Black Swans were given to Winston as a gift after WW2 by the Australian government, on behalf of the Australian people, for recognition of his service during the war, hence you see them at Chartwell. Black Swans are only native to Australia. I visited here in 2012, and couldn’t get over the fact that I was walking where Winston had walked, and talked to the great people of history. A very surreal experience.
Amazing! We didn’t find that out in our research. There were signs saying to not approach them, it would have been nice to get a video clip of them. Thanks for watching ❤️
I visited the summer home of FDR on Campobello Island in New Brunswick. I felt the same way about walking in a hero's footsteps. Sadly, that is where he was when his paralysis set in. We must never forget!
Apparently there is / may be a Ginger cat - that was part of the deal when he sold it, that Chartwell should always have a resident ginger cat! I'd have also loved to see inside his bedroom apparently he had a chair disguised with an inch thick metal back - that could have been used as a shield / if there was ever an emergency to avoid bullets! Very interesting vid thanks!
That is absolutely true yes! Unfortunately we didn’t see Jock VI. It was horrible weather, so he was probably hiding somewhere and sleeping. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/kent/chartwell/jock-the-cat-at-chartwell Not sure why we couldn’t see into his bedroom. We think it is because you would have to walk through his study to get there. Thank you for watching ❤️
Nice video and I know we have a limited selection of music to choose from on YT. Ignore the tacky comments by others. We enjoyed the video, nice photography.
Thank you very much for the support ❤️ yeah if only we could use copyrighted music then the video would have been better. Unfortunately we can't use copyrighted music.
That’s a good point. Although we have found that with clotted cream and jam, the jam is a lot runnier. Having the jam first makes it quite hard to spread the cream. Thank you for watching ❤️
That non-stop 'beat' in the so-called music is just horrible! I simply had to turn it off, but also missed any commentaries being given. PLEASE change the music to something more appropriate for this Great Man and his gifts to us Brits, and to the World!! Thank you!
We wanted to put World War II style music in but it was copyrighted. We had to change it out. We won’t be changing it though as people have been watching the video and it’s helped us a lot. Thank you for watching
The surrounding landscape is stunning and I'm sure that's why he wanted that location less than an hour from Westminster at that time. I'm so glad the NT has preserved the house as its history is probably more important than most other NT properties.

Great video . 👍 Thank you ! 😊 Love this Estate and all the history . Beautiful home and gardens .
Thank you so much. The house is magnificent. Glad you liked it ❤️
Yes, we saw the Orange Cat, a direct descendant of the original in Oct/23. He was very friendly, but loved the outside too.
Wish we had seen him now 😍
I just love seeing all of the historical photographs.
We were amazed at all the paintings he created. The historical photos were also great too.
Thanks for watching ❤️
So much history
It’s fascinating looking around. Also the gardens are beautiful. Even on a rainy day
This was so enjoyable. Thanks. Jax., FL

Jam goes on scone first so the cream won't soak into pastry. ❤my opinion. UK

Love the walk! Kill the (terrible) music - wrecks the vibe. Had to turn it off.
We are never sure which is better. We had some WW2 style music originally but it was copyrighted 😅
No commentary, I don't do that..
We think it’s better that way, we have voices for silent movies 😅
@@theperambulators No comment..😅

No commentary what a shame for a youtube video
That's ok if you don't like it. Our videos are for those who don't like an annoying person talking over the video
Clementine Churchill was right, Chartwell is an incredibly ugly house of very little merit.
It is an odd house, the real beauty is the views of the surrounding countryside and gardens.
