
Did you just call my children flawed?! Im out of here! 😂 Jk thanks for such a nice video ❤
😂 Oh no, not yours, of course!
IM still trying to figure it out as they are changing 5th grade, 3rd, and k/1st.
I've missed you!!!
Aww, thank you! 🥰 I’ve missed seeing everyone on here too! Thanks for watching!
I’m am going through this I have already filled out paper work to put them in school my am having doubts
What is a good math and language arts curriculum for kindergarten?? Child knows all alphabet sounds and identifies them.
Masterbooks is great for us
I have really enjoyed using Explode the Code for phonics for early elementary along with just practicing handwriting (copying Bible verses, etc) and reading a lot together (both them practicing reading to me and me reading to them). For math I have liked The Good and The Beautiful or Singapore Primary Mathematics for early elementary. That’s just my personal preference though! There are many great options!
I was teaching child medical classes…then the decision to go into missions with Teen Missions International happened..Gods direction is better than ours.
Amen! :)
